So we went to the Doctor's Inn and if you're into dive bars, well, you've found your spot. It's got that classic local hangout vibe, the regulars at the bar, an outdoor area to chill, darts, pool, and even a change machine for it. You can even place bets with OTB (off-track betting). We first stopped in just to check it out, and back then they had the menu up on a chalkboard--kinda loved that. But this time, that was gone and we got a menu from the bar. I was hoping for a draft beer, but it wasn't clear if the taps were working, so I went with a few bottles of Labatt's Blue instead. My husband kept it simple with some Diet Cokes (or maybe Pepsi--wasn't totally sure). There was only one bartender holding it down. She took our order, brought out our drinks at the bar, and served up the food. She's a rockstar! That said, since she was solo, finished plates and baskets just kind of piled up at one table. She let us know someone else was coming in at 7 p.m.--it was only 4 p.m. when we were there, so she was clearly in for a long shift. Food-wise, the mozzarella sticks hit the spot, cheeses and a nice breading in them and came with marinara. The wings? Fried hard (not breaded), with medium buffalo sauce. Honestly, they weren't all that saucy and seemed a little overcooked. Next time I'd ask for extra sauce and for them not to overdo it. Not terrible, just not the best I've had. A fun little quirk: if you open a tab, they stash your card in an old-school Rolodex. Just give them your name when you want to close out. Yes you get your card back. Horrible service. The Asian bartender Kiki is just nasty to everyone and the manager doesn't seem to think theres a problem with it. Their kitchen is absolutely disgusting so if you order food be prepared to get sick. The whole building is a cesspool, the basement floods constantly cauing mold and all sorts of other health issues. They don't care about keeping customers happy, they would rather you spend money elsewhere so save your time and energy. It's a known coke bar also. read more

I have been to the Dr's inn a few times and this time was a nightmare because of none bartender. He was acting like the dictator of the bar and it was kind of ridiculous. Usually I like to come here to play pool and get some good wings. But this past Saturday 02/18/2023 I ordered one beer which was a K2 raspberry sour, 1/2lb of wings (garlic parm) and fries with the same sauce. All tasted great, but the worst part about it was whomever the bartender was ended up swiping my card for multiple other orders instead of just my own when paying my tab to leave. Definitely a dive bar, it was very dirty and looked unkept. We walked in at 7 for darts and there was not ONE clean table of the 15. And not because they were full, because no one had cleared them. Even though the place was almost empty, it was filthy. Drinks, napkins, plates. Etc. not a good first impression. We ended up moving to the bar instead of the dining room to play. We ordered our drinks and an order of fried raviolis, but after a half hour they still hadn't come out. Then the cook was out socializing and we realized he wasn't cooking our food. Apparently they didn't have raviolis and the new bartender didn't tell us. They did comp our tator tots ( called munchies - had cheese and jalapeños.) Overall, just not impressed. One of my nearby fave dive bars. Pitchers flowing with light beers, wings and tots galore, Dr.'s Inn is one of those top spots for a brewski post-kickball/softball/long day.The wings and bar food (read: tator tots, pizza logs, mozz sticks) are an indulgent treat. Their wings are actually pretty awesome -- sauces like buffalo, BBQ, teriyaki, and garlic parm -- cheap too 10 wings for ~$7. Honestly I don't think anything in a basket here exceeds $7. It serves its purpose for the "I need a beer somewhere within 2 feet of my current location" moments. Sometimes the bartenders cop an attitude, but usually that's just the girls. The guys are pretty cool as is the door guy, he'll chat you up. They have darts and pool, tons of tvs showing all sorts of sports -- they even had tennis on, which was pretty cool to watch at 12am on a Weds. Sundays they have free darts and pool, and 45 cent wings. Solid deal to rep Sunday drinking with friends -- $2.75 drafts. This place is the absolute dirtiest place I've ever been to. Imagine a hoarding house minus the hoarding. So it's pretty disgusting. I don't understand it because almost everyone at the bar had on suits and were dressed pretty well. Come on people if you can dress nice you can at least go to a cleaner place. Come on people. We shot darts here on a Thursday night. We walk in and there wasn't a table that was clean. All empty tables. All of them had at least two half empty glasses. Hardly anybody was there either. Dirt and scum everywhere. We ended up leaving after we shot darts needing a shower. Miraculously we ordered food. And I'm still second guessing my decision based on the cleanliness. We ordered the fried ravolis.. wait a half hour . Mind you were shooting darts and not really paying attention and wonder where our food was. We ask and the bar tender says "we're out of fried ravolis". Ugh. So we ordered the "munchies"? Which were pretty good and they came out fast and we were comped for them. So not a big deal I guess. Please don't go here. Drive a little bit and go some place nice. In the mean time I will be trying to get myself clean after being here for 3 hours. I hope I made myself clear. This is a great hole in the wall to have a chill night when you don't want to get dressed up to go to the other end of east avenue. The Dr's Inn is laid back and has really friendly bartenders along with food/drink specials every day of the week. I was told their wings were the "house specialty" so I tried 2 different kinds - half tossed in dr's sauce and half in a salty maple dry rub. The wings were cooked perfectly, super crispy and fresh. Loved the sauce, but the rub was a little TOO salty and not the favorite of the night. The only other complaint is that the wings were really small and didn't have a ton of meat on them. Overall I had a good experience especially because it was unseasonably warm and we got to hang out on the patio area for a bit. read more

There's a threshold between "Divey" and "Dumpy". Dr.'s Inn seems like they're on a quest to get to the bottom end of "Divey" without going below. I went in with low expectations, and got less. Just because you're a Dive bar doesn't mean your PA system has to be one loud-but-broken-sounding speaker. This place is meant to be a certain thing, and I like that I can shoot some pool and be super casual for a quick pit stop if I ever wanted to, but I seldom find the urge to come here. I'm usually nearby at Wegmans, and I always pull of that parking lot thinking how much I'd love a beer, but there's just so many other places to hang out. I'm willing to respect Dr's Inn for what it is (props for them tater tots), but I don't think it's a stretch to say that a better joint could capitalize on this location better. In fact, I'm not quite sure this city as a whole has mastered the art of creating the perfect dive bar. I'll push myself to give it another go on one of those darts & pool type of nights, but as of now the Dr's charms have eluded me. read more

It's Dr.'s Inn. You get exactly what you expect and don't expect much more than that. It's a dive bar with beer prices that are on the same level as other bars you might go to. Televisions anywhere you turn, darts and pool, and OTB if you're feeling lucky (I'm not so I don't even bother haha). I'm not sure if they still serve food but I haven't really asked. They do have popcorn though, so that works. All in all, Dr's Inn is my "It's Friday, it's 5 o'clock somewhere and it's right next door" needs. They do have pretty good happy hour specials on any given day with a decent selection on tap so take advantage of that. Sometimes it's busy, sometimes it's not. Sometimes you'll get service immediately, sometimes you won't. Don't expect too much from your visit to the doctor and you'll never be disappointed. read more

My Friend and I came into this place, no one acknowledged us we sat down and sat for 5 minutes the girl behind the bar never came over to acknowledged us but kept talking to the men sitting at the bar. Im a college student who lives about a mile from this bar, for us this place is perfect for getting some cheap beer on a weekend night without having to go to East and Alexander. The bar is pretty chill as far as the atmosphere but dont expect to walk into the cleanest place. There is always plenty of sports to watch, darts, pool etc. And the regulars are friendly. The food is not great but it is cheap so i cant complain. The only downfall of this bar is the bartenders. I have noticed the staff is easily stressed by light crowds so i cant imagine how they would handle a busy night. If your looking to drink a lot for a cheap price on a week night while avoiding the bar district Dr.s Inn is definitely the place to go. Update: 12/10/2013: There are some new bartenders that are working now and they all have been friendly and fast and making drinks. Also just recently they must have done something about their beer cooler because the draft beer is now cold! Much better than the warm draft they used to sell. Very pleased! read more

Combine that with the fact that it has free darts and pool on Sundays along with plenty of TVs to watch your game of choice and you have a winning combination. I can't imagine anyone going to the Drs. Inn for the wonderful ambiance, but the beer is always cold and the wings are some of the best I've had in Rochester. I love a dive bar, and Dr.'s Inn surely fits the description. I was happy to not have to get into my Delorian to get back to 1999, all the trappings of the time before functional Internet are fully entrenched and engaged. As people walked into the bar each group made some random offensive comment to no one in particular- "there's fat girls in here;" "oh shit man, I should be more drunk." If you're a single person looking to meet someone literally go anywhere else. The beer is the same or higher price as anywhere else. The only reason I can see to choose the Dr's Inn over every other bar on the planet is OTB- see you in line on Derby Day. read more

The service was quick, its a huge space, and there are a few pool tables and dart boards. Also, they have the best free bar popcorn I have ever eaten. I honestly used to love this place but I went in for 1 beer and wings and it was not busy, one kickball team and maybe 6 locals. The waitress came out with the wings and walked around the bar for 10 minutes looking for who ordered the wings while they are sitting right in front of my face cooling off the entire time. Mind you, I'm the only one in dress clothes in the entire bar with a bright enough shirt at a corner seat literally right in front of the kitchen. She asked if I ordered them and shocked to find out they were probably mine I responded with "seriously"? By this time the wings were just like warm and I wasn't interested anymore. Immediately after telling her I wanted to close out another bartender who was off duty tells her bf (I assume) that "this guy" cancelled the wings that were just made in a less than friendly manner. Going to be straight up! After two experiences I now frown at the Drs. Inn. Am not sure what gave me more displeasure the service or the food. My first experience included a couple kindly priced drinks and a favorable round of pool. Although, it was 50¢ wing day they charged me $6.50 for ten wings. Do they believe I am a poor mathematician? Well they're wrong. My second experience, I learned of their $10 minimum which is pricey for a dirty dive bar. On top of the outrageous minimum, the order of wings they served me was overcooked, looked half eaten and were barely sauced. NEVER AGAIN!!! This is a pretty chill place. I didn't even know that this was a bar until a local told us about it. I stayed at the condo across the street from this place. It's very convenient for us to go here so we gave it a try (walking distance). They have really good beer specials and live music on Saturdays. They have a mixed crowd here (age wise). It's not the busiest bar so if you like that, definitely go here. Atmosphere is like any other bar, very casual, and personable. There are a lot more bars downtown that I would take my friends to instead, so if I ever come back in this area, I may consider bringing friends to this bar. Otherwise, I'd prefer Prepps! read more
