Had lunch there yesterday: service was wonderful however the tacos & chicken salad almost not edible. Disappointed

Our first time here and it started off great. Our server took our drink order and my gin and tonic was nice and on the strong side, the way I like it. Hubby got beer. Our food arrived in a timely manner. I enjoyed my blackened mahi tacos, though they didn't really taste blackened, and the avocado slaw didn't really come with avocados. Still it was tasty with some mangoes giving it a bit of a sweet taste. Loved the crispy wontons that were on the side! Hubby ordered the nachos with Korean beef. This plate was huge and also had those crispy wontons rather than tortillas. He was extremely stuffed and could've used another beer to wash it down, however, this is where our experience went totally downhill. Our server never came back after dropping off our food. Ugh. After watching her sit in back and never coming back to us, we got bartender to get her to come back to get check as we had other places to go. Realizing the error of her ways, our server apologized and said our entire meal was on her. While it shouldn't have happened, i did appreciate her picking up our tab and apologizing. Chalk it up to a bad day for her, life sometimes gets in way, and we all make mistakes. Hoping this was a one off experience, so still sticking with 4 stars. read more

I hate when places now serve deconstructed chicken. I ordered a Cobb salad and it was not great, especially for almost $17.00. I love Cobbs but this one was terrible, hardly any lettuce or real tomatoes and bacon. The clam chowder was delicious but cold. I am a local and I ate at Drum and Quill for the first time in a long time tonight. I will start with the positives. The atmosphere is nice, the service was pretty good, and we really enjoyed the live music. Now for the bad. I was excited to order the black and blue cheese burger for $18. When it came out, I was shocked. It looked as exciting as a burger from Cookout but Cookouts burger tastes better! This was the saddest $18 burger that I could imagine. I didn't complain and I politely asked for some lettuce, hoping that lettuce would add some color and make it look less depressing. The lettuce never came. Very disappointing! I used to adore this place. Food used to be really good and service used to be really good. This place has gone completely downhill. The owner needs to step in and take charge if you really want to save this place. I have seen more angry customers in one day at this place than I've ever seen in my life time. And I've worked service industry jobs. Please, help this place. The only bartender should not also be the only manager. Kitchen needs improvement if you want to be able to help this many customers at once. And at the very least your servers need to greet every table that gets sat. Hostess needs to be telling people when they've been sat. Communication and organization goes a long way. read more

We brought our out of town guests to the Drum and Quill for dinner telling them that everything was good. I was wrong. My fish with the fish and chips tasted like it had been soaked in bleach water. Not good. The best thing about it was the crust. My French onion soup arrived with a lot of it missing. It was just a cup but looked like it had spilled coming out of the oven. Just 3-4 bites of soup, hardly any cheese and zero flavor. What broth there was, was soaked in a big old fat crouton. My husband's cup was much fuller. Our friend's chicken salad sandwich had judge hunks of chicken you had to bite in half, not chopped up. It used to be good every time we went but seems to have gone downhill in the last year or so. I hope they can get up to speed because we like the restaurant. There were other things but that's enough for now. read more

Popped in for a late dinner as it was listed as having several vegetarian options. The vegetarian options were limited but the FGT (Fried Green Tomato) Tacos were delicious! The staff was SO friendly! We had our two dogs with us so we sat at one of their outdoor high tops and they moved the planters so they had more room to move around and brought them out a water bowl. read more

Met a few friends for lunch. Seating inside and out both very comfortable. There is also a bar with seating. The service was very good. Our waiter was pleasant and efficient . The Reuben, Monte Cristo and tacos were very good and generous with portions. We enjoyed a very pleasant lunch and we will be back. read more

I really don't want to write this review but my experience was so bad that I must. I really love the concept of Drum and Quill. It has a great local pub fill in quaint downtown Pinehurst. I actually enjoyed the Salmon I got. But the service was atrocious. The staff was loud and watching videos together instead of working. The specific server had a very aloof vibe, which I would not have worried about except for what happened later. I was billed an add-on charge for a side with my salmon. However, the menu mentioned no upcharge. The server just kept saying that there was a charge. When I asked her to show it to me on the menu, she said that the menus had not been updated. I told her that I wasn't going to pay for it since it wasn't on the menu. She went to get the manager. 10 minutes later she walks by our table, drops off a new bill and takes our old one without a word, much less an apology. I hate it, but their attitude has turned me away for good. read more

Great little spot! Food was worth the 5 stars alone. French onion soup was perfect and came with crackers! I also ordered the roast beef and Brie sandwich with fries which had a very tastefully paired sauce added. Blue moon on draft from the bartender came very quickly. Bar seating was a little close and the chairs seemed light and not very sturdy so don't lean back! Other than that I highly recommend. Chicken fingers are the best. We go for a golf trip every year and we always make sure we have lunch here every year.

I got a Reuben, which ended up not being what I anticipated, but BETTER. I think some places call it a Rachel (Turkey instead of corn beef) although it was not what I ordered, it was SO good, and glad I ended up with it. My husband got a burger, and he didn't love it but he liked mine. The service was fast, granted we were there early on a Monday. Nice people, cute atmosphere, with heaters on the outside patio! I am an Elite Yelp member in Orlando, FL for the past 5 years and have done hundreds of Yelp reviews. I love to compliment restaurants and give lots of 4 and 5 star ratings. I rarely give 1 - 2 stars. I can say without question this was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life. In fact, I would venture that most homeless shelters would score better. Even with the meal being comped... not the drinks, I felt like I way overpaid. The only reason to give 1 star instead of zero, is that the 4 of us sat outside and enjoyed the great weather and conversation. To begin with, their was a fight in the alleyway outside where we were seated as one of the employees quit and walked off. Our waitress really struggled to take our order and came back several times to question what she had written down. She brought out sweet tea for my wife instead of unsweet, which is fine, but never came back to refill the tea or our waters. We never received silverware or napkins and one person at our table grabbed a bunch of paper towels in the bathroom to bring out. We were told after getting our drinks plus an additional 15 min, from a young person who might have been a junior manager, that they only had one person in the kitchen now and our orders would be another 15-20 min. That is when they comped the food. Everything sounded great on the menu, but when the Roast Beef and Brie Sandwiches came out for 2 of us, there was no Brie. What? I went inside to question it and was told they didn't have any Brie. Seriously? You couldn't have told us to order something else 45 min earlier? Then she asked if I wanted to the waitress to bring out a couple of slices of swiss cheese? We asked them to take it back, put the cheese on and press it to warm it up. It came back 10 min later with cold swiss cheese laid on the now cold roast beef. They didn't have the wantons for the Pulled Pork nachos so chips were substituted. My Reuben was by far the worst I have ever had. It was like the inmates were running the asylum. This place is posing as a restaurant and should be shut down as an embarrassment to the town of Pinehurst. It really couldn't have been any worse. I felt bad for the server and left her a tip, but it was out of pity. read more

I wasn't crazy about the high top tables with a half shelf to put your feet. If you're like me you may choose to sit at the low tables on the left when you enter. These were occupied when we arrived and the parties remained drinking long after we went home. Our server was greAt, patient and efficient. I had a Bloody Mary. It was good. Nothing amazing. We ordered the pimento cheese platter for a starter. I did not like the taste of the pimento cheese. It tasted watery and flavorless. It didn't even taste cheesy. The other thing I did not like about this platter was the wonton crisps. I would have preferred bread, crackers, just about any carb except these wontons. I did love the cut up vegetables that came with the platter but that's it. I did enjoy my shrimp tacos, but were perplexed that they came flat on a plate. Who does that? Where was the metal holder? Once again the side was wontons. Do you get them at a discount? Do you think they are trendy? They are neither, just nasty. I ordered a side of fries which hubby and I split and I thought since neither of us got the wontons, the waitress said I'd get an additional charge for the fries, but I wound up paying $5+ for an order of fries but no credit for the two sides of wontons we didn't get. I've been here on several occasions usually sit at the bar and service was OK. Food was basic pub grub. my Cuban sandwich today was less than mediocre. Very dry . Additionally, they got our orders totally wrong for one of the people in my party . Today was a terrible experience. Our waiter dropped off our drinks and didn't return. We had to wave down the bartender to take our order. but the most annoying thing of all was we could hear the kitchen staff talking and laughing very loudly. It was very annoying as we could hear everything they were talking about. For example, the police were following me all the way home. someone else in the kitchen staff was saying my lawyer wouldn't let the police into the house etc.... It was ridiculous. The people in my party had to talk loudly to talk over the kitchen staff. On the way out I mentioned this to the bartender, and she didn't seem to really care. It's sad. While the bartenders have always been nice. There seems to be inconsistency in the making of drinks and food. The last time we were in here my husband had two old fashioned's. The first one was a good standard drink. The second, was not mixed well and had sugar sludge on the bottom. We ordered an appetizer to share and felt that what was described was not what we got. This was our third time eating here. Drum and Quill is located in a great spot, right in the Pinehurst square and next to beautiful shops. During the winter it's set in against a wonderful holiday backdrop. We ordered our usual appetizer of Fried Green Tomatoes, which was delicious. It's perfectly paired with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes. It goes great with the balsamic vinegar it comes with. I've had fried green tomatoes from many places but these have always been the best and what I use to compare others against. People who rate this place good must mostly eat at fast food restaurants. The food is mediocre at best and way overpriced. Most sandwiches are about 20 bucks and not worth half that. When you're the only place on the main Street in Pinehurst you can charge and serve what you want unfortunately and get away with it. We got the Korean barbecue nachos, a burger, and fish/chips for food but it was subpar. The positive notes are that the wonton chips were innovative and the fish was crispy but all the food lacked flavor.
