Dr. Hanada is always pleasant, professional, and someone I trust with my care. I did have some difficulty reaching the office initially--after several calls, I was repeatedly routed to voicemail and had trouble connecting to schedule an appointment. However, the office did follow up and was able to get me in quickly once we connected. It may have been a staffing or communication issue, but I appreciate that they made the effort to accommodate me. Overall, I'm glad to be continuing care with this doctor and hope the phone responsiveness continues to improve. read more

Went for a second opinion to finding things out I never knew and wouldn't have known if I didn't go. I originally went to an Urgent Care for an ear infection, was prescribed an anti-histamine (didn't know at the time) and was sent home. I wasn't feeling great after a few days of taking it and thought maybe I should see an allergist or something because I was miserable. Dr. Harada's office was near by and they had managed to squeeze me in, they put me on a waitlist and called me the next day because they had a cancellation! Getting in was quick and efficient, not to mention her office is huge. I thought I was in the wrong place but I felt so comfortable. Her staff, especially her medical assistant greeted me and explained everything to me in great detail! And although I couldn't take my allergy test them, they promised they would call me as soon as they had another opening like they did. Her medical assistant made sure I was okay, she took her time with me because I couldn't move as much. She paced herself with me and understood that I wasn't feeling great at all. When Dr. Harada came in, she was flabbergasted when I explained everything to her. She explained about my ear infection with great detail and put me on a plan to help me less miserable lol. If it wasn't for her, I would pretty much not be able to walk around normally as I do now. My appointment was weeks ago but they had called me back again for my allergy test and squeezed me again. The care they have for their patients is amazing! I would definitely recommend Dr. Harada's office and staff for your allergy needs. They were quick, responsive, and will match your pace. Having suffered from seasonal allergies (or what i thought were seasonal allergies) for most of my life, i decided to go get an allergy test to find exactly what I'm allergic to. Partly out of curiosity and partly because my allergies seemed to be getting worse and worse to the point where it was almost year round. The results were eye opening and amazing. All my life thought it was mango season that brought out my itchy, watery eyes and sneeze-fest. . . nope! after a few little pricks up and down both of my arms with different allergens, i found that the main culprit is the little dust mite. Yep. Small but mighty . . .can render a grown woman nearly incapacitated!! Dr. Harada prescribed a regimen of nasal sprays, specific allergy medication and mite covers for my bed and pillows. I have to say, once i did all of the above, I'm feeling so much better. Dr. Harada is extremely knowledgeable. She even explained how my occasional acid reflux can sometimes present like allergies (causing coughing and scratchy throat, etc.) and advised taking Pepcid or similar. I really liked her approach - she really took the time to explain things and even gave me "Costco Options" (i.e. cost effective). Dr. Harada is a terrible doctor with no bedside manner or care, because of her my child has been sick for over a year when they could have been well on their way to healing. She doesn't feel like throwing up every day for a year is a symptom of allergies, despite tests showing that they test off the charts for a dust mite allergy. Likewise, she is incredibly condescending despite multiple mistakes on her staff. Avoid at all costs, unless you want a bandaid and continuing to feel your worst. read more

Dr. Harada has been a great doctor to me for many years. She friendly, easy to talk to, listens to your problems/concerns, and makes time for you. Sometimes the waiting room can be a little busy, but be patient. It's worth the wait. Dr. Harada sees people of all ages. The staff are very competent in their work and gets the patients in and out as soon as possible. Before seeing Dr. Harada, I was taking allergy shots and taking a lot of medicine for my "allergies". When I transferred to Dr. Harada, she made a comment that it might not be allergies so we decided to take me off the allergy shots. I felt relieved to stop the shots and save some money. I'm very happy being her patient and hope others feel the same way too. I believe she's only available during the week and off on the weekends. Call the office and see what her exact hours are. Make sure you get your parking validated. It's $1/half hour. Unless you can find street parking or have someone drop you off. Cashier Office is on the 3rd floor and I find it to be easier to stop by the office then go to the car. Pre-paid parking stubs get their own lane so it might save you some time if you are in a hurry. read more

It was my first time to consult with Dr. Harada regarding my allergies. After exhausting many options to control my rhinitis symptoms (that have been on and off for more than a year already), it was time to see an allergy specialist. I decided to go to her for consultation based on the high reviews here on Yelp. I was very wary with the other allergists here in the island with poor reviews, so I had to be sure. Very clean and welcoming office/clinic. Staff is very pleasant. Make sure you block at least half a day for your allergy testing appointment, so you would be able to consult and ask your questions to Dr. Harada without feeling rushed. Dr. Harada explained the different allergy triggers to me, which made me more informed as a patient. She was also not quick to give prescriptions, which I like a lot. She advised me OTC medication that is affordable and easily accessible (can be bought in Costco) as well as the dosages. She is very reassuring and I won't hesitate to book another appointment with her for future consultations. The high reviews she has on Yelp and on Google are on point! :) read more

If you're looking for an excellent physician to help manage allergy related problems and asthma, look no further, Dr. Harada is the best! She was very thorough about helping me understand what aggravates my asthma, how to avoid what I'm allergic to, and why and when I need to take my medications. She genuinely cares about how I'm feeling overall and I always feel comfortable asking questions without feeling rushed. Dr. Harada's staff are always welcoming and accommodating. Whenever I am having a flare, they always fit me into Dr. Harada's schedule and often call in medications to get me through until I am able to be seen. Whenever I walk into Dr. Harada's office, I immediately am at ease. The office is immaculate and the staff are courteous. As a nurse, I have to admit that I am conscientious about hygiene and I appreciate that the office isn't littered with food, toys or magazines. I would prefer to avoid being exposed to more germs when I am visiting my doctor. I also appreciate that there is no eating allowed in the office because I am one of those sensitive patients who experiences respiratory symptoms if I am near people eating peanuts and almonds. Being in the health care profession, I had thought I could manage my allergy symptoms myself. However, after listening to my colleagues at the hospital and reading the rave reviews about Dr. Harada on Yelp, I am so happy I found her. First of all, the front desk/receptionists are all very competent. I haven't had any issues with calling or scheduling. I go to a lot of doctors and most of them have front desk staff that are either never picking up the phone, taking forever to get something done, or messing up the schedule somehow... So I'm very impressed with her staff. The office is very clean and comfortable. Parking is validated and not too expensive. Dr. Harada is a great doctor. She is patient and listens to all of your concerns despite having to see so many patients. I came to her to get allergy shots since I've been dealing with allergies my whole life. I've recently started to break out in hives this year so I was itching to do something about it. I'm very happy that we were able to start the immunotherapy within a few days after the initial consultation appointment. She also recommended me to switch to a weaker antihistamine. I don't know if it's a placebo effect, but I haven't broken out in hives (once my antihistamine wears off) or had any coughing attacks at night since. I just wish I saw her sooner! Overall I'm very excited about the immunotherapy and happy to be working with her on this. read more

I only yelp when things are really good or really bad. Dr. Harada is AMAZING!!! One visit and my life is changed. I've dealt with year round allergies my entire life. I would wake up congested in the middle of the night sneezing and itching my eyes. After taking the medications she suggested I haven't woken up in the middle of the night! But it was worth the wait .. a lot of parking which is $1.00 1/2 hour with validation located in POB 1 plenty parking ..very clean waiting room .. I got my allergy test done by her nurse ,Katrina who was friendly professional and explained everything to me ..after 10 minutes I got the results and Dr. Harada was professional and then explained me the results and the solution was informative And answered all my questions highly recommend to anyone who need an allergist read more

We were referred to Dr. Harada by our child's pediatrician on Kauai after she had had an unexpected anaphylaxis episode. Called Dr. Harada's office & explained that we would be on Oahu for about a week, and after asking questions about the reason for our call, we were scheduled for a last-minute, lunch-hour visit. Dr. Harada and her staff were so accommodating, and even performed the allergy testing during this initial visit. She & her nurse were both very professional, reassuring & patient with our doctor-averse 6 year old. Dr. Harada also took the time to go over the results, ensure that we knew how to use the epi-pen we already had, and answer all the questions we had. There is still one more test we need to get done, but Dr. Harada was very reassuring & informative. We left with a lot more peace of mind, and with instructions to call her anytime we have more questions or if another episode occurs (which hopefully it won't!). read more

My absolute favorite doctor! I've had issues with allergies and my sinuses for years. Dr. Harada's persistence to get my allergies under control have made my life more comfortable. Her patience as we all navigated this current pandemic were a blessing. She supported my efforts to work remotely (I also have a lung condition) and calmed my fears as I went from isolating in pure fear (of this virus) to taking control of my life by wearing PPE and taking other precautions. I only wish I had found Dr. Harada sooner! She has helped me to live a comfortable life again. I had been suffering for nearly a year with raised, itchy welts that appeared out of nowhere. I read online about food allergies leading to hives and painstakingly eliminated gluten and dairy from my diet which made absolutely no difference. I also read that dust mite allergy is common in Hawaii, and invested in an air purifier and dust mite covers for my bed without any improvement of the itching. I started to become paranoid, believing that everything I was eating or coming into contact with was aggravating my skin. A coworker mentioned how Dr. Harada helped her control her asthma which flared from the VOG. She suggested that I be seen so I could figure out if I truly had allergies. When I finally called Dr. Harada's office, there was a two month wait to see her. Having suffered for nearly a year, I knew I could wait another two months. I was offered to be placed on a wait list and sure enough, I was contacted and offered an appointment two weeks later. When I arrived to Dr. Harada's office, I thought I had entered a spa instead of a doctor's office. The office was warm, spacious and inviting. Dr. Harada and her staff immediately put me at ease. Based on my history and concerns, I underwent allergy testing to the foods I was worried about and allergens in the environment. Within 30 minutes, I was relieved to learn that everything was entirely negative. Dr. Harada reassured me that I could broaden my diet without fear that foods were the trigger. Dr. Harada educated me on my condition and how to manage my symptoms. She took the time to answer my questions and alleviate my concerns. My wife and I are forever grateful for Dr. Harada and her staff.  We were referred to Dr. Harada by our pediatrician, Dr. Dezzani, who told us she is the best.   I decided to look her up on Yelp and I must say, she has definitely lived up to all of her positive reviews. We came to the Hawaii Allergy Institute seeking help with our 3 year-old son who suffers from chronic nasal symptoms and cough.  We thought that he was sick since he had just started preschool but after multiple antibiotics, his cough never went away .  Dr. Dezzani  recommended that we rule out allergies.  We were nervous about putting our son through allergy testing but after  our visit with Dr. Harada, we are so happy we did!    He was found to be allergic to  molds, animal dander, and dust mites.  It was such relief to find out what was making our son so miserable.   Dr. Harada's assistants were so caring and comforting to our son.  They were patient with our terrified 3 year-old during the testing and remained positive throughout the whole process.  Following the testing, Dr. Harada took the time to teach us about our son's allergies and also ways to control his triggers in the future.  I am happy to say that since seeing Dr. Harada and following her advice, our son no longer is sniffling and coughing and is enjoying being a kid again! read more

Let me start this by saying I am not a typical patient and my docs have all faced challenges with diagnosing, treating, and keeping me covered by insurance. When patients don't fall into perfect diagnostic criteria, getting treatment gets very complicated. That said, Dr. Harada and her staff have been able to get me on the treatment regimen I need, they fought the insurance companies with me by keeping detailed notes in my progress and challenges in my record (I can't stress how important this is), and because of this they have probably saved my life. The only reason I don't use five stars is because there have been some difficulties with communication, but I believe this may have to do with the complexity of my situation and her popularity as a specialist in allergy and immunology disorders. I do believe they are more experienced treating allergies than the immune system disorders, but that's to be expected just because so many more patients suffer with allergies. Dr. Harada's record keeping is excellent, and you never know when you'll need to count on that in a battle with your insurance company. You will probably have to wait awhile before you're seen, but I just consider that normal when seeing specialists because patients have more complex needs and often take longer than the 15 minute allotted time. I was referred to Dr. Harada by Dr. Jurek. When I initially requested an appointment, they were all booked up. The receptionists offered me the option of being on a waiting list in case there were any cancellations. To my surprise, they called me about 2 weeks later, saying that they could take me. When I arrived, Brittany, at the front desk, was very upbeat and cheerful. Dr. Harada's medical assistant, Olivia, was also helpful and friendly. Dr. Harada was very knowledgeable and personable. Instead of rushing me out of there, like most doctors, she took the time to explain and answer my questions. We even discussed areas beyond her realm of expertise. In addition, the office is also very clean, spacious and comfortable. It's also a bonus that it is aesthetically pleasing and decorated in good taste. I've had mostly good experiences with her and her staff, only a couple issues over the phone, but that's to be expected. I have suffered with asthma/COPD for over 50 years. I have had countless visits to the emergency room and admitted to the hospital more times than I can remember. I have been to so many specialists throughout the years not only for my respiratory condition but numerous other health conditions. Dr. Harada is the type of doctor that I honestly did not know existed anymore. From my very first visit I knew somehow that she would make a difference in my overall health and well being. She is obviously an expert in her field and explained a treatment plan in detail and educated me on the harmful affects on the medication (prednisone) that I was taking routinely and wrote out a plan to safely taper me off and prescribed other medication that would not have the numerous and harmful side affects. Dr. Harada is a very caring physician who makes me feel like we're both working together and that I'm not alone in my fight to improve my quality of life after so many years of fear and suffering. I am writing this review to warn other patients that allergists are both expensive and promise very little. Ms. Harada did not mention the cost or the probability of a successful diagnosis- which is very low. My diagnosis was dust mites and pet dander. I already knew that the latter of the two was not the case, so upon her recommendation, we spent several hundred dollars replacing bedding. It fixed nothing. A little bitter about our nearly $400 doctor bill, I looked up the most common allergies (admittedly my mistake for not having done this earlier) to find that: if you have an allergy it is most likely pet dander or dust mites. In other words, I could have pulled this diagnosis from a blog rather than wait for an hour in Ms. Harada's office to run a five minute test. From this review you can tell that I was a bit naive about this doctor visit, but I give the low rating because this office took advantage of my trust in doctors. I recommend trying to find your own solution with a bit of internet research and see a doctor as a last resort. read more
