Hoshun for a happy hour win. I was in the mood for some egg drop soup and I really enjoy Hoshun's especially the crunchies they really set it off when they're fresh. To my surprise I caught the happy hour where the roads were only 4.50. now the soup isn't on happy hour but it's very affordable at $6 and you get a big portion. We ordered the salmon roll and the shrimp and avocado roll both delicious and made the order of course. We were seated fast and the server is very informative and letting us know there was only 10 minutes left for happy hour and gave us the menu so we didn't miss it. Hoshun Restaurant is conveniently located near my hotel so I decided to order to-go and dine in my room. The restaurant itself appears to be a modern and well-maintained facility. I was warmly greeted as I entered and asked for a menu. The menu offerings are primarily from different East Asian cuisines and is quite diverse. I ordered the Five-pepper Calamari and Hoshun Fried Rice with Crawfish. The cashier took my order and informed me it would take 15 minutes to be ready. I sat in the waiting area for a short moment, and soon my order was ready, which I took back to my room. The order was well-packaged, using quality plastic take-out containers and utensils. The Five-pepper Calamari was wonderful, perfectly fried and then stir-fried with onions, black pepper, green peppers, and red peppers. It came with a dipping sauce which I presume had chili pepper and another one to total five. Overall it was excellent. The Hoshun Fried Rice with crawfish was also wonderful, and is of better quality than that of a typical Americanized Chinese takeout, with a generous amount of crawfish tails in it. In sum, I really enjoyed my in-room dining with takeout from Hoshun Restaurant, and will certainly come back the next time I am in the area! read more

Stopped here after a concert at the Smoothie King Center. It was a Thursday and they were open until 12:30am. My friend and I arrived a little after midnight. They did not rush us or give us the cold shoulder because they would be closing soon. We were seated immediately and given menus. They are one of my late night go tos. I love the plum duck dish, my go to meal here. I placed my order and the bartender / server tells me that he thinks they are out of it so he'll check then come back and let me know but-start considering another dish. He took my two friends orders then turns to me and says "actually i KNOW we are out of it." I asked how because he hadn't left us yet to verify with the kitchen. He got very matter of fact about it so i walked to the front and bumped into a chef in a blue coat and asked him. He assured me they were NOT out of the dish. So i was annoyed. But our meals were good. Loved my lunch at Hoshun! Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and were able to choose our table. Our waiter brought menus and took our drink order right away. I loved that there was a TV nearby with scrolling images of some of their most popular menu items, as it definitely helped us make some food decisions. We ordered edamame, tuna tataki, a Metairie roll and a Haiku roll. Everything was delicious!! The tuna tataki was so fresh and had a nice kick. The rolls were equally fresh and the Haiku roll was bomb. The service was outstanding, the restaurant is lovely and is in a really great spot on Magazine. CW: Food contamination and homophobia I just want to say our server Kat was awesome. The management and kitchen were awful. We ordered all our entrees and appetizers together. The kitchen brought our friend's entree within 5 minutes. This was incredibly awkward, we didn't receive our other entrees or appetizers yet. He waited to eat his food with us and it was ice cold by the time our food arrived. We all work in the service industry, all of us manage different restaurants across the city. I totally get that most of the time mistakes arent the fault of the front of house. We brought it to the bartenders attention that this wasn't cool. We also let her know that we weren't mad at her, the kitchen shouldn't have done that. She was awesome, corrected the situation and we started to eat. While we were eating, a roach crawled into our friends napkin. Eek! This meal got off to a weird start and my friend calmly looked for the manager. He told the manager about it, trying not to cause a scene. The next thing we knew, the manager was telling us that he comped our bill but that we needed to "get the f**k out of there". I put down a nice cash tip for the h Awesome bartender and checked to make sure the manager didn't skim anything off her tip. Our friend who confronted the manager is gay. I've brought several gay friends in there who have felt weird and been eyed up and down in a really crappy way by this particular person. We left, and the manager proceeded to follow us outside and tell us we were uncivilized. Our gay friend who already felt judged, felt incredibly insulted and hated by this comment. It was a very triggering thing and was incredibly hurtful and insulting to hear. I've been going here for 13 years. I've loved this place but it's just gotten worse and more unwelcoming. I went here on Friday 3/31/23 for some takeout. I ordered combination fried rice with shrimp, chicken, & pork. I ordered lo mein with beef, along with general Tso chicken, & sweet and sour chicken. My order was $63 total. The only thing that was good was the combination fried rice. The general Tso chicken was horrible. The sauce was light and runny on top of dry white chicken. The sweet and sour chicken was horrible too. Wrong sauce wrong everything. The lo mein would've been good if it didn't have an after taste of old cooking oil that it probably was sautéed in. The Salt & Pepper Shrimp comes with sautéed veggies and white rice. Always add extra veggies!!! I also like to drizzle some sweet chili sauce on my shrimp and add a bit of hot mustard.
