It is what it is. A cute little diner that has ok food but nothing exciting. They seem to have put a little more effort in the out side seating area looking a little more neat and clean but the inside not so much. They could have done more to ensure that their cute old style did not become gross and old looking. The bathroom is also pretty gross here and could use a little help. There seems to be a little too much choice in food for the amount of customers coming through here as well. Working in several restaurants in my younger years I have seen where small restaurants go wrong in storing food and choosing menu items and I am just not sure if I would want some of the things they are serving here for that reason. I have eaten here a few times and will probably give it another chance when I am in the mood because my daughter likes to grab something little here but I just haven't been as impressed as some people have here. read more

A wonderful little diner serving up great hearty breakfasts. For me, it was the breakfast burrito this morning - an incredibly huge and tasty start to the day. The burrito was chock-full of eggs, potatoes, peppers, onions, and your choice of protein (chose the turkey sausage myself). The filling was seasoned really nicely, with a hint of heat inside, and the burrito was topped with a great ancho chile sauce. Have this with a nice strong cup of their coffee and you can't help but have a good start to your day. The setting is classic, and what makes this place all the more special is the incredibly pleasant gentleman behind the counter (who I assume is the owner) - he makes everything from scratch using fresh, high-quality ingredients, making sure everything is just right for his guests. We were passing through town and just wanted a simple lunch on our way home. My wife had the Hula burger and opted front he grain fed burger patty ($2 more). I opted for the Caliente burgers with the normal beef. I wound up finishing my wife's burger so I tasted both kinds of patty. Each was a little different but both were good. The owner was attentive to our needs and checked on us a couple of times. It's not fancy but the food was good. The service was great as well. He was super fast but attentive at the same time. The burgers are all grass fed beef and I kid you not, the first thing out of my husbands mouth after one bite was "this is the best burger I have EVER had." He had the "double dare ya" burger. The funky smoker shack out front is the first clue you about to get some righteous bbq. The spicy pork Jones sandwich is the payoff. Perfect blend of tang, sweet and smoke. There are good and not so good things about D's - Excellent - 5 stars - they offer Niman Ranch Grass Fed beef - if you are looking for a healthier burger - this is the way to go! I don't even mind paying $2.50 more. We always get the Mel's Magic Burger - excellent bacon too! - D's Special Breakfast - spinach with eggs, bacon and spicy red sauce - YUM! - Service - always with a smile and cheerful attitude. - Open until 9pm and even if you walk in at 10 minutes till - they will cook your food! - good local coffee Not so good - the reason they only have 3 stars - a good burger place should have GREAT fries. This was my first and last time coming here. I ordered the veggie scramble it comes with 2 eggs, sautéed mushrooms, spinach, onion with toast. I asked if the eggs and toast could be substituted for potatoes, bell peppers and avocado. Sebastopol is one of my favorite road-trip towns. It's not really a desination unto itself, but it's slightly more than halfway between Oakland and Guerneville, the end-point for my summer day trips, and good for the first bathroom stop on longer journeys to winter vacation rentals on the north coast. The town is funky and slightly gentrified, just enough to give it that classic Northern Californian hippy-meets-yuppy vibe. Spend $200 on fancy cheese and wine at Whole Foods, then buy some crystals at the new age shop across the street. But for lunch there is only one option: D's Diner. One reason: Sweet potato fries. well.....we hadn't eaten at D's in years and I kept wanting to try it again because they advertized Niman Ranch meat. I didn't understand that they use two different meats (Niman and Angus--until he told me after I asked about our bill). I thought they only used Niman for all their burgers. My fault. ANYWAY, I ordered their basic Niman burger with cheese. My husband ordered a mushroom Niman burger with cheese and we had one order of sweet potato fries and one ice tea. The bill was $27.50 --- i was stunned. Everything was extra (cheese, fries, mushrooms, Niman) -- if you order Niman beef, it is $2.10 extra charge per patty, if I remember correctly. To be fair, their menu and pricing is there but I just didn't put it all together standing at the 'order counter' and folks, it adds up. Ok...we're hungry and it's all on the grill. Here's the deal: the burgers were just ok but not big or anything special. The garlic fries are satisfying and have the right amount of garlic on them. The burgers are big and have generous amounts of extras on them with your choice of cheeses. I ate there once or twice and concluded that it was a typical burger & fries diner with nothing to lure me back again. And since my mind was made up, I didn't return, not for years. Until recently, when our family decided to stop by for a quick dinner after my daughter's soccer game. I begrudgingly went along with it, assuming that everything on the menu would be either unappetizing or would upset my very sensitive stomach. Looking up at the menu posted on the wall above the order counter, the first thing I noticed was how much was on it. Far more than just burgers and hot dogs. What first caught my eye was the BBQ menu, ribs; pulled pork; tri-tip; all served with a variety of homemade sauces and traditional sides. It turns out that the owner, Musa Awad, smokes the meat himself and proudly showed us a huge pork butt that had been cooking since early that morning. The most surprising items on the menu were traditional Greek dishes. And since I'm a sucker for agood Gyro, that's what I ordered. To compliment our order, Musa brought us fresh Falafel with his homemade hummus. The Falafel was delightful, crispy on the outside, moist and soft on the inside, dipped in the hummus, it became heaven. I could have eaten solely that as my meal, but I'm glad I saved room for the Gyro. The meat was fresh and tender, thinly sliced and lightly drizzled with Tzatziki sauce. It has been a long time since I've eaten a truly authentic Gyro, and every bite of it was delicious. Musa has taken the traditional nostalgic diner and added his own flare to the menu. He is also very accommodating to dietary needs, offering plenty of vegetarian options and serving organic, locally sourced meats and vegetables, including Niman Ranch grass fed beef burgers. D's has a reputation for outstanding customer service, and this visit was no exception. Musa and his staff are kind and attentive. They provide a calm, friendly atmosphere in which all your needs are promptly met. If there is one thing that will keep me coming back, it's good service, and they've nailed it. D's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; and breakfast is served all day. I look forward to returning to try more of their intriguing menu items, such as the chutney chicken sandwich, spicy hot link sandwich, mid-eastern omelet, or a classic malt milkshake. They will be undergoing a small renovation soon, in which new red and white tiles will be laid in the outdoor dining area and the exterior spruced up a bit. Why I love this place? After my 2nd visit the owners greet me by name every week. Yes, every week I come for my cheeseburger fix, topped off with fries and chocolate shake. In addition to great food and personal (outstanding) service I enjoy the occasional sample. Taste of hummus, baklava made from scratch, or other goodie. The falafel is also awesome and I enjoy working my way through the menu, especially the Sunday Brunch. Had one of the best felafel sandwiches of my life today. I read the 'Bohemian' article raving about Moussa's (the owner) fabulous felafel and ran down to try it in spite of the rain. The lyrics can be found hanging on the wall at the entrance. This retro-styled eatery recently came under new management. The commenter warning of an employed child molester is out of date and you need not worry about that here. D's menu is full of specialty burgers & sandwiches, fish 'n chips and of course some decent shakes and malts.
