I loved staying at this hotel! It's a cute hotel with an adorable gift shop. Dog friendly which is always great. And right next to the 804 trail for a super scenic walk. Waking up early to empty the dog was less of a chore getting to hear the waves first thing. I wish I was fortunate enough to start every day sipping on a coffee while staring out into the ocean. I feel like all my anxieties and stresses would wash away with the outgoing tide. My only note is that the walls are a bit thin. My wife & I have been on a road trip through 4 Western states the last 2 weeks. This being our last overnight stop was a welcome relief. Lovely hotel accommodations if you want somewhere pet friendly! $15 pet fee/night with a max of 2 pets. Our hotel room (#29) was on the 1st floor on the farthest end of the hotel with only one neighbor (worked out well with a baby that cries at night). The pet friendly room had no pet odor and was very clean. I appreciated the pet pack that included towels and linens for the pet if they were to climb on any furniture. I was expecting a place that had beach front views and pet friendly to be not so comfortable, but was pleasantly surprised by how nice the hotel interior was. Don't let the outside look fool you. We enjoyed our balcony that faced the ocean and appreciated the small windows in the front and back of the room to allow the ocean breeze to cool down the room (otherwise, no ac just heating). Room 3 was great! We could hear ocean, but not the other hotel guests. It's easy to step outside and see the ocean and walk along the ocean side trail. A true Motel. Two stories high to give you best ocean watching experience. Our room had a California king, and a Queen pullout, nice t.v., small fridge and coffee maker. Enough room for an adult and three teens. 5 would fit nicely. One night was a little less than a couple hundred. Lobby has coffee and hot chocolate all day until 10:30pm. Continental breakfast starts 7:30 to 10:30am, in the lobby. You are offered cereals, yogurts, hard boiled eggs, O.J.and fruits. Nothing cooked. But the main attraction is the beach. A very nice walking path is laid out as close to the ocean as can safely be. wooden benches dot the area so you can watch whales migrate. Quite the serene setting. Not much on amenities. No pool, few vending machines, but what they lack, they make up for with souvenir's in the lobby. read more

So why just 3 stars? Because COVID is as over as it'll probably ever be & these people do not provide any in-room service! (Yes, they will leave requested items eg, towels outside one's door.). I am now tired of lodgings who charge the same but offer no service, using COVID or other worries as the excuse. It is time to do better! I do expect service for my dollars spent. What a wonderful surprise awaited us in Yachats, and although short, what a GREAT visit we had in this small, scenic village, due in large part to our stay at this beautiful motel!! Careful, you might miss it, like we almost did as we headed south on 101. Not because it's small (it's not huge..) but because it's set back a bit from the road (nice and quiet, even front facing rooms), and semi-hidden by some beautiful trees out front. Easy check in process, and although we had hoped for ocean-front view, I think we did even better with our surprise upgraded room facing front AND with an excellent view of the ocean from our king-sized bed. Room 141 was PERFECT, and laying in bed, with the window open to catch the ocean breeze was beyond our expectations. There's a pricier, more full service hotel next door, but I don't think we could have done any better than we did at the Fireside for DOUBLE the price!! Clean, comfortable, close to town and right near a wonderful ocean side walking path, I truly wish we could have stayed here longer than one night, and would recommend it to anyone traveling through this area!! read more

We have stayed here while visiting friends who live in the area, however we both have dogs who don't get along and Fireside is a nice spot to layover. Most rooms are very comfortable, however: A word of caution: Avoid staying in Room 42. Windows are sealed up and there is no ventilation in the stuffy room. No AC to add any ventilation. The headboard on bed is low with a wood molding the sticks out so watch your head when you lean back to read! read more

Oregon Live calls Yachats "the gem of the Oregon coast" for its many attractions -- the black basalt rock shoreline, Cape Perpetua, Smelts Sands State Park, the miles of scenic hiking trails. So what do you do if you're from out of town and come here with a dog? The Fireside is a fine motel if you're looking for a reasonably priced dog-friendly place to stay that's right on the ocean and right off Highway 101 (drive slowly or you might miss it). We were able to book a first-floor room with an ocean view and had no real complaints. Yes, you can hear the people in the next room when they sit out on their patio, which adjoins your patio, having a drink and looking out at the ocean. But you can also hear the roar of the ocean and the constantly rolling waves crashing on the rocks. We were fortunate to book a room with a recently refinished floor -- no carpeting. Ask for a first-floor pet-friendly room without carpeting. And when you take advantage of the scenic walk just outside, be a good guest and bring a few waste bags. Friendly staff, eager to give you all sorts of tips about where to go and what to see in the area. While we were there some local anglers stood on the rocks beyond our windows and fished. Another reviewer called this her "happy place". I will post a review, but no one could say it better. There are two sister properties next to each other overlooking the ocean, Overleaf Lodge and Fireside Motel. Overleaf offers a few more amenities, has private balconies, does not allow pets, and is roughly $100/night more expensive. I can promise you that in our 2 nights at the Fireside we never once wished we were anywhere else. By all means get a room with an ocean view; it is mesmerizing. We even opened the small window at night and fell asleep in no time, listening to the comforting sounds of the waves. Our room was spacious, VERY clean, and quiet, even with dogs in the rooms on either side of us. We loved having a glass of wine out on our porch after a walk along the beautiful trail between us and the ocean (though it did make us miss our dog we had to leave back home). The staff was so very welcoming and friendly and eager to insure we enjoyed our stay. While we loved every stop of our 12-day, 6-locales trip to the Pacific Northwest, Yachats and the Fireside were our favorites. read more

This is the third time we've stayed here and enjoyed it every time. First, the staff is incredibly helpful and have a great sense of humor. Michelle was great and we earned a discount by giving her cans of food to give to the homeless that the hotel supports. If you can, reserve a room on the top floor facing the ocean; the view is incredible, especially at high tide, and there is a path or lots of places to walk on the rocks at low tide. They do offer a breakfast of donuts, coffee, OJ, muffins, eggs and other things in the main office and you'll probably end up eating them in your room or on a bench out by the ocean. There's a fireplace in the room to keep it warm, the top rooms have a balcony and the beds comfortable. The only reason I didn't give it a 5* was because it seemed that my computer ran much slower than it does elsewhere, but other than that, a great find! read more

Traveling south on Hwy 101 in Oregon is full of adventure doing it without reservations can be scary. But this trip being off season, May, we were very lucky. The Fireside Motel is located on the rocky shores of the Pacific and our room, the Oystercatcher, was large,clean and had a deck looking west. The only sounds heard from our room was the crashing of the waves on the rocks . The room rental included a very basic continental breakfast. Lodging in Yachats is limited so at the very least phone ahead to ensure you have room. read more

Celebrated my latest birthday with a first visit to Yachats on the Oregon Coast and our first stay at the Fireside Motel. Loved the village, loved the motel. We stayed in a first-floor oceanfront room and I can't recommend that combo highly enough. Lovely clean two-queen bedroom with a mini-fridge, TV, and small back patio facing a stunning ocean view. The back of the Fireside is bordered by the craggy coast, along which runs the 804 trail which is a truly wonderful adventure of its own. The 804 may have once been a tribal trail along the coast and was apparently used by early white settlers, too. It's now an intriguing path that winds behind many of the nearby oceanfront hotels and leads eventually into the small downtown of Yachats, so it's great to have easy access from the Fireside. Fireside offered daily continental breakfast served from the main office (with trays provided so you can carry food back to your room if desired) and their staff was really efficient and friendly. Nice gift shop in the main office, too. It's a great setting, a lovely staff, and the views are not to be believed from the oceanfront rooms--well worth the moderate expense, and Yachats itself is da bomb. Highly recommended. read more

Like a best kept secret I have to say. The ocean couldn't be any closer. The rooms are clean and quiet from our own experience. They allow pups too and for this time of year prices are very reasonable. We got a break because they are also doing a canned food drive so you can get 20% off as well. They have towels and a sheet with a couple of dog biscuits for your pooch which they give you at the same time as your key at the desk. They are doing some remodeling so be patient but we got a newer room because of that. Town is very close by with lots of great restaurants as well. The hotel itself is right on the 804 trail so you can just leave your room and walk to the beach.. can't get better than that. read more

We were very pleased with the layout, the modern TV and DVD player, the refrigerator and microwave, two sinks, and coffee maker with coffee and tea already for us. We did not partake in the breakfast but from looking at it I could tell it was very well done. Sometimes you only need a hard boiled egg in the morning to get started and they have that! It was quiet minus the waves crashing against the beach, which was just fine. I have no complaints about this motel all and I very much hope to stay again soon. The Oregon coast is spectacular, and you can easily spend 5-7 days there sightseeing or exploring. We took a week's trip along the entire length of the Oregon Coast going from North to South in October. For our middle leg, we had hoped to stay at another Oceanfront Lodge as it looks nice on the website, but they were unfortunately repaving their parking lot and were closed. So we had to go with Fireside Motel. I had been hesitant about booking a room that did not directly face the water, and while their rooms are all within steps to the ocean, ours faced the parking lot. The key to a great review here is probably getting a room where you can sit inside or on the balcony and watch the tides, especially on a cold and rainy day, from your room. Perhaps in better weather, it doesn't matter. They call it a "vintage" motel, and it most definitely is that, peeling paint on the doors, weathered, older furnishings and fixtures, etc., but it on is a nice setting along a public walking path that faces the amazing ocean. We chose to spend our time driving up north again and back through the scenic areas that we missed, and did not spend much time in the room or walking this path. After about 7 pm, we did not see any acceptable places to eat--again it was rainy and windy and cold--so we headed to a small grocery-type store that was an incredible rip-off with poor quality of stuff and got the best options we could. Not that many options for food that we could see. We should have shopped in Newport. Our room was designated "pet friendly" as we were traveling with our dog, and the room had an indescribable odor, probably some type of disinfectant. I had read other reviews about this, so we were armed with room deodorizer that still didn't mask it. The bathroom was a bit dingy, and the mini refrigerator froze our food solid, but the piece de resistance was that we had no hot water. They had informed us of this maintenance issue upon check-in, and told us it would be only for a few hours. A couple hours later, I received a call that said there would be no hot water for the rest of the night. I'm sure it was out of their control, but we REALLY needed hot water as my traveling companion had a medical necessity that arose that morning on our drive, and wish they could have told us prior to checking in. We would have gone elsewhere. The front desk offered us the chance to take a shower at their sister facility next door, but what an enormous inconvenience to walk a change of clothing and shower supplies over to another hotel (even though it was next door through a large parking lot) at night in the cold rain. The other offer was to comp our room for one night, which they did. We are easy, low-key travelers and did not complain, even through the passing of a kidney stone on vacation. (Sometimes when you need HOT WATER, you need HOT WATER). Again it was a medical necessity, and we're not just complaining about inconvenience. There are other things we found off-putting, but we'll just leave it at that. Over all, I'd say there are better places to stay in this section of the coast, like right door at their sister lodge if you don't have a dog with you, and this motel might be more feasible if just passing through for one night at a low rate. Or at least pay a lot more for a window on the coast so you can relax and stare at the coastline. read more

The Fireside is a very basic motel in an incredible place. A gorgeous, rocky beach is just steps away. It has old-fashioned furnishings, but is kept scrupulously clean. The biggest plus, aside from location, is that it's pet friendly. They provide pet owners with extra sheets and towels for keeping dog hair off the furniture and for keeping puppies clean. The biggest minus is the sound. I could hear every step taken by the people over me. I am guessing that the second floor rooms are much quieter. I couldn't get an ocean view room, because I booked at the last minute, but they look very nice with their little outdoor seating areas overlooking the Pacific. There is a lovely walking trail along the shoreline. Even in the room that's farthest from the ocean, I can hear the waves. Breakfast included hard boiled eggs, scones, a selection of hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The room has a coffeemaker, microwave, and mini-fridge. read more

I was not able to grab an ocean view room in time but rooms 1-18 (not considered ocean view) still get a good earful of ocean wave crashing goodness when the window is open (no window screens though). My room had a microwave and refrigerator along with regular hotel perks like flat screen tv, DVD player, cable, coffee maker, tub, blow dryer, etc. There was free coffee and goodies in the lobby at all times and the continental breakfast had fruit, eggs, cereal, and muffins. Fireside is simply one of the best places I've ever stayed (dog friendly, yay!!) My friend and I were road tripping earlier this summer. My friend who is incredibly adept at finding gems (restaurants, hotels, bars, etc) happened upon Fireside via some app she was using on her phone. Fireside accommodated our extremely late arrival by leaving our key onsite despite the fact that they close at 10pm and even gave us a deal on the room given our late arrival. We arrived around 1am, easily found our key and made our way to our room. The moment we walked into our beautiful clean room (with fireplace), saw our view via the private completely fenced in deck (for woofs), we agreed immediately that we would stay another night (imagine two people looking at each other and at the same time saying we're totally staying here another night). Despite the fact that we were road tripping to Montana, we decided that there was no way we were going to miss out on enjoying not only Fireside but Yachats in general. Fireside is directly located on the 804 Trail which is a beautiful 7 mile path through Yachats. We walked (with the woof) from our room to downtown Yachats and loved not only the ocean views along the path but the beautiful homes that line the path. The town is amazing, the people are genuine and the landscape is beyond words. Fireside just felt like home. We didn't want to leave. Not sure how often you can say that about a motel. We were so excited to stay at this motel. A friend recommended it to me for my celebratory trip with mom finishing her caner treatment. I booked a room the week before (the only place we booked ahead of time for this trip). I called on our way to see if they could put us in a room with two beds instead of one. The woman that answered, Jen, was unbelievably rude. Downright nasty. A little kindness and compassion goes a long way. I have no problem hearing "no", if it comes with some manners. When I asked her name she said "you want to talk to the manager?" so I said ok... The manager proceeded to cut me off saying "since you don't seem to understand how this works, let me explain it to you". Maybe they hate their jobs, maybe they don't like tourists. Maybe they shouldn't work in customer service. When I called the booking company to see if they could help after that treatment on the phone they were told "my booking could not be located"... These women actually cancelled our room. It took all afternoon to rearrange our plans and wasted valuable time on our trip. My friends will no longer be recommending this motel and I hope the owners reevaluate the people they hire. read more
