I guess the problem was a little bit bigger than I had thought. So I decided one morning to make an appointment with an ENT doctor. My first inclination was to look up doctors in the area that had good ratings. After settling on a Dr. at Queens, I decided to call. But I was informed that the earliest appointment I could make was two weeks away. Who wants to hear out of only one ear for two weeks? I then called for doctors at Straub and the same thing happened. But I was told that Dr. Kaku could fit me into his schedule in about an hour. I was kinda hesitant because I found out that he was in his seventies and there were no reviews on him. But wanting to hear won me over. So I decided to take a chance. Boy was I wrong. Dr. Kaku was great. He had a great bedside manner and he took his time in removing wax from both ear canals. I was told that I had really small ear canals so that kinda made it a hassle, but he used every method to remove all the wax. It was like night and day when he finished. If you see this review and are looking for a ENT doctor, please don't hesitate on going to see him. He was very professional and attentive. Plus I got an appointment right away!

He looked in my ear and throat and saw post nasal drip. He prescribed an antihistamine and said that might fix it. Then he scheduled a hearing test. The antihistamine didn't help and I came in for a hearing test. When I saw Dr McLaughlin again, the first thing he said was 'you need a hearing aid'. I said 'OK, I'll look into that but what about my clogged ear'. He looked at the hearing results and in my ears for 5 seconds and told me 'your ears are fine'. And then stood up as if that was the end of the consultation. I felt that It was a waste of my time, that he had no inclination to try to solve my hearing issue. I positively would not recommend Dr McLaughlin BTW. I had my PCP refer me to another ENT. They looked at my hearing test results, asked me a lot of questions (did I swim underwater a lot. does the clogged feeling go away if I bend down or lay down. Have I lost a lot of weight recently), examined me more thoroughly and offered a possibility that I had Patulous Eustachian Tube. That's what it turned out to be.
