The owner and staff here are AWESOME. The service was honestly some of the best I've had, and everyone was so friendly that it felt like being around longtime friends. The food is delicious, and you really can't skip the salmon or the chicken for your protein. Make sure to try the potatoes and the penne pasta at least once, especially with the jalapeño garlic sauce. Everything was absolutely delicious. Between the great food, welcoming atmosphere, and genuinely kind people, this place really stands out. The prices are super reasonable for the portions and quality, and I would definitely come back again and again and again and again!
Dr. Grubb's is located in the Claremont Village. Parking can be a challenge. Small parking lot behind the restaurant shared with other businesses. On that Friday night, I ended up parking at the nearby Bank of America lot where everybody else was parking. Wowza, Dr. Grubb's is one hot and healthy grab-n-go and/or sit-n-chill restaurant to eat at on any given day of the week! Lots of inside bench style and bar stool seatings plus romantic patio seating. Self-serve fountain drink station with tea options. You grab your own utensils and condiments. I love the self-service concept! Menu offers a well balanced variety of proteins such as chicken, salmon, shrimp, steak, and tofu along with solid good sides in rice, veggies, pasta, and salad plus a unique blend of sauces of your choice. You may get them in combo or a la carte style. Cool beans! Blackened salmon with baby potatoes and vegetable medley was personally recommended by the owner, Hader. He was super friendly and very hospitable. His overall staff was exceptional, too. Thank you sir for the amazing meal + drink! The entire plate did not disappoint. Huge thin slab of flaky, tender, and moist blackened salmon on top of the best two sides... perfectly steamed sweet veggies featuring zucchini, carrots, green beans, baby corn, and broccoli and well seasoned roasted baby potatoes with fresh herbs and spices. Tasted so good! I wanted more of it. Highly recommend! I couldn't help myself and ordered one more blackened salmon plate with vegetable medley and penne pasta to-go. My eldest daughter loved it! Can't wait to return to Dr. Grubb's for more yummy and delicious grub. See you at Dr. Grubb's!
Updating my review from about 2 years ago -- and happy to say Dr. Grubb's in Claremont is still delivering great food and even better service. The concept is simple: build your own plate with fresh proteins, bases, and sauces -- but the quality and care they put into everything really stands out. I went with grilled chicken over a mix of pasta and potatoes, and everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-seasoned. They offer plenty of protein options like chicken, shrimp, salmon, and more, along with different bases and sauces so you can customize your meal exactly how you want it. The restaurant itself is very clean, modern, and comfortable with a nice bar area. You order at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. What really stood out this visit was the hospitality. Sheila went above and beyond with her kindness and service. I arrived about 15 minutes before closing and felt bad, but she was incredibly welcoming, patient, and insisted I stay and enjoy my meal without feeling rushed at all. That level of customer service genuinely leaves an impression. Really glad I decided to come back and update my experience -- this place is still doing things right.
At a recent Yelp event, we had Dr. Grubbs catering. We were offered a complimentary meal from the manager at the event, so my friend and I recently came by to redeem our meal after a long morning hike. We found the restaurant pretty easily, but parking is another issue. I guess it doesn't help that we came on a Sunday when we were competing with patrons of the Claremont farmers market down the street. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating indoors and out. The menu is pretty simple: pick a protein, a side (or 1/2 and 1/2) and a house made sauce. I LOVE that the prices were fair and portions were good - I'm sure the local college kids appreciate that too. They also offer a variety of beer and wine. Self serve fountain drinks are available for purchase or with a meal. My friend got the grilled shrimp with vegetables and penne pasta, and I got the blackened shrimp with vegetables and brown rice. I got the jalapeño garlic sauce with my meal. The shrimp arrives with 6 shrimp on a skewer. The staff was kind enough to offer us samples of different sauces to try (Lemon Thyme Vinaigrette, Lemon Garlic, Garlic Apple Aioli, and Jalapeño Garlic), but I have to say that jalapeño garlic is still my favorite! The food is really good, and honestly tastes very fresh and home made - like something I make in my own kitchen. Service was super friendly, they were quick to come by and wipe down a table for us, and various staff came by a few times to check on us. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!
After tasting their delicious food at an Elite Yelp event, I knew I had to come to the restaurant to try their other food. We ordered the Meyer's Flat Iron Steak, the Fire Grilled Shrimp, and the Blackened Chicken. All were so delicious! Everything was cooked to perfection. It was a bit of a wait for our foods, but it was worth it. They were a bit busy the night we came for dinner. But the staffs were very friendly and that made up for it. You order the food at the front counter and they bring the food to your table. They have a bar seating. Several tables inside. They also have a nice outdoor seating with heaters for the cold nights. The restaurant is nice and clean. Will definitely come back again. Next time, I'm going to try their Asian Salad. Looks yummy.
We came by to redeem a voucher we were given by the owner from a previous Yelp Event. It was for a free entrees of choice. The location is in heart of the downtown Claremont. We found some parking in the back of the restaurant. The restaurant is lively and energetic. There's bar seating and a lot of tables. We opted for the blackened shrimp and the blackened salmon. We also ordered extra items to help support the business. The plates of food are generously portioned. Their food is specialized in healthy eating. I appreciated the grill marks on the shrimp. The proteins, veggies and rice were all cooked and seasoned well. For a healthy dish, this wasn't bland. They offer sauces that complement the dishes as well. Although the blackened shrimp was good, I found myself wanting to reach over and eat more my husband's Blackened Salmon dish. I recommended Dr. Grubb's and I'd come by again to pay full price an another plate of food.
Dr.Grubb's is such a good healthy option in Downtown Claremont. Its mostly a build-your-own plate situation where you choose protein, sides, and sauces, however they have standard menu items as well. They also cater! This trip my mom and I built our own plates - one with blackened chicken, penne pasta, and broccoli and one with steak, potatoes, and broccoli. The food here is simple but the sauces are what take it to the next level. There are sweet, savory, and spicy options to dip your proteins and sides. The staff here is always so friendly and helpful.
Dr Grubb's was legit! My wife and I came by to redeem a complimentary meal voucher from the owner from a previous Yelp Event. The location is at Claremont Village and we found some parking behind the business at a BofA since it was after hours. You enter and order at the register and they will bring the food to you. The staff here were unbelievably friendly and kind. We ordered another side and a drink to support the business as well. The location has a bar and many tables. There's plenty of TVs for sports and music playing so the vibe is upbeat. We got the Blackened Salmon, Blackened Shrimp with sides of Herb Brown Rice & Broccoli. Sauces we chose were the Tomato Pesto, Jalapeno Garlic & Lemon Garlic. We also got a side of Bowtie Pasta. The pasta was served literally within seconds. Our entrees were delivered shortly after. These entrees were so appetizing and the whole plates were full. My Blackened Salmon was amazing. The flavor and charring was on point. The portions were hefty and we ended up having leftovers. The health conscious entrees most definitely delivered. It doesn't feel like you're sacrificing all the flavors to make each dish "healthy". The food was really that good. I highly recommend coming by to Dr. Grubb's for great tasting healthy food! I look forward to eating here again. ( ^_^)b
After attending a Yelp event and trying out Dr. Grubb's, it was so good, I had to come back! We came for dinner on a Thursday night prior to attending a movie premier in the area and Dr. Grubb's was busy but luckily we did not have to wait for a table. I order the blackened salmon combo which comes with a side (baby potatoes) but you can split it and get two sides so I also chose couscous and a sauce (jalapeno garlic). WOW, that blackened salmon was amazing. Now I know to get everything blackened. We also order the herb chicken and regretted not getting the blackened chicken instead. The sides were pretty generous and had some leftovers to take back. Friendly and attentive service. Parking in free lots are available in the back. Highly recommend and would definitely be back.
My friend and I came to redeem our complimentary meal from a Yelp Event. It was a perfect meal after a long hike in the Claremont Wilderness. The sampling was delicious at the Yelp Event and even better at the restaurant. My friend and I both ordered shrimp (grilled and blackened) as our protein with veggies, brown rice, and penne pasta (so good) as our two sides. The sides were very generous. For our sauce, we ordered the jalapeño garlic and garlic aioli (my favorite). The staff was very friendly and attentive. They came around twice to check on us. Our food came out quite fast. Highly recommend and need to come back with my family.
Located near downtown Claremont. This casual spot was easy to get to and I had no trouble finding street parking. I ordered the flat iron steak with the 2 split sides herb brown rice and penne pasta. I really want to try their bow tie pasta, next time! The jalapeño garlic sauce was amazing, and the tomato pesto was just as delicious. I could drench everything in their sauces. I do wish the steak portion was a bit bigger, but it was cooked pretty decent, and not tough or dry at all. I also loved that they serve beer and have a bar-top area to sit. Received my meal quick and cashier was very friendly!
I can't believe it's been this long since my last visit. I'm back and this is one of my favorite places. At first. I didn't recognize the interior, I like the new look. Very inviting and modern. The staff is just amazing. So helpful with their recommendations, keeping me informed on my order, and organizing it so well for me to take home. Let's talk about the food. The portions are generous, in my opinion. The taste is spot on. And the options are just right.
New menu on the wall. Delicious as always, grilled salmon, broccoli and penne pasta-- I meant to order blackened salmon but it's been awhile so I forgot. It was ready in 20 minutes for pickup and the staff that greeted me was so smiley and helpful that I felt very welcomed and glad to have decided to order takeout tonight. The jalapeño garlic and lemon garlic sauce are the best! Pretty full and busy at dinner time tonight-- so glad they continue to do well! Glad to have healthy options for takeout!

My man and I are obsessed with this place! Located in Claremont with an awesome staff, this is our go-to when we're hungry and want something delicious that's not junk food. I love their blackened salmon and potatoes and my husband loves their blackened chicken and penne pasta. The homemade side sauces are a game changer, especially their tomato pesto. I'm so glad we came here. After taking a look at the reviews, I decided to give it a try and so happy I did. I tried the combo with pasta and blackened chicken....it was a delicious meal! I also got a side salad and the dressing was also delicious. I know they give you a sauce for you to pick on the side, but I didn't really find that I needed it. The pasta though!!! So buttery and cheesy! I had to ask them to take my plate because I knew I would keep eating those carbs lol My husband tried with steak with brown rice and broccoli with teriyaki which he drizzled over the meat and rice. He's a picky eater and he also loves his meal. The service was also wonderful so our whole experience was great for a Saturday lunch! This is the fourth time I come and visit this place. This is a very unique place since it is hard to find another just like it. You are able to create your own plate. They have a variety of options, at a very reasonable price. The food is excellent, very tasty and healthy. They have options for everyone, a lot of vegan options. They are typically busy, but they are still very timely with their service. Never a bad experience, everyone is super friendly. The ambiance of the place is very mellow. It's a great place to just have a nice conversation during a date, or just to watch the games while enjoying a beer. My only complaint is the parking situation. The parking lot is quite small and the parking spaces are quite small as well. That is the only complaint from me, everything else is great. Highly recommend this place. read more

Ate outside and today was the perfect weather and perfect ambiance because of the string lights in their outdoor patio. Service is quick, our food was served quickly and correctly. The chicken satay was a bit dry and the cous cous got tiring half way through. The apple garlic aioli was very good! The herb chicken was juicy and cooked well! The potatoes were very flavorful and delicious. Two combo meals came out to about $30 which is pretty cheap in today's world. Would come back! read more

Looking for a healthier eatery in a location where I could walk post-dinner, I came across Dr Grubb's and I couldn't be happier! Overall, great place with options for everyone. I look forward to coming back with friends and family! Service: 10/10...my mom and I were greeted and asked by the owner, Hader, if it was our first time (it was). He then swiftly asked us what our preferences were and created our entrees! Additionally, he provided drinks on the house and added an extra sauce in my dad's to go order. GREAT first impression. Food: 10/10...FRESH, delicious, flavorful, juicy, the list goes on. Don't get me started on the Roasted Baby Potatoes, I couldn't get enough! The portions were large--we took half home. The only "bad" thing I have to say is the food was a bit salty for me. However, I do not add salt to most of my at-home cooking, so this may not affect you and is the reason I still gave 5 stars :) Ambiance: casual. Counter order and they bring food to you via number. Super solid casual spot in Claremont to grab good food and catch a sports game. Got the blackened chicken with penne and lemon garlic sauce. My husband got the herb chicken with assorted veggies. If you mix the lemon garlic sauce with their habanero hot sauce they have next to the soda machine, it's amazing!! Minus one star because the food is good but isn't blow your mind away good. The workers were soooo kind and even gave us some of the habanero sauce in a little container to take home. Would come back to try their other options. read more

Dinner out with a group of teens. It was great to have so many options formatted in a simple way. Pick your protein, side and sauce. We had blackened shrimp and veggies with brown rice and lemon vinaigrette sauce, several of the group had the blackened tofu over pasta and vegetables or rice and veggies. The food was fresh and healthy, but tasty. The sauces were fun and added a creative twist to the meal. The person taking orders was cheerful and helpful in explaining how to approach the menu and wait staff checked in on what else was needed. Holy moly. My friend showed me this place and it turned out to be a gem. I pulled up and the lady helping me out was super helpful, I didn't know know where to start and she recommended I get the blackened chicken with a garlic apple aoli. I ate it in like 5 minutes, it was so good, and she let me know if I didn't like the sauce I could get another. I also got the grilled cheese dippers with an amber ale from Pomona--it was perfect. Come to Dr Grubb's if you want a balanced and healthy meal. My boyfriend and I get the combo plate, which comes with one protein, one side, and one sauce. For proteins, we've tried the Meyer's flat iron steak, blackened salmon, and chicken satay. All options are good. I used to love this restaurant and recommended it often, but after eating there recently, I'm truly disappointed. My husband picked up takeout, and I ordered the grilled salmon with broccoli. While eating at home, I found something that looked like a caterpillar on one of the broccoli stems after just a few bites. It was extremely upsetting and suggests the vegetables weren't cleaned properly. My husband called the restaurant to let them know, but no refund was offered--they simply said they would talk to their cook. I'm honestly disgusted. This is the only time we can tell my daughter we're going to the doctor's and she'll be happy. Been coming here for years and it's always exceptional. Hi Samantha, most of our food is cooked lighty with soybeans oil except both pastas with olive oil. The only item on the menu that contains butter would be the Grilled Cheese Dippers.
