Went to the Comedy Cellar yesterday (Saturday) for the 6pm show and it turned out to be hilarious. I usually go to later shows since the jokes tend to get a bit spicier, but last night proved that no matter the time, Comedy Cellar always delivers. There's a two-item minimum purchase, and I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. It's free and super easy to do online. Phones are placed in sealed pouches during the show, which actually makes the experience even better because everyone is fully present. We had a few cocktails, beers, and wings and had a fantastic night. I think this was my 20th time here and I'll definitely keep coming back. Sometimes you just need a night full of laughter to clear your head, and Comedy Cellar is always a great place for that.

While we spent the weekend in New York City- we wanted to see some live standup which led us to the Comedy Cellar. We had a really wonderful experience! The staff were very kind, efficient, & helpful. We ordered sliders & French fries to share that all came out hot. As a woman who appreciates French fries these were exactly what I wanted- seasoned well & plenty for the both of us. We enjoyed the comedians we were able to see & the energy in the room was fantastic which they played to. Really great evening!

First time going to stand-up comedy in New York, and Comedy Cellar delivered 150%. Personally, I liked it more than Second City in Chicago. Laughed the entire time - so many talented comedians + occasionally they have celebrity guests. Make sure to book in advance and forget about personal space - seating is tight. Come see them - you'll thank me later. Can't wait to be back.

We went to the Comedy Cellar for the 7:30 shows hubs made the reservation online, which was super easy, but you don't actually pay ahead. Just make sure you get there before the cut-off time or they'll give your seats away (they don't mess around with that). The weekday cover is $15, but there's a two-item minimum per person, so it can add up. We'd already had dinner, so we just got fries and water, but they do have a full food menu if you're hungry. I've been to a few shows here and honestly, it never disappoints. This time we came specifically to see Emil Wakim and he was just as funny live as he is on TV. Every comic had their own style, and somehow the whole show flowed perfectly. The atmosphere and crowd interactions make each show so unique. Such a fun night, start to finish. We've already decided we're making this a yearly tradition!

Good cover charge my first time here and I enjoyed myself. I missed the first comedian but the rest were very funny. I would definitely reccomend this place for great laughs. 3 different venues with shows half hour apart

What a fun experience to watch stand up comedy where many big names have started out. The MacDougal location is the OG Comedy Cellar, so I had to book this one for my first time. The cover charge ranges depending on day and time, but all Sunday shows are $18 per person. I made reservations a few days ahead, which was easy. They provide clear instructions for you noting no phones and 2 item minimum purchases (including a menu with prices for you beforehand too). We arrived half an hour early and were seated front row. I was slightly nervous for getting called out, but it wasn't bad at all. It is best to arrive early so you have time to order food/drinks and settle in as you don't want to miss anything inbetween. I had an Old Fashioned ($16), which was nice and strong. Also ordered the fries ($8), which came in a huge basket and were super crispy. I was addicted to these fries --yum! I saw the table next to me get the nachos and it was enormous too. The portions are great and food was honestly solid. Great experience overall. Each comedian was not too short nor too long. I enjoyed this experience more than I thought I would. Lastly, I can't stop thinking about those fries.. (Too bad I have no photos due to the no phone policy)

Horrible seating has to be some yup elf code violation

The comedians were great and genuinely funny -- no complaints there. But the seating situation was way too packed. They jammed so many people in that you literally couldn't move. I couldn't even eat my food because the person next to me's hair was basically in it -- and it wasn't even their fault. There was just no space. It felt cramped, uncomfortable, and took away from the experience. Comedy should be fun and relaxing, not a game of "don't bump into your neighbor while chewing." The one comic with the orange hat on sucked !!! Making a joke about anyone getting killed isn't funny Also you can order food they don't tel you that before you make reservations

Interesting comedy show. It was underground right near Washington Square Park. It was 25 bucks cover and you had to put your phone in a bag so not to record anything. The place also requests ordering 2 items each. It was very dark down in the basement and a lot of tables were there to see the show. Mostly tourists were there. Some of the comics were funny and some were average. Overall, it was a cool experience.

Bring long pants and a jacket. It was unbearably cold which made the show rather unpleasant, even the dj mentioned the cold. It took forever for the show to start. The food is as expected... the breakfast burrito had absolutely no taste. The cheeseburger was good. The ac cooled the food down so quickly. We whereby offered refills on our sodas.. which left me with a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth considering the 25 dollar ticket price.

The Moth is a storytellers event that occurs at different places, and the one I went to was at Housing Works Bookstore and Cafe, which was the perfect venue. It started at 7:30 and ended at 9:30, there's no drink minimum, you can bring your own food, and tickets are cheap, but hard to get. It's essentially a show where people who'd previously entered their names get picked to tell stories in under five minutes. Anyone can do it, and anything can be said. There were funny ones, sad ones, dramatic ones, silly ones, overall twelve performances along with a host who introduces each one. They also sell drinks and snacks there, which goes to a great cause. Whether you're looking for something New Yorky, cheap, chill, cute, or thought-provoking, The Moth will satisfy.

Going to a Story Slam hosted by The Moth is actually one of my favorite things to do in the city…read more The story slams happen 4-6 times a month at various locations around Manhattan and Brooklyn (see the website for schedule). Each slam has a different theme. If you feel that you have a worthy 5-min story, you can put your name in the bag, where they draw out names. Ten storytellers go up and these stories are judged by three teams of judges from the audience. The winner of the slam goes on to the Quarterly GrandSLAM Championship. It lasts about 2.5 hrs and costs $8. I've gone to a couple of these at the Housing Works and I'm always really impressed by the quality and talent of most of the storytellers. Many of them take this quite seriously and you can tell that they spent time crafting their story and delivery. The best stories aren't the ones that are merely funny, but they're poignant, send you on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows, and leave you with a message and something to think about. There's a certain raw honesty and catharsis that comes through and the audience is always supportive, especially so for the new storytellers who stand up there alone and vulnerable. Indeed, if the audience feels the judges are too harsh, the audience lets the judges know. At the Story Slam at Housing Works, the doors open at 7 pm (stories start at 7:30). There are limited seats, so if you're dead set on sitting, stand in line by 5:30. There are plenty places to stand and get a good view as Housing Works' second floor is a mezzanine. Recently I got to the line by 6:30 and easily found a comfortable spot to stand and watch (wear comfortable shoes!). The ticket sales of the Story Slam goes directly to The Moth. Housing Works, which is a wonderful organization that helps people with HIV/AIDS, sells alcohol and snacks, so you're giving to a great cause by drinking.

I was paired with a small group of out of town visitors who brought their family to NYC and wanted them to experience the Accomplice. The parents of the family group were repeat guests like myself who like me absolutely enjoyed their experience several years prior and wanted to share it with their family. It's NYC so even when you participate in the live experience it may seem awkward that an actor is making a scene (literally) on the streets of NYC but nobody bats an eye cause weirdness can feel normal on the streets of Manhattan. Accomplice still has the typical tour around the small area of the city where you interact with amazing actors and make your way to the grand finally where you share a simple drink with your group to celebrate your accomplishment. The staff do offer a hotline to get clues if you are stuck but thankfully my group was witty enough to figure out our way through our adventure. Accomplice is also great for corporate team building activities. I've raved about this experience at my office for years and one of my teams decided to book with the show. Not only did my office team have an amazing time but buzz is going around the office about this show that another team was considering booking but business guests thought it would be too cold in November for such an event; such party poopers! This play is about a universal theme of love, sex and relationships. If you are looking for love,…read moreand who isn't, this show will speak to you. For me, everything in this comedic play seemed all too familiar..during the show, I kept on thinking, OMG I think I found bits and pieces of myself in all the women characters...which makes me ask myself, am I crazy?!!!??? I'm okay with that....because MEN ARE A**HOLES. One of the actors when introducing the play in the beginning and after the intermission was making the audience chant..he would say Women are crazy because men are........and the audience, made up of mostly females said......A**HOLES!!!!!!! It felt therapeutic to shout it out loud! I was really getting into it...I looked at my boyfriend and he was making a frowny face. ahahha. I was trying to get him to chant A**HOLES too but he wouldn't bite. He said men are a**holes because they used to be hunters...okay. ahahhahah. That's why I love him! He's my hunter, now go hunt! This play reminds me of the book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The play is set at one of the character's home, Nicole is throwing a soiree to celebrate meeting her internet fling for the first time, at this soiree!! Nicole invited her whole entire family to meet this internet fling that she herself never met...WHO DOES THIS??!! Nicole's family consisted of her sister and her BF, her brother and his GF, and her best friend and her BF. There was another couple that were supposed to be at the soiree but never showed up. All these couples are all having dysfunctional relationships, which makes for a funny play. This play takes a look into human nature, human relationships and human behavior. Sometimes the play may seem over the top, overly dramatic and highly passionate to get some laughter from us, but I recognize the characters all to well!! I know people just like the characters on stage in this play. I definitely have seen some of the characteristics even in myself. I felt ashamed at times...but laughed at myself! The comic timing in this show is awesome. My favorite couple is Hillary and George who never even made it to the soiree! I was laughing through the whole show. Even coming back from the intermission was fun! Be forewarned, women are going to be portrayed as psychotic beings, men are going to be portrayed as insensitive liars and we all need each other in unhealthy ways. But at the end it's all for laughs and for fun which this play definitely accomplishes...I would highly recommend this entertaining show for any adult who has been through dating or relationship angsts. This show is definitely Rated R for RAUNCHY! See it if you want to laugh your A** off! Last day of show is June 21, HURRY!
