Came to see Mario's Magic Show with the kids over the weekend. Absolutely loved it and everyone had an amazing time. The theatre is nice and intimate with good views all around. We hired the space downstairs for a get together afterwards and would highly recommend visiting this space.

Amazing Theatre and the staff is professional. A nice intimate theatre with a full kitchen, private green room, communal green room space, half and full bathrooms, and a full size basement bar with stage. Great for allowing performers to fully interact with the audience, and feel the vivacious energy from its audience, while still staying within the fourth wall.

The Soho Playhouse is a small off Broadway Theatre with their own bar/lounge on the basement. Really cute theatre. A little run down, but the friendly and professional staff makes up for it. Tonight I saw "The Day I Became Black". One bi-racial man's heart-breaking journey of having to pick one race to identify as. What an eye-opening experience. Bill Posley was fantastic. He has the incredible gift of story-telling which makes you hang onto his every word. At times hilarious; at times heart-breaking; All the while, opening up your awareness of what it's like living as a bi-racial person. There is so much depth to his message. He will make you think about things you never thought about. Go see it!! Note to Trevor Noah: Have this incredibly talented young man on your show!!

I've only been to the Huron Club space located in the basement. But if you're upstairs and need to use the restroom, we'd be jostling around each other to get to them. Since I'm already on the restrooms let me start there. Three tiny lavatories (I guess that's what you call a toilet in its own room) and a cramped sink area. There's extra toilet paper in the cabinet under the sink. Don't ask. The stairs are steep and not at all ADA friendly, which is why I felt a strong compulsion to carry one very frail-looking elderly lady up the stairs. The Huron Club looks kinda shoddy to be honest. But given that it used to be a speakeasy for the Tammany Hall crowd, the scuffed up bar and exposed vents in the low-hung ceiling are "vintage"... yeah, that'll work. But despite its looks and history, the audio/visuals and the lighting are very good. It instantly becomes intimate and cozy. There's a full-service working bar along most of the right side. Banquette seating along the left. The rest is a flexible combination of cafe tables and chairs. The theater staff are so on top of things, they will balance the table legs without having to be asked. The staff was excellent. At the end of the current show, they open the bar for service. You can order pretty much anything you'd find at an average bar. My friend and I got a little too comfortable with that and forgot that this isn't an actual bar and they would like to go home. But they never made us feel intrusive or rushed. Thanks guys! As far as this theater goes, beauty fades but character remains. And this place is steeped in character.

Welcome!

This happened before the curfew, I promise. No more gathering in NYC after this show. This event happened weeks ago. My friend invited me to see Jay Rayner a one-man show. Although I didn't know who the guy is, I said yes to my friend's invitation. It turned out he's a good critic. Perfect! Jay Rayner's from England, so he has an English accent and he used a lot of English jokes that I didn't get or understand 100%, but I enjoyed it. Anyway, Soho Playhouse is a small event venue that could accommodate maybe 50-100 audience. Before the start of the show, the organizer/host asked to check the bar downstairs. We did and we got some nice colorful drinks. Nice bartender by the way. When it was time to start the show they asked everyone to go upstairs. The show was interesting, very different. He talked about what would be his last meals on Earth, with a touch of jokes. He mentioned about some restaurants in England, and since many people from the audience came from England, they understood it and knew some of the mentioned restaurants. Unfortunately for me I just listened and looked at the images on the slide shows. Jay's show includes his presentations about his last meals, his experiences with restaurants, his meal guessing game, and Q&A with the audience. Soho Playhouse is a perfect venue for this type of event, not too small nor big audience.

+ Great show, staff are friendly and professional, offered temporary luggage storage for the duration of the show + easy location - Bathroom, as mentioned by previous reviews - Theatre temperature too high

The electric recliners with built-in trays are seriously comfortable, and the theater is consistently clean and far less chaotic than most Manhattan spots. The screen and sound pack a punch, and the location--tucked into a newly energized corner of Battery Park City--makes it easy to pair your movie with a great meal or drink nearby. That said, finding the place is its own mini-quest. You have to weave through the Conrad Hotel and ride what feels like a pilgrimage of escalators (especially when the elevators are down... which is often). Overall, a solid movie night once you actually get there.

The theater has always been a good time with friendly staff and nice looking theaters but union square and Times Square regular are closer and more regular options for me. I look forward to actually coming back here soon though, hopefully an early 2026 visit once the calendar does change this time.

The staff came across as nonchalant and not very engaged, which set the tone right away. The food didn't help either--the spicy tuna was completely flavorless, not crispy and the drinks were underwhelming. We also weren't told ahead of time that you have to pick up your food and drinks yourself, which was surprising since we're used to full service at your seat. On the positive side, the popcorn and truffle fries were decent, but everything else fell short. The seats were just okay--not particularly comfortable. The bathroom situation was also frustrating--it's located upstairs near the restaurant and wasn't well maintained. There were no paper towels, and overall cleanliness was lacking. Overall, this felt like a subpar experience, and I won't be returning. My cousin mentioned the New Jersey location is much better, so maybe it's just this one--but based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it.

Now that Spring has spring, and we have this up and down weather, I took a chance last minute on Friday night about 3:25 PM. Scored a premium ticket for 5pm movie. The showtimes seem to be more typical of after 7 PM. most of the movies that they're showing are around like 930 and unfortunately that's a timeframe that just doesn't fit for me. but the movies that they're showing are pretty decent I'm probably gonna try to check out again if they have a 7 o'clock show for a really good movie. So for $36 I got the premium chair, small popcorn that it comes with and they give you headphones to listen to the movie on. interestingly enough people sitting to the left of me in a cheaper chair and people sitting behind me somehow were carrying on conversations throughout the movie. I didn't think that was great etiquette but OK. the weather was sunny, but there definitely was a cool breeze that hit every once in a while. I would imagine as the sun went down it gets colder. they do offer blankets for sale and they looked super cozy, but I don't know how much they cost.

The elegant theater, with its distinctive Arte Moderne style became a première cinema venue for the best films from around the world. Over time many hits such as: Zefirelli's 'Romeo and Juliet' 1968 (Italy), 'A Room With a View' 1985 by James Ivory (UK) , et le film 'Belle de Jour' 1967 (France) directed by Luis Buñuel, were introduced to the United States with an introductory theatrical run at our beloved Paris. (Click on my Substack for more Baumbach thoughts including my brief interaction with the auteur, as awkward as many of his finest scenes). You may have heard about the successful company that helped destroy movie theaters by pivoting to "content" meant to promote purchases of high-end TVs and nice couches. (Related, I went to Best Buy and didn't recognize anything. Is that a thermostat? A stereo? A smart garden hose?) This company was so successful, that after Knives Out was heralded as single-handedly reviving non-Marvel film, its sequel was withheld from the theaters it allegedly saved. (BTW, if you were planning to tell me to watch the amazing 53-part Quibi streaming series about The Golden Age Of Hollywood, don't bother). But after Netflix helped destroy theaters, it did a nice thing. It's one of those ironic moments like the purse-snatcher scene in Jay Kelly. It signed a lease that helped the Paris avoid the fate of the Ziegfeld and a million others, in a world where the AMC theaters that destroyed all the independents have been suffering themselves. So, while it was vile that Netflix thought Roma should be seen on TVs, it was nice of them to show it at the Paris, especially for the unusually vibrant sound. I saw Train Dreams Saturday. I suppose, like the kid in Squid and The Whale, I am a philistine. I wish I could praise its morose existentialism but I'm not quite on board. However, I did appreciate the majesty of the northwestern fires and falling trees in this venue. There was no assigned seating; not sure if this is just temporary, but if they keep that policy I might be obliged to overlook Netflix's evil and upgrade to 5 stars.

This theater was bigger than other ones I have been to in the city. The highlight was definitely the top floor. They had a whole RPX area with bright lights and large projection screens. This was a cool place to hang out. I ended up seeing a movie in RPX. It is usually close to $40 for a ticket with everything included. This is by far the biggest issue here and it should have been addressed years ago and I doubt it will be soon -They still show the same extremely annoying metal band shirt advertisement with flashing lights that is annoying every single time I go here -The staff here aren't the nicest but it's a movie theater so I can deal with it The Good: -If you're looking for independent films and foreign films, this is one of if not the best theater to go to -The occasional Q&A I'm able to go to such as most recently for Eephus; which was an excellent existential baseball movie; and the Ukrainian documentary Porcelain War last year are always entertaining and interesting and they don't cost more so I would recommend them -If you're looking to see some form films to fill out your Letterboxd Oscar list or perhaps the shorts or something, they show virtually all of them here -They have some fun midnight screenings and other things such as the obligatory The Room and Rocky Horror Picture Show of course There's a few other theaters that I like going to more but there's occasionally films that you really can't find anywhere else.
