Egg drop soup , salmon roll and shrimp and avocado roll
    J B.

Hoshun for a happy hour win. I was in the mood for some egg drop soup and I really enjoy Hoshun's especially the crunchies they really set it off when they're fresh. To my surprise I caught the happy hour where the roads were only 4.50. now the soup isn't on happy hour but it's very affordable at $6 and you get a big portion. We ordered the salmon roll and the shrimp and avocado roll both delicious and made the order of course. We were seated fast and the server is very informative and letting us know there was only 10 minutes left for happy hour and gave us the menu so we didn't miss it. The ambiance is very casual and this is a spot I routinely visit especially late at night and I recommend you do too

Great late night food spot with more options than other places open this late (especially week nights.). The wonton soup was actually so good. I might just come back here solely for that dish lol the little wonton crispies were so yummy! Also a great portion size. Service wasn't outstanding but not bad at all very attentive and I never felt like I was waiting on him to come back, but it wasn't like he was annoying. If that makes sense. The only thing I didn't like very much was the general TSO's chicken.. not crispy enough for me but some people like different things. We also got the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer and I wish they use fresh jalapeños on top instead of whatever this chopped sauce is. I do wish it was a little more spicy, but I guess it didn't really specify that it would be spicy. All in all I will be coming back here and can't wait to try other things. We also got the lo mein and it was really good. Also, good portion size.

The food was horrible this time around. Whatever grease the chicken wings were fried in need to be reconsidered. The seaweed used to wrap the California roll and spicy crawfish roll was rubbery, the meat in the Singapore noodles was rubbery as well. I didn't even bother to take a pic of the rolls. I just really didn't enjoy my meal this time around. The waiter was pretty cool. The ambiance was quiet but nice.

I recently went to Hoshun late on a Thursday evening with some friends after a work event. It was very busy so we were quickly seated and greeted by our waitress Shannon. She was fun and upbeat. My appetite wasn't huge so I shared Dragon roll and hot and sour soup with my friend. He ended up ordering the sashimi salad as well. Everything tasted great. We were there longer than expected and basically closed the restaurant but no one kicked us out. Overall decent dining experience. I could see myself here for late night eats again.

It's a nice cozy place for dinner, with good food and drinks option. The service was quick and efficient and our server was very kind and attentive. We had the lychee sake and plum sake bottles, and lychee came out on top taste and flavor wise. The appetizers were nice and on point. We tried egg rolls, seafood rolls, j-pop. The fried rice was well made and spicy per request. Overall a good place for a relaxed dinner

We tried to go the taco place across the street and it was waaay too busy so we popped in here instead. The spicy edamame was my favorite part of the meal. I had a sushi box with salmon and it was like eating a sushi sandwich. Overall not my favorite meal.

Tempura is old tasting and not fresh. Chewy. Spicy mayo has a funky cheap taste. Even the ginger looks like it's been sitting out. I do not recommend this place!

I came for the sushi, I stayed for the sake. The food is amazing, fresh and speedy. The service is the best. Servers are super attentive and the glass never goes half full (stay +). The ambiance is very casual/dressy. Laid back enough to watch a basketball game but fancy enough to bring a date. Sushi is very nice and the warm sake is the best for Christmas time.

Five-pepper calamari and Hoshun fried rice with crawfish.

Hoshun Restaurant is conveniently located near my hotel so I decided to order to-go and dine in my room. The restaurant itself appears to be a modern and well-maintained facility. I was warmly greeted as I entered and asked for a menu. The menu offerings are primarily from different East Asian cuisines and is quite diverse. I ordered the Five-pepper Calamari and Hoshun Fried Rice with Crawfish. The cashier took my order and informed me it would take 15 minutes to be ready. I sat in the waiting area for a short moment, and soon my order was ready, which I took back to my room. The order was well-packaged, using quality plastic take-out containers and utensils. The Five-pepper Calamari was wonderful, perfectly fried and then stir-fried with onions, black pepper, green peppers, and red peppers. It came with a dipping sauce which I presume had chili pepper and another one to total five. Overall it was excellent. The Hoshun Fried Rice with crawfish was also wonderful, and is of better quality than that of a typical Americanized Chinese takeout, with a generous amount of crawfish tails in it. In sum, I really enjoyed my in-room dining with takeout from Hoshun Restaurant, and will certainly come back the next time I am in the area!

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. I placed my takeout order on site at the counter, but they have table service.

I have worked in China on and off for years and have eaten many varieties of hot pot in China and Taiwan. This one was ridiculously bad. Like they dont even know what hot pot is. The sweet waiter tried to explain the concept of hot pot, but it was clear that he was not familiar with the real thing. It was cubes of chicken, celery, tomatoes and peppers in a lukewarm broth. Took forever to get hot enough to cook our extra vegies. The vegies didn't look fresh. There were no a la cart sauces. The waiter pointed to the soy sauce and chili oil that were for dumplings and told us that sauce doesn't go with hot pot. My advice is to go to the other Dian Xin where there is no hot pot but the food tastes authentic.

This week I wanted to visit spots successfully catering to locals and stumbled upon this tiny neighborhood hidden gem. Hidden because one would have easily missed it repeatedly when driving (or walking) past since the whole exterior was so unassuming at first glance. It only showed up on my radar when I meticulously searched for seafood spots on different platforms and randomly stumbled on their Facebook page. Best boiled crawfish and shrimp it said. Always fresh it exclaimed. Decently priced it stated. Well, this I had to go see it for myself and put to test. This was obviously a detour from my planned R&D in NOLA but was definitely a spot that must be designed for locals (and random tourists like me). This was confirmed immediately when I stepped in to see a long line of construction workers from the nearby site picking up lunch and some young kids digging into bags of shrimp and crawfish in utter delight. While looking at their sharpie streaked menu, I noticed quite a number of customers striking up conversations with the lady behind the plexiglass like long lost friends as they too picked up food to-go. Yeah, definitely a local friendly spot. Shrimp and crawfish by the pound was CHEAP in comparison to all the places in the area I've been. The best part? After getting back to the AirBnB, I realized just how good and fresh the seafood was! Succulent, very well seasoned, and not severely overcooked (like some spots around here prefer to serve it). I could taste the spices and aromatic vegetables used in the boil and found each bite absolutely tonguegasmic. Came for a pre-lunch snack and now back for a pre-dinner snack. Both the lady and gentleman had a smirk and muffled giggle as they saw me again. "You like it?" No, I love it. I'm here for a week and I'll be back every day you're open until I fly out of here. Take my money and give me thy awesome shrimp!

A quick Yelp…read moreand Google check showed great reviews, and even though the photos looked pretty simple, we decided to give it a try. Sometimes that's just how travel works and you cross paths with unexpected gems. The owner and his family couldn't have been nicer. This place has been around for over 30 years, a mix of convenience store and local eatery. The owner, an older Asian gentleman, warmly asked me and my husband where we were from as soon as he saw us. We think maybe because there aren't many Asian in the neighborhood and it instantly felt welcoming and we started to chitchat. His son was helping in the kitchen that day, and the guy taking our order (super friendly, too!) turned out to be his son-in-law, just stopping by on his day off. This place is small but we could tell most of the steady stream of takeout customers were regulars. We ordered about $50 worth of food: * C2 Fried Chicken (10 pcs) - $11.99 * P6 Shrimp Po'boy (12") - $5.99 * P8 Catfish Po'boy (12") - $7.99 * R5 Cajun Gumbo - $8.99 * Two cans of drinks It felt special that on our very first day in New Orleans, we got to try two of the city's most iconic dishes: Gumbo and Po'boys right here in this humble neighborhood spot. The fried chicken was super crispy, the Po'boys were packed with filling, and the gumbo was flavorful without being overly salty. We couldn't finish it all, so the leftovers became our breakfast the next morning. The shop itself is nothing fancy, just two folding tables and a few chairs but the food and the warmth of the people made it one of those memorable stops that really stick with us. We actually came back on our last day in New Orleans and wanted to try the Yak-Ka-Mein Soup which was recommended by the owner but it was closed on Memorial Day:( I guess we will save it for our next visit. If you ever find yourself in the area, I'd highly recommend trying their food. T&T Seafood & Po-Boys 548 Jackson Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130
