As I saw another one star, I will also chime in about first impressions (only). I can offer a frank impression of a first-time visit that sent me running. And fast. This happened years ago but the memory still haunts me and I feel a duty to share. I was shopping around for adjusting slightly crooked teeth. The quick intake followed the usual consultation many other orthodontists do except the push by Dr. Duan. The conversation strangely diverted beyond straightening teeth to correcting breathing issues (I have none) and opening nasal passages (huh?) and failing this, all manner of disasters would befall one. And for this one would need jaw surgery, and then this and that. I was not falling for any of this (remember my teeth were just slightly crooked). Then she made a couched reference to my looks and why surgery etc. "may" help. I am not unattractive but for someone vulnerable, this could have been a way to prey on someone's fragility. I was mortified at such a low shot. I would recommend anyone curious about straightening teeth to shop around. I found a dentist who, for a tiny fraction of the costs quoted at this clinic (and others), treated me respectfully and dealt with my teeth easily, with no surgery (of course). read more

I don't like this place. The front desk is not polite. They couldn't get my first name spelled right, and didn't feel bad about it. The Invisalign consultation appointment is nothing about consultation, it is more like a sales presentation. They spent 80% of the time talk about prices and payment plans, only 20% of the time you got to see the doctor. Price is high. They always informed me of everything they were doing and ensure that I not only felt comfortable, but was willing to take any steps that were needed. I can't believe I have to deal with retainer problems at 30 years old. After a broken wire hampered my ability to have a nice relaxing dinner on Sunday night, I had to schedule an emergency appointment to fix the jutting wire in my mouth. BRACES OFF AT 28! Thanks to Dr. Duan, Paige, and June! I had braces for two years (July 2016-Sept 2018) and orthographic surgery on my upper and lower palette, provided by Dr. Maring of Seattle. I was very informed throughout the entire process of what I needed to do; what was going to happen; and all my questions were always met with genuine sincerity and comfort, especially when it came to my jaw surgery. It's also a plus that my surgeon spoke very highly of Dr. Duan. I did consider going without surgery to correct my jaw and found a reputable orthodontist in Redmond, but that required more time in braces which is something I wasn't found, especially for an active lifestyle and also teaching martial arts. Anyways, I very much felt that Dr. Duan and her team had my best interest in mind, and did everything in their power to avoid unnecessary work to my jaw. I am the kind of person who scared of just going to the dentist for cleaning. Going to put metal braces for 2 years, propel and having my teeth shaved sounds scary but Dr Duan and Her team comforted me. Paige is one of her assistant and she is friendly and gentle. I live in the Bothell/Mill Creek area, and will gladly drive a little further out to the Greenwood area in order to receive the level of service my family and I get from Dr. Chunni Duan and her staff. As an adult, I needed work done to correct a very deep bite that had become quite damaging to my lower teeth. After just over 2 years wearing braces, Dr. Duan worked wonders on my bite and the position of all my teeth! Now that I have finished my treatment, my 12 year-old daughter is in the first phase of her treatment. I visited & consulted Dr Duan's dental office last summer and she explained everything to me in details. Dr. Duan started my daughter's orthodontic treatment what seems to be 3 years ago. It was a long process for her case because she required expanders before the braces could be installed. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Duan and her team including Paige and June, were extremely patient and gentle and helped my daughter, who is very sensitive to pain or discomfort, along the way. We appreciate that their office always worked with our schedules because we were coming from the Bothell area, whenever we needed to make any scheduling changes. We had been referred by a Nextdoor neighbor who had had successful results with Dr. Duan and are so glad we got his referral. This is my first post on yelp ever, but I had to share my wonderful experience with Duan Orthodontics. I've been a patient of Dr. Duan since 2009. I was referred to her by my wonderful dentist and it was the best recommendation ever! I didn't want to get the traditional wire braces since I was a little bit older and I didn't know invisalign would work for me since I had a cross bite and my alignment was very off. When I first met Dr. Duan and her lovely staff, they were all very warm and welcoming. Since the beginning, she has been honest with me and told me that my particular case would be difficult but she reassured me that invisalign would work for me. She mentioned that it would definitely take a little bit longer than the traditional braces but as long as I followed her instructions, I was ready for the challenge. It took me two and half years to finish my invisalign trays and I am so pleased with the outcome. Just seeing my before and after photos blew my mind away. The meticulous and detailed work and refinement that she has done to my teeth was outstanding. If it weren't for her and her wonderful staff, I wouldn't be smiling as big as I am today. If you're worried about the cost, Duan Orthodontics has an easy payment plan where I was able to afford my invisalign treatment and pay it off by the time my treatment was finished. When I was looking to get my teeth adjusted, my dentist informed me that it was a difficult case and that I should shop around, though he strongly recommended Dr. Duan. The initial consultation was different than most, there's no opulent waiting room, no flashy use of technology, and best of all no strong sales push to sign up. I was given an opportunity to express my goals and concerns, and the team was patient in explaining the procedure, costs and timeline. While other orthodontists had automated e-mail follow ups, the follows up from Dr. Duan's office was a personalized call. One major difference between other providers and Dr. Duan's office is that the cost is all inclusive, whereas other offices I went to quoted only for the initial invisalign treatment and not additional adjustments or retainers at the end. There was never a sales push, and when it came time to pay the options were explained and insurance processing was done without me having to worry. The process took over two and a half years, and anytime there was an adjustment or change in the course of action, Dr. Duan took time out to explain, and if needed call and follow up on the process. The only time I ever had to pay for an additional procedure, Dr. Duan made sure to express it was entirely voluntary and it was something that I wanted (Propel to speed my treatment). Every single person that works there knows all of the patients' names and their needs. For somewhere I had to repeatedly go back to, it was nice to be comfortable around everyone. Even when it gets busy, Dr. Duan and her staff never made me feel rushed, or that I wasn't a priority. With my odd travel schedule and often last minute meetings and work, I was very appreciative of the flexible schedule they had. When Dr. Duan works with her staff, you can see her share her knowledge and expertise, and see the expectations she sets for her staff - expectations she sets even higher for herself. In speaking with my dentists, I know how difficult it is for an adult's teeth to move quickly in certain ways, and am extremely pleased with the way it turns out. Through my bi-yearly cleanings and follow ups, my dentist has been following along and consistently surprised as to how things have been going. I may not know much about teeth, but I know I'm happy with the end result; that my dentist is surprised as to how well things have gone, and how quickly it was completed further cements my confidence in Dr. Duan and her team. read more

I treated with Dr. Duan for 3 years 2007-2010, as she came highly recommended by several people, to help with TMJ. Just when I thought I my braces would be removed, she made a radical and painful change that threw off the occlusion, and she could not fix it. She referred me out to other orthodontists which did not go well. In the end, I had no stability in my bite, occlusion, and jaw. Meaning all my teeth were loose, my jaw unstable, the bite was off, and one if not more teeth dead (root canal, bone infection) I have permanent damage to the roots of my teeth (they are very short and loose) due to moving the teeth too quickly, and some of the ligaments that hold the teeth in place were torn. I had to pay another $4000 to a TMJ specialist who tried to stabilize things, which helped. He told me after his exam and CT scan that the orthodontic treatment I received was contraindicated because of the size of my jawbones, and it should have never been done. That was 7 years ago, and I've suffered every day since with the looming threat of loosing all my teeth, pain in my teeth and a deteriorating jaw. My experience is with this kind of instability, it has made it difficult for subsequent dental work to be successful. When orthodontists make mistakes, it is next to impossible to hold them liable. They are governed by colleagues. For example, the TMJ specialist would not give me a report of his findings when he said the treatment I received should never have been done based on the size and shape of my jaw bones. He gets his business from orthodontists and dentists. It's also next to impossible to get an expert witness, should you need one, for the same reason. You also sign a waiver that says it's an art as much as a science, and that you're aware it might shorten your roots, etc. The only time an attorney will take a case is if it is catastrophic, I was told over $200,000 for dental malpractice. There is a 3 year statute of limitations and often the catastrophic result won't show up for years later. So, I'm out about $15,000- $20,000, with future treatments to correct this looking to be hard to find, and very costly, with no recourse. I was hoping to have a good outcome at some point, but as it stands that does not seem to be forthcoming. I felt I needed to say something. read more
