I happened to be killing time waiting at the UPS store next door when I decided to go ahead and use the QR code in the window to order off the menu. The auto-generated text told me the food would be ready in about 20 minutes. I ran a couple of errands and came back about 30 minutes later. I was surprised that I never received a follow-up confirmation that the order was ready to go, but it was there waiting for me just the same. The food itself was pretty standard takeout Chinese food. There wasn't enough sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour chicken, but it was filling in the way that all Chinese food is--you stuff yourself silly and then are hungry again within the hour. Five years later, my former review stands; solid Chinese takeout with all the favorites, cooked quickly to order (faster than I could drive over to pick it up). The kung po shrimp had surprisingly large and succulent shrimp. It's not particularly spicy at the default level, so if you like a hot pepper kick you probably need to ask for it. I would do 3.5 if that was an option. I ordered take out through uber. Delivery was prompt and the food was hot. The spring rolls were very good. The hot and sour soup was the second best I've had in New Orleans (Xian Din is the best). There were some chewy bits in there, maybe galangal root? Otherwise it was super delicious, light, spicy, and filled with mushrooms. The Sezchuan tofu and veggies were on point. Sweet, spicy, and perfectly cooked--including the tofu, which is often too mealy. I would order all the above items again. However, the fried rice and lo mein were somewhere between passable and bad. The fried rice was yellow, like Mexican rice. It had canned peas and carrots in it and was basically flavorless. The veggie lo mein only had pea pods and no other veggies. I am so confused by the 5 star reviews. Read my very honest review below. I ordered through DoorDash. Food came piping hot, on time, and I was excited to eat. I ordered the following to share with my children and family: mandarin chicken, egg rolls, beef with broccoli, egg drop soup, steamed rice, crab rangoon, and shrimp fried rice. did not receive white rice as requested but they gave me chicken fried rice and it tasted like soap. The rice was dry and the dish had no flavor (other than soap). the egg drop soup had a good amount of egg but again flavorless the mandarin chicken did not have a good flavor. I could tell it was mostly dark meat flattened and fried. The sauce that came with it was not pleasant. beef with broccoli was questionable flavor. Perhaps by this time of trying the food my palate was already turned off by everything. Broccoli was ok and still had some crunch which is appreciated but the sauce and dish collectively did not have a good flavor. I know great Chinese food. egg rolls also horribly tasting. It tasted like it was previously over frozen and then fried. the only decent and edible part of my order was the crab rangoon. It wasn't that great but at least edible. The almost $60 worth of food went right to the garbage. I would not serve it to my children or husband or even the community fridge. No human should be served this subpar food. Americanized Chinese Mall food tastes better than this. The food being served at this establishment is NOT CHINESE FOOD. Please review your ingredients and business practices. Most authentic Chinese food I have found here in New Orleans. Granted, we only ordered three dishes verses the 7 or so...but was a bit wary trying a hole in the wall that I had seen for years in this strip mall. I called and ordered and by the time I drove from Costco to the spot, food was ready and packed. So it was quick. Ordered: Bbq boneless spare ribs Mei fun - Singapore Noodles general tso chicken Boneless spare ribs were lean, tender and tasty!! Real rich flavor of Chinese Bbq! Threw some on the white rice that accompanied the General Tao's chicken and was perfect!! This Tso's chicken came with Broccoli automatically and I didn't have to request it to be added to the order. It flavor wa a standard General Tso - pleasantly surprising that it was just plain good. Breading and sauce was up to par!! The Mei Fun was the best...not too much curry flavor - had onions and different meats. Comparable to the many Mei Fun we have had in NY city. I can see this spot possibly being hit or miss...possibly issue with delivery through Uber etc. The owner (I think) was courteous and very appreciative of the tip. I bowed back to him as he graciously thanked me. I didn't get a chance to see who was cooking in the kitchen As I always try to pay attention. We will be back and plan to try the Szechuan beef and not sure what else. True "hole in the wall" gem in the uptown hood. Hope the next visit is as excellent as the first. read more

Honestly, not the biggest fan of fast food Chinese, but this place was so good! The general tso is very tasty. I'm not the biggest fan of Lo Mein, but the one here is yum! The staff are really nice and accommodating. With covid, the dining area is currently closed, but take out is lit. Look at the pictures, the portion sizes are huge and very affordable! This place recently became available on Uber Eats, much to my delight, as I have always wanted to try it but have been too lazy to go pick it up. In my opinion, this place is leaps and bounds better than any Chinese delivery restaurant in NOLA, at least for what I like to order. Very basic: Egg drop soup, General's Chicken, egg rolls. I also tried the sesame noodles, which were not at all what I was expecting (they were served warm, a satay type sauce) but were delicious! It's safe to say I have found my new go-to Chinese delivery place. (I love Blue Giant, but they stopped doing both take out and delivery.) This place is just terrible. I ordered via Postmates for delivery to my hotel on a recent trip to New Orleans. I called the restaurant to make sure they added utensils to the bag (because I'm in a hotel)...they repeated my request back to me on the phone, said "I got you." No utensils in my bag. I ordered: Mapo tofu. Does not taste like mapo tofu. Tofu is semi-cold and "sauce" is really a liquidy broth. I couldn't eat more than a bite, it was terrible. Pork fried rice. Oh...no no. Rice is so old and stale. Hot and sour soup was slightly below average, but edible. However, the crunchy strips that came with the soup- SO hard and stale. This is my go-to American Chinese spot. They do have some really good offers (we often get the family meals). I don't know about the no MSG, because the last time I had Dragon King I was thirsty the whole night and had to keep gulping water, but maybe there was just a lot of salt... Who knows. I usually call in and pick up my order since I live so close by. The food is always hot and ready when I get there. I also love the way they pack the take out. Neatly packed in completely sealable containers rather than in styrofoam to-go boxes. I have yet to try them during lunch but they have great deals so I just might have to! read more

Among the many Chinese take out options in the uptown/Claiborne/Broadmoor area Dragon King stands out. The other two options -- Green Tea & China Wall -- are both great in their own way. All these restaurants have always had my takeout order ready within the 10 to 15 minutes it takes for me to arrive, the menus are standard Chinese fare, the quality is good and the pricing varies slight at each restaurant. But Dragon King is good about giving you larger portions of Shrimp, beef or chicken with your entree's--the size of their Shrimp in their dinner offerings such as Garlic Shrimp is bigger and of greater quantity than what you would receive at the other take out restaurants. So if you LOVE shrimp and Chinese food I recommend Dragon King for takeout in the Uptown/Broadmoor area! read more

Since we live nearby and wind up ordering from Dragon King about 4x a year, I wanted to say "Love It" but had to be honest with myself. The food is pretty much all-brown, the way cheap Chinese often is. Yes, they make everything to order, and it ready incredibly fast for a decent price. But that's pretty much where things end. The owner/manager/staff could really not give a flying eff whether you and your friends ever come back again. That's how un-welcoming they seem at the window, anyway. I'm sure they're nice people, but don't try striking up a conversation unless you speak fluent Mandarin. As for the food, it's "meh". College kids will dig it, sure, and the lunch special is a fairly good deal. Lots of dishes to choose from, but don't expect them to bring back the real crowd-pleasers like coconut shrimp that they deleted years ago (but still show on the menu, maddeningly). After you've taken out from Dragon King a few times, you begin to realize that all their sauces taste the same (sugary, salty, thick), the rice is boring, and the soup is pungent but not in an inviting way. Here's the kicker for me and my partner: EVERY TIME WE EAT THEIR FOOD, WE GET BAD HEADACHES AND SLEEP POORLY. Every. Single. Time. (I don't want to be an MSG accuser, but is it something they add? I have a love/hate relationship with this place. The Hate: They don't deliver. The dine in area is a bit too sterile - its mostly a take out place. The Love: The take out is good, but the dine in food is better. Not just because its fresher and hotter, but the portions are bigger too. Dragon King just opened up a couple of weeks ago in the shopping center on Claiborne (the one with the Blockbuster). Just ate there last night and the food was very good. We got the family dinner special which included a quart of soup (egg drop or won ton soup), two eggroll/or spring roll, pint of pork fried rice and choice of two items off the family menu (33 choices)!..The price is $21 for a lot of food!! Got the won ton soup and it was very flavorful. We got an egg roll and a spring roll to see which we liked better...I preferred the spring roll. For our entrees we ordered the Szechuan Pork and the Hunan Pork...both were very flavorful and not overly spicy...but I'm sure they could kick up the spice a notch if you prefer. This place was very good, the staff was super friendly...and I highly recommend you go check it out for a new Chinese option in the Claiborne University neighborhood!! read more

These guys are excellent and deserve 10 stars. I had gotten off of work late, was exhausted, didn't feel good, and really just wanted something quick to eat with leftovers so I didn't have to worry about making lunch for tomorrow. It was 16 minutes before they closed so I called to see if it was too late to place a delivery order, expecting them to say it wasn't possible, but these angels accepted the order! I got there in under 10 minutes and they were super polite and courteous even though I was definitely inconveniencing them and these guys are honestly just such angels and I'm super grateful. The food was hot, fresh, large portions, and definitely made my long stressful day a million times better, so THANK YOU SO MUCH (and everyone go to this place because they are wonderful). I highly recommend the family dinners because you get a ton of food and it can last several meals! Their sweet and sour chicken is delicious (and served with sauce on side which is my favorite), and it just smells so good. Food: You can purchase here what you might find at any typical Chinese-American style restaurant, from soups, to eggrolls, to General Tso's chicken, and everything in between. Saying similar to Chinese kitchen is an insult to the Carrollton eatery, and a farce! I would file a lawsuit for defamation.
