Overall a good experience. The tempura is crispier and heavier than I'd like but the little details in the plating, ambiance, and service was great. The star of the show was definitely the fresh tuna and salmon! I'm not sure if I'd come back because it is pricier than our regular spots but the freshness of the fish is definitely notable!
Hadn't been to this sushi/Korean restaurant in a long while and decided to get a party tray for a gathering. There's a sign that says they're under new management. Service was on time and friendly. Food - unfortunately, the rice in the sushi was undercooked. There were crunchy uncooked pieces of rice throughout our sushi which really ruined the experience. The fish and toppings and sauce seemed good but uncooked rice really ruined it. Summary: may try again once things have stabilized.
Small restaurant in North York. The fish tasted fresh and delicious. Each sushi piece in the boat was crafted with care. The serving sizes were average but the quality was top notch. Also a shout out for the tea. We only got a pot of the basic green tea, but they had a few different green tea flavors which I am excited to try next time.
Under new management and I'm happy to see that the food and service are still great. The miso soup wasn't super salty like some other places. The tempura had a nice light and crispy batter. A good tell that the oil is fresh. The Kalbi was tasty. We saw lots of people ordering and picking up take out. All in all a good neighbourhood Japanese restaurant.
Was looking for a place to get a sushi platter this evening and stumbled upon Hamaru! We ordered a medium sashimi, sushi, and maki boat party tray (30 pcs sashimi and 30 pcs assorted nigiri sushi and maki). We were able to easily order on the phone and had a smooth pick up. Cash discount too! The tray had a nice assortment of sashimi and nigiri pieces. There was a tempura shrimp roll and california roll. I ordered a yam tempura roll on the side and the tempura stayed crispy until we ate (30 min later). One thing to note is the nigiri pieces have a dab of wasabi on the rice already (authentic!). Overall, I would come back here again for their platters and to try their bentos and other items on the menu.
What a neighborhood gem! Small little Japanese restaurant tucked away on a plaza off York mills. Love the interior with partitioned tables and rooms. Very cozy setting for quiet dinner with a few friends or large gatherings. The sushi quality is amazing. There are. The usual favorites sushi and rolls but they have higher grade sushi available as well. Tried the Deluxe sushi set and it was amazing!! Presentation was beautiful artfully prepared, Sashimi very good size and so fresh, each piece comes with the it's own accompaniment. Loved the hamachi roll. Also ordered the salmon teriyaki dinner and this is delicious and just the right blend of vegetables and accompaniments. We will definitely come back again!
After couple of months, last night we went there and found managment changed. We ordered but taste and quality was different and we didnt like that. They also forgot our order and start to prepare when we were ready tobpick it up so we wait there dubble time. Was totally different from last time, we wont order from Hamaru sushi anymore.
From the outside, this sushi place doesn't look like much. It looks like it'd be a pretty lowkey, takeout quality sushi restaurant. Once you get inside, you'd be surprised at how nice it actually is! Proper booth seating with a nice interior. There's plenty of choices available on their menu and the portions are quite generous for the price. I ordered the beef bulgogi bento dinner for lunch and it was enough to keep me full all day long. Everything in the Bento had amazing flavour and was very well cooked. Even the bowl of rice was good because it wasn't overcooked or dry. Parking at this restaurant is a little hard because it's a tiny place. There's parking in the back of the building available, but that's shared with a car garage so it's very tight and busy.
Unfortunately will never go back again. We used to be frequent customers before they changed hands but it had already been going south for some time. Seems they took a huge hit because of covid. They clearly were unable to source the same quality of ingredients and began slicing fish very thin and raised prices. Gone were the days of thick cuts of high quality fresh fish. Alas we found out they were under new management and so we were willing to give them a try again. However it looks like they are sourcing even cheaper older quality fish. We threw it out because it was such an unappetizing colour. We were concerned about getting food poisoning. The tuna looked like old meat. The rest of the platter was okay but they didn't include any hamachi and even salmon cuts were not good. For 80$ we felt very ripped off.
Came here for a family dinner on a Tuesday for 5:30pm, it wasn't busy at all, even when we were leaving, but we were able to get a nice big table as we had made reservations in advance. Be careful when coming here because the parking lot is really small and it's a bit difficult to get into since there is a lot of traffic and has only one entrance. There is some parking beside the building though. We got the sashimi and sushi boat which was $105.95 and served around 8 people. The food was okay, it wasn't high quality or anything, but it did satisfy that craving for sushi. It was pretty standard for the GTA. I'd say it was executed pretty well but didn't stand out as innovative or exceedingly good. If you like salmon sashimi, this place will definitely satisfy your craving!
Very delicious. The sashimi slices are thick and amazing ! Got the sashimi dinner combo with sushi and it was about $21. Fresh and quick to bring out. Lots of seating and great service. Couldn't even finish it!
The sushi was only borderline satisfactory. It was definitely nothing to write home about and the service made this place worse. The lady that served us had a lot of attitude and just made the entire experience unpleasant. Sushi was not that cheap either. It's just not really worth it to come to a sushi restaurant with very basic types of sushi rolls that don't taste that good (consist of too much rice), isn't that cheap and has poor customer service. I wouldn't recommend coming here, there are plenty of fish in the sea. Get it.
We headed to Hamaru Sushi at 4 p.m. for a really early dinner. The online ratings for this small Japanese restaurant at a strip plaza next to a CIBC were very high and thus worth checking out to fix a sushi craving. Not surprising as it was so early for dinner service (and late for lunch service), we were one of the only ones here when we walked in. We decided to order the small boat set which included 21 pieces of sashimi, 20 pieces of sushi, and 8 pieces of maki to share. I love ordering sushi boats because there's so much variety and the presentation is always pretty! First, we were served a small complimentary bowl of soup noodles (I believe it's called "SoMyun Soup"). I always enjoy these "noodle crunch soup" where the noodles are thin, the soup is umami, and there's little pieces of floating tempura bits which are soggy yet crunchy. There are many other restaurants that also serve this exact noodle soup appetizer complementarily before the meal. Not long after ordering, our small Sashimi Sushi and Maki Boat arrived! It was beautiful! There were various pieces of sashimi, sushi, and the maki roll was a Dynamite Roll. Yummy! The cuts of salmon sashimi were nice and thick -- exactly the way I like them. It's best to eat all the items sooner rather than later because the longer they sit in the boat and warm up to room temperature, the items don't taste half as good as when they're freshly brought out. The wasabi here wasn't too spicy and melted too easily into the soy sauce. We were stuffed by the end but we ended up finishing the entire boat of fish and rice (49 items in total!). At the end, we were given complimentary ice cream as well! There was a choice between vanilla or green tea ice cream. I chose the former while my friend chose the latter. This was a really great and solid Japanese restaurant for sushi and sashimi! The decor of Hamaru Sushi was also nice. It reminded me immediately of Osaka Sushi Japanese Restaurant in Markham where they also have tables in the middle of the restaurant with private rooms on both sides of the restaurant.

Caught up with a friend one day after work. Found this Japanese/Korean place in an unassuming strip plaza on Leslie south of 401. Cute place inside. I really liked the private booth we got. The menu was very extensive, almost overwhelming. We started off by sharing the ChapChae noodles. I thought it was pretty good, an elevated take on the classic. Although the portion size was quite small for the price $11.95 I landed on the Bulogi Beef Combination meal for myself, which was like a bento box served in individual plates. Although the price was on the higher end, i thought it was the best value on the menu. It came with soup, salad. 5pc sushi, bulogogi beef, tempura shrimps and veggies (slightly over). There was alot of variety and I appreciated the individual plates. Its a good spot if you are looking for a decent Japense/Korean food *3.5 read more
When my sister and I visit Toronto, we typically crave some Asian food, and even though I do not enjoy sushi (but my sister does), Hamaru Sushi has a bunch of different dishes and options that are not sushi or seafood. We have only been to Hamaru Sushi a few times, but it's in a convenient location (near the hotel where we stay), has great customer service, and tasty food. I certainly recommend Hamaru Sushi to others craving good Asian food (including sushi, of course). On each of our visits to Hamaru Sushi, we have ben seated in a small enclosed area (instead of in the general seating when you first walk into the restaurant. There is always a bottle of hand sanitizer and soy sauce waiting for you on the table. The decor feels authentic, and the servers always pay us plenty of attention to ensure we are having a positive experience. I typically order a kitchen set of teriyaki chicken which comes with pan fried mixed vegetables, miso soup, house salad, and steamed rice. My sister will typically order something similar that also includes some sushi as well. The chicken is so tender and with the teriyaki sauce and the vegetables, it's a healthy yet delicious meal. "Hamaru" meaning addictive in Japanese, which makes sense as we really enjoy this restaurant. It is open daily from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM with last call at 9 PM. They accept online orders via Uber Eats for delivery and also prepare pre-orders for pick-up. They also offer catering. With an exception of Fridays and Saturdays, you can call them to make a reservation. If you go to their website (https://www.hamarusushi.com), you can find their menu, place an online order, and read about Hamaru Sushi in the news. We look forward to returning to Hamaru Sushi on a future visit to Toronto! read more
Location 4/5 Right off Leslie, easy to get to but limited parking. Cozy restaurant with private booths. There is extra parking at the plaza beside. Service 4/5 The staff are attentive and great with attending to needs and providing recommendations. Food 4/5 We had the salmon sashi, salmon lunch combo as well as the dragon rolls. Good presentation and portion for the price point that is charged, they also have takeout. The miso soup is a bit over seasoned but was still refreshing. read more

I have been to Hamaru Sushi's original location at Yonge and Finch https://www.yelp.ca/biz/hamaru-sushi-toronto and glad that they reopened again. Lunch Special till 3 pm but sadly I just missed that by 5 minute or so. (They should have put that in their menu as of when it is offered) I ended up ordering a dinner combo of Sushi and Tempura ($19). The sushi was well made and shari rice was balanced. Sadly the shrimp tempura has this really thick and soggy batter that would have made this a 4 star experience. It is though a good value for the price. I will probably be back and have some of their sushi and just skip the tempura. Lunch does sound good for the perfect portion. read more
Very disappointing sushi and sashimi... I ordered a spicy roll (forgot the name of it) they soaked it with a lot of sauce and still not spicy... Just lots mayo .. the sashimi had a lot of tendons. I had to spit out some of them. I couldn't even finish their sashimi (I'm not a picky person and I usually finish all my food....) Service was good tho read more
This is my go to sushi place because it's closest to my house. They do offer take out, and if you pay in cash you get a 10% off your order. They have a wide selection on the menu. I love typically love either the chirashi or the haedupbup. Both are a mixture of chopped up sushi, except that the former is on a bed of rice while the latter is on salad and comes with a very spicy Korean sauce. The rice is always done nicely here, and the fish seems like pretty good quality for the price, so I would definitely recommend! read more

What I got: Spicy Maki Set ($16.95) Pros: - Lots of space on a weekday with options for more private dining in the booths. - Lots of menu options for Korean and Japanese food - Lunch combos that are pretty good for the price. - The bento and Katsu are quite large and should be filling. - 10% discount if you do takeout and pay by cash. Cons: - I took 1 star off because what I ordered wasn't consistent with the menu description, it should include 6 of the California roll but instead I got a single hand roll. I'm not sure if the in store menu has changed but this was based off the online menu. - my friends ordered a Chicken Donburi, which was a cheaper item that had more vegetables but got a more expensive Chicken Katsu instead. It was not a big issue as the Katsu was pretty large and delicious but had minimal vegetables. - Dinner was more on the expensive side for the taste but I would recommend this place more for lunch. read more

This not an Ayce, and not a high end sushi place. Don't expect cheap cheap sushi. This is well priced sushi for what you get. Got the small boat sashimi, sushi, and maki. The slices of fish is very generous. Pictures do not lie. The nigiri rice and fish combination is well balanced, where the rice is not too cold and hot which holds well. The roll wasn't out of the world or enormous but was exactly what the boat needed to compliment the meal. Also threw in some chutoro x3, which pretty much tasted like a otoro! Also got some BC uni on the side and I have to say it's better than getting it at taro's sushi. So fresh as if it was freshly scooped out. Don't know if we got lucky or not on this one. Only down side is the lack of staff working and the location isn't the greatest. read more
Been working in the area for years and I finally decided to try this place out one night. Place is very cute and cozy, with warm staff. I ordered for take-out which didn't take too long either, only about 10mins. Ordered their Black Dragon Roll which was a pretty good portion. Was alright but I definitely have had better. May be non-traditional for this place but I would have liked some spicy mayo or something. Even with just the soya sauce and wasabi, the flavour was a bit lacking. 2.5/5. read more
First time coming here because of a recommendation. I gotta say.. I was pretty disappointed. The menu lacked non-sushi items and everything was pretty expensive. After we ordered our meal sets (combos), the miso soups and garden salads came out quick. But then the rest took 30-40 min after that. Then when the food finally came, they forgot one person's entire order. But they didn't admit it, we saw them pointing at our table to the chefs from a distance. So another 15 min. Over an hour since we sat down. No apologies given. Then a friend joined later and got some sake. Their bill came up to $7 but wouldn't let him pay by credit card because the minimum is $10. I'm pretty sure this breaks credit card merchant contract. Also it's bad for return customers imo. read more

For Valentines weekend, we ordered the Sashimi, Sushi and Maki small combo platter from Hamaru Shushi on Leslie Street for take out (as its COVID - take out only for now). The platter was packed full of very fresh fish - lovely presentation and packed to the edges! Four of us enjoyed the varied selections and there was still some leftovers. Will for sure being going back again! read more
I came here twice on a recommendation from my close friend in the area and both occasions were foodgasmic. The star of the show here is the sashimi. I have tried the all sashimi party platters and sashimi sushi combination sets. The price has increased by a few dollars in the last two years, but it is still at a normative market cost. Plus, you get the freshest sashimi of diverse varieties here and the sashimi is on point! The presentation is aesthetically pleasing, particularly when you get the party platters in house. They have Korean dishes as well with flavourful kalbi to boot, so if you have friends who get tired of Japanese fare they have no reason not to go. Pro tip: If you want to try natto, give it a whirl here because they serve it in a salad style that balances the pungent flavour of the fermented beans with a surprisingly pleasant mixture of soy sauce, pickled radish, salmon, egg, and sesame seeds! read more
Came here with friends on a Sat at 1pm. Was about 30% full. Decor was modern with some cool private booths. Service was friendly but had to waive them down a few times to get their attention. I got the sashimi, sushi and Maki lunch combo $12.95. It also came with miso soup, mini spring roll, korean rice roll, ginger and salad. Portion size was good. Salmon had some a good amount of fat on it. Tuna tasted good too. Would be interested in going back. read more
My wife and I came here for dinner tonight. This place didn't disappoint again. Came in and ordered 2 Spicy Salmon Hand Roll and Small Sashimi and Sushi Boat (like last time). They brought us free soup to start. This time they've improved. Last time was a bit cold, but today was warm and tastes so good! It is seasoned very well. Then they brought out Grilled Salmon Cheek for us. Super nice of them. The Salmon Cheek cooked perfectly, it is fresh and tastes delicious! My wife loved it! Spicy Salmon Hand Roll came. We find there's more portion in the hand roll than Gonoe Sushi. We loved it!!! The star of the show is the boat. Very beautiful! The sushi chef decorated very nice and tastes wonderful! Fresh, fresh, fresh. The sashimi melts in your mouth and the sushi rice in my opinion is the best I ever had in my area. Way better than Sushi Kiku. This place is not stingy they don't slice the fish thinly. We also enjoyed their green tea ice cream. Yum! My wife and I had a great experience here again. So glad this is close by to my place. For only $10.95 I had a very satisfying California and dynamite lunch combo. It comes with salad, soup, 14 pieces and ends with a nice small bowl of fruit. The attention to detail for such an affordable lunch is impressive. You can see in the photo there is a lot of nice garnish and sauces that come with it. It's a very nice touch. Considering how much Longos around the corner charges for grocery store sushi this is an excellent deal. Service was good. I will definitely come back. read more

I know this restaurant usually gets high scores, but I have to give it 2 stars. The dining environment is pretty comfortable, but the food and service were not that good. My friends and I ordered a medium Sashimi tray for dinner (about 40 pieces). There were around 6 kinds of different fishes. However, we felt fish bones on 2 kinds of the fishes, and veins on the other 2 kinds of the fishes. Service was OK. But the server misplaced our order for desserts. When we asked for change, the server said she ordered another dessert for us, because the one we ordered originally was sold out. And they did not explain it to us in advance. Overall, it seems to me that this restaurant is not an authentic Japanese restaurant. I do not know whether I will go there again. read more

A late review after almost 2 months. Want Japanese food but not AYCE, so after searching Yelp, we found this restaurant in my neighbourhood. Restaurant located in a strip mall at Leslie/York Mills. We went there on weekday around 8pm and there were only 2 tables. Servers are very friendly. Hubby and I shared a small sashimi & sushi boat that comes with miso soups, noodles and salads. Sashimi very fresh. Also we got a salmon head on the house. I think the small sashimi & sushi boat is around $50. Reasonable price and good place to have Japanese food. ********************************************************************************************************************** 2nd review Been here again last Wednesday and this time I ordered an eel with rice bento box and hubby had sashimi & sushi dinner. Like last time both meals taste yummy and the batter for the tempura is quite good. Love this restaurant! read more

Ordered take out and not really happy with what I received. I ordered the Diablo roll and it said on the menu that it was made with Jalapeño peppers. When I brought it home, the roll had pickled banana pepper instead. Such a weird taste, never had sour sushi before. Definitely do not recommend coming here. No restaurant should lie about the ingredients in their food, if you don't have the ingredient, take it off the menu. read more
