Amazing hidden Jem theater! I went to see Padre Pio on Friday night. Small room but classic. A little thing I wish they have better blind to cover the door. People are walk in and out during the movie and I was interrupted by them. The theater is in basement of Roxy hotel and more than just cinema, I entertain by the interesting cozy vibe of all bars and decoration. I don't really hang out in the area so much, now I will probably be checking out Tribeca more.

Hidden gem of a theater in the basement of the Roxy hotel. It takes you to another time both with the decor and the movies they play. A fun evening will be going to the movies here and then to the jazz club/bar above.

The AMC and Regal are nice, but sometimes an independent movie theatre brings charm to the experience that a chain can't. Perks of going to the Roxy for a movie are enjoying the live music in the lobby beforehand, no movie trailers, and the opportunity to watch movies on film. In exchange for the vintage theatre atmosphere your seats don't recline and aren't as spacious or plush as an AMC seat. Independent theatre are more selective about the films they show and usually screen independent films instead of blockbusters. All things considered I think the small sacrifices are worth it to enjoy the experience and I will be coming back! The Roxy Theatre also holds events where they interview filmmakers and is available to rent out for private screenings. For the popcorn fiends, Popcorn is $7 for a small and $10 for a large.

We had plans to attend the cinema and first enjoyed the beautiful bar and had a couple of drinks. Jazz band trio playing in the large open area adjacent to the bar. Really unique atmosphere. Theater was great. Little cold for the winter time lacked heat and I usually don't get too cold at places like this. Food selection at the theater was good except no butter on the popcorn which at the end of the day is probably a good thing but I was disappointed. Bathrooms for the theater were very very nice; a pleasure to use.

This is an old school movie theater type feel from this place. This theater has been around for a few years but the Roxy is more about their hotel business, this is more of a side project. This theater officially takes moviepass and this has increased its popularity over the past year. I actually have joined the year long membership and have had great interactions with the staff so far. I legitimately have had a great time coming here so far. I have seen a movie or five here so far, such as Skate Kitchen, Night Moves, Never Goin Back, I am not a Witch Doctor, and A Nightmare on Elm Street (original), it was a cool nostalgia screening. So far have enjoyed my time here coming to this area to see movies. The year looks like it is on a good pace and I will keep getting popcorn here and buying a beer to enjoy a movie and get the most out of this movie membership.

Came here to catch a screening of a film my friends are in along with a Director talk and Q& A. Beautiful little cinema house tucked away on the lower level of the beautiful Rocky Hotel in TriBeCa. They have an adorable little concession stand. Great lounge area right before entering the theater. They also have a bar above the lounge. I will return to hangout at the bar/restaurant area very soon.

Cool little theater that I imagine doesn't make money, or at least not much, but it's a nice perk of being a hotel guest. They show small-release movies, sometimes ones that aren't showing anywhere else in New York. They're one of a few theaters that do e-ticketing with MoviePass, which is nice, although they don't do assigned seating. The seats are the red plush variety, and low, but the springs were still working and there was actually a lot of leg room. The fabric is a little scratchy. I thought he sound was a bit loud, could have been the movie. The picture quality is fine, no complaints. The front row is several years back from the screen, which isn't huge, so no one will be too close, but the back rows are pretty far back. Still, no one will strain their neck looking up. They sell typical movie snacks and popcorn, although I'm not sure how fresh it is. There's also a great coffee place in the hotel lobby and one can obviously bring a coffee into the theater. If they are showing something I want to see, I wouldn't hesitate to come back.

The electric recliners with built-in trays are seriously comfortable, and the theater is consistently clean and far less chaotic than most Manhattan spots. The screen and sound pack a punch, and the location--tucked into a newly energized corner of Battery Park City--makes it easy to pair your movie with a great meal or drink nearby. That said, finding the place is its own mini-quest. You have to weave through the Conrad Hotel and ride what feels like a pilgrimage of escalators (especially when the elevators are down... which is often). Now that Spring has spring, and we have this up and down weather, I took a chance last minute on Friday night about 3:25 PM. Scored a premium ticket for 5pm movie. The showtimes seem to be more typical of after 7 PM. most of the movies that they're showing are around like 930 and unfortunately that's a timeframe that just doesn't fit for me. but the movies that they're showing are pretty decent I'm probably gonna try to check out again if they have a 7 o'clock show for a really good movie. So for $36 I got the premium chair, small popcorn that it comes with and they give you headphones to listen to the movie on. interestingly enough people sitting to the left of me in a cheaper chair and people sitting behind me somehow were carrying on conversations throughout the movie. I didn't think that was great etiquette but OK. the weather was sunny, but there definitely was a cool breeze that hit every once in a while. I would imagine as the sun went down it gets colder. they do offer blankets for sale and they looked super cozy, but I don't know how much they cost.

(Click on my Substack for more Baumbach thoughts including my brief interaction with the auteur, as awkward as many of his finest scenes). You may have heard about the successful company that helped destroy movie theaters by pivoting to "content" meant to promote purchases of high-end TVs and nice couches. (Related, I went to Best Buy and didn't recognize anything. Is that a thermostat? A stereo? A smart garden hose?) This company was so successful, that after Knives Out was heralded as single-handedly reviving non-Marvel film, its sequel was withheld from the theaters it allegedly saved. (BTW, if you were planning to tell me to watch the amazing 53-part Quibi streaming series about The Golden Age Of Hollywood, don't bother). But after Netflix helped destroy theaters, it did a nice thing. It's one of those ironic moments like the purse-snatcher scene in Jay Kelly. It signed a lease that helped the Paris avoid the fate of the Ziegfeld and a million others, in a world where the AMC theaters that destroyed all the independents have been suffering themselves. So, while it was vile that Netflix thought Roma should be seen on TVs, it was nice of them to show it at the Paris, especially for the unusually vibrant sound. I saw Train Dreams Saturday. I suppose, like the kid in Squid and The Whale, I am a philistine. I wish I could praise its morose existentialism but I'm not quite on board. However, I did appreciate the majesty of the northwestern fires and falling trees in this venue. There was no assigned seating; not sure if this is just temporary, but if they keep that policy I might be obliged to overlook Netflix's evil and upgrade to 5 stars.
