I am very disappointed with the work provided by this company. They had to come back twice to perform the work we agreed on because the first time their crew forgot and then even though they came back they still hadn't done it right so they had to come back again. When I went underneath the house to inspect their work I came back out with all the garbage their crew left behind. Part of the reason I hired them was to remove debris and I found myself having to get under there to remove garbage they left. Also, and this is the most concerning for me, I noticed a broken hose line under the house that was not there before or in any of the pictures. This was not the case prior to their arrival and no one on their team told me about it. They left me to discover that on my own. Dr. Crawlspace is great! I needed my vapor barrier replaced and a sump pump installed, and Dr. Crawlspace was by far the most reasonably priced for the work being provided. I received quotes from multiple companies and none could compete with the warranty on products/labor and the quality of products that Dr. Crawlspace was using. Our Project Manager, Brandon R., was fabulous. He was honest, professional, patient with all of my questions, and incredibly thorough (during his inspection, during his after inspection explanations, and during his quality assurance check). In addition, I appreciated that Brandon took the time to make sure I truly understood my options and all of the answers to my questions. He never tried to upsell me, and in fact, he told me things I shouldn't purchase. I know nothing about crawlspaces and sump pumps, so I really appreciated Brandon's honesty and that I could truly trust his advice. The actual work was done quickly and efficiently. It took 1 full 10 hour day and then 2 more quick appointments after (a quality assurance check and an electrician visit). The 4-person team doing the labor (led by a different Brandon) was great as well. They were courteous and respectful to my house, and they tried to be as quiet and clean as one can be given the amount of dirt, rocks, and digging occurring. Racoons! Discovered I had been visited by a large racoon only by chance. Once I saw the vent cover had been smashed leading to the crawl space of my home, I searched reviews of companies that dealt with only crawl space issues. Through "This Old Home" program, I found Dr. Crawl Space. All of the people who worked with me through this process of destruction, feces and urine, were absolutely wonderful. Alex, the office manager was superb and Brandon, the project manager was terrific. Both were well versed in the damage that racoons can do and my house was no exception. I called them and very politely explained that I don't live there, and wondered if they could possibly let me know how soon the technician would be there? Nope. I politely explained the situation AGAIN, that I did not live at the property and asked if he could let me know when he was coming? Overall I had a good experience with Dr. Crawlspace. Chris was amazing, but working with the office staff on invoicing and payment was a bit irritating. PRO: Chris was fantastic. He came out to give me a quote on the crawlspace in the house I was under contract on. During my initial home inspection, some crawlspace issues were identified and so I wanted an expert's opinion. He was very thorough in his explanation of the issue and I could tell he really knew his stuff. Chris did a great job of navigating the murky waters of home inspections and presenting me (the buyer) with the information, as well as communicating the crawlspace issues with the seller of the home. I purchased the home and then had the Dr. Crawlspace crew come out and complete the job after I closed on the house. They were right on time, thorough and the three man crew did a great job. We crawled down there to inspect the work after they left (even though they provided pictures) and they were VERY thorough. CON: The downside of working with this company was the office staff. It was very clear that the office staff had poor communication with Chris and the crew. They were unsure of prices/quotes that I had been provided with and were not timely in their communication. Chris had given me a few quotes (each with a different number of services/treatments included on them) and once I decided on services I was going to have done, the invoice was never updated. I felt pressured by the office staff to "just sign" the Docusign (that included the incorrect list of services and total) and send in the deposit on the work before the list of services and overall total was corrected on the invoice. The person I spoke to over the phone wasn't very professional and seemed very indifferent about the invoice discrepancies, and kept ensuring me everything would be correct in the end. I was skeptical and rightfully so, because when I received my final invoice it was incorrect by over $300. After I pointed it out they were able to correct it, but all the headaches I had during this experiences could've easily been avoided with proper training and attention to detail. read more

I gave specific instructions to their office about how to gain entry- to call my agent and have someone come and open the house for them. That wasn't followed and twice they came out, but couldn't get in. I lost over a week of time waiting for their estimate and now they told my agent that i would have to pay to have them come out again. No problem, I gave the job to their competition, who gave me a prompt quote subject to a site visit. really wanted to give a better review, unfortunately I cant. Hired Chris and Dr Crawlspace to excavate a series of tunnels .remove the dirt and install vapor barrier in a small rental that i had just sold. While they did perform the work as specified the exterior of the freshly painted houses had lots of muddy handprints left on the siding. the interior of the house had dust and dirt top to bottom on all surfaces, sinks ,bathtub,counters, windows ,walls, stove top fridge, floors etc etc. the house had been sold an the new owner was taking possession in two days, so of course the house was immaculate before they started work. Chris listened to my complaint, and agreed to send someone to just wash the outside handprints. His contract said, you may experience some dust. long story a little shorter. Had to hire someone to work with me and scrub entire house the day before the new owner took possession. Upset that after spending upwards of 9 thousand dollars on a 2 day job, that i had to reclean entire house one more time ,top to bottom. Sorry Chris ,I asked for help and you weren't there. Chris and the office team were highly responsive and accommodated our changing needs on when we could do our encapsulation project. We had a couple small hiccups (like the high water alarm going off multiple times after the encapsulation which led to sump pump install and deciding after to put in foam insulation on the perimeter). We had quite a few crawlspace estimates and Dr Crawlspace hit the mark on price, speedy and thorough responses, and listening to our concerns (like not really wanting a sump pump but letting the water on our property tell us we really did need one). Never felt pushy. Overall workmen were very clean considering the mess in the crawlspace originally. He'd run it by his GM and have an email quote within a week. That was 04/01/2021. Now 05/05/2021. No email, no plan, no call. Portland metro area peeps, if you've been meaning to get your crawlspace restored, don't wait. Get that insulation in. Get those bare dirt patches covered. It's a good thing for your house health if you've got a crawlspace. And if/when you do so I really recommend these guys. Who better than the specialists who dare call themselves the Dr? I got bids from 3 companies. One guy spent all of 30 seconds down there, and came back up with a bid almost triple the others, with no explanations. Dr Crawlspace earns its name. After about 5 minutes the owner Greg came back out from that dirty underworld and sat me down with a slideshow on his phone...I realized later, the doc's diagnostic. He was able to show me the otherworldly blanket of lint from a disconnected (who knows how many years) dryer hose. We had a good laugh. Serious faerie digs. He showed me a post with a couple of bricks for a footing, instead of the cement block regulations called for. Nobody else even mentioned that. Greg was confident he could fix that, and he and his team did. Greg was able to give me a bid, and so clearly explain what was needed, he already gave better bid than the others. In addition he told me he was going to get a little part from his truck for a temporary fix of that dryer vent hose, which he did. And if I hired him, he would get the right parts so it wouldn't happen again. The others didn't even talk to me about the loose hose, their loss...we had Dr Crawlspace do that and replace the hoses (this is a duplex) with rigid ductwork. Because Greg was so thorough, we were reminded we wanted to have that done. I like smart customer service. We also added insulation to our list, and he handled the change in plans easily, even with his right hand man gone on military leave. Finally, the guys were always gracious about making sure their work wouldn't allow my indoor cats to slip outside. The best! read more

I had long known I needed to get our crawlspace encapsulated. We couldn't store anything down there without it getting moldy, and the air quality was affecting the air in our house. So I started getting quotes from the few places in town that do this sort of work. After meeting with three companies, I felt the best after meeting with Greg Baty of Dr. Crawlspace. There were a few surprises that they had no way of knowing about ahead of time, but they dealt with them without nickel and diming me for things. My partner and I requested that Dr. Crawlspace redo part of our crawlspace lining and insulate our crawlspace ducts. The lining was replaced just fine. However, the insulation job was not done properly. When we brought it to their attention, someone came out and said that yes, the insulation job was not done properly. They offered to do the remainder that was "quoted" on the bid at another time for no charge. But then they said that there was some extra insulation that would be required to do a complete job (aka what we originally asked them to do) and that we would not get a complete job unless we paid more. They claimed the original bid was wrong, which was a total surprise to us and was impossible to tell from the documentation. I felt like we had been taken advantage of. After arguing with them for a couple weeks, we disputed the charge with our credit card company and filed a BBB complaint. After which, one of the business owners finally stepped in and had the job as requested completed. The owner explained they had had some temporary staffing issues, which explained some of the poor communication. Overall, I was disappointed at how long it took to make their misrepresentation right, but in the end they did complete the job we originally asked them to do. I give them three stars because that is a neutral review in my book. It speaks to the owner's character that during their busy rainy season, she did step in to make the issue right. read more

This company impressed us at first but their lack of communication, botched logistics and failure to complete the job on time caused major stress and a lot of wasted time. I basically had to do all the office work for the job from San Diego which proved frustrating, stressful and took up a ridiculous amount of my time. We hired Dr. Crawlspace to do a job on my Uncle's house in Vancouver Washington in May 2019. Mike came out and impressed us with his knowledge and after getting a couple of quotes, we set up a contract. Stephanie, who worked in the office, was very responsive and helpful. However, then Tabby took over for Stephanie. I live in San Diego but was responsible for organizing the work done on the house so I called on Monday to get a schedule of the work that was starting Wednesday. I also left the contact information for the Mold Remediation company that they needed to work with. Even though I received no response from Tabby or anyone from Crawlspace I knew the job started on Wednesday because the neighbor told me she had let the workers into the house as prearranged. I was frustrated that I had not heard anything from the company because I still needed to arrange logistics with other contractors and the neighbor. Then the next day I got an email from Tabby stating that she needed to talk to me about the electrical. I called her two minutes after I got her email and she didn't answer but I left a message.. I then emailed her a couple of hours later to call me. At 10pm that night I miss her call but she left a message saying that they couldn't do the electrical part of the job so she was going to take it off of our contract. I emailed her eight minutes later saying I was very confused and if the electrical was not completed they were breaking their contract. The next morning I called Mike and then Tabby, no answer for either, so I left messages. Tabby calls back finally and says that she tried really hard but she could not find an electrician for the job. I question this because the electrician should have been scheduled for the job during the two weeks earlier when we solidified our contract, not two days before it was scheduled to occur. She also mentioned that our insulation work was scheduled for Monday but I had already told her that our Mold Remediation company was coming on Monday. The insulation could not be done before the remediation. I told her I needed to talk to Mike because she was not providing the service we were promised or were paying for. I called Mike again and he didn't answer but did call back. Mike said he would fix everything. He would find us an electrician to finish the job. He also agreed that the remediation did need to happen before the insulation so he would change that. He did call back and let me know the electrical would be done 18 days after it was originally supposed to be completed. This was stressful because we were in the middle of escrow supposed to close the next week. He also said that the insulation install was now scheduled for Wednesday, not Monday. I thought everything was handled. NOPE... on Monday I get a call at 9am from Tabby asking me if the neighbor can let in her team to finish some duct work. I was very alarmed because the Mold Remediation company was scheduled to be there at 9am. She said... "um... I will call you back" I immediately called Mike to ask him why there is Crawlspace crew there when they are not supposed to come until Wednesday. He never called back. I talked to Pete who was doing the mold work and he also called Tabby and told her not to have anyone from Crawlspace come as it could compromise the remediation. 1pm, Dr. Crawlspace workers show up ANYWAYS to do the duct work. They talked to the remediation workers and say they are going to do the work. The remediation workers tell them to at least wait until they are done with the job and leave. The treatment was supposed to dry for a day. My sister who lives in Portland then tried calling Tabby and Mike and left a message for both since neither one answered. I called Mike again at 1:30pm and he actually answered. He was surprised to learn that his workers were at the site. He said he would find out details and when he called back he said that his workers claimed that they didn't compromise the remediation. He started bad-mouthing the remediation company but I let him know that I needed confirmation from Pete that they didn't compromise the work. He said he would contact Pete. He called Pete early the next morning before he got into the office. Pete returned his call but by still hadn't heard back from him after 5pm. He tried calling him again and then Pete personally went over to the house and checked the mold job at 5:45pm since the insulation work was starting at 7:30am. Mike answered when I called him at 5:44pm and said sorry he was busy all day. I would highly recommend NW Mold Remediation. I would not recommend Dr. Crawlspace. read more
