This is the first review I have ever posted to yelp--that is how happy I am with the service provided by the staff of this establishment. Searching for the elusive "Jewish Wisdom Ball" as a humorous gift for my 92 year-old father (who fortunately needs nothing), it was out of stock everywhere, until it showed up on the gift shop website, on sale no less. I placed my order and crossed my fingers. Within 48 hours I received a cheery message wishing me a "Happy Hanukkah", confirming shipping and actually apologizing for not having mailed it faster in the midst of the busy holiday season! I have since had occasion to contact them again and they are always prompt, professional and courteous. The gift shop is in Seattle while I live in Illinois, yet they treat me as though I am an old friend or longtime congregation member who has been walking through their doors often over the years. Based on this positive experience I intend to continue to support them with future purchases where appropriate. They are the sort of people we need more of in the world today and I can't thank them enough for the manner in which they do their jobs.

My last visit to the Market was many years ago, well before the MarketFront expansion opened in 2017. On our most recent visit, I was amazed by how much of its original character had been preserved. The bustling fishmongers, colorful flower stalls, local craftspeople, specialty shops, and iconic Public Market Center clock and sign were all still there. At the same time, the surrounding area had undergone some improvements, particularly the MarketFront expansion, with its spacious outdoor plaza and panoramic views of Puget Sound. We generally try to avoid places that feel overly touristy, but Pike Place Market is an exception. This is a working market, not simply a tourist attraction, and an essential Seattle destination. What I appreciate most is how it has retained its distinctive personality despite welcoming millions of visitors each year. Its longstanding emphasis on local farmers, independent merchants, artisans, and small businesses gives it an authenticity that many commercialized destinations lack. Of course, even this bastion of local character has a world-famous corporate neighbor. Yes, the original Starbucks is right here! Coffee enthusiasts will recognize it as the birthplace of the global coffee giant. Another quirky attraction lurking beneath the Market, along Post Alley, is the infamous Gum Wall. My husband found it downright grotesque, but since we had come all this way, I simply had to see it for myself. A visit to Pike Place Market is a full-on sensory event, with photo opportunities at practically every turn. From the bright, freshly harvested fruits and vegetables to the endless rows of buckets overflowing with vibrant flowers, the colorful displays are irresistible. The aromas and energetic bustle make the entire experience feel wonderfully alive. Then, there's the fish-throwing spectacle. Watching the fishmongers toss their catches back and forth across the counter is one of the Market's most entertaining traditions. It's part performance, part teamwork, and entirely captivating. Multi-level, blocks long, tons of different ways to enter here. Prepare yourself for a ton of stairs to get from level to level. There are so many places to check out that there are too many to name, or remember for that fact. I had to check out the fish flinging. The one thing that most people from out of town know of this place. Seeing it on shows and in movies, you definitely want to see this yourself. It's not always like that. But stick around for a bit, you will see a fish or two fling through the air. The connectivity of this place is amazing. You can make your way from most places downtown to the Waterfront through here. A lively area that can be quite beautiful.

But I enjoy the temporary exhibitions they install. I've been going to the SAM for more than 20 years. I can't afford to be a member or pay the regular admission, so I'm excited to go on Free First Thursdays. It's such a wonderful opportunity and program to those who can't afford to view art, but appreciate it.

I peeked into Fireworks Gallery minutes after deplaning in Seattle. Not because I'm an idiot who…read moreshops for souvenirs on the first day of a trip, but because I'm an idiot who forgot to put shoes on her two-year-old before leaving for the airport back home. I kind of thought you could buy most essentials at the airport, but it turns out children's shoes are not a typical travel need, at least when they aren't being worn by traveling children. Fireworks did carry children's slippers, which caught my eye as I passed, as well as a nice assortment of unique, crafty toys and gifts. Unfortunately, my five-year-old followed me into the store and zeroed in on a tiny, colorful finger puppet in the shape of a parrot. He asked me to buy it for him, and I declined, telling him we weren't getting a souvenir before we even left the airport. He was upset by this to the point of tears, but I managed to get us out of there. We had a wonderful time in Seattle, and to his credit, the five-year-old behaved well the whole trip (and the two-year-old got new shoes). When I saw Fireworks Gallery again by our departure gate, I decided at the last possible second to stop in and get him the parrot. It was one of several Folkmanis finger puppets in a wire basket. I picked it up along with a bunny rabbit and went to check out. There was a short line at the register--I guess this shop gets decent traffic--and by the time I was up, my husband was calling to tell me we were boarding. This is how I paid $36.36 for two finger puppets that cost $10 apiece online. Fireworks got me good, but my boys do love their little puppets, which are soft and cute and well made. The wares here are definitely nicer and less generic than at your average airport store. It might cost you, though, if you wander in there with your kids.

When we went through all 4 levels of the museum though, there was no fossil dig to be found. After asking staff , they mentioned it's only once or twice a year. A bit of a bummer since that's the main thing my kid wanted to do! Just 1 star off for that. The husky scavenger hunt kind of made up for it! If you're coming with a kid they'll offer the scavenger hunt & I'd highly recommend it to make the visit more interesting for the little ones! All in all I definitely recommend checking out the Burke Museum & also stop by Off the Rez (connected cafe) while you visit!

The Frye is a coalescing of sculpture, painting and a smattering of other media from the 19th century to contemporary. Since it's opening in 1952, the pieces on display have evolved from the original 232 pieces of mostly allegorical depictions of nature, scenes of daily life and portraiture, to include abstract and modern art as well. The museum brings together works collected by Charles and Emma Frye, local owners of a successful meat-packing plant who collected artwork from European and American artists of their time (second half of 19th century and early 20th century). Their original collection was displayed in a "salon style," with paintings hung floor to ceiling so visitors could engage in discourse about the various subjects, interpretations and comparisons while enjoying music and company of other cultural and intellectual counterparts. Bequeathed to the public upon their passing, their collection was first offered to the Seattle Art Museum though due to a number of stipulations set forth by the Fryes' will, was declined. Aside from one of the reasons being that the collection was to be shown free of charge, interestingly this also included a clause that the pieces not be shown together with abstract works. To the benefit of the community though, in 2007, the museum's mission shifted to become a space that also highlights contemporary artists, while still maintaining the spirit of the salon via a large portion of the original works shown this way in a large rectangular gallery. My experience here was pleasant, it took about 45 minutes to go thru, though you could spend less if preferred. There's small lounge seating area to take a break if you need, designed using the museum's art as inspiration, and next to that a cafe and bathrooms (which were in decent shape). A small gift shop is located at the front of the museum next to the front desk. Some uphill walks but it was a nice walk actually. The museum is free which is nice you walk through and it is pretty much filled with many unique rooms, each with different pieces of art. It was pretty quiet but I do enjoy the placement of every piece. It's not a big museum so this probably won't take up so much time.

As we were walking up to the Space Needle we could see the fog. At first I thought we should go to…read morethe Chihuly Garden and Glass House first and wait till the fog burns off. Then I thought it opens at 9am and it's probably the least crowed at 9am. We took the chance that the fog would burn off while we were up there. As it turned out the fog only got worse while up there. We were told that fog could last all day and never burn off. I'm glad we went up when we did. At 8:45am we went to the kiosk and purchased tickets. They have around 5 kiosks. If you aren't into a digital environment you can also walk up to the box office. There was no wait to use the Kiosks so we did that. Plus we didn't see the box office till we were already in line. There were only around 5 people in line so it wasn't bad, but the line wasn't moving fast. It's $55 Space Needle ticket; $40 Chihuly Garden and Glass House ticket. Together $74 = save $21. We opted for the combo ticket. It also offered an imax movie, but we didn't partake. There is also a CIty Pass, but it sounded too complicated and we weren't sure what our third event would be. Even getting there at 9am there was still a line to get in, but it went fast until we got to the elevator. There was a gal that stood in line with her party and then ducked out when they got to the ticket booth. That was nice of her. They have a two part ticketing system. When you get up to the walkway they check your ticket, but don't scan it. They don't scan it till the top of the ramp, right before the elevator. Scanning tickets went pretty smoothly and there was really no rush as there was a line to get into the elevator that was at a standstill till the elevator arrived. It arrived every 45 seconds. Even if you buy tickets together on the Kiosk they give you separate tickets so you have to scan each individual ticket at the scanner. Once we go to the top, there was plenty of room so there was not an issue taking pictures with out people in your pictures. I was thrilled about that. I really love pictures and it's so frustrating when you can't get a clean shot. I love all the photo stops. You scan into the Photo Booth via a QR code and then enter your ticket number or your phone number. The only issue I have is I don't know how to look up my photos once I look at them on my phone. I can't figure how to pull up the album again. So, be ware of this or be more tech savvy then me. I was only able to forward the pictures. I couldn't figure out how to download the pictures from the app. I did figure out if I forward the picture I can then go to the sent items and click share and then I was able to download it to pictures. The photo booths were so fun. I think there are 4 of them. Most of them have you look into the camera and it has a little count down screen so you know how long to smile. The pictures have two digital images. A pigeon that is smacked against the glass and some astronaut in the second one. You can retake the pictures as many times as you want just get in line again. The lines were usually on 1 to 3 parties in-front of me. It was so quick. I think I went to each kiosk twice. There is a camera at the top of the line, but it was out of order. I was so sad as that picture was a blue screen that was the Space Needle behind you. That would have been so cool. I stayed on the observation deck and inner part of the space needle for around an hour. I feel that was enough time to get all my pictures. The old walk up cafe is closed. They have a expensive 21+ bar that you can also get food at. You need reservations and there is limited seating and I mean limited. I belive they have a walk up kiosks where you can get non alcoholic drinks as I saw several people with drinks sitting in the indoor seating area. They have few seats, but the ones they have are so cool, you can look out the window on those high boy seats. I believe you have to drink your drinks inside as I didn't see anyone with drinks on the viewing deck. There is a great gift shop at the first level was so vast. It was circular and went all the way around the base of the Space Needle. You can buy glass made during the demo at the Chihuly Garden and Glass House. The glass is so beautiful I resisted getting one of their glass Christmas ornaments as they are too heavy for my petite tree. I'd did get several socks and a cute lavender T-shirt with an artsy rendition of the Space Needle. I loved their selection. I reccomend you visit as early as you can to get the least amount of people on the viewing deck allowing you to get the cleanest shot. The tickets are totally timed. They are in 15 minute increments and don't be late. That being said you aren't limited to the amount of time you stay. As the day on this can cause congestion. With all those selfies cameras you can go alone if you want. Plus people are happy to take your picture. This was the highlight of my trip.
