5 stars JUST for their Cucumber soda. Seriously. I haven't been to the tasting room yet, but I've been on the look-out for their Cucumber soda for about a month and finally found it at the Yellow Leaf Cupcake Co today. And... oh my god, it tasted like I was drinking a cucumber and it was somewhat strange but somehow a beautiful and addicting experience. I've also had the Juniper Berry, Lavender, and Lemongrass. Those were all okay but did not really excite my taste buds at all. The Cucumber was a different story and the one I'll be having from now on. Dry Soda reminds me of the old story the Emperors New Clothes. A couple of con men convince the king they're making him an invisible robe that can only be seen by smart people. Not wanting to appear stupid the king says he loves the robe and goes parading around town naked. And all the townfolk not wantint to appear stupid also claim that he looks great. Until one little kid yells "he's naked" I guess I'll be the one to yell that Dry is naked. I don't really "get" dry soda. I hear people all the time saying that they're great, that they're pleasant difference than sugary sodas, that they're great for non alchohold drinkers etc.They all taste like slightly more flavored sparkling water and with the exception of the Ginger I don't get much of the flavor they're meant to be. Blood orange tastes maybe faintly like orang zest. Apple tastes like the smell of an apple sitting on the counter. Lemon grass? nothing. Maybe I'm the kid, or maybe I'm the king but I seriously don't get it. read more

I actually LOVE dry soda and have had their store bookmarked on yelp for quite sometime. So imagine my excitement when we run into this store while walking back to our car from a mariner's game. However, I was thoroughly disappointed. The sales person was unenthusiastic about the product and also unenthusiastic about having customers in the store. The store itself was not very bright eyed and cheerful either, which was a disappointment because we had just walked out of Jones Soda and it was a complete opposite. Furthermore, it was a bit weird that I can buy Dry Soda for much less in any grocery store. I definitely will not be coming back as not only it is more expensive, but the service is not as friendly as let's say, Fred Meyers. What a shame. read more

I don't waste my money buying pop and it's not good for a healthy body anyway but my exception when I do drink something like this is Dry Soda. It's refreshingly not too sweet. I get it at Metropolitan Market on Admiral in West Seattle. My fav flavors are Lavender and Juniper Berry. Everybody I've served Dry Soda to so far has loved it. These sodas are really good. I don't like how sweet the soda is nowadays (I usually have to dilute them with water) so this brand was made perfectly to my tastes. I tried the blood orange, rhubarb, and lemongrass. I would have to say the lemongrass was by far the tastiest, but maybe I am just biased because I really enjoy sour and citrus-y taste of squeezed lemons in plain sparkling water. read more

Since I stopped drinking booze about 6 years ago, I have been on the look out for a beverage to accomplish the task that wine and sometimes beer completed for me back in the drunk days - pair well with food. I basically resigned myself to Pellegrino long ago, which is fine. It doesn't overwhelm the flavor of what's on my plate the way a soda, juice or coffee would and it offers a bit more excitement than a glass of water. Ho-hum. I was DELIGHTED to find Dry Soda about a year ago for all of these reasons. This is a local company that creates slightly sweetened soda that is meant to be paired with good food. Hell, it's meant to be served in a Champagne flute - even more fun for the girl who drinks Pellegrino out of wine glasses. At present there are four flavors: Lavender, Lemongrass, Kumquat and Rhubarb. Lavender was the first one I tried ( I really like eating flowers). Great flavor and according to the Dry Soda website is best paired with cheese courses, duck, pork, desserts and chocolate. Next I tried Kumquat - like a very subtle orange soda, but not at all comparable to say, an orange flavored Talking Rain. Great, refreshing, very, very nice. Suggested pairings: Oysters, mussels, sweet leafy greens, duck, white fish and risotto (though I would venture to guess it would really depend on the preparation). Lemongrass next - what a nice one. Very tangy, very dry. Pairs with the obvious Asian foods, also suggested is shellfish, goat cheese and asparagus. It took me a really long time to get around to Rhubarb. It has some floaties in it and it's the only on that isn't clear. But man - NUMMY. Crispy, sweeter than the others, sort of reminiscent of apple cider. Don't fear it - guzzle it. Pairings: Cow based dishes, and comfort foods. I have found it at Chandler's on Lake Union, Uwajamaya, Whole Foods and QFC at Harvard and Broadway. TRY TRY TRY! read more

Delicious! Refreshing! And oh-so-guilt-free! I try to stay away from HFC-laden soda in general, but my ginger ale and cream soda cravings are alive and kicking. That's why Vanilla Bean Dry Soda is so awesome. Its effervescence-ty subtle vanilla flavor satiates those sugar yearnings at just 60 calories. This review is just for the soda...I haven't been to the tasting room. I picked up a four pack at Henry's last week and got one of each flavor (lavender, kumquat, rhubarb and lemongrass). As everyone else here has said, they are lightly sweet, almost more like a sparking water with an essence of flavor, but so sophisticated and with tiny bubbles. I enjoyed the lemongrass with Greek food and then the kumquat with pasta. I haven't figured out what to have the other 2 with yet... Their website is awesome and I learned that the sodas were created by a woman who was pregnant and looking for something to pair with food when she couldn't drink wine (which is exactly the reason I bought them too!) It's so nice to have something elegant and tasty to drink with dinner that's also not bad for the baby because it's not loaded with corn syrup like other sodas. Beautiful design, thoughtful, unique flavors and a great female-owned Seattle-based company. I think I've found a new thing to crave! read more

When walking from the Underground Tour to Pyramid Brewing in Seattle on our honeymoon, we happened upon the DRY Soda tasting room - which is actually the company's HQ, too! We stopped in to try the flavors - I'd had a few DRY Soda flavors before but it was really cool to taste them all at once. You can also buy single bottles of DRY to go - I would have bought a variety pack if we weren't only in town for a few days! DRY Soda is a wonderful, natural alternative to regular soda - it's light, refreshing and full of flavor. Before going to Dry Soda for a tasting, I would highly recommend you stop drinking soda (Coke, Dr Pepper, Sprite, etc) for about 2 weeks to let your taste buds heal a bit. I stopped drinking soda about 3 months ago as I stepped foot in here to try some Dry Sparkling. Talk bout a different taste and a different feeling. All the flavors they have are amazing and I can't say it enough. Wish I could've brought some home or even back to my temporary home! Super friendly staff describing each flavor. Lemongrass was seriously awesome too. They don't try to sell you anything. You just walk in and try it and that's it. From the outside, they do look like they're closed in the middle of the day. However, check the hours on the door and even try opening the door. Wonderful vibe from this place and I left with a smile knowing there is a company that makes a good all natural beverage! read more

This is THE BEST non-alcoholic drink ever, along with that expensive British elderberry soda in pretty bottle you have to order from abroad 46 calories a bottle. Cucumber juice is a staple these days in specialty cocktails: Standard Grill in NYC has a great vodka cucumber concoction and so does Buddha's Belly in Santa Monica (Saketini is cucumber, vodka and Prosecco). I got it at Pharmaca, an obnoxious and pretentious holistic pharmacy in LA (Pacific Palisades has a doozy of a manager who accosted me while I took pictures of the esoteric ED remedies and the oddly intellectual or academic tampons like "Brilliant" and "Emerita"). I bought 3 bottles today and I'm going online to order it by the CASE! read more

Was walking around Pioneer Square and wanted to try this soda. It was very hot out and it was a free soda tasting, awesome sauce! I was just assuming I could choose one or two of their line to try. Nope the gracious and informative soda connoisseur had their whole line ready for me to try which included 7 of their sodas. She let me know what soda can be paired with a particular lunch or dinner I might be having. Also, how they pride themselves of only have 4 ingredients per soda and the backstory of their founder. Great little history and I loved all the sodas. My favorite was Blood Orange and the Juniper Berry. This is a great stop if you are walking around the square. When DRY opened their tasting room and company store in Pioneer Square, I was super excited! Want only one bottle? Yup, they can hook you up. Want a 24-pack shipped somewhere? They have you covered there too and every variation in between. Unsure whether or not you'll like Rhubarb? Trust me, you will... but if you can't take my word for it, they can pour you a chilled sample to assuage your doubts. I love buying local when I can so here are some stats on DRY soda, a Pacific Northwest treat! They are Seattle-based and bottled in Portland, with water from the Bull Run watershed, east of Portland in Mt. Hood National Forest. Each soda only has four natural ingredients: the purified water, the natural flavour extract, lightly sweetened with pure cane sugar (11-19 grams per bottle), and phosphoric acid as a natural preservative. The calorie count per bottle depends on the flavour and the range is 45-70 calories. There are seven flavours: Blood Orange, Cucumber, Juniper Berry, Lavender, Rhubarb, Vanilla Bean, and Wild Lime. Which is my favourite? Currently my DRY soda of choice is the Juniper though last week, I was in love with Rhubarb. They are open Monday through Friday until 5PM, though I'd recommend calling before heading down there so you're not disappointed. Street parking only with vigilant parking enforcement. Haven't made it to the tasting room yet but every time I see a flavor in the store I buy it! The lavender is my personal favorite of the bunch. A great flavor, subtle yet definitely there. Sweet but not too sweet. Fizzy and mmm mmm good. I love a good soda or fizzy beverage but I find your regular cola-type sodas way too sweet and the seltzer water flavored beverages not sweet enough. My boyfriend and I tried their Tasting Room today, and it was very enjoyable. Got to try all the types they offer, and I was pleasantly surprised. My bf and I have been looking for an alternative to alchohol and regular soda drinks for a long time, and Dry Soda delivers. Awesome alternative to sicky-sweet sodas.. pop in to their head quarters to buy up some Dry Soda! They even have a little bar where you can ask to taste flavors before you buy them. The sales lady was super duper nice and we chatted it up for a while. I brought home an assortment of their four flavors and my boyfriend and I had fun pairing them with different dinner & desserts! We don't drink so this place is an awesome find!! I saw the lavendar on my recent trip to bevmo and bought it as a novelty. I drank it and was hooked. It's a very simple soda with only 4 ingredients: purified carbonated water, cane sugar, natural extracts and Phosphoric acid (because you still have to get a little poison in you.) My only gripe is that it costs $7 for a 4 pack and there's a lack of flavors at both bevmo's in my area. BTW thanks Kati for the free passes. read more

I love DRY Soda because: - It has so many interesting flavours. (Love Blood Orange!) - It has a tasting room in Pioneer Square. ($6 for tasting and 4 packs of DRY Soda!) They now have 8 different flavours, and all of them taste subtly sweet and excellent with food/on their own/in cocktails. The lady working in the tasting room was super friendly and knowledgeable about food pairing options. Who else would talk about soda and food pairing??!! This is especially fantastic for someone, like myself, who doesn't want alcoholic drinks but wants something to drink besides water with meals. Unfortunately, their tasting room is open on weekdays only. If you happen to have a day off hanging out in Pioneer Square, you should definitely pay a visit to DRY Soda. read more

I have to confess that while I'd heard of Dry Soda - I hadn't actually tried any until we visited their store in Seattle. There we met a very nice gal running the tasting room/store who gave us a taste of their 4 current flavors. Very nice - not too sweet! And we now know more about the background behind the soda line, and even a few flavors they have in the works for later this year! My hubby particularly liked the food pairings (he's a bit of a foodie) - and we thought of several friends that we need to introduce to Dry Soda. I really enjoy their sodas but a visit to the location was a little odd. Quiet weekday afternoon decided to swing by while walking through Seattle. The space was laid out with a modern look but not really designed for hanging about (it's also pretty small). The gal behind the bar seemed a bit bored and tired of explaining their sodas and how it all worked. And for a tasting aspect, it felt like every sample sip had to be dragged out. I enjoy DRY soda but didnt find the experiment reflective of the image the company portrays. read more

The flavors of lemongrass, rhubarb, lavender, and kumquat are exceptional. The soda's are light, slightly sweet, not overwhelmingly carbonated, and delightful. The bottles retail for a little under $2 and are found at "better" grocery stores - Metropolitan Market, Whole Foods, etc (there is also a listing of restaurants where it is sold on the website). Soda for those who can handle tastes above the usual high fructose corn syrup stuffed pablum.Compare this rating to my Jones soda rating. Have you ever wondered why most soda and juice companies seem to stuff about 33 grams of high fructose corn syrup in 8 ounces of drink? Why does apple juice need to be as sweet as Coke? I've always wanted - at least as an quasi adult - a soda that was thirst quenching, not too sweet and tasty. Dry soda meets all those criteria and more. Each bottle contains 16 grams of real sugar. No high fructose corn syrup, no weasel words "may contain", but real honest to goodness sugar and less then half the going rate for most soda. The choice of flavors , at present, is limited to four. I tried: lavender, rhubarb and kumquat. All were dry, crisp and refreshing. I found the lavender well a bit too perfumed for my tastes, but others enjoyed it. The rhubarb is outstanding; it's refreshing, dry, clean and a bit reminiscent of rhubarb wine. I have not tried the lemongrass yet. My only complaint is the price. At about $2 a bottle this stuff won't be a stock item in my fridge. Any soda that's pricier then beer is looking for a very limited, or nonexistent, market. read more

Another soda company so close to Jones? We had seen their sodas for the first time in Portland at House Spirits but had no idea that they were based in Seattle. Let's go inside. We were greeted by a friendly young man who asked us if we were interested in a free tasting. Sure! It was funny because my husband kept swirling his cup prior to tasting as if we were at a wine tasting. We had all of the different flavors but the ones that stood out were the Cucumber & the Ginger soda for us. I also liked the Lavender but my husband said it was too perfumey. In our local area Whole Foods carries their soda but when we went to purchase the Cucumber soda, that flavor was not available. The guys at Dry Soda have such a keen sense of design, a visit to their Seattle headquarters will leave you inspired to paint your walls bright orange. The soda tastings are unique and a lot of fun. Special "Dry Soda" champaign flutes are brought out so that you can sample the four different soda varieties. Although the flavors are very light, it is the simplicity of the ingredients and the subtlety of the sweetness that makes the soda surprisingly refreshing. This place is fun! My cousins and I were watching TV and were being introduce to this dry soda frenzy. We realized it was in Seattle and planned our day to visit! The guy who helped us was super nice and we were able to sample all the flavors they had. I was surprised we were able to sample them for free ! It was really fun and he taught us all there was to know about Dry Soda. I buy the Vanilla Bean version of this pricey soda (with less sugar) at my local "Fresh Market" for $2.00 a can - often $1.49 on sale. 60 Calories per (12 oz.) can and good as an OCCASIONAL treat. Love it and can't wait to try more varieties. Update: Still love the Vanilla one - but i have now tried the cucumber one and i don;t like it. Hint's Cucumber Water is much better. This one has an herbal sweetness that I don't care for. the Blood Orange variety is very good and my kid likes that one. Still, Hint water (zero calories and no sugar) or spring water are healthier choices. But - much better for me than my occasional can of Dr. Browns. read more

Three words: FREE SODA TASTING! I feel in love with DRY a year ago when I randomly bought it in a small SF cafe. It's still rather hard to find DRY in the Bay Area in most grocery stores. I've seen it in Sprouts and supposedly they have it at some Whole Foods as well. I love that it's got way less sugar than regular soda does and their flavors are so natural and refreshing. Their HQ has free tastings for all the 11 flavors they offer. The soda-rista was very accommodating and super nice. She had a few tips on food pairings that were useful as well. My personal top 3 favorites are: Vanilla Bean, Cucumber and Cherry! Special shout outs to Lavender and Blood Orange :) Give Juniper Berry a try. It's not a flavor that's offered in most retailers. TIP: (1) They sell in bulk and individual refrigerated bottles and cans. (2) No bathrooms inside but there is a Starbucks around the corner. read more
