I want to thank Comedy Village for a great evening on Nov. 11, 2025. My wife and I had a blast. Everything about the evening show (starting around 9 pm?) was excellent, but there is one thing I want to point out the most -- the extraordinary effort the comedy show host and all the comedians made that night. We made a spontaneous decision to attend the show because we heard someone walking around saying "Comedy show!" I'm not even sure it was someone from Comedy Village as we didn't get a good look at him in the crowded street, but we were looking for something to do next as we were wandering around aimlessly after watching a Broadway play ("Art" if you haven't seen it, is a must-see.) A comedy show sounded like a great idea as that's one of our favorite things to do when we're vacationing in other towns. Comedians can easily do a great job on nights when everything is going well -- the crowd is big, there's high-energy in the audience, etc. But you really learn about comedians' commitment to their craft when, for example, it's a federal holiday, and it's an unusually quiet night by NY standards, and it's cold and bitter outside. We were part of a tiny crowd that night and wouldn't have blamed the performers for phoning it in. But they didn't. The host was outstanding, and his energy set the stage and the tone for the night. He and the other comedians willed the audience to a great show. I was way more impressed by them under those circumstances than I would have been at a packed house on a more pleasant evening. Job well done! On top of that, the food was surprisingly good. Food typically isn't much to write home about at a comedy club, but everything we ordered came out hot and delicious. As a bit of a chicken wing snob myself, I also give two buffalo-sauce-drenched thumbs up to the wings. Last but not least, the service was excellent, too. Service at most restaurants today is, well, not great. But the service here walked that perfect balance between checking on us enough to make sure we had what we needed without being annoying. We're going to start heading up to New York much more often, and we'll absolutely return to Comedy Village! read more

A comedian I recently started following online was going to be doing a set at Comedy Village so I made it a point to visit. Located in Hell's Kitchen, Comedy Village is a two story comedy club that serves drinks and food. The show I went to was on the second floor. By my estimate, the second floor could easily fit 20-30 audience members. The stage is small (enough for 2-4 people to comfortably stand on at one time) and some tables are very close to the stage (like, right up against it). If that's not your speed, there are plenty of other seats arranged auditorium style to the back and side. The night I attended there were about five performers who each did a set that was around 5-10 minutes long. It kept things snappy and offered a variety of comedy perspectives. One waitress took drinks from each table and given how many people were there that night (about 20) it was cool to see how fast the drinks came out. I had an Old Fashioned that night and it was good. Not the best version of the drink I've ever had, but good enough to keep me from being thirsty during the show. This is a fun spot to hang out with friends or bring a date. It's casual, but nice and the staff who run it are very friendly. read more

The comics were slow at the beginning, but slowly starting to get better overtime. Overall, an average experience, no comic really stood out and made me spit my drink. read more

We I popped in here on a whim one night for a comedy show. We had not bought advance tickets but were told at the door the cash/card prices. After spending a few minutes downstairs getting our first round of drinks, we went upstairs to where the show was going to take place. We saw about 5 comedians for about $20 which was a great way to spend a couple hours. There is a two item minimum like most comedy clubs and the prices on the drinks were a bit high but the low price for the tickets made up for it. I really appreciated that the tables were normal sized so the people sitting in front and behind us were a good 2 feet away from us. I hate when Comedy Clubs pack people in like sardines because it takes away from the experience when someone's hair is in my drink or their jacket is in my lap. A couple of the comedians were just ok but others were SO FUNNY. I immediately looked up a couple of the really good ones and began following them on social media. read more

It's spacious inside which is a plus because other comedy clubs are tight. Food was decent. We got cheesecake and pepperoni pizza. What I got instead was a whirlwind of hilarity that felt like a mix between a stand-up show and group therapy where everyone's drunk uncle is the therapist. The comedians were brilliant, delivering punchlines so sharp they practically cut through my overpriced old fashion. One comic joked about relationships in a way that made me laugh so hard, I snorted beer out of my nose (note: it burns). The headliner? Absolute gold. By the time they wrapped up, I felt like I needed a cigarette and a confessional. That said, don't come here if you're easily offended or can't handle jokes about bodily functions, questionable life choices, or what happens when you mix tequila with regret. I heard things that would make my grandmother clutch her pearls--and then laugh anyway. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys unfiltered humor, dim lighting, and a lingering sense of "Did they really just say that?" Comedians were up and coming, good place to watch a show because it's so small but be warned, they allow drunk people that can be hackers and ruin the show and if sitting facing forward on little tables and you have long hair, be careful because the table behind you will have a candle and my hair caught on fire! Walking into this club was like finding NYC best kept secret. Little did I know we'd be laughing till our cheeks hurt by the end of the night! This classy new club is only 8 months old, so welcoming with candles on the table and such a warm friendly staff we were smiling even before the comedians came on stage. This venue is the perfect size, there were about 25 of us in the audience and we made friends there. Ok I haven't done this before so I was worried about being heckled and too much profanity or uncomfortable jokes. Thank goodness I didn't chicken out! It was great! I've loved stand-up since I was a teenager. Probably because it was easy to stash alcohol in a girlfriend's purse, and comedy clubs were the only spots in the city that would (knowingly) let kids under 18 through the door. And watching comics in person is so much better than on TV, even with the 95% chance that your table would be made fun of for their resemblance to Dawson's Creek. A decade later, I still love stand-up. It's hard to have a bad time, and 3 of the 4 acts I saw at Comedy Village were actually good. It definitely isn't my favorite club in the city; the drinks were watered down, and the food was barely edible...but I laughed, and laughing is fun. The only real issue we had here was with the hostess outside. In the middle of us trying to buy tickets, she received a call on her cell and just walked away for ten minutes, without even an, "Excuse me while I take this personal call and leave you standing here like idiots." From the sound of it, she didn't get the role she had recently auditioned for. It's too bad, because I was pulling for her. read more

Right on McDougall St. and practically in the middle of everything going on, Comedy Village does what several of its competitors do in the area--- provide a few laughs and alcoholic beverages. We've been to several of these places in the immediate area and this one is not much different. Pluses: They had a table big enough for our group of seven. Sound system was adequate. Room was small enough to feel like part of the show. Minuses: The front part of the lounge/bar was very loud and somewhat distracting. The place is two or three bricks/sheets of sheetrock from being condemned (lol). Check in and get two for twenty dollar seating.... save ten dollars!!!! This is a copy cat from Comedy Cellar. The billboard looks almost similar. It is around the corner so several people got mixed up and stood inline at the wrong place. It does not have different performers but just one. The place is small and not too many guests. To get to the club, expect to get loss then after asking several businesses, It's inside the bar?? Wth! Walk in and pass the bar to the pool area and Look for the curtain. Expect to be kicked out after you find the place because you don't have the seat assigned. Who is going to assign the seat? Used to be the Boston Comedy Club, now called Comedy Village, still just as hit-and-miss for comedy. They rotate the same comics through all the time, so it's really not worth going more than once or twice a year, or you'll be hearing the same jokes. The space is in a loft, poorly laid out, and somehow inexplicably depressing. The upside is that it's cheap, and you can almost always get in just by turning up a few minutes before showtime, even on a weekend. Thus, Comedy Village should be your back-up plan, in case you get turned away from Comedy Cellar just around the corner. read more

I like Comedy Village. I've been here a few times, and have enjoyed it every time. The comics are generally pretty much unknown but all very good, with the occasional dud here and there but overall pretty damn funny. There is plenty of very offcolor humor so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing you really shouldn't come here, or any other comedy show for that matter. In fact if you can't take a joke then you should probably just die of cancer. Heh, that's my attempt at being a comedian btw, I don't really want for you die of cancer. Maybe head trauma... Anyway, the show costs $10 a person and there's a 2 drink minimum so you'll probably drop upwards of $50 for 2 people. Also, you can't get food here but they don't mind if you bring some from outside. So run next door to Crepe-to-Go or Kati Roll, get some grub, and enjoy the show. read more

This place used to be called Boston Comedy Club. I came here during my college years because College students did not need a cover charge. And you just needed to get 2 drinks minimum. Of course being a broke college student and loving comedy I would go here. They weren't too bad before but eventually their comics got worse and they were begging people to go watch the show. I returned a few years after and found it to be under new ownership now called "Comedy Village". They were still begging for people to go in, but I figured why not give it a chance since it's new ownership. Oh man... for 3 straight comics, nobody laughed !!! The comics were bombing up there and they were just yelling at the audience for being dead. Never again I will not return, Alcohol couldnt even make this place enjoyable. read more

Grisley Pear is great. Comedians are funny. Food and beverages are very good and reasonably priced. Very cosy and friendly atmosphere. You get to see a large number of comedians who are down to earth and eager to speak with you after the show. As an added incentive, there is Karoke after the last show. Went to check out the Friday night show...there were some hits and misses with the acts, but for the most part it was a pretty hilarious and enjoyable free show. The atmosphere is pretty laid back and funky, definitely could get comfortable and relax and have a drink. One suggestion would be to get there early, because it is a small space and seats are limited. Definitely will return!!! read more

Went there Saturday night. The place doesn't look like much at first but I had a great time! The first two comedians were great, than Judah Friedlander showed up and had us rolling laughing. A sticky Basement under a great Bar/ Restaurant. Doesn't that just scream MacDougal Street? So Comedy Village actually has 2 spots. One at this location and another one around the corner and next to the Fat Black Pussy Cat. The girls and I went to get tickets on Saturday night at the 2nd location and were told that the 4 shows for the night were sold out. So we were directed to the 1st location and we put our names on the "list". Since its right on McDougall St. and practically in the middle of everything going on, we went to go get a quick coffee/ drink at a nonsensical bar and waited. We were the last 3 ladies let in. The line up was pretty good (except for the 2nd comic........ that lady was DEPRESSING...... not funny at all) HIGHLIGHT of the night: CHRIS ROCK SHOWED UP!!!!! Like actual movie star, stand up comic, Saturday Night Live cast member Chris Rock. It was awesome and reminds me why I'm always so happy to live in NYC. You never know who might show up at a place you are in or who might be publicly urinating next to you (eh hmm......Russell Brand) All in all a great night. Food: I was disappointed :( Not that these places are supposed to have the best cuisine but COME ON...... The hummus was sufficient (and quiet a lot of food ) but the pita bread was BURNT! In a word, Fabulous. All of the comics were great. It's a smaller more intimate room than some of the larger clubs and it enabled the comics to better connect with the audience. I had previously heard a couple of them on the radio and that's what got me to come in but even the guys that were new to me had me laughing my ass off. The show was terrible! We came on a Friday night and the comedians were beyond bad. There were only two who were moderately decent out of 8 comedians. The venue is in the back of some dive bar. You can't even here the comics properly with the music blasting from the bar in front. The place looks terrible. I bought tickets online for 15 bucks. What a mistake! When I called I was told that's the best way. I was lied to. We got there and were the only people who had made reservations. There are brokers on the street begging people to come in. I later found out I could have bought tics for 5 bucks on the street, which would still not have been worth it. Please save your time and money and avoid this place.
