Gifted my son drunk Romeo and Juliet for Christmas and went last nigh in the absolute freezing NYC. It was hilarious and clearly these are great actors because even after 7 shots of tequila the lead crushed it. Really funny, cast was absolutely amazing. Had a great time, Don't think, get tickets now.

STEPH JUDGEMENT: A great drunken party, with a side of Shakespeare. We got some discount tickets through a friend and it seemed like a theater experience right up our alley, as we are not theater people. The theater itself was small and guerilla-style, with seating around the room and the "stage" being the floor in the middle. We were offered a complimentary small cocktail upon arrival and were encouraged to drink throughout the night, as befitting the name of the production. The gimmick here is that one of the leads has to do 4 shots of vodka at the beginning of the play, and possibly 2 more shots during the performance, by the pleasure of the "king and queen" (2 people who opted to pay more $$ to sit in the special seats). The play of the night was Romeo & Juliet, and our Romeo dutifully downed the 4 shots and we were off to the races. All the actors play multiple parts, and everyone was great, we were especially impressed with the guy who played Mercutio and the priest, who had some amazing acrobatic moves and put the sexy in sexy priest when he doffed his habit to grind along to Ginuwine's "Pony", a la Magic Mike! During the performance there were some stopping points, where the king and queen rang a little bell and had Romeo drink some more, which they did. I mean, why wouldn't you? Needless to say, it was total mayhem, but it was really fun and we had a great time. If you're up for some very irreverent Shakespeare, this is for you.

Went and saw the Halloween special drunk Dracula. This show was absolutely hilarious. Loved it so much and I liked how they were interactive with the audience. Great comedy show.

Colloquially, it's an absolute hoot! Bawdy, hilarious and an incredibly intimate atmosphere with theatre characters we all grew up with. We bought tickets based on a rec from an old work colleague. His wife was playing Juliet and It was a delightful way to spend our last night in NYC. Would go again!

Wonderful performance and great little venue. They keep it funny, fun and short enough not to get annoying. Drinks are slow but for this kind of event reasonably priced. I would absolutely recommend.

The show was so entertaining that I saw it twice this past weekend. Service was great and the staff was attentive. The cast was versatile and excellent with their characters and improvisation. Not your typical Shakespearean play but definitely one fitting for the times we are in. I would highly recommend this production if you're looking for something fun and different to watch.

Ehhh the reviews were good on Google and yelp. It was $29 on Groupon. It wasn't that funny to be honest. they are lucky I didn't pay full price. I would've been totally pissed. Also the drinks were $20 and there was no liquor in it at all so this is just a ploy to get you to come by drinks at the bar. The lady comes around with the last call sign when it's almost over but why buy non-alcoholic drinks I don't think the actors are really drinking. It wasn't funny to me, but to each his own.

If you're not necessarily a fan of Shakespeare, but your wife is then Drunk Shakespeare is a definite win/win compromise. First off everyone is offered a shot on the way in. That's a positive start right there. The drinks are a bit pricey, but hey you are in New York so get over yourself and enjoy. There is drink service right to your seat throughout the show. There's also not a bad seat anywhere within the cozy little performance area. Finally the performers are just fun people enjoying what they are doing. Plenty of energy and plenty of laughs. I was so pleasantly surprised with the overall experience. Keep up the great work Drunk Shakespeare.

Ask the Community - Drunk Shakespeare

    Is it 21+?

    Yes!

How expensive are drinks during the show? I bought floor seating and don't want to break the bank even more.

We got 2 drinks and chips for $35

    What's the dress code?

I wore nice jeans and a flowy top. Some are more dressed up. Just wear comfy shoes as you climb a lot of stairs.

    What's the best seating?

Floor seating is fun if you enjoy interacting with the cast but is a little more $$

Has anyone been able to successfully redeem their yelp deal? I have gottenno response from venue or?

I would hop on Groupon and grab that deal instead. It's a way better deal and I can vouch that it works.

Is the Late show different from the other show times?

All the shows are different in what is depicted. You could go to the show three different times and see different things, and that's what makes it unique.

    1. Do they serve food or should we plan on eating dinner before the show? 2. Any dinner spot…

They do have light snacks available for purchase but no real food, so plan for dinner before or after!

Do they ever do anything other than MacBeth?

I have seen it twice, 2015 and 2017, both times were Macbeth and the same drunk actor. I think they do change drunk actors but not sure how often. They were suppose to add a second play but not sure if that has happened yet.

The comics were non stop, about 8 of them on a Tuesday night for the 7pm show. We were lucky enough to experience the famous Brian Scott McFadden, absolutely hilarious! There's a two drink minimum. The server was not the friendliest, but got us our drinks. Shockingly she said they had no hot drinks that were listed on the menu, which is very suspicious as one of them is tea. My wife and I had a blast…read more Everything about the evening show (starting around 9 pm?) was excellent, but there is one thing I want to point out the most -- the extraordinary effort the comedy show host and all the comedians made that night. We made a spontaneous decision to attend the show because we heard someone walking around saying "Comedy show!" I'm not even sure it was someone from Comedy Village as we didn't get a good look at him in the crowded street, but we were looking for something to do next as we were wandering around aimlessly after watching a Broadway play ("Art" if you haven't seen it, is a must-see.) A comedy show sounded like a great idea as that's one of our favorite things to do when we're vacationing in other towns. Comedians can easily do a great job on nights when everything is going well -- the crowd is big, there's high-energy in the audience, etc. But you really learn about comedians' commitment to their craft when, for example, it's a federal holiday, and it's an unusually quiet night by NY standards, and it's cold and bitter outside. We were part of a tiny crowd that night and wouldn't have blamed the performers for phoning it in. But they didn't. The host was outstanding, and his energy set the stage and the tone for the night. He and the other comedians willed the audience to a great show. I was way more impressed by them under those circumstances than I would have been at a packed house on a more pleasant evening. Job well done! On top of that, the food was surprisingly good. Food typically isn't much to write home about at a comedy club, but everything we ordered came out hot and delicious. As a bit of a chicken wing snob myself, I also give two buffalo-sauce-drenched thumbs up to the wings. Last but not least, the service was excellent, too. Service at most restaurants today is, well, not great. But the service here walked that perfect balance between checking on us enough to make sure we had what we needed without being annoying. We're going to start heading up to New York much more often, and we'll absolutely return to Comedy Village!

I reserved a spot online to avoid the hassle of not making the cut at the standby line. As a party of 1, I sat with another party of 1 and she was there to see Usama Siddiquee as well. What a coincidence! 2 item minimum and phones are put in a puffy mailer bag that you have on you until the rest of the show. Their beef yakitori skewers were juicy and tender! My cucumber gin drink was refreshing and not too strong. Each comedian that went up did such a great job with various styles of humor and experiences to share. I wasn't expecting a drop in but Marcello Hernandez from SNL went up and did some new material. God.. I love good surprises. Founded back in 1982 in a basement on MacDougal Street, and it's stayed almost exactly what it's always been: low ceilings, brick walls, candlelit tables packed close enough together that you're basically eavesdropping on the next table over whether you want to or not. Godfrey is a regular here, and he never fails to make me split my sides. He's been holding down rooms at this club for the better part of three decades at this point, and it shows every single time. Then there's the actual reason people fly in from out of town for this place: the surprise drop-ins. I got lucky and caught Kevin Hart doing a full 45-minute set for my friends visiting from out of town, completely unannounced. That's the magic of this room. Chappelle, Chris Rock, Seinfeld, half the biggest names in comedy have all quietly walked through that door to work out new material in front of a crowd that has no idea who's about to walk on stage next. Food and drinks are great, though pricey. Doesn't matter. You're paying for the room and the possibility of a night like that, and I'd happily pay triple just for the ticket alone with no food or drink involved. Only real knock: the door guys aren't especially friendly, and if you land on their bad side, they will kick you out, so tread carefully there. You also lock your phone away in a pouch the second you walk in, which sounds annoying and is actually the best part of the whole system, since it means the room is actually watching the show instead of filming it. Service moves fast and you barely notice them working around you. Just make sure you order everything you'll need up front, once the room gets going, they don't want anyone breaking the flow to flag down a waiter. A true New York institution, and worth every dollar.

The tickets were easy to purchase from online, and I was even able to get a discount code for five dollars off. I came early to check out the place, and found that it looks like they had some improv happening on the stage located on the main floor. They have two stage rooms, one upstairs on the main level and the other downstairs. After looking at the one downstairs I would have personally liked to been seated there because upstairs was hot as the dog days of summer in NYC. The bathrooms were also located down there. The main level just felt a little uncomfortable because of how the chairs and tables were sat up. There was a two drinks minimum you had to purchase and they had appetizers available to support those drinks. I just ordered some fries and a mudslide. The fries were ok, and my drink was really good. My coworkers ordered some mozzarella bites, chicken wings etc. I sampled the mozzarella bites and they were really good, better than my fries. Customer service was good and the food and drinks came out pretty fast. Now as far as the show goes, the comedians they had, they were all pretty funny and so I did laugh enough. My coworker was pretty good too. Now the question is would I return? I would only want to return to this place if the show is downstairs. Of course, Tony didn't tell us there'd be a 2 drink minimum, but that would have been ok if the comedians he had told us were there were actually there. They weren't. These were totally unknown comedians and we were going to need to spend another $20+ each to stay to watch some comedians that were obviously signed on to work in this sketchy theater. Even our 12 year old would need to buy a drink! To add to the bad experience, the place looked like trash and was basically in the basement with metal folding chairs. We left, went to look for Tony who had apparently vanished faster than the comedians he promised us. If Tony put half as much effort into honesty as he does into his sales pitch, he'd probably have an actual career. Dear Broadway Comedy Club: Don't bother following up to this message telling people that "Tony" was an independent contractor and it's not the theaters fault.
