I've been coming here for years and the food has been solid however I was pretty disappointed that I was charged $3 for a piece of cheddar cheese for my $16 sandwich. Solid place! They did exactly, what they were supposed to do. They gave me a good beer, good service and good food. So after going to visit my sister in the city, she brings me and my family to this place. We all sit down and I order a drink off of the beer menu. It was very good and fresh. Next we ordered the burger and it was very well made, the meat was cooked perfectly and fries were very well done. The waitress was attentive and got all of our orders right! I have nothing bad to say about this place and I will def be back to try out more of their beers they have on their menu. Been here multiple times because I work in the area - they have a great HH! I'd recommend arriving right around when their happy hour starts because it gets packed after 6/630. I think it's from 5-8PM. They offer house wine for 5 bucks and certain beers (make sure to ask whether it's on special; we once had the server recommend something that wasn't on HH - glad we only stayed for 2 drinks) - might also be well drinks but I'm not sure. A little while ago, a group of coworkers and I decided to grab a bite to eat and enjoy happy hour together. Draught 55 was named and we reserved a table for 9. I arrived just before and enjoyed a glass of house wine for happy hour which extended to the sit down portion of our get together. The place was PACKED which can be expected on a Friday night in midtown. We were seated in the backroom which was mobbed. Unfortunately, our table was against the wall that people had hung their coats so the seats at the end were overhanging with huge winter jackets. Since it was a super crowded back room, it was very loud and dimly lit. I had no problems with that but it was harsh for some of the others in the group since they had wanted to catch up and we couldn't hear past the person directly next to us. The first thing I noticed about the menus was the extensive beer list. I love a place that you can sample different types of beer without heading to an expensive beer hall. I kept to the wine for happy hour but I will definitely return another day to sample the beers. Once we got drinks, I perused the food menu. I went in thinking that I would be a good person and order a salad. That quickly flew out the window once the table next to us got their burgers. They smelled delicious and clearly a salad would never, ever do. I got a cheddar burger with fries. It hit the spot and was very filling. I am glad I didn't get one of the specialty burgers because they are huge! I barely finished half of my meal but it was scooped up by my 4eva hungry boyfriend. I really enjoyed Draught 55. We made reservations at Draught 55 for a bachelor party -- about fifteen of us. The ambiance is heavy on the wood theme, which I personally like. We were seated at a long table, imagine a picnic table, with benches. I don't mind this style, other than the seats not having a back, but some do. Regardless, the service at Draught 55 was great. They offered a wide selection of beers and cocktails. Their food menu is heavy on pub food, also fine by me. I tried their disassembled chicken pot pie which really hit the spot. This is basically your typical "more than 3 people in a group" bar. I was only with one other person and we were seated at a "sharing" table with a group of 6 people. While it did not necessarily interrupt our personal interactions, it didn't feel relaxing or chill. The place was loud and full of large groups of people (kind of sounding like a sports bar) but it wasn't too inconvenient or anything. The food and drinks also weren't anything to brag about. Midtown East bars. I ventured out to them a lot when I was younger. Back then there weren't all these young obnoxious kids who drank awful beer and got way too wasted. Now I find myself surrounded by annoying post college age twenty year olds, not like me when I was fresh out.... Oh wait. Well it's not really my scene anymore. Once you find out what's actually a quality bar or good beer, it's hard to come back to that type of lifestyle. No, I don't enjoy being in an overly crowded environment in which I have to scream to talk to people, and be forced to engage in some primitive mating ritual where I have to impress my friends by finding a mate. Please kill me if I ever find myself in that type of place again. Luckily I found one watering hole in the Midtown East which is bearable. Now that may not sound like a great thing to say but trust me, it goes a long way. Came through on a Friday happy hour (the most crowded of them all) with a group of at least ten friends. Was it crowded? Yes. Can I breath though and not feel as if I was in a rush hour 4 subway car? Surprisingly yes. There was room. Room to even, hang our coats. It was magical. Now here's the best part. They actually engage in a real happy hour. Beers reduced at a price during the hours right after most people get out of work in midtown. How are more people not here? Never mind that. Let's keep it that way. I mean I like this place and want it to do well, but I still would like to not have some drunk moron keep bumping into me every 30 seconds. (I mean really, how does this guy not feel that. It's my back your elbow keeps jabbing!) it's $5 beers. And this isn't some gimmick where they end the happy hour at 6. And it's not a typical one where it ends at 7. This happy hour is the way God intended (I actually imagine heaven is an open bar 24/7, but you get my point), this happy hour is 5-8. So if you're in your late 20's or early 30's and desperately want to avoid younger versions of yourself, while enjoying a well priced long happy hour, and not having to some jerk's foot continuously step on yours (HOW DOES HE NOT NOTICE THAT?), then I think I've found your spot. read more

I find that Yelp is useful primarily two reasons - to find out about the patrons and the staff. Sure the food and beverage and decor reviews are somewhat helpful - but you like wine and I like beer. You like it loud and bright, I like it dark and quiet. You get my point. I went to a friends birthday at Draught 55 a couple last weekend and I (dutifully) read the reviews and it seemed like a relaxed vibe with a nice staff. I was excited to try some of their beers and the food looked good as well. As things happened, I much more out of my face than anticipated and since wifey somehow misheard 'Miller Lite' when I asked for an Abita Light, I kept the beers boring and traditional. I was not judged for either my beer selection, or my blatant inebriation. Which was a positive. I ordered the burger, with bacon, which was pricier than I would have liked - but clearly delicious. Where Draught 55 stood out was in the way, the next day, they handled my wife calling them to inquire about her misplaced jacket and iphone. They called us back right away, let us know they had it and would hold it. When we arrived to pick it up, the bartender declined a nominal monetary reward and instead told us to come back soon and have a few beers. These days (I can say that because I was born here) when so many other spots insist on treating their patrons as assholes with wallets and their should-die patrons don't know any better, its refreshing to come across an honest place that treats you well. Great beer list, incredible happy (that includes weekends too), and the fried pickles are insane. I could honestly end my review right there, but I won't. This place is straight up great. It's big enough for groups, but intimate enough for a date night. Service was spot on and the food was both delicious and well presented. They offer 5 draught beers for the $5 happy hour & they apparently rotate daily. Happy hour runs from 6-8 - so it's more than plenty of time to knock back a few without breaking the bank. But even if you decide to have a few more past 8 the prices are very good for a midtown east spot. Very much considering having my next birthday shindig at this spot, seeing as how the back room was massive and the perfect spot for groups. read more

The manager could not have been more wonderful, helpful, gracious, and accommodating. And she didn't hesitate for a moment when it was clear she needed to jump in and help serve. However, the room wasn't really ready for our arrival (only two of the six taps were ready...and one wasn't tested....so we really only had one option until they sorted that out), and they only had one bartender on staff, when they truly should have had two to more smoothly manage our initial ordering. Really solid bartender (who nailed the Long Island and Hendrick's Martini requests!), but she was clearly overwhelmed by our volume up front. Still, really nice, quaint backroom, which I'd consider renting with my own money for a gathering. Tremendous selection of quality beers. Good stock on the bar. Beef sliders were good...though not grand. More like big ole meatball sliders with a good sauce. A bit inconsistent, as some were moist, and others a bit dry. AWESOME wings! Loved the cauliflower dip, especially when it cooled down a bit and began to thicken. Soft pretzels are the bomb!!! Great honey mustard sauce! Course mustard grains, though still creamy. Delicious!! Mushroom puffs were solid. Chicken Satay was a huge group pass. We had an entire tray left untouched. I'm thinking they parboiled, then hit them on the grill to finish. They looked, and tasted, dry. Draught 55 has a really cool interior, with different levels and seating arrangements so you can probably find space for an intimate date chat, dinner with a few friends, or your dodgeball team post-game. Their beer selection is amazing, but the prices are not so much. Maybe I was just in a cheap mood, but there was nothing below $7. Meh. I kind of wish they would decide whether or not they're serious about waiter service at the tables though, because our waitress seemed really miffed that we were ordering from the bar or--heaven forbid--paying separately, but really when you're out for drinks, things will just be a lot easier if no one has to divvy up the check and calculate tip at the end. read more

This review applies to the bar experience alone - I can't comment on the food, just the beers and the bar service. Most of the time, you walk into a bar in Manhattan and expect it to be slammed with people on a weekend night, and that you won't be served right away. I was really happily surprised at the speed, efficiency, and accuracy of the staff handling our orders and the crowd during St. Patrick's Day weekend, and even though it was pretty much standing room only at the bar, our small group sidled up to a big ol' barrel and had plenty of space. We weren't jostled by other patrons or staff members moving to and fro, so that was nice. And while the atmosphere was certainly loud and lively like a Saturday night St. Paddy's Day weekend should be, it wasn't deafening, and we could still converse with one another without yelling. The beer selection was really quite remarkable, and I liked that they had plenty more beer both of draught and in the bottle, other than the "typical" stuff or just "Irish" stuff. Thankfully, I didn't see any green beer while there, and the big, heady Pils I enjoyed hit the spot after dinner. Prices were very reasonable and staff was helpful and friendly. Trying to find a place for a party of 10-12 that: 1) Has enough drink options for those that like cocktails and those that like a range of craft beer styles 2) Has enough food options for those that are gluten-free, vegetarian, etc and 3) Has enough space to sit and spread out without feeling guilty that you've taken over the entire establishment can be tough in Manhattan. Of course you know this, you're using Yelp to find reviews so you've likely had to do it before. Draught 55 delivered on all of these and then some. We had a reservation for a large farm table from 5PM-8PM on a Saturday, and it was such a pleasant experience. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable about the (extensive) drink lists, and made sure that no one had to wait too long for their next round. Between the dozen of us, we had a good cross-section of appetizers and entrees, and everything was met with two figurative thumbs up. The prices were reasonable, and they even have a Craft Beer Happy Hour from 8-9PM on Saturdays which is a nice bonus after a filling meal. Finally, the noise level was just right: low enough for conversations, loud enough that the people a few tables over couldn't hear every word. My cousin and I decided to check out Draught 55 and let me begin by saying this place did not disappoint. Happy hour is from 4-8. The ambiance is legit. Super live, cute, and cozy. I believe theres two bars available. Plenty of tables all around. I absolutely love the lights hanging from the ceiling and the barrels/stools scattered all around the place. The barrels (can be used as tables) are such a unique idea since Draught 55 offers a variety of beers. So...ALL OF THE BEER LOVERS out there I highly recommend you check out this place! Service is fantastic. The bartender Katherine was super nice and upbeat. Although me and my cousin stopped in for a quick appetizer and drink she still managed to make us feel welcomed. I've only ever had drinks here, but the food always smells really good. Their beer selection is really excellent and they're always rotating things on draft and doing events. The service is great and they have a basement and an enclosed back area. If you go during the week, avoid the after work hours because it does get crowded. Also, they have a lot of TVs so I'm sure when the football season starts, they will get packed on Sundays as well. They take reservations and have these really cool long tables for large parties. I used to come here before the new owners and I have to say the place looks great now. Large area with plenty of standing room. Was here with a friend and just wanted to have a drink or two. We were seated right away and the waitress gave menu's and asked what we wanted to drink. We placed a drink order and were not bothered the rest of the night. The music was not too loud and they had a couple of TV's with the games on. We were able to have a normal conversation without yelling. After a while we ordered the nachos and they were amazing!
