Gweedo's Comics - Wall covered with CGC books

Gweedo's Comics

Neat little newer store with a boatload of CGC graded books. The prices on these were about at…read moremarket value, which is great. The ungraded higher end books, however, were sort of scattered about the store, on various walls, or even stacked (unstoppable) in a glass case. The back room ha 25 or so long boxes to look through. A note on the prices of the raw books: WAY over market. I mean, astronomically so. Prime example, Daredevil #181 in NM is a $5-15 book all day. This store had it at $55. That's just one example. I've never Said to a store owner/employee "how on earth are you pricing these?!" But I did today. The owners wife? Was super sweet though, and took my complaining in stride. I bought all of two comics unfortunately, but I was looking to spend far far more. I would come back, if only to score a nice CGC book or three.

Kind of a dark store, on the smaller side and with some very odd hours, the selection of comics is…read moredecent and there is a lot of eclectic stuff in there as well, such as old video games. There is also a solid selection of action figures, including some older ones, so worth a look in that respect. Prices are also excellent, which gives it the push I was thinking from 3.5 stars, but this would be something I'd look into only occasionally, as it's debatable how worth the fight to get in during the limited hours is. For me, this will be something I'll check in maybe 2 or 3 times a year...

The entire time I was there, the store owners were yelling at each other and the woman would not stop cursing the man the entire time she walked around the store fixing stuff. After a while, I ended up finding a book that I wanted to give my niece when the woman came by, fixed some random book on the shelf behind me and said, "Don't touch the books if you aren't going to put them back correctly." Excuse me? I didn't even touch that book. I immediately put the book I was going to buy back and walked out the store. Incredibly rude to each other and their customers. Many shelves are bending and I wouldn't be surprised if they broke and books came crashing down on someone's head. Stay away from here!

The Utah Book & Magazine store is a trove of old treasures. There's a lot of history within it's…read moreshelves. The moment you enter, you're engulfed by the smell of old books - what would you expect! The store had a tremendous collection but it was hard to navigate or just browse. The store owner was very knowledgeable and is able to tell you where things are located, if you know what you're looking for (such as specific author and title). I didn't spend too much time in the store. I was just accompanying a friend who wanted to browse Downtown Salt Lake City. It's definitely a place to find unique trinkets/gift.
