Most likely one of the most awesome joints in ROC with freakin' spectacular wings, definitely recommend

One of my nearby fave dive bars. Pitchers flowing with light beers, wings and tots galore, Dr.'s Inn is one of those top spots for a brewski post-kickball/softball/long day.The wings and bar food (read: tator tots, pizza logs, mozz sticks) are an indulgent treat. Their wings are actually pretty awesome -- sauces like buffalo, BBQ, teriyaki, and garlic parm -- cheap too 10 wings for ~$7. Honestly I don't think anything in a basket here exceeds $7. It serves its purpose for the "I need a beer somewhere within 2 feet of my current location" moments. Sometimes the bartenders cop an attitude, but usually that's just the girls. The guys are pretty cool as is the door guy, he'll chat you up. They have darts and pool, tons of tvs showing all sorts of sports -- they even had tennis on, which was pretty cool to watch at 12am on a Weds. Sundays they have free darts and pool, and 45 cent wings. Solid deal to rep Sunday drinking with friends -- $2.75 drafts. Plus, they usually have a solid local craft beer or two on tap of you don't want Labatt's... But when in Rome, right? Drink among the regulars.

Wings! Dr's sauce on the left, maple rub on the right

This is a great hole in the wall to have a chill night when you don't want to get dressed up to go to the other end of east avenue. The Dr's Inn is laid back and has really friendly bartenders along with food/drink specials every day of the week. I was told their wings were the "house specialty" so I tried 2 different kinds - half tossed in dr's sauce and half in a salty maple dry rub. The wings were cooked perfectly, super crispy and fresh. Loved the sauce, but the rub was a little TOO salty and not the favorite of the night. The only other complaint is that the wings were really small and didn't have a ton of meat on them. Overall I had a good experience especially because it was unseasonably warm and we got to hang out on the patio area for a bit.

The draft selection is nothing to write home about, unless you're writing home to say, "Hey, ma, they have the usual draft selections that I've seen at every bar and nothing local." Yuengling. Shock top. Sam Adams. Pay by credit card and you'll get an "oh!", as if the plastic goodies-creators were just invented. (You won't learn until later about their $10 minimum). Then some regulars will come in and start arguing about whether we actually declared war in Afghanistan, when the country exactly will go down the tubes (or whether it already has), why no president has cared about the Korean "war," or the fact that this country needs to "stop letting in so many Spanish [sic]." The Afghanistan/declared war argument will devolve into angry yelling. You sit quietly and keep to yourself the fact that the last time the United States declared war was in 1942, against the government of Romania. Quick, finish the beer and get out of here! But it takes like 10 minutes for the server to figure out how to run/close out your credit card. You say, "Just charge me the $10, please," but to her this apparently means give you cash out of the register? Run away!

I hadn't been back since 2016ish and forgot some of the magical elements of the Bug Jar. Living room on the ceiling, the flying bug, great staff, electric environment, and super welcoming to everyone, to name a few. My (large, strong) vodka soda was $7 and I sipped while leaning against the wall in the "venue side" of the space. The room itself is truly so small and a 'lil awkward in terms of where to stand, etc. I wasn't there on a particularly crowded evening but I imagine, as other reviewers have said, it doesn't hurt to arrive early if it is a band you truly care about. This venue does so much to support local musicians and the whole scene in Rochester. Getting out and supporting the local scene is more critical now than it has been, and I am sad I had done such a terrible job practicing what I preach post-pandemic. Get ye to a Bug Jar show if it has been a minute and enjoy a great night with great stories!
