    Salad...ok

One of the sad thing about being a food-loving parent to a picky eater is that you almost always have to settle for restaurants that are middle of the way....you know, the ones that offer something that your kids will eat and sometimes also offer something that you want to eat with decent quality. We stopped in for a late lunch around 2 p.m and we were served their dinner menu. Huh??? Who serves dinner menu at 2 o'clock in the afternoon? It's strictly because the dinner menu is always a few dollars more than the lunch menu but this was a little frustrating. We ordered a mish-mesh of stuff and some were good and some were not so good. You can see our comments on the pictures I posted. My favorite was the chicken teriyaki on a bed of veggies and rice. The teriyaki sauce was watery from all the veggies but the flavour was still decent. Our least favorite was the salmon pizza which we don't usually order. The crispy rice was borderline hard and did not make for good eating. We asked them not to drizzle anything on it but as you can see, they brought it out with drizzle of sauce and seeds. Will we return to Dragon Rolls? Maybe if we happen to be in the area again with no other pan-asian options.

Pretty decent sushi for AYCE and the lunch price. The lunch had ALOT of selection and the sushi was good quality too. The sesame chicken was great as well as most do their hot food. We didn't enjoy the tempura, we found it to be soggy even though there were only two other tables occupied in the restaurant at the time. Same with the chicken teriyaki...a little dry. Everything else was great. Service could use some improvement. The robot brought us out most of our food but we had to ask for our drinks twice and the restaurant was not busy. But overall, we would come back for lunch for sure!

    Salmon pizza

Absolutely horrible place to eat at. Service was god awful and inattentive. I had to ask multiple times to get a refill on my drink and only managed to get a refill as I was paying for the bill. The food was ok. The fish was fresh and didn't smell. The rice on our sushi was warm and the rice that came with our salmon teriyaki was a dry. The salmon teriyaki was overcooked and lacking sauce making EXTRA dry. Salmon pizza was ok. The slices were thick and the rice in it was kind of mushy. Very basic pizza. We also ordered assorted tempura which came with 4 shrimp and mixed veg. The shrimp tempura was nice and light but the veggies were really oily and slightly soggy. Think twice before you come here. The only decent thing about the meal was the spicy salmon and dynamite roll.

Ordered from here on Super Bowl Sunday and we were not disappointed! The sushi was super fresh -- we were very pleased with the variety, the price and the delivery time. The udon noodles weren't great (almost no taste) but everything else was delicious. We'll definitely order from here again. No question!

A great takeout experience! I tried this place out for the first time for a weekday lunch takeout during the pandemic. I ordered online and got a 10% off discount, then when I chose to pay with cash, I got an additional 5% off! When I went to got pick up my order, I noticed that the restaurant was super clean and the customer service was so lovely! The had made blockades of tables to help keep people safe, they had hand sanitizer easily available. When I gave the cash, they were very cautious and sprayed the money I gave and the change they gave back to me. So everything was so well sanitized. We ordered: Cheese Wontons (8pcs) Mango Cheese Roll ( unique to this restaurant ) Yam Tempura Rolls Spicy Salmon Rolls California Roll Overall the food was pretty tasty, and they were generous with the extra ginger & spicy mayo we requested. It was definitely a great experience and a good value for money.

Quite disappointed on my last take out order...think this will be the last time. Every piece of roll/sushi I had tasted "fishy" (not fresh)...it is unfortunate that the quality has gone considerably down hill I've the past handful of years. The only things that tasted okay were the miso soup and garden salad...Time to go elsewhere for sushi takeout!

Imagine ordering an almost 50$ tray of sushi and having to throw more than half of it.

Imagine ordering a 50$ tray for sushi and having to throw more than half of it. This is what happened here! the sushi tasted old and the avocado was not fresh. I called the restaurant to let them know and they said "there is nothing we can do about that because our sushi is always fresh!" There is no way this tray was made fresh! The rice was hard and stale and the taste was just not good. I had sushi from this restaurant before and this is the second bad experience! I'm definitely not going back there again! I wouldn't even give this place 1 star for the way they handle customers!

One of the big AYCE sushi places in Pickering but right now offering a la carte services because of the Covid impact on indoor dining. They have their own online ordering system that reminds me exactly of how a lot of sushi buffet places have them set up on ipads in restaurant. There were pictures for pretty much every item, a count of how many pieces came with it, and options to customize (whether you want ginger or wasabi, etc). They still have the gigantic AYCE menu to choose from so there's hot foods as well as all the normal fishy offerings. They had specials depending on how much you spent. We had an order total of $50 before taxes so we were able to choose a free appetizer. Choices were the fried scallops and spring rolls. We went with the scallops. We ordered a few rolls to share, 2 orders of salmon sashimi, and the coconut shrimp appetizer. The website said that each sashimi order came with 3 pieces but they actually gave us one extra piece for each per order! They were also superrr thick. There was a comment that one of their sashimi slices was pretty much twice the size at a lot of other places! They were also fresh and tender. The perfect combo. In terms of the rolls, they were a little messy looking. They all had little tails but they tasted good so that's all that really mattered. For the rolls with avocado, they did not hold back and giving huge pieces which was also appreciated. Lastly there is a 10% discount if you pay in cash. You can indicate when you order online that you would like to pay cash and it'll give you the total so you can prepare in advance.

Some pieces of the wontons weren't fried to completion. The spicy tuna tasted right out of the freezer and wasn't spicy. It was gross! Also got a stomach ache for 2+ days after eating here. I do not recommend ordering takeout from here. Edit: I emailed the business owners as per their reply below and no one emailed back.

The quality and seasoning of meat were great. The spicy shrimp was lovely. The miso salmon was nice and soft. The same clams were lacking a little flavour and there were no vermicelli. The fries, takoyaki, wings and cheesy corn were great. I was surprised to see takowasa. It was not bad but could use more of the crunchy veggies and more wasabi flavours. The bibimbap was meatless and could use more sauce but the rice and egg was perfect. They offered a good Melona variety. The creme brulee was ordered to torch and came in a legit ramekin but I wished the sugar crust was thicker. Great service and environment. I did find the seats a bit cramped especially when sharing the middle booth. We were reminded of the 1.5hr last call and 2hr seating limit a few times though. And also reminded that if we cannot finish the food that we should set it aside... Overall, happy to see a nice AYCE BBQ place make it further into Durham!

Afterwards, I drove around the plaza to figure out what businesses were there. I was happy to see Fuwa Fuwa Dessert Cafe. I had flagged coming here. Well, it took a gathering of three friends with me to visit this cafe last Thursday. I had only visited the Fuwa Fuwa location in Vaughan. This one in Pickering is special for a bunch of reasons. There was lots of parking at 6 pm on a Thursday evening that was threatening freezing rain. Luckily, we only got rain. Yay! I backed into a tight parking spot. The tight part was due to a snowbank that was in front of the row of parking. I threw out some garbage from my car into a receptacle near this business. I saw one of my friends in the cafe already. Another one said hi to me when I grabbed the door. Our third friend came in a few minutes later. We are a punctual group. It was nice. I looked at the desserts display that I was sitting next to. First, it's deadly to be that close to baked goods. Second, there was a lot of ube. This cafe has Filipino and Japanese influences in its menu offerings. It's cool to me! I had meant to get something with ube in it. I need to go back! We were here for dinner. Normally, you think of fluffy, giggly pancakes when you're at Fuwa Fuwa. This restaurant had a Japanese eats menu. We got the following Japanese combos: - Combo A for two people: - Teriyaki pork katsu rice - Chicken karaage curry - Two miso soups - Two cans of pop - Combo B for two people: - Udon noodle soup - Teriyaki chicken karaage - Two iced matcha lattes We shared the mains and soups family-style, so we could sample everything. Our mains and miso soups came out first. The drinks came out last. The teriyaki pork katsu on rice was yummy. The katsu was crispy on the outside and perfect inside. The rice was fluffy and had some green onions and furikake (dried seaweed flakes). One friend wanted more furikake on it. The rest of us were fine with what we got. I've been into Japanese curry for the longest time. This place made it well. The chicken karaage was crispy, as the curry was separate on the plate and so flavourful. We got rice. It had this sesame shredded cabbage as a side. It was yummy, but we all suggested that it needed red cabbage to add a colourful pop to the dish. We gave the most feedback on the miso soup. It was salty. I ended up taking water that I had filled a cup up at the station in the back and diluted my soup. It was less salty. The problem was that my water was cold and it made my soup cooler. The owner on the store apologized. We did a taste test between a batch of miso soup from yesterday that he had brought to our table versus the saltier one today. I tasted both. Yesterday's didn't have a strong miso flavour. Today's was too salty. I ended mixing the two. The miso flavour was perfect, but it was on the salty side. We got two cans of Coke zero. I can do Coke zero. One of my friends can't. We ended up trading one of the cans for regular Coke, which he likes. My can was cold. It didn't cause a sugar spike. All good. I also had one of the iced matcha lattes. I was thirsty from my miso soup. I loved it. It was cold. The matcha flavour was excellent. It was creamy from the milk in it. Three of us had the udon noodle soup. One of our friends can't have beef. The beef was thinly sliced and yummy. We all loved the chewiness of the udon. The broth wasn't overly salty. I liked it. The jammy egg was perfect. The green onions enhanced this dish. We got teriyaki chicken karaage. I love that it had kewpie mayo drizzled on top. The chicken was moist inside and crunchy on the outside. This dish came with rice and a runny fried egg. Delicious! We ordered a couple of jiggly pancakes: - Berry - Matcha It was my first time having the berry. It was excellent. I loved the berry compote poured all over the pancakes, which absorbed everything like a sponge. The pancakes were fluffy, jiggly, and delicious. I've had the matcha pancakes before. I loved the matcha sauce and the strawberry slices. It was nice having them again. I used the washroom before we called in a night. There are two single stalls. The one that I used was decent. I loved visited this cafe. It was nice spending time with friends over dinner and jiggly pancakes. I will return for the ube goodies! (115)
