We love the Silver Surf for its proximity to the beach, the balconies, the kitchenettes, and the comfy beds. We've been coming for years. As someone now elderly with mobility issues, it's becoming harder for me to access the beach. I hope putting in a set of stairs is not impossible. Also, rubber mats in the bathtub would be very helpful. We'll try to remember to bring our own, but we'd love it if there were some already there. read more

We have stayed here many times over the years. I'm giving five stars partly because the newer management has made so many great improvements in the last year or so. Last year (just after the new managers started) our bed was so hard we were hobbling around during the day and I let the management know that. Someone clearly listened as this year (in the same room) the bed was amazing! I don't know if they have (or needed to) upgrade all the beds but ours was awesome. The people that work there are lovely, everything was clean and well taken care of - definitely an improvement from a few years ago! Can't wait for our next visit! read more

Nice spot to stay right on the beach. This dog friendly hotel is a great value for your dollar. If you don't plan on going out and want to sit in your room all day this might not be the spot for you - no fancy stuff or jacuzzi tubs but they have a pool for the kids. The room was clean and yes the hotel is a bit old but it's been well taken care of. The staff was friendly and helpful - really nice folks. You look out over what seems to be a mile Long Beach and since you are at the end of Yachats you kinda have the beach to yourself. Great beds - clean rooms - nice staff and affordably prices - perfect for a weekend beach outing. read more

BEDBUGS!!! Don't stay here, they have bed bugs. I stayed here with my family over the weekend of 2/4/23 in Cabin #44. When we woke up to check out of the motel my wife had bites all over her neck. We turned up the mattress and found bed bugs immediately. I notified the owner/manager who was very apologetic. When we returned home we received an email from the manager and the tone had changed. They said the photos of the bed bugs were not from their motel. I called back and emailed them the photos which are time/date and location stamped at their hotel. Since then we have heard nothing. At no point did we ask for a refund, that was never my intention. The manager made us feel like we were trying to rip them off. I just want them to take this issue seriously. I've reported this hotel to Lincoln County HHS. read more

The previous owners having retired, the Silver Surf had been under new management for just a few weeks when my wife and I arrived for a two night stay. It was clear that Mandy & Anthony are already taking steps to refurbish and update the place. Our kitchenette, for instance, while modest, was equipped with new cooking utensils and dinnerware. The bathroom had enough room so it didn't feel cramped, and the bed mattresses were firm but bouncy. But the main selling point, of course, is the room's view of the surf rolling in on the nearby (and easily accessible) beach. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and watching the sun go down. Better than TV! (Although we did stay up late, enjoying a movie from the large collection of DVDs.) Staff were friendly and helpful, rates were reasonable, and accommodations were comfortable. Nothing fancy, just a nice place to crash while enjoying Yachats, Cape Perpetua, or any of the other highlights of the beautiful Oregon coast. We'd be very happy to stay there again some time. read more

Honestly just a great experience all around. The room was great - obviously with it being a beach property everything is not going to be in pristine condition, but everything was clean and tidy. Our room (which I think is the same as the other rooms) had a mini kitchen area with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, stovetop, sink, and assorted tableware. We didn't use any of it other than the fridge, but it's great to know it was there if we needed it. All rooms (except for the bungalows off the side) have a beachfront view to the ocean, and it's really great to go to sleep, listening to the sound of the waves. Speaking of sleep, the bed was very comfortable! I saw 2 different front desk workers for the 2 nights I was there, and both were extremely friendly and helpful. It's about 1-1.5 miles away from downtown Yachats, which might be a plus or a minus, depending on how close you want to be. I enjoyed it because I don't really like being right in the middle of the action. I guess the only con I could think of is that the parking lot is quite small and there's an off chance that there might not be any parking available if you come in during the evenings. If we come back to Yachats, I would 100% consider staying at Silver Surf again. It was great! read more

This hotel is cute as a button and with beachfront access/a view at an affordable price. I deduct one star because the indoor pool/jacuzzi was pretty dirty, and the pool machinery was so noisy you couldn't relax without plugging up the vents with a towel. Also, the continental breakfast was a disgrace to breakfasts everywhere--sad, packaged bran muffins with 70 ingredients and not a piece of fruit to be found. You could do better at a gas station. Luckily, you could make your own breakfast in the room's kitchenette! read more

We stayed this week for 3 days. Staff were friendly, rooms were clean. The stove smoked up our room.we tried our neighbors, the stove didn't warm up. The hair dryer didn't work. The toaster smoked and set off fire alarm. Bed was uneven, has broken and was propped up. The stairs to the grass above the beach are worn, uneven, no railing. Beach access is a muddy, sloppy two foot tall steps, vaguely cut out of clay hillside. No rope, rail, nothing. Noticed neighboring homes had concrete steps . Pool? Hvac sounds like a 747 taking off, moldy walls. Who owns this place? read more

I Only have two issues with this motel and that's the fact that the hot tub for one is broken, and for two the Wi-Fi here is so bad that I can't even call inside of my own room. Terrible inconvenience seeing as I don't feel very comfortable outside of my room and would like to enjoy the comfort of calling inside. I tried seeing if I could start a call outside of my room and slowly move inside to see if I could keep the call going. However as soon as I step inside the call drops. Especially seeing as I paid for the room and all, this inconvenience is much bigger than it seems. This needs to be fixed and addressed as soon as possible. I used to enjoy this place but I think a change in management has now made this place a once enjoyable spot into one that is not so much so. read more

This motel was managed by a long term manager/owner? that had a loyal group of users. There is even a memorial garden with dates of those customers who have passed. It was clearly a well loved place with lots of TLC even though it was old. I went twice five years ago and it was quaint with a nice little restaurant. Management has changed and my recent visit was an absolute last time. All the little TLC stuff is gone, gone. The cabin was actually dirty (grime accumulated through poor cleaning), the internet sucked (worked very sporadically and slowly), the heat was so poor that it was pretty cold, the restaurant no longer operates, the hot tub didn't work and the new management seems to really not care. This place needs to be bulldozed. read more

What a beautiful spot! The room is super clean. The view is nuts. They even had a dog bowl with treats and a ball waiting for my Pablo! the smell of mold was overpowering when we walked in. The shower floor had black mold in it. The area around the sink had 1/4 inch of brown slime and hair around it. The dishes were really dirty. The bed comforter smelled so badly of mold that it made my blanket I put over it reek. The carport to get in and out of the room was so flooded that our feet, socks and shoes got soaked. The manager seemed to know that the place smelled bad because the window was open when we arrived. I was awake until 5:30 because of the overpowering smell. Throughout the night my throat and eyes burned. When we told the manager about the mold, lack of sleep and unhygienic conditions. she was indignant, unapologetic and was firm that we had to pay for the extra 2 days that we had booked. The manager took no responsibility and when we asked to speak to the owner she told us that he would not talk to us. We paid for three nights at the Silver Surf for one horrific night. To ad insult to injury the manager had some crazy right wing bumper stickers on her car. read more

They are not what they once were. On our last stay there was a lot of dirt at the edges of the rooms, curtains, and bathrooms. Lots of little things not working. Fireplace heater would turn on some times but not others. The grounds have not been kept mowed, so there was a fair amount of long dead grass. Beware the hidden dog poop that inconsiderate owners had not cleaned up. This used to be one of the cleanest motels on the coast. That was probably due to a managing individual that no longer works there. Still has wonderful location and easy access to the sandy beach just north of Yachats. read more

It was 10:30pm at night and after a very long drive. We arrived. The room was great and more than enough room to accommodate 3 people. Unfortunately the staff was rude and kick us out. Because they said they only allowed two people. Which it was NOT STATED TO US DURING OUR RESERVATION ONLINE. WORSE WE HAD NO CELL PHONE SIGNAL. Was looking for a place to stay for a few nights during a Spring Break trip with my teenaged daughter. Stayed at the Silver Surf because they had a Spring special and they had kitchenettes. We were very happy here! Comfy beds, super clean room, awesome beach view and access, well-outfitted kitchenette (really, a small kitchen--when I read "kitchenette," I think of a mini-fridge and a microwave). They also have a renovated indoor pool and hot tub, which is probably the cleanest and least hyper-chlorinated indoor pool I've ever been in! Every staff member we encountered, from the reservation process over the phone, to checking out, was friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay at the Silver Surf again. P.S. Actually received a note when we returned home, thanking us for filling out the feedback form before leaving, and for staying there....extraordinary! We will definitely be back! read more

This is the perfect little getaway when you want to just relax and slip away from the world for a night or two. It's not fancy, but it's very clean and the owners are incredibly friendly. It's an older place, but there is charm in that. It feels like a beach getaway from 1965, back when we didn't care about whether we could check our email (there is wifi though) or if the TV is 42 inches and plasma. (You get cable, which is good enough.) There's a little kitchenette if you don't want to leave the room at all, and there are a surprising number of good restaurants in Yachats, a short drive away. (Surprising for the size of the town, that is!) Best of all, they are pet friendly, even including little towels in the bathroom for the doggie paws. It's great to stay in the fancy resorts with in-room massage, but sometimes it's great to just relax in simplicity. read more

The Silver Surf motel left a lot to be desired! Some fresh linens would have been nice, we were there for a week, but no room service at all! (you were on your own!) They never checked to see if you needed anything during your stay and were actually very rude about it! I don't recommend the Silver surf, they need some serious upgrades in customer service! read more

My wife and I have stayed at Silver Surf frequently for 30 years We were always treated like family but understood that there was going to be a change in ownership. We asked another couple to join us for a week and we both booked 8 months in advance. We were told there were no adjoining rooms available and asked that the rooms be close to each other. We were placed at opposite ends of the facility. We all understand the necessity of Covid precautions but absolutely nothing was provided unless we happened catch a room attendant. We had to take our trash to a filthy garbage area, almost beg for fresh towels after four days, and were told to use out dated liquid soap or body wash for washing hands as they were out of their slivers of bar soap. We stayed at two different chain motels during our travel for less money and were treated as valued guests. The word "hospitality" did not apply to our visit. We will not stay at Silver Surf again and recommend that other avoid the facility as well. read more

I have stayed at the Silver Surf numerous times throughout the years largely in part because of the beautiful view and dog friendly rooms. Over the summer I visited Yachats and it was so disappointing I left early! And I WAS NOT REFUNDED! The previous owners kept the place immaculately clean, lawns mowed and flower beds kept up. The beds, and pillows were the worst, that's the primary reason we left early. We couldn't sleep! The upstairs neighbors were partying all night long and tromping right over our heads! I have never stayed anywhere that I have not been refunded! I will never stay there again and I don't recommend that you do either! The Adobe has a better view and pool BTW. read more

Perfect coastal motel! Nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable and excellent beachfront location. Sits a distance off the highway so we didn't hear any traffic noise. And a very easy beach access. Unobstructed ocean surf view from all motel rooms (cabin units are not beachfront). Booked last minute online, when we checked in the front desk manager offered and honored their lower 3-night rate, saving us $$. Very classy and much appreciated, we were not aware of the special rate, good business! Bring your own extras such as shampoo and hair dryer. Otherwise you should be good to go! OK, let's take this revue in three parts. LOCATION: Yachets (ya-hots) is a quiet and laid back village straddling coastal HYWAY 101 with a great beachfront, featuring a mix of houses and small motels/hotels. Good family atmosphere, minimal shopping. THE MOTEL: Best for couples and older children. Right on the best part of the beach and dog friendly. Several yard games (volleyball, horseshoes, beach balls, etc. Most buildings date to the 1950s but are well maintained and clean. Minimal mobility support & no elevator. A heated indoor swimming pool, hot tub and "library" are in separate building which is clean and inviting. Many families seem to return annually. Desk service and suggestions are appropriate and friendly. THE BISTRO! Now for the best part! My Yelper dream was to discover an unheralded culinary gem. The Bistro at the Silver Surf is my eureka! This tiny restaurant puts out some of the best grub on the coast. The menu is sort of International-American with a touch of coastal seafood. The bistro also has an excellent selection of wines, beers and ciders. There is one competent, engaging waiter Shawn and a husband and wife chef team, Shelley and Chris, who double as motel managers. The dining room/bar seats about 20. Weather permitting, another 20 or so can be seated outside. The restaurant does not advertise. It pretty much caters to motel guests and some knowledgeable locals. Reservations are strongly recommended! The first night we sampled the superb clam chowder, distinguished by the absence of salt pork or bacon and all the better for it. Texture was creamy, not pasty. A huge chopped salad was fresh and featured candied pecans, fresh pear slices, cranberries and cucumbers topped with an excellent light creamy honey dressing. Speaking of huge, the chicken pot pie could easily fed 2-3. This star of the night had a melt in your mouth crust, tender chicken and vegetables cooked with a satisfactory remaining crunch. The accompanying garlic mashers would make an Englishman swoon. Fish tacos were competently prepared and attractively served. The accompanying fruit salsa was excellent. The second night was even better! I had perfectly cooked beef medallions topped with lump crabmeat, asparagus spears, Bearnaise sauce and lightly sautéed prawns in butter. I had a filbert infused brown ale. (The filbert is Oregon state nut). My sweetheart had an absolutely superb baked halibut, Parmesan encrusted and enrobed with a white wine cream sauce. We split an order of Bananas Foster, paid a reasonable bill and left smiling. read more

This is a place that my in-laws have been going to for many years and this year was my first. I absolutely love this place and would highly recommend staying here if you are in Yachats. The staff is very friendly and helpful, there is an indoor pool and hot tub, pet friendly, and the view is spectacular. The rooms are extremely clean and have been updated with new flooring, cable TV and Wi-Fi, and an electric fireplace for heating. There are also community doors from room to room if you plan to book multiple rooms like we did. Included in the rooms is a small kitchen area that have a fridge, freezer, electric stove top with oven, sink, dishes and utensils. It make your stay feel like a home away from home. You'll definitely want to stay here if you're in this part of the Oregon Coast. read more

Sleepy little seaside motel in sleepy, charming little Yachats, OR we happened upon during a recent road trip up the West Coast. Most, if not all of the rooms look out at what is usually a menacing Pacific Ocean and it's foggy, misty, cloudy horizon. Beautiful in a sort of frightening way. The motel itself is a bit old, but all the amenities are here and the rooms are super clean with super clean, (and NEW!) appliances like refrigerators, coffee makers, stoves and such. The pool area matches the overall feel and condition of the hotel but still a good choice for a stay if you don't require the newest in hotel accommodations. Staff is friendly, check-in and check-out process simple and quick. While the motel boasts free wi-fi, don't bet on it. We finally gave up on using the fading in-and-out signal but I hope they'll improve on this eventually. Beautiful ocean view, quiet area, can't be beat! read more

My family has stayed a few times at the Silver Surf since I was a kid. The new owners have done a great job renovating the place. The cabins are a nice place to be lazy and stretch out and the rooms have a great view of the ocean. The flooring has been redone and the beds are comfortable. The negatives are that there are still a few fit and finish things to go over. One bathroom had a crack in the floor of the shower stall and one bedroom door was catching causing delamination. The internet in our end rooms was very weak beyond the bathrooms. Fortunately I had a range extender that solved the problem. The silver surf is one of the prettiest stretches of beach I have been on, even when it is busy it 1/3rd the people of Cannon or Newport. Yachats and Waldport have some very good restaurants and well grocery stores. The Silver Surf is not far from Newport and Florence also. This is my second stay with my wife and family and it will not be our last. read more

Unassuming little motel right along the ocean on Hwy 101. Rooms are clean, tidy, include a kitchenette and the view is just spectacular. The pool is a nice size and hot tub is inside too. The office is quaint, and people very helpful. No formal type continental breakfast, but they do offer some tasty oatmeal and fruit you can take back to the room, just get it the night before because the office doesn't open until 8 or 9 am. We only stayed for a night, but I would definitely come back for a longer stay, esp. With kitchenette inside. read more

Raves: great management and staff, great ocean view and private balcony, pet friendly, wifi (reboot modem if it acts sluggish or stoos, satellite tv , free breackfast items, clean room, kitchenette, waterpik shower massage in bathroom, at night we heard bajillion frogs and the surf. very close to the beach, fire pit, barbeques, lawn toys, horse shoe pits. Rants: Pool and "jacuzzi" temps are inconsistant( one night perfect, the next night was very cold ). jacuzzi is horrible, half jets dont work at all, the rest not very strong. The pool's jacuzzi is very small. I would reccommend to owners to get a separate in ground jacuzzi spa like what the "the Breakers in Long beach has, that can seat more people, is hot, with strong jets for folks with arthritis. FYI Be careful coming and leaving the motel. Traffic is fast here so be extra wary. read more

You get what you pay for, and sometimes less. Weathered and cheap plastic patio chairs on the deck that could crack and break at any moment, dated everything, unsightly orange cones placed along the bottom of the motel where construction has been abandoned, and so much chlorine in the pool that you almost pass out from the fumes. Terribly overpriced menu that is mismatched to the motel. Do yourself a favor and try one of the many other beachside motels or rentals. read more

I used to stay here years ago when they had good owners. Not any more. We booked a room and then had a problem with the day so canceled it the very next day. Then they charged us $50 when we're not even staying there. Their rules are you have to cancel 7 days before. Well, when you've booked and cancel the next day, and it's 4 days before your stay and you don't have 7 days to cancel, you're screwed. The person on the phone was A jerk. Will NEVER stay there again. Putting ridiculous policies in effect is wrong. We used to live there. Don't waste your money. read more

THIS review is for the Bistro, not the motel as we are local. Awesome food and service. Prime Rib for $27 and about a full pound of meat! Tender and juicy! Hubby's halibut was about the same price and just as large and perfectly cooked. Sherbet was lovely! No signs, was taken there by other local friends or we would have never know about this little place. Reservations recommended. Mashed potato's were watery flavored, green beans were under cooked. read more

This review is for the bistro, not the motel. Bistro seats 14 and has a rustic cozy sea shore feel. Reservations are highly recommended. My wife had Baked Scallop Trottole which came in a 8" iron skillet. She said it was flavorful and very satisfying. She took half home. I had Beef Wellington, it was chunks of flat iron steak with a mushroom demi glacé wrapped in pastry. The pastry was a little mushy from sitting in the gravy for the mashed potatoes. Otherwise the flavor was very tasty. Both meals came with fresh salads of mixed greens & veggies topped with bay shrimp. Also it came with a soft sliced light & dark baguette. The Silver Surf Bistro is by word of mouth as they do not advertise. The menu varies week to week. Open Thursday to Saturday for dinner. We will definitely return and pass it along to our friends. read more

This is a QUIET oceanfront hotel. All the amenities of those big chain hotels but with a organic, quaint charm. There are upstairs and downstairs units and small cottages off to the side. We are currently staying in the Oceanview rooms. It comes with a small kitchenette, bathroom, king size bed, electronic fireplace and TV. I've been to many hotels throughout the western side of the US (WA, Oregon, CA, ID, AZ, NV & CO) and this, by far, has been the best place because of the quietness, comfort, peace and of course the absolutely stunning view and sounds of the ocean about 50 yards away. Definitely a favorite in my book and a gem. Worth every single penny!!! If you're looking for a quiet & a restful night sleep with the sounds of the ocean, please consider this hotel. I'm so glad I did and I'm honored to had celebrated my wedding anniversary in peace & quiet. Thank you! read more
