It's kid friendly but you'll have a better time leaving them at home and enjoying some quality time with your significant other or a small group of friends. Couldn't taste where they came from. If you've been eating oysters as long as I. You know they taste and smell like the ocean and bays they come from. Texture, good but flavor was lifeless. No amount of salt helped. Halibut/crab dinner was meh. Seemed over done (imo). Once again, I've prepared enough quality fish/ seafood to know. The veg was fine. The polenta cake was (again) bland, but hot! I really had hopes for the place. It's adorable, packed and they did a good turnover. I did get a creme brulee for later but I have yet to eat it. It was okay, but my salmon was cooked really unevenly -- hammered on the outside and almost undercooked on the inside. The sauce and veggies were fine just all of it seemed pretty overpriced. We spent about $75 for 2 entrees and 1 beer. My partners burger was better than my fish for sure -- the beef looked fresh and he had fun toppings like fig jam and Brie. If you plan to dine with a group that includes a wheelchair-bound hemiplegic diner, don't count on getting any accommodating help - or all entrees properly prepared. We visited the restaurant hours early to plan "ease-of-wheelchair-access" to a reserved table-for-five and were reassured the tables nearest the main entrance would be held. On arrival, we had been bumped to a long picnic table/bench setup in the rear that was completely unworkable. They explained our earlier "reassurances" of suitable seating was a misunderstanding. The wheelchair now had to be squeezed up against an irregular crosscut wooden table with barely enough room for the chair's foot supports. When finally settled in place and our orders taken, everyone relaxed a bit with hopes of some nice entrees. Three of five hit the mark. The arugula pizza for two, however, should never have been brought to the table. It was half carbon - underside and crust - shedding black flaky debris onto the pan. On pointing this out to our waiter, he cheerily explained they use a wood-fired oven and this happens. Wrong answer. Yes, you use a wood oven that heats to 700 to 900 F and cooks pizza in 90 second to 2 minutes. You have to rotate it every 10 to 20 seconds. So teach your cooks: don't get distracted. And if you burn it, don't serve it ! Ordering coffee and desserts led to another low point. We were presented with one full cup of hot regular and my decaf - a half-cup. Our smiley waiter explained it was the last of the decaf pot. I just gave an exasperated "Fine" and tasted it as he moved on to another table Being less than lukewarm warm, I flagged him back. He asked if I would like it microwaved. Seriously ? That's your remedy for this situation? Microwave the dregs of the pot? The Drift Inn seems to be riding on its prior reviews, dropping any quality standards or the need for staff training. ("We're The Drift Inn: We don't have to care.") Perhaps with a dependable flow of Highway 101 tourist traffic, repeat customers aren't needed. Fortunately, the regulars have other, nicer places available in Yachats. read more

One of our favorite restaurants on the Oregon Coast. First, the staff is stellar. Today, Dorothy gave quick history, she was so personable. The decor and overall vibe is charming, check out the inviting patio in Summer. The Alaskan Scramble with excellent polenta was delicious (probably the most expensive menu item.) The Drift Inn Crepes with salmon and Manchego cheese was wonderful on taste, but very, very light on salmon. To the point you're asking yourself, "did they forget the salmon? Not sure what all the 1-Stars are about. However, I so agree with the common sentiment against automatic (assumed) 20% gratuity. How about you let the customer decide if they received good service? Maybe some shine has tarnished off the restaurant's luster over the years. Parking can be spotty. Still, it's the place to eat when staying in or nearby Yachats. read more

Friendly service - from ordering on the phone to pick up, they were friendly all around. Great food - I got one of the burgers, fries, and a margarita to-go (one benefit of being in Oregon!!). Food was fantastic, and everything was packed up carefully for takeout. The margarita was separated between two cups - one with the drink and one with ice - I forget why tbh but it was a good reason. I've have been here a few times as I live in Yachats. Every time it has been good. Except this last time. I ordered for my daughter's birthday. On April 17. The chocolate cake was great and my daughter loved the chicken strips. I ordered the mole Enchiladas and they tasted okay. But for $25 I would have expected more. We went for breakfast. We were a little confused and entered through the patio. After a five minute wait to be seated someone directed us to the front. The patio is really cute and had a heater but we ended up sitting inside. Service was great. They automatically add the gratuity to the bill. Food was really good. My husband had the French toast. Our server, Michael, was just delightful, friendly and kind with a smile that could sell toothpaste. Their chai latte is also very tasty!! Our group had some dietary restrictions, including gluten free. Half of us ordered the chicken and waffles. The restaurant only has 1 waffle machine so the food took a bit of time to come out. Given the 1 machine, the "gluten free" waffles were definitely cross contaminated. This review is for the restaurant only. The service was, at best, mediocre. We had to ask twice for a soda refill, and our request for additional tartar sauce was never fulfilled. When we did ask for these items, the waiter was abrupt and dismissive. It became clear why when we noticed a 20% gratuity had been automatically added to the bill--even though we were a group of four with separate checks. I would have gladly tipped 20% on my own, assuming they might be short-staffed. However, once I realized the tip was automatically included, the lack of attentive service felt more like a lack of motivation. That's disappointing. I really want to like this place, I keep giving it chances, but literally every single time I go there someone in my party gets horribly sick. We actually stopped here twice on our weekend trip! First to try the best Bloody Mary! Just spicy enough and good veggies. Second the next day for breakfast! So good! Veggie omelet was full of perfectly cooked spinach, broccoli, carrots, and peppers. The potatoes could have used a little more crisping but very flavorful! Bottom Line Up Front: I have been here multiple times, and their food is really good. But, they know it is good, and there is limited competition on that area of Oregon Coast so they get away with borderline Customer Service that wouldn't fly in other geographic areas. I loved the menu and the food choices. Not typical fish & chips only- or clam chowder American Food. I ordered the Persian Fusion Rice Bowl! And, it was executed really well, I highly recommend that dish! ANd, everyone else in my party loved their entrees as well. Their beer on tap is a hit, obviously can't go wrong with that! Previously, my husband and I ordered take-away and got a Pizza to pick up from their pizza window. THat one was easy and straight forward, no hurt pride, just delicious pizza in our mouths! Overall, the food is great, the vibe is pretty good for a town of that size. BUt, not a show-stopped that you "Must go" when visiting Yachats. And, I would love to see them communicate with their clients a tad bit better, mainly -- considering the Call-ahead option of even just being able to put your name on the list like 15 minutes early as you were driving over the restaurant would go along way. Or, I understand it is hard to predict how busy the pub will be on a Saturday night, but some clue that it would be an hour wait, or it *COULD* be an hour wait would have been appreciated, hey we probably would have made arrangements to be there at 5pm or earlier if we had known. read more

I stayed at the Drift Inn this week, and also had dinner at the restaurant the same evening. The whole thing was a special getaway for myself after a busy few weeks at work. I'll start with the positive and say that if I were writing the review for the hotel alone, it would be five stars. I got one of the small rooms and found it to be a cozy little spot for a good value. Both the room itself and the common spaces were clean, tidy, and well stocked. The bed, pillows, and linens were incredibly comfortable and I slept like a dream. Dinner didn't start great. I walked in at around 7pm and was greeted by the hostess. I told her I had a party of one, and I think she assumed I must be there to mingle because she offered to have me sit at the bar. I told her that I actually don't drink and I was there to get dinner. Well, this threw her, apparently. She kind of stammered and said, "Oh, well...huh. Hmmm. Let me see what I can do." She went to consult over this dilemma with another employee. I looked into the immediate dining room area and saw empty tables, so it seemed strange that I presented a problem. The restaurant didn't seem busy by any means, as expected on a Monday, I assume. After some back and forth with the other employee, she came back and stated that she could seat me on the patio. I hesitated, but said that was fine if it was the only option. I had seen photos of the interior of the restaurant before, and that was honestly the atmosphere I envisioned enjoying dinner in. The patio area was indeed charming in it's own way and might be perfect for a sunny brunch, but it was evening and a chilly breeze was creeping in. I could also see directly into the open kitchen from my seat which was...not the ambiance I had hoped for. I ordered the Persian Fusion Rice Bowl and the combination of ingredients sounded lovely. I got a soft drink and a perfectly good quality house salad, although the Bleu cheese dressing was a runny disappointment. The waitress did offer to turn the heater on since she noticed it was getting colder, and I appreciated that. Before I was even done with the salad, my waitress arrived with my entree! So, they were at least very speedy in getting things out. From the description I had pictured perfectly roasted chunks of eggplant and big pieces of juicy, fresh pears...but it all just kind of massed together into one mushy mess of ingredients. The pieces of pear I could actually detect were so mushy they could only have been canned pears. There was nothing technically wrong with it, so I hesitated to complain. Part way through the meal, I realized another missing aspect I had very much looked forward to was the live music that was advertised. I assume the musicians cancelled and that happens sometimes. I don't blame the restaurant for that, but it was just another element of this special treat that was missing. Since there was no live music to linger for, I ordered a piece of cheesecake to go, which was delivered in a box by the busboy. Meanwhile, my check arrived. I knew there was a mandatory 20% gratuity added on, so it didn't surprise me when I saw it on the check. My total for the entree, soft drink, and cake was $45. I gave her my credit card. She brings back my card with another check that has the $45 inclusive total, but this check has a tip line to fill in. I froze. I thought the 20% thing was all-inclusive, but now I start to think that was just a service charge and this line is for the waitress or something? Honestly, I felt to embarrassed to ask and risk looking stupid or cheap, so I wrote in $5 on the tip line. So, $50 out the door. And service wasn't anything special. The hostess seemed borderline annoyed with me in the beginning, and the waitress was professional but far from warm or inviting. It almost felt as though I was an inconvenience, even though I wasn't demanding in any way and didn't complain about anything. To top it off, when I exited the restaurant I passed the dining room and it looked no fuller or busier than before. I can only assume they had been holding tables for reservations (you can only make reservations for five or more people). At that point I took my cheesecake back to my room. Spoiler: I don't think the cheesecake had set properly because it wasn't very firm at all. Also, the chocolate topping was not a decadent ganache or fancy shaved chocolate. It was just a semisweet syrup like Hershey's. The more I thought about my dinner here, the more I realize that it was actually the one disappointing experience in an otherwise pretty nice trip. A mediocre meal that lasted just over 30 minutes cost me nearly as much as a nice room for an entire night. Also, it would be really nice if they gave hotel guests the perk of making reservations. I feel like at least my experience might have been somewhat improved by being seated where I preferred, when it seems I was likely cast aside for other reservations. read more

Wonderful unique dining experience! The colorful cotton napkin was an early cue that something special was going on here. From the artistic, funky ambience to the professional servers - thanks Ian - we had the meal of our central Oregon coast trip here. The food was amazing, but it was so much more than that. Welcoming, and seems to attract a broad array of people (real Oregon hippies, gay folk, and others) that you don't necessarily see in other local establishments catering to travelers.
