I hate shoe shopping and usually do everything in my power to avoid it. However, I was about to go on a trip and I was already here so I decided to go inside and see if they had anything to my liking. Being inside Ellsworth Place I really can't complain. As it is the only remaining shoe store in here now. You can tell it is a DSW before you even get near it with that totally white interior with the lights blazing out of the store. Inside, it's like every other store in the chain. White walls, white ceiling, white floors, aisle upon aisle of shoes. No rhyme or reason as to how they put their stock out. I went through the men's section and was about to leave when I found what I wanted to look at on a display in the main aisle. No organization to this but to just hope that a box that had your size on it might be something they have on display. After rummaging through this pile of boxes I did find something I wanted. I will give it too them, even though this is a massive store, they were still able to pop up out of nowhere to see if I needed any help finding anything. Like you as an employee has any idea what you have in stock any more than I as a customer knows. I declined and went about my business and made my way to the register. Did I mention I hate shopping for shoes. It might be because I used to work for a shoe store and knew what was about to hit me at the register. The attempt to sale me more items to go with my shoes. No, I don't want your socks, sealants, or any other magical potions. Then they ask if you want to sign up for their rewards program. Ma'am, does it look like I care about shoes that much? But the price was what got me or I wouldn't have been in line to checkout. read more

They moved! They are in Ellsworth Place AKA City Place in a former life. I was downtown last weekend and couldn't find it. Guess what? It's up stairs on the top floor, to your right when you take the escalator. It is huge! I still haven't got the lay of the land in this new incarnation. I headed back to the clearance racks. I didn't need new shoes. I was looking for something smaller, like socks or a scarf. Something to spend my five dollar birthday credit that DSW gives you every year. Well, hello 80s! This DSW store is hard to miss given its prime location on the fourth floor of the Ellsworth Place indoor mall. The store is bigger and brighter than the former location on Ellsworth Drive that shuttered its doors this past January. The new store has the familiar DSW store layout, which consists of rows and rows of shoes organized by style. Accessories such as handbags and umbrellas as available; however, the shoes are the real draw here! The store looked pristine during my visit. Shoes were neatly organized (with no random shoes and boxes in the aisle), which greatly streamlined my shopping experience. I didn't see many shoes that I liked during this visit; however, I did find a cute pair of brown booties to buy. I received a complimentary weekender bag and a $20 coupon to use on my next visit. They moved! Not sure when but they used to be near the movie theater, but they're now located inside Ellsworth Place! Took me some time but I finally found them. I had placed an order online and needed these shoes ASAP as I was getting ready to fly out of the country for a wedding. My order was ready immediately. Woot! Located in downtown silver spring. Right across from the chipotle and next to the Regal theater. Accepts Cash, credit card, Apple Pay and google pay. The store has tons of shoes for females. However, for men, shoes are extremely limited. In terms of cleanliness, the store is really clean. The AC was not working when I was there in July. Not sure if it was broken as other stores were much cooler in temps than here. It might have deter some customers from making a purchase. Otherwise, it appears to have plenty of shoes for men and women. Their pricing is reasonable and priced based on the market value and brand. They also sell accessories such as belts and hats / bags here. If you need shoes / accessories, this place will be helpful. However, they aren't the cheapest shoe store I've been. read more

I've never bought anything in this store until today. I actually ordered online and had it shipped due to my inability to ever be home more than 4 days at a time.y order was immediately ready for pickup about two hours after I ordered and I received an email confirmation that said to bring my id and my order was ready. When I got there to pick up the shoes I immediately went to the back to see what was in clearance just in case I saw something I wanted. Unfortunately there sales were sketchy and I didn't have time to decipher what was 30, 40, or 50 percent off. To be honest there wasn't a whole lot that was 50 percent off. When I went up front to check out the box my shoes I ordered was torn and ghetto looking. I immediately asked about a better box (I keep all my shoes in the box ) and the manager said "I pulled them...if there was a better box I would have given it to you." I took her word for it, but the box was tattered and totally not up to par. Either way everything went well and I was in and out in a few minutes. I will probably order again. Not my favorite store location. The stock is homogeneous, the sizes are limited, and I've only been able to find something here once or twice. The staff is friendly enough, but not proactive in helping customers. I keep my expectations low when I shop here, with the hopes that I might get lucky and find something. read more

This store has a great selection and is huge, well-lit, organized neatly (even the clearance section, surprisingly enough), and the aisles are uncluttered and kept clean. We didn't interact with the staff, but from what I observed, they were on task and assisting customers rather than goofing off, texting, or engaging in horseplay. read more

One of my granddaughter's favorite things to do is go to Silver Spring and have lunch at Masa for hibachi and then go shopping at DSW. We have never walked out of DSW without at least one pair of shoes each. Recently we visited the store and I was more interested in the purses than the shoes. Well I was excited to find exactly what I was looking for and at a reasonable price. I hadn't really thought about purse shopping at DSW but it was a total success. In the meantime our granddaughter found a pair of Vans that she felt she must have to go along with her other hundreds of pairs of shoes! They also have a nice selection of men's shoes, socks, leather cleaners, insoles, etc., etc. If you find a pair of shoes that they do not have in stock in your size the staff will call another store or offer to order them for you. We cannot spend time in downtown Silver Spring without a visit to DSW. read more

The store manager is super rude, arrogant, unprofessional lady who yells at customer for any purchase made if you ask her help. She lacks basic decency of running a business. Never had such awful experience at any of the DSW store and I have been a customer of DSW since 2013 and have shopped in many store and online.. She keeps on giving weird look and attitude to customer and have not trained other associate well to help in any shoe exchange or purchase process. So laid back and unprofessional manager who needs to be retrained again to handle a functional business and they should instill a bit of customer service relations in her. I think she is the new manager assigned here and have seen her at this store for couple of months .. I don't remember her name but I will update her name later so that customer knows how to deal with this JERK .. Previous manager were super nice,HELPFUL and friendly.. I have been shopping at this store for more than 3 years now.. This review is for staff and manager who worked at evening slot on 10/14/2019. The cashier was not trained enough to handle transaction well. Manager kept on arguing for the labelled price of the shoe which was same in store and online but had been charging up and did drama on price adjustments and allocation of my rewards use. A professional manager would have handled the problem better and explained with words. SHE is the most HORRIBLE MANAGER I EVER DEALT WITH AT DSW.. This store is conveniently in the heart of silver spring downtown. Location is convenient and options are good. It can't beat the one by Montgomery mall but it'll do it. I like to browse after eating and stroll around downtown. Staff are generally friend and available to assist as needed. I would say they need automatic door for people with strollers because the door is so heavy sometimes it's hard for me to get in and out. On weekends, they have security guard who sometimes help opening the door, but other times, it's such a struggle. Associates seem to just stare at you while you struggle to fit through the door with my stroller. Little help? read more

Shoes and me get along real well, maybe too well. I have enough shoes for a lifetime hopefully my feet dont shrink or grow 2 sizes. The selection at DSW is ok I feel good about that because I would be bankrupt if I saw every pair of shoes I like. Most of the shoes are average quality - they are not that cheap if made poorly if you understand what I am getting at. I did once find a pair of Nike running shoes for $30 that's probably the best deal ever. They do keep up with trends like the new boots or booties. Honestly women have a problem, they walk in and find an excuse to buy a pair of shoes. I only go there to find something I specifically am looking for but most of time I don't find it there. There're better sources. My advice is invest in one pair of good shoes than waste the same amount of money on 5 poor quality ones. read more

I love walking up and down your rows of sandals, flats, boots, heels, sneakers, just trying to find that perfect pair. But, DSW, I hate the fact that I can't have a long-term relationship with you. Your shoes are so cute, I want to be with them all the time. I'm with them in the morning, I'm with them in the evening. But only a few months later, your shoes can't take a high-maintenance relationship. They get holes in the bottom. The heels wear down. The tips get scratched beyond repair. DSW is a pretty good place to buy shoes. They have a wide selection of dress/casual shoes as well as an okay selection of sneakers. The store is bright and I can't remember there being annoying music playing. I like that I pay less for shoes here than I would in other stores. It feels good to be ripped off less by the shoe companies. My only gripe with the store is the men's clearance section. Every time I go back there it gets smaller and smaller as the woman's shoe section encroaches on our territory (I'm a guy and prefer to wear men's shoes since they fit a whole lot better). With the way things are going, in a matter of months there will just be a sign directing guys to a dark, sketchy loading dock around back where we will have to search through mismatched shoes strewn about the floor to find our bargains. So despite the fact that I rarely go to DSW anymore (sorry DSW, Zappos VIP just makes it so easy!) I still get coupons emailed to me so when my friends were running late I stopped in here to kill time. I found a cool pair of Blowfish houndstooth boots that were so preppy I had to have them! They were on the clearance rack for 40% off and I had my $5 bday coupon so I ended up paying $31 for boots that were originally $80. Sweet! The staff leaves much to be desired. When I was trying on the boots, a guy with interesting patterns shaved into his head came over to tell me that they looked good on me and proceeded to "flirt" saying how if I need anything at all to come to him even though he's shy with women but he tries to get his swag on anyway. Or something stupid. Creep. Then the cashier was so busy chatting with her co worker that she didn't answer when I said hello. She scanned my birthday coupon but I guess she forgot to hit enter or something so I had to tell her twice that the $5 wasn't discounted before she finally did it properly. Honestly, I've worked retail so I know that you probably don't care but at least ring me up correctly while you continue your conversation. read more

I bought a bunch of high heels a few years back. I was going through a pretty-shoe-buying phase. But sadly, I can't walk in high heels. Finally, I decided I'd return the shoes to DSW that I've had in my closet all this time, and buy shoes that I can actually wear and comfortably walk in. Before going to the store, I decided to contact DSW via their FB page. I asked if I could return the shoes if I bought them a while back, and I was told the following: "You will receive a full refund, but if it's over 60 days you will receive a merchandise credit which is a store credit... If you still have your order confirmations saved, you can print those out. They will act as your receipt and you can return the shoes back to the store for a refund. Can you let us know which ones were purchased in the store and we can try and locate those receipts for you." I went to the store earlier today, with order confirmation printouts. Apparently only one of the six pairs of shoes could be located in the system; everything else would not show up. I was being assisted by a cashier supervisor, and she said she couldn't do much because she can't locate those items. I requested for a supervisor, and thank goodness that I did so. Dylan came to assist. Despite not being able to locate the shoes, he offered me store credit. I really appreciated the help from him. Of the six, he told me DSW stopped carrying one brand altogether, and so he would not be able to offer me any refund for it. I'm just glad that at least I got some credit for returning the other five pairs of shoes. Lesson learned - just because DSW offers store credit, it doesn't mean they keep record of all your past purchases. read more

So, they do have lots of shoes. They also have sales clerks who don't understand their job is to provide customer service, and who refuse to make eye contact in case you upset their day by asking a question or needing help. But worse, they have crappy shoes. I tried to return a pair of shoes today that gave me multiple blisters walking from my place to the Metro, but because they were worn, I couldn't get my money back. This is the first time I've tried return a pair of shoes I had worn even though others have been uncomfortable, have made my feet hurt, have given me blisters and even bruises. Because these shoes ripped up my feet in under half-a-mile, to the point that I couldn't wear any shoe comfortably for almost a week. Which means that they just aren't very good shoes. I can count on one hand the number of times I've bought shoes here that didn't tear up my feet. I got to thinking that is normal, that new shoes are uncomfortable. But I discovered that is a dirty lie, and that good quality, well-designed shoes don't have a breaking-in period, don't give me blisters, and don't pinch. They are comfortable out of the box, and are still comfortable half a mile later. And they won't fall apart less than a year later from wear and tear like DSW shoes do. So I have nice, new, comfortable shoes (that are also pretty, and were actually cheaper than the POS pair I got at DSW), but I'm stuck with the shoes that were spawned from the fifth circle of hell. Never again. I'm sick of shoes hurting, and now that I know what shoes are suposed to feel like I'm never going back to the shoes that DSW peddles, and then don't stand by. read more

I purchased some shoes online--they ended up being too big. Since DSW online did not have the size I needed in stock, I brought them to another DSW location (in VA) to exchange them for a smaller size. regrettably, they didn't have ANY in stock, even though the website said they were available. I ended up returning them at the VA location. I don't recall the salesperson asking to help me find another location with the shoes in stock. I wrote to DSW online asking when they might replenish their online inventory; they suggested I contact another store, this time in MD. When I called this particular location (Silver Spring) to find out if they had any in stock, the lady confirmed that they did and asked her manager if she could put it on hold for 48 rather than 24 hours since I couldn't get up there the next day. They made an exception and put them on hold for 48 hours. I got there today and whoever helped me (I can't remember her name) provided EXCEPTIONAL customer service. When I told her what had happened (with the original purchase and return--I showed her my original receipt), she asked her manager if she could give me the discount (from the rewards certificate) that I had originally lost when I returned the shoes and they were able to do so. Wow--I left the store with a big smile on my face! These salesperson(s) took great care of me...I will be a customer of theirs for a very long time. If your thinking whether to shop at this one or the one in Wheaton mall, by all means go to this one. The shoe selection is better at this location. They have shoe selections that just are at the mall location. This place can get crowded, but it's downtown, so everything is. So getting service can be a little difficult. Also, the customer services is hands down way way way waaaaaayyyyy better compared to the location in the mall. Overall, better shoes, more shoes to selection from (which is always a beautiful thing), good customer service. I will certainty be coming back here. read more

After searching various shoe shops and department stores for a pair of affordable, comfortable dress shoes for work, I ended up at DSW. If you're picky about your feet like I am, this is the place to go. Stores that explicitly sell shoes for men are far too expensive for my tastes, whereas Macy's or Penny's are much more reasonably priced, but the selection is god-awful. At DSW, there are rows and rows of shoes, no pushy sales people trying to get you to buy the more expensive shoes, just boxes upon boxes. I spent an hour trying on different shoes until I found the ones that I liked. Never been more comfortable on my feet all day. read more

The store is clean and organized, however this a comment for the customer service. Every time I have come here the staff, the managers in particular has been very rude. On two separate occasions I called in advance to ask questions about an exchange or check availability of an item to make sure I was not wasting anybody's time and still the attitude I got about simple transactions made me leave feeling disrespected. I'm a little confused by all these reviews criticizing the quality of "DSW shoes." They carry, what, hundreds of brands? Hardly seems their fault if among them are some $20 heels that don't hold up as well as the $200 ones. Anyway, at least 80% of my footwear is from DSW, almost all from the clearance racks at this location. There are some great clearance deals! I'd recommend stopping by every week or two if you want to be sure not to miss anything awesome. Selection isn't vast like the Bethesda location, but then I get overwhelmed and end up curled in the fetal position surrounded by dozens of pairs of nearly identical turquoise heels whenever I visit the Bethesda location. I have a disability where I need to sit in a chair or I cannot stand up again. This store has low stools with no way for me to stand up once I am seated. Therefore, I cannot comfortably try on shoes in this store. Too bad! I reported it to the manager but I had already told her before I knew she was the manager. I was harassed by a homeless man in the store and the store attendant I reported the incident to was not even concerned. He simply said "oh yeah I saw him talking to himself when he walked out." I'm shocked. No one there seemed concerned with a man following a young woman around the store. Simply unacceptable. Shouldn't there be someone monitoring so that this doesn't occur? I go into DSW to buy one pair of shoes and I come out with three. I always come out with three. HOW DO YOU WORK YOUR SPELLS, O DSW? Is it the funky whistle-blowy jungle-y music from your ads that plays constantly and makes me feel that (like the ad women) I am a cheetah on the prowl for little shoe/gazelles? Sigh. I love this location. For some reason they tend to have a plethora of small sizes here (maybe silver spring-ites have collectively larger feet?), and super cute stuff on sale. I was good and didnt buy anything while i was here, but i soooo wanted to. During my trip i tried on at least 3 different pairs of high boots that i fell in love with- and i am very picky about boots. Definitely prefer this DSW to its Pentagon city counterpart. read more
