I don't like leaving bad reviews but sometimes it's a need to help others decide better. I had some hearing issues last year. After getting referred here by my pcp and was told my one ear was completely plugged. Dr Lee may or may not be the one seeing you as his PA Au does majority of the "simple" stuff while Dr Lee us doing the bigger and perhaps surgery etc. Let me say I been here Multiple times within a 7 month period and seen Dr Lee maybe twice. Not knowing anything and a little worried I agree to mostly whatever they recommend as I'm trusting them as professionals. 1st visit was consultation and send home to take antibiotic ear drops. 2nd visit, wax removal using micro vac. PA au and another apprentice did work on me. After I felt better but later that night loud ringing and bad bad vertigo symptoms. Went really bad for months with constant spinning feeling, nausea even when laying down. 3rd visit issues I'm having with the vertigo (my research indicated my sensitivity to the noise from the vac sucking). Get sent to do a MRI. 4th visit, results and get send scheduled for more testing. 5th visit, balance and heading test 6th visit, only getting told results from previous visit. 7th visit check up and cleaning again. BTW each visit is a "specialist" copay charge. They make you come in for a appt to tell you your results! Yeah with my constant visits i didn't know about and the huge bill afterwards. Balance test was a joke that cost couple hundred almost a grand all to tell me I have balance issues, yes I know that's what you're there to help me figure out. But only said you got balance issues from the test and to try these at home maneuvers. read more

This "doctor" will not care or listen to your concerns. His assistant Larry is the best and his only saving grace. After the first visit I was like oh maybe it was just a bad day. But no, this dude is a literal f****** asshole. He hovers by the door and you can tell he just wants to get out as soon as possible. FIRST VISIT: He seems to enjoy you being in pain. I just wanted to know if it was safe to use vaseline or another special ointment in my nose for a cut but he was like "i need to cauterize it". I was like that bad? Only for me to find out AFTER it was just large blood vessels he was not a fan of. The cauterization of the nose process was so painful but he just kept going and did not even warn me that it was going to be so painful. He didnt even tell me how to take care of it after! Guess why? Guy was standing by the door telling me to get out ASAP. He didnt even look at where the cut was or address it. SECOND VISIT: I went in for my throat but he takes out the equipment to check my ears and nose just to include it in my bill?? My dentist said he felt a hard lump in my throat and to get it checked out. I tell him this and he just looks inside and shrugs his shoulders saying he doesnt see anything. I HAD TO TELL HIM TO FEEL FOR IT. Only then is he like oh maybe get a CT scan. Like hello? You tell me, am i the doctor here? So dismissive and so unprofessional. First of all, Dr. Lee's demeanor is condescending from the get go. He dismissed all of my concerns as basic "human functions" which are legitimate concerns otherwise my PCP wouldn't have offered to refer me to him. Additionally, he categorized me into a statistic and based on this, he did not investigate my concerns further. I have never had a medical provider made me feel so stupid for even showing up to a five minute appointment with an expensive $50 copay. I truly wasted my time and money and will not be coming back or referring this office to anyone. read more

Terrible customer service. I arrived five minutes before my appointment and still waited over fifty minutes to see the doctor. This was my third appointment with Dr. Lee, and every single time I've had to wait at least 45 minutes before being seen. When I made a comment about the long wait as I was leaving, there was no apology. The only response I got was, "We were busy, I cannot help it." That attitude, combined with the repeated delays, makes it clear this clinic doesn't value patients' time. My symptoms never improved, and I won't be coming back. Front desk was not helpful. Told me to call my PCP to change something on my referral. It was an easy fix but honestly could they not have called themselves? It just put a lot of stress on me for no reason. Dr. Lee came across as very condescending and quite an asshole. Not sharing CPT codes with patients at the time of service can turn what should be a straightforward medical visit into a billing odyssey, not unlike navigating the labyrinthine bureaucracy of healthcare. Patients might assume certain services are covered based on their understanding of the visit, only to find out later that the specific codes billed don't match their coverage. ENT = Ear, Nose, and Throat My ear had been congested for a month or so. My Primary Care Physician did her best and after a couple rounds of antibiotics and steroids, she referred me to a specialist. Straub Clinic was full until February 2019... I didn't think I could endure this annoyance for 5 more months, so I got an appointment with Dr. James Lee. I had seen Dr. Lee over 3 years ago for allergies. Because my last visit was so long ago, I am considered a New Patient...shucks! I had to complete the routine forms again... Anyway, I knew where the office was. The 13th floor of the Ala Moana Building has a spectacular view of the South Shore of Oahu! The women's restroom is next door in the hallway...just get the key that's hanging on the wall. The waiting area has black vinyl office chairs and adequate air conditioning. It's bright and busy because the office is shared with a Beauty clinic! It's a cool experience listening to the receptionist and Dr. Lee speaking Korean language to the patients! Yes, this is a busy practice. There are two efficient receptionists and a competent Medical Assistant. I went in for my Vitals Signs and sat back in the waiting area until an exam room opened up. Larry, the Physician Assistant, is the star of this business. He did most of the work while Dr. Lee just saw me for a few minutes one day out of my four visits. Larry explained well, offered various options, and had great follow through! I also think that the audiologist is a great part of this ENT practice! I believe that they did their best. I didn't want to go through surgery, so I watched YouTube videos to learn jaw exercises and lymph node drainage techniques. I blew my nose a lot when I caught a cold in Las Vegas (instead of catching a Royal Flush). All of these things helped me to clear my ear...on my own... yay! I can hear you now! read more

Dr. Lee examined me and basically implied that what I am feeling is in my imagination. He was not interested in hearing what I had to say. Doctors may know a lot but there is one thing that they do not know. They do not know what a patient is feeling and experiencing. I felt he was very arrogant and did not want to take the time to listen to me and try to find out what is causing the problem. What good are doctors if they don't listen to what is wrong with you? The front staff is so rude! They don't really care about you. Dr. Au and Lee wants to keep bringing you back so they can keep filing claims to your insurance so they get paid. Remember you have to call your own medical coverage plan to find out if your service is covered. Make sure you ask them for the CPT codes. You are responsible for educating yourself with the cost, co-pay, and benefit. What a joke! The receptionist is not helpful. I will never come back again! Dr. Lee is a highly qualified, capable & caring physician. I was miserable with a tongue infection years ago & he was the only doctor that could cure my affliction. Most recently I had recurring sinus infections that left me miserable. I had a balloon sinuplasty procedure done by Dr. Lee and it's made a huge difference in my quality of life. During the procedure he was very kind, gentle & caring. I would highly recommend Dr. Lee to all my friends & family. read more

Careful if you see this clinic, they participate in deceitful medical care alongside deceitful billing practices. I made it very clear that I was only interested in a very basic ear wax removal, the Physicians Assistant attempted to render services I had not requested to which I responded only if it's covered by insurance. Lo and behold a month later I get a bill for over $340 after insurance has processed the visit. This is after copay and over 200$ paid by HMSA. This clinic deceitfully conned me into a nearly $600 tab for ear wax removal. This practice Hawaii ENT Consultants should receive 0/5 stars however that is not an option. Total waste of time, insensitive to patients concern, and said "what do you want me to do about it?"doctor Lee did not see me until I got my biopsy report, then didn't even read it. Zero prep work done then said he would check it next appointment. When complaining about the last of professionalism he hit me with what do you want me to do about it? Dr. Lee does not see referred patients (patients referred by their internal medicine physician) or patients with appointments~ he utilizes his PA(physician assistant) for most of the appointments scheduled. Unfortunately, he bills his patients at his specialist rates (HMSA allows him to charge this higher fee) even though the patient is seen by his physician assistant. The big disappointment is that they tell you that Dr. Lee will review test or CAT scan results , but he never does. I had three appointments, and Dr. Lee has never reviewed any test results with me. read more

Horrible customer service. I was referred to them by my primary physician and of course received the "courtesy call" reminding me of my appointment. They FAILED to mention that their original office had flooded and that they had moved to the Ala Moana building. After calling and having to ASK where they moved to, I get there and I'm all out of sorts. I can't find my insurance card. (Of course it was just buried at the bottom of my bag) I get MASSIVE attitude from the local lady with glasses. It doesn't stop there. When a gentleman came in after me, she had the audacity to say VERY LOUDLY (as if to embarrass me) "oh you're so good sir, thank you for brining your insurance card, CAN YOU BELIEVE SOME PEOPLE COME HERE WITHOUT IT?" It was just so rude and unnecessary to rub it in while I was already having a horrible day. First I saw Dr Lee but then for the next 2 or 3 visits they "passed me off" to Dr Au. Which wasn't terrible because he was VERY nice but it was just odd that I didn't receive an explanation. Don't even get me started on the billing. What a nightmare. My first bill was for $300+ but I knew this was because of a specialty test so I just accepted it. When I payed over the phone I had asked for a receipt because it was on a flex spending account-never received that! I'm Now being charged another $100+ for what, 1 office visit in 2020?? When I called to inquire, I couldn't get a straight answer in regard to WHAT services were rendered to warrant the charges. Even the paper "statement" they send is a COMPLETE JOKE. There's no breakdown of services, no office phone number, (just the # for billing) no statement of original charge, past 30 days, 60 days etc., or a section for updated client information. This is usually standard on any bill nowadays. Completely unprofessional. The only saving grace is that Dr. Au was the only one with good customer service and he knew what he was talking about. Someone had referred I go to see this ear specialist due to an ear infection I had. Long story short... They put some powder into my ear to dry it out and told me that it should be okay, gave me a follow up date. Next visit, they said it looks fine but will set up a follow up date to get my ear tested (hearing/hearing loss). NEXT visit, they said everything looks fine but will set up a follow up visit in about 2-3 months to make sure... Hmm.. if everything is fine, why are they continuously trying to set me up a follow up date? Weird. I'm canceling it because I do believe the previous post about them wanting to take your money. I got a bill statement from them, literally a week after it was supposedly due so I get charged a late fee. What? How you going to charge me a late fee if I received the mail a week late? Bill was paid. Couple weeks later, I get another bill statement for over a $150 or so... AGAIN, a week later after their supposed due date so I'm going to get charged a late fee. Not to mention... Their bill statement is ABSOLUTELY confusing and makes no fucking sense. This doctor, James... Has no emotion. He seems to just like to talk technical and sound intelligent but there's no empathy. Very rehearsed and robotic. You can spend just as much money for a doctor that is worth going to visit.. Who cares or at least tries to. Don't get ripped off. read more

I had to call for make an initial appt . Luckily they were available soon. I got an ear infection and the urgent care couldn't help me so they told me to look for one. My initial visit I had Dr . Larry Au and he is very nice , detailed, professional. Prescribed my ear drops and followed up after. I met Dr . James Lee, he was nice but it seems very quick like in and out. The second visit , I had to stop the ear drops so Dr Larry Au put the powder to help stop the infection and it definitely works! The 3rd visit I had a hearing test and the specialist told me I would need hearing aids. But someone my age so young , I'm a little hesitant about it. I would definitely look forward to it as I get older . Followed up with Dr Au , he said I don't need it so that's great! Now I have a follow up in 6 months to see how I'm doing . PLEASE AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COST. This office only cares about taking your money. Not you. Believe the negative reviews that were left by many others who got referred to this office. As for my experience, witnessing receptionists yelling on the phone at those trying to make an appointment. To a very blunt non-empathetic doctor that doesn't explain anything and the longest you'd be seen is maybe 2 min tops. The "nasal endoscopy" scam is real. The doctor will tell you to sign a consent form not even explaining anything about what will be charged or billed. The doctor himself will just tell you to sign a form and walk out, not explaining a thing. Also, will ignore what you were initially referred for. AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ADULTS WHOS ENGLISH IS NOT THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE. And even before you could decline to the procedure he performs it anyway. So just a heads up, even when you have the slightest stuffy nose from just sitting in the cold room, he will shove that camera up your nose if you say "Yes, you have a slight nasal congestion". Then because the receptionists don't know what goes on back there you're billed with 200+ dollars with no explanation what's so ever. Typically in healthcare, it's important to inform your patients the treatment and estimates of what will be performed the day of exam. And what will be billed to insurance and what your insurance should cover and your estimate patient portion. They don't do that. Instead, the demand that you pay the fees and come up with BS answers as to why you're being billed so much money. I've never experienced such an unethical office both receptionist and doctor. So please if you ever get referred here, talk to your PCP and get another referral. I did make an appoitment and they told me the time and date to be there. I whent to the address they provide it, I got to the building and I was looking for the name of the doctor in the building directory and no were to find it. To make it short after some hoops finally I got to the right office at 8:05 am, and I was surprice to see a bunch of people there already even though the open at 8:00... so they ask me if I fill the forms online, I guess I was suppose but nobody tall me anything wile I was making the appoitment. Any way I fill the papers and wait, half and hour has pass and I ask when I was to be seen, and for my surprise they told me that they DON'T KNOW. I'm sorry that is why a person does an appoitment!. This not a walk in restaurant !. PEOPLE PLAN THE DAY ACCORDINGLY OF OUR NEEDS NOT THEIRS!. AND AT LEAST THEY HAVE THE DUTY AND OBLIGATION TO LET PEOPLE HOW THE PRICCES IS BEFORE A PATIENT ACCEPTS THE APPOITMENT IN ADVANCE. After a dentist perforated my sinus and then referred me to an oral surgeon, the oral surgeon saw me twice and referred me to an ENT. All the other ENTs required a PA and/or were booked out for months. Needless to say, Dr. Lee's reviews had me a bit concerned, but I needed relief. I'm not sure what people expect from a doctor. I found the staff cordial and the Medical Assistant had a stellar bedside manner. Dr. Lee struck me as a doctor with a heavy case load who is just trying to do his job. And...that's what I need. I don't need my ENT to be my best friend, I just need him to be able to work with me to resolve the issue (in this case a sinus infection caused by a perforated sinus). It took three visits, but Dr. Lee was able to resolve the fissure and the infection without surgery. I could not have hoped for more. I hope I never need the services of an ENT again, but if I do, I will happily return to Dr. Lee. read more

Let me address this before the epic rant: The only reason I gave a star, ONE star, is for Dr Lee's partner. He is the only one thats kind and informative, in the end nothing was really accomplished by him though. ...I really wished I saw the yelp reviews before going. This is for my grandma, I go with her to help translate. If you don't want to read essay-like rant, heres summary: Don't go, find a better doc cause he's horrible. lol DR. LEE: First impression: He's a prick. 2nd and 3rd appointment later: .....He's a prick. Here's why: He has no self awareness... Does he not realize how rudely he speaks to his patients? Or does he not care? He is insensitive and blunt- NO filter. He may have successfully helped and handful of other people, but so many other doctors are just as capable and with aloha. Judging by these reviews, he's done more wrong than right. My grandma has this mass (found out later its non-cancerous) and we've been under the care of a derm for a year. He is the one who referred us to Dr. Lee. The first time we went in to see Dr. Lee, he looked at my grandma and the first thing said was, why I took so long to bring my grandma to get her treated. I don't know and I don't care how right he is, it was so insensitive, NOT something a "professional" doctor would OR SHOULD say. I couldn't respond, it was too shocking... AnYWaY, thats all he did that day. He L I T E R A L L Y did nothing but look at her and that prob costed a lot. RECEPTION: First impression: The receptionist look like they hate their job, talk passive aggressively, and just generally have an attitude... Although, they do have their good days and act nice sometimes. 2nd and 3rd appointment later: Dr.Lee's partner doc took a biopsy and receptionist were suppose to send results to our derm... they never did. Dr. Lee wanted my grandma to see a doc. at Queen's so the receptionist was suppose to send a referral form.. they never did. I had to call the referred doc myself, but they couldn't do anything because they did not have the referral form nor the biopsy result. They said they called Dr. Lee's office and receptionist "SWEARS" she sent them, trying to find an excuse (later she called me and said the same exact bs). She at least apologized the next visit, she also tried finish the job (simple faxing/email of info). Ever since her mistake, she has not been sassy towards me or my grandma. My mom was referred to him by her primary. English is not her first language. At their first visit he was rude to her, didn't attempt to explain things in layman's terms, and rushed her out. She told him her children were in the medical profession and asked to call/FaceTime during her visit. He just tells her he will her paperwork to take home to show us and let us explain to her. Seriously? If you have a choice or can wait, go to another ENT. There's a reason why others are so booked out and he's not. Clearly no bedside manner and does not care about his patients. Wow, what a waste of time and money. Lots of money. My insurance is limited, as most insurances are when it comes to a "specialty" doctor. I was referred to Dr. James Lee from my PCP, hoping I wouldn't have to go into downtown Honolulu to help my problem. Off the bat scheduling was a problem since their pearl city office had been booked for some time. Finally got my appointment maybe two weeks later. They first have you sign multiple papers saying that if your insurance does not cover the cost of this "specialty" doctor, it will need to come out of pocket and YOU will be responsible to pay for it. I was asking questions like crazy and his response to my main one, "why am I so stuffy all the time if I have no allergies and I am not sick? I cannot breathe normally through my nose." His response, "I am not sure" then proceeds to tell me that I need to spray allergy meds up my nose and might be subconsciously forcing myself to breathe through my mouth because I'm thinking I might not get enough air. WTF?! The nurse at the front desk tried to schedule me for another appointment and I said that I am never coming back. This was my out of pocket expenses: $86.49 initial visit for examination One week later, $267.09 my share for a camera to go up my nose for literally only 2 minutes and his verdict? "You're nose is inflamed..." Well yeah, that's why I'm here trying to get some answers as to why! + $20.00 for the visit on the same day $250.39 to figure out why I had such bad vertigo. BTW, no answer as to why I was having such bad episodes was found + $20.00 for the office visit on the same day. Ever felt like you've been cheated and ripped off? If not, go to this doctor and you'll find out. I first went there in Oct. 2016 and I am still paying random mailed statements and its mid May 2017! It would be worth it if I found some answers. To sum my rant up, Dr. Lee is unsympathetic, and obviously cares about making money more than really helping his patients. read more

Went to see dr. Lee today and had a great experience. I didn't have to wait in the waiting room longer than 10 mins before I was able to see the doctor. He listened to my concerns carefully, asked relevant questions, and did the necessary exam. Dr. Lee answered all questions I had for him and explained my options for treatment. read more

I saw Dr. Lee in his Aiea office on Friday, May 31. I was referred to him from my PCP who warned me of his "not so good bedside manner", however he had the most availability as Straub is booked out several months. I have been a nurse for over 15 years and can say with open honesty; this is the worst experience I have ever witnessed or been part of in the medical field. I don't even want to give him one star. I will say the receptionist that took my info was quite pleasant, so I'll give that star to her. This is a summary of my experience: 1. The MD and PA walk the patients to the front and tell the receptionists (assistants? MA's?) what they are ordering for the patient such as MRI, labs, follow up. This happens essentially in the waiting room as there is no divide between the two. This is a clear HIPAA violation and makes for a very uncomfortable discharge. 2. The person who called me (she never introduced herself and didn't have a name tag) just told me to stand on the scale, sit down and take blood pressure, then herded me to another room without saying anything else. 3. The PA came in and examined me. I had to repeat how long I've had this problem 3 times to him. He proceeded to come at my face with a contraption of which I had no idea and ended up spraying lidocaine in my nose. AFTER that, he asked if I would sign consent for the procedure. 4. After the PA, Dr. Lee casually walks in and flops down in the chair and I have to repeat everything I had just told the PA. He quickly examined me and basically said he would prescribe medicine and if it didn't work " I guess we will do a biopsy". His parting words to me were "you should stop smoking"; I told his PA twice that I quit smoking several years ago. 5. My discharge took place in front of a packed waiting room where they discussed all aspects of the prescribed medication in detail. I will never, ever step foot in that hellish office again. It is painfully clear why this man is the only ENT with open availability for new patients; he has the worst practice I've ever seen. I work for a prominent healthcare provider in Honolulu and we refer to him very frequently. I will make it my mission to never refer anyone to him again and I would ask anyone considering a visit with him to read his reviews and consider taking your healthcare concerns/needs to someone (anyone) more competent. read more

Saw this ENT specialist for the first time today (26 APR 19), in his Aiea office. I had read his other Yelp! reviews (mainly very negative ones) before going, so I was not looking forward to meeting him. To my surprise, I found Dr. Lee to be courteous, cordial, professional, and business-like. He was not the least bit reluctant to discuss and explain his findings or recommendations. His staff was very busy (it's obviously a busy practice), but I did not get the least impression they were either inefficient, hated their jobs, or had a negative attitude. Look, I don't want to start any flame wars with other reviewers, but it's hard to believe they could be writing about the same Dr. James Lee as the man I saw today. I am ill-equipped to comment on his technical or medical expertise, but I can assure you he did not display any of the negative personal qualities other reviewers have described. Either those other reviewers are laboring under a case of badly mistaken identity, or they have an axe to grind. read more

The only reason this office got one star is because I can't give zero stars. The PA Larry is a condescending little shit. He wouldn't listen and would dismiss everything you say. The Dr eventually comes in for literally one minute and yet you still get charged for doctor fees. The receptionist had no clue about anything. They weren't helpful and couldn't look things up. Them and Larry would lie about things saying they would contact my other doctor rod at further information since I was referred, but they never did and frankly never intended to which you can tell because they never asked me to sign a waiver to disclose my info. First time visit and I was very disappointed with the lack of professionalism. The front desk receptionist was very rude when I asked her if there was a sign in sheet and she very rudely said its over there. Dr Lee spent about 45 seconds with me and most of the grunt work was done by his assistant who was nice but was not an MD. Greedy for money, Crooked and Unsanitary practice. As you can see many other complained about the Nasaloscopy camera they stick up your nose only as a money making scheme. I noticed that device was sitting in a sink of soapy water mixed with germs from many other patients before me. After I left the office my nose was just running and I had excessive sneeze attacks for a few more days(bad nasal infection). Probably because of all the infection the doctor is spreading from patient to patient. Doctor spends the least amount of time possible with you and just don't care, they only want your money. I can imagine how much worse it would be if you had to do surgery. They would not care about you dying they just want the green in your wallet. Doctors and Lawyers have a code of ethics they should be following but they never do because they are greedy for money. They should be doing things for the best interest of people but the sad truth is they are doing things for the best interest of making their wallet bigger at the expense of your co-pay and the bunch of cash they are getting from the medical insurance. Thinks about it if you could get rich from other people why not, however, I don't mind them getting rich. Doctors could at least give the patients what they paid for with their hard earned money. read more

On February 15, I suddenly lost the hearing of my left ear. My doctor referred me to Dr. James Lee and told me that I needed immediate medical treatment. I was very worried that I would not be able to get the appointment right away. I called Dr. Lee's office. After I explained my situation to the office assistance on the phone, she told me that she would try her best to set an appointment for me. She called me back after 1 hour and told me that my appoint was next day. I really appreciate the fact that I was able to receive medical treatment right away. I work in the medical field, so I knew the exact treatment options and procedures for my ear. Dr. Lee is very professional. He explained to me the cause of hearing loss and his plan to treat my hearing loss. He ordered the necessary tests for me. By the way, there are about 7-8 people work for Dr. Lee. They all looked very busy but happy working there. In the following week, I was scheduled to see Dr. Lee in the morning and have a balance test in the afternoon. The day before my two appointments, the office called me and told me that they changed my appointment schedule so I can see Dr. Lee and have my balance test at the same time. I really appreciate their efforts going one extra mile to help their patience. In the future, if I have ENT problem again, I definitely will see Dr. Lee again. read more

I wasn't on planning to write a review but I thought a short review is better than nothing. As the others have commented, yes he does not have good bedside manners. In discussing things with me, I felt it should be with respect versus telling out loud that I need to do a brain scan and need one scheduled at the receptionist desk with other patients occupying the area. When he said "brain scan" 3 other patients looked up. He also doesn't listen to my questions and tells me things not pertaining to my question. He rushes you out. His assistant is way better but I cannot remember his name. I would not recommend him to anyone unless they have no other choices. read more

Waste of time and a lot of money. They made me sign some waiver that they didn't really explain. The next thing I know I get hit with a $280 invoice that my insurance doesn't cover... Hmmm sounds like a ripoff.Absolutely do not recommend this clinic. read more
