This could be a life-changing experience for the uninitiated. Dr. Alex is simply a stunning MC. Her and her talented crew have put together a raucous event that is non-stop from beginning to end. Okay this show is definitely a MUST-SEE if you enjoy fun and different shows here in NYC. I had such a blast with my friends! Dr. Alex guides you to unlock your inner sexy in such an open way with a lot of laughter thrown in. A great way to let go and go a little wild. Some people made out with complete strangers and some people definitely didn't sleep alone that night lol. I did like that no one was pressured to do something they didn't want to do. "Consent is sexy" was a mantra throughout the show which I liked. The theater space is also really cute! Cozy and sexy at the same time. Having gone to one of Alex's parties/masquerade bar crawls, we took the chance to see her last performance before she goes on tour. Honestly, this show seems more suited to a cruise ship crowd than a more sophisticated New York audience. We sat in the spectator section but to me, it seems like at least 30% of the people she pulled on stage from the participants section were audience plants. The whole shtick had some occasional chuckles but a lot of it was pretty cringeworthy. The music is exceptionally 80s and there's this whole karaoke aspect to it that got pretty annoying after a while. At the end of the evening, I was happy to just close my high tab and move on rather than stay around and mingle with the audience. If you want to pay 100+ dollars to watch some awkward people embarrass themselves, I can think of plenty of places you can do that for free. read more

Based on the name, I had assumed this was a brothel. However, it was better: a comedy club! I loved the jokes that they told. My favorite was the joke about the chicken. I think there was a road involved? I don't remember, honestly. Anyway, before I left, I did uncover a conspiracy with the help of one of the comedians. Definitely not suitable for kids. So this show is wild. 1130 showing - what??? 11:30 at night, yes at night. I was greeted with free champagne. Yes please. I sit down - I was told repeatedly 2 drink minimum or order food. (I was told this at least 5 times, I get it). Dr. Alex rocks! Homegirl is the wo'man. I and my man were sitting at a table in the old married, and dead section but, I had 2 guy friends sitting in the singles section up by the stage. Both were called up to stage and one had to make out with not ONE but TWO girls and get his ass felt up by a gay dude. WHAT???? This show is hilarious, uncomfortable, gross, awesome, unbelievable all at the same time. Dr. Alex gives you tips of how never to sleep alone that make you laugh and jams out to some amazing songs in between. She is loud, hilarious, crass and open to whatever comes up. We all definitely agreed she should definitely be the next SNL star. She fully calls people up to the stage for some make out sessions, meet and greets and other hilarious antics. Be prepared!!! They throw an after party for people attending the show forcing you to get even more drunk and kick it/make out with the peops at your show. Thanks to Yelp, I was able to see this show. Being ELITE can pay off. I got a ticket for the **SINGLE** section (there is also a **VOYEUR** section) and when I arrived, they were handing out flutes of champagne. Good start. The usher escorted me to my seat and I shyly joined two other women already seated. The seats were plush and quite comfy and we had an excellent view of the stage. Awkward chit chat ensued, but as I helplessly sipped on a Negroni, the words seemed to tumble out of my mouth with more ease. They ladies are extremely nice and friendly, and turns out one is a singer/songwriter and the other a designer. And the best part of it all? They both live in Brooklyn. Clear sign it was going to be a great night. Now this is not your typical show. Please check all inhibitions at the door. You will be KISSING strangers, and practising Dr. Alex's dating tips on each other. Dr. Alex is truly amazing. She breaks down the truth on dating in a raw and comical manner. Here are some EXAMPLES of what I mean: NSA = Never Sleep Alone = No Strings Attached BFF = UCB (best friend forever = ultimate cock block) BDSM = Be direct, seem mysterious I really enjoyed how Dr. Alex was able to point out the absurdities in dating and how true everything rang. Never Sleep Alone was an interesting show to say the least. Think Ok Cupid live, Dr. Alex teaches singles how to "Never Sleep Alone". Singles are given champaign upon arrival into the show where nothing is taboo. Dr. Alex makes singles make out, touch each other and act out some inappropriate sexual encounters. Make sure to leave your inhbitions at the door, or if not you are guaranteed not to have a good time at this show. As a voyeur (an individual with a significant other at the show), the show was less interactive and not as exciting. Perhaps it was the fact that I didn't have to worry about Dr. Alex asking me to make-out with the dressed up super hero in front of me that made this show less exhilarating. This show was fun. I went with a significant other, which is perhaps defeating the purpose, but the show is first and foremost a comedy show. The 'doctor' had us both laughing pretty hard. It was a great start to a fun night out, though. Definitely gets you in the mood to party! Free (crappy) champagne at the door, not bad. The show lasted only about an hour, which for the price of tickets ($30) I thought was a bit short. There's also a two drink minimum- drinking definitely helps with your enjoyment of the show. The beers were $6 for a petite glass, and the cocktails were $14 for a pretty strong drink, so I'd say you're probably getting better value going with the cocktails, actually. This probably belongs in a review of Joe's Pub, but the space is pretty nice. Dress nicely, especially if you're hoping to catch someone's eye ;) read more

It's really not as crazy and risqué as everyone said & as I expected (maybe I'm very open minded lol)It was fairly entertaining but I wouldn't go again. I've been hearing about Never Sleep Alone for years and always thought it sounded too intense, but my friend had tickets, so I finally caved. Joe's Pub is kind of expensive, and they don't tell you about the two drink minimum beforehand. The staff will wait til you are busy watching the show to explain this, so be prepared for that. Drinks are also slow to arrive. I saw a lot of photos of people making out, and I was understandably nervous, but Dr. Alex was so funny and over the top, that I was able to relax and get into it. Her advice sounds ridiculous, but when you think about it, it's actually true. Like sleeping with a lot of people doesn't mean you have to treat them as disposable--they are "cherished collectibles that you only loan out to trusted friends." My heart stopped when Dr. Alex pulled me onstage for a game of Twister! I was really embarrassed and didn't know what to expect. But then I felt like I was on a roller coaster and people were kissing me and I was blinded by lights and it was awesome! I wish the show had been longer. It was barely an hour, but still a fun evening. There's also a "mingling" part of the show where you can walk around and talk to each other. I didn't meet anyone hot then, but thank God for the after party! Dr. Alex is a genius for coming up with that. Everyone was eager to test out her suggestions like "Be Direct Seem Mysterious" (BDSM ha ha). I found some guys I had noticed across the room in the theater and chatted them up. We all had masks from the show, so that was a good icebreaker. I danced with a really tall guy who could salsa. I ended up choosing to "sleep alone" that night, but I got enough numbers that I might not need to sleep alone for a while. read more

The show seems to be broken up into several phases with the purpose of priming everyone for an uninhibited and sexually charged night out. A bit of free champagne while you're waiting to be seated does wonders to get you in the mood, and the Pub's cocktails certainly keep you there. (It's a packed house, so you have to be diligent about snagging your waiter's attention.) I was sitting at a table near the stage and it was exciting to feel the audience loosening up, especially as Dr. Alex began to sing and circulate -- she has a keen eye for who to pick on, and while audience participation seems to be totally optional, you find yourself utterly invested in following along with whatever the good doctor suggests. Her dating/hookup philosophies range from absurd to shockingly insightful -- a lot of it has the ring of truth, but then in the end it's a comedy show, so caveat emptor. The show definitely succeeds as a cabaret, there is a live band onstage backing up the singer, which is a nice bonus. When the show's over, everyone moves on to the next phase -- the nearby After Party. I stayed out till very late, but again, it seems like it's sort of up to you to choose your own adventure at this point. I'd like to go back and see how the show changes -- a lot of the entertainment seems to depend on who gets selected to do what. I've been to a lot of live performances in my day. NSA is like nothing I've ever seen before. Dr Alex gives the audience a unique experience. The show is at Joe's Pub in the "cabaret" theater. They hand you free champagne as you walk to your seats. They also give you Eyes-Wide-Shut masks and ask you a few questions. You can get cocktails and/or food throughout the entire show. Also, you have to choose to sit in the singles section or the couples section. I sat in the couples section with my girl, but it was still a blast. The people in the singles section, however, had way more fun. They actually participated in the show, on stage. Dr Alex roams the singles section and brings lucky audience members up on stage to make out with each other, play Twister, and do other very sexy things. She gives speeches to the audience on her philosophy, and sings songs that reinforce her ideas as well. There's also a VIP after-party that Dr Alex hosts at a local bar in which she mingle with the crowd, and all the open-minded single people end up pairing up to go home and have fun. Dr Alex's motto is NEVER SLEEP ALONE. It makes sense. Life is short. Why go home alone when you can find someone else to go have an experience with? All it takes is some confidence!!! If you're single, or looking to bring your significant other on a date, this is definitely THE event to attend. Screw a play or a movie or a concert. Go have a session with Dr Alex. After having heard a lot about this show from friends who had gone and also me being single again, I decided it was my turn to try my luck at NSA. Short version: Dr. Alex did not let me down. This is not a show for the shy or the righteous, it is a time to be ridiculous and, preferably, a little intoxicated. As a straight, single woman, Dr. Alex will shove words of dating wisdom down your throat until you will be so indoctrinated that you'll be practically incapable of failing. You may also be told to kiss a stranger. The language comes straight out of her new book "Get laid or die trying", a hand book to teach its readers how to hook up, as quickly and efficient as possible and never (unless desired) sleep alone again. As the show is full of insanely funny truths and theories about dating, which Dr Alex delivers in between bursting out in Madonna covers and stripping, it becomes more and more clear that the words she is preaching are far from inaccurate. Based on the tension in the air that had filled the packed room in time for the after party, my guess is that the conversion rate on hook-ups is higher here than anywhere else in NYC on a Sat night and also that Dr Alex will have an affect on the audience sleeping habits for a significant future... For me, the late hour this show starts held me back for a while (hard to fit in to a sat night schedule) but I'm telling you, If you're a single man or woman on the hunt, do not miss Dr. Alex!! read more

Get used to the hard hitting Acronyms, they will pummel you with the force of a thousand sexual tigers for the duration of the evening. This is a cabaret act that is part Kiki n' Herb, part Suze Orman, and part the best-of-the-very-special episodes of Designing Women. That's right, this show may be tantamount to THE NIGHT THAT THE LIGHTS WHEN OUT IN GEORGIA! Batons, of the figurative variety, twirl as Dr Alex sweeps you into her wild and woolly world of hook-ups and nigh- life-know-how. Think Tom Cruise in Magnolia, except no loin cloth or Daddy Issues. The show is balls-to-the-walls, no-apologies aggressive and interactive fun. Using mash-ups of popular songs and elements of character driven stand up, Dr Alex Schiller acts as a kind of boundary breaking Dr Ruth with activities that include intimate hand holding and direct eye contact with strangers. I suggest getting comfy and loosening up with a cocktail, or 4- the looser and boozier you are, the more likely to meet that potential mate and steal the night like the make out bandit you are. And, here's the best part folks, and listen up: IT ACTUALLY WORKS. I met someone just by walking up to a table during one of the many interactive activities. Dr. Alex creates an aura of confidence and risk taking that will make you friskier and more charming than you might normally be. Sh*t, I may even take up sky diving, or scarf knitting. But to me, the show is too short and doesn't have enough audience interaction. When you first get there, there is a ton of anticipation and excitement, but half way through you kind of realize that not much is going to happen and then it's over. One of my girlfriends took me to the show the other weekend and we had such a great time! The show is definitely one of a kind and my friend and I both agree it was one of the funnest night out of live theatre we have had in a long time in New York- much better going to a Broadway show. The Joe's Pub atmosphere is trendy, although the food and drinks are on the expensive side and pretty small portions...but the quality of the show made up for that, not to mention the after party was awesome.
