I have been seeing Dr Sugibayashi for years (well over 13) and love her. She's extremely personable and realistic. She will give you all the options needed for anything along w pro's and con's and leave the ultimate decision to you once you're educated. I have never had any doubt about her capabilities. If I could give a zero star I would. This doctor does not care about the patient she only wants to bring you in for every little thing so that she can get paid from office visits. I have been a patient for over 2 years. This doctor has not given a damn about a recurring issue I had, only attempting to prescribe meds that are not working. She did not care to research the issue or provide other options. I have brought concerns to her that she has dismissed, misdiagnosed, and just did not even care to spend the time speaking with me about. She is very unprofessional! She has hung up on me, not returned calls, and quite frankly just rude. I would not recommend this Dr under any circumstance! read more

Dr. Shera Sugibayashi has been my OBGYN doctor for at least six years, and I was surprised to see that she (and her staff) have 3 stars on Yelp! I guess I've been lucky- I've never had any phone or professionalism issues with the doctor or the office staff. I actually find them very pleasant and nice to talk to! There have been a few times where I waited in the room for quite a long time (but I was always checked on and this last time was told that doctor was coming straight from delivering a baby!) They do leave voicemail messages and do the appointment reminder calls a few days before your appointment. Over the years, I've built a relationship with Dr. Sugibayashi and I enjoy talking with her about my future plans and whatever else is going on in life. I plan on continuing to see her and urge you to give her a shot if you're looking for an OBGYN. read more

I had an excellent OB and was terrified about finding a new one. My PCP referred me to Dr. Sugibayashi and though I was reluctant, I met with her. I was 16 weeks pregnant, and was a mess emotionally and mentally. Dr. Sugibayashi was always patient, kind, and never judgemental. She referred me to get help, and I'm feeling 1000x better. I'm now 28 weeks pregnant and she is still so comforting, supportive, and understanding. I HIGHLY recommend seeing her! read more

I've had to take some time to debate whether or not I should review her or not, but after about 3-4 years with Dr. Sugibayashi and kind of sketchy deals, and thinking about having a family in the near future was enough to switch to another doctor. This review is to help prevent other patients from possibly going through what I went through with her. When I first went to her, I was prescribed with a certain type of BCP which was the highly probably cause of a mini stroke or TIA (this was coming from the ER doctors and neurologist there). After my mini stay at the hospital, I eventually went back to see her. She was very standoffish and very cold. It made me feel as if she was defensive for what had happened (and at no time did I ever confront her about it or talk to her in that type of manner about the BCP being the probable cause of the mini stroke). I kind of shrugged it off at the time because I didn't want to deal with more things or finding a new doctor, I just wanted to be able to get a check up and then be on my way. Just this past year though, was the last needle on the haystack. My husband and I are thinking about possibly starting a family and I was worried with that mini stroke being a part of my medical history. I brought this up with Dr. Sugibayashi and she just shrugged me off saying, "Don't worry about it, just come back to us when you're pregnant, we will handle it when the time comes." WHAT. THE. HECK. I don't think I was being too paranoid or worried when I was just taking precautions being that I would have a high risk pregnancy because of that TIA. She wasn't even willing to entertain my worries or even be empathetic and refer me to talk to other specialists to get the okay. Then, on top of it, when I asked if I should take prenatal vitamins and such, she said, "Nah, you don't need to. For my second one I barely remembered to take it. I think it's just a way for them to make money." -___- just a disclaimer, people. I am now happily with another doctor who takes my concerns seriously and who's understanding. The end. read more

Let me be brief in my explanation; however, these are just words, so, for the first time ever (because Shera deserves justice) I am extending my hand and ear to you whomever may be reading this. She cares for more than a thorough exam. You WILL receive a comprehensive examination and explanation of her exam. This is a given, though in today's world... it's not often you receive adequate information. Shera cares for you as a professional, furthermore, she sincerely cares for you and your spouse/partner/family. I had SO MANY questions that I thought she would be angry at my manly stupidity yet she never was phased. She is calm and mellow. She is personable. She is a mother of (soon to be) two children. She knows first hand what you are feeling, how to treat, and if she can't personally do it, she will refer you to a specialist of her preference. (Her selection of doctors is thoroughly dissected to ensure you receive the best care possible). My wife gave birth at 42 (and I, her husband, at 48) to our son and he's so healthy and laughing all the time at our never changing inmature playfulness that has been the cornerstone to our 21 year marriage. You need fun to make a family work. Laugh!! I assisted in the birth and I was taken aback by what was going on. Shera was calm, cool, and, yes, collected in professionalism with a really sincere smile the entire time. We love her as a doctor. I recommend SHERA to EVERYONE reading this. If you're reading this, you care to find the best. If you can't receive Shera as a doctor, don't fret. Dr. Laurie Asato is her partner and they work like two cogs of the same machine: synchronized to perfection. We have worked with both and they are SO perfect for a "mother-to-be" and her dazed-and-confused husband (or partner/family). I was SO lost yet her calm demeanor kept me in one piece. Note: I suffer from sever Anxiety Disorder from a PTSD incident in the military and both Laurie and Shera kept me in-the-loop, updated, answered my insane questions, answered my calls at all hours, and is a Super OB-GYN for all your womanly needs. Her calming demeanor is truly relaxing and would calm even the most insane person. (No, I'm not insane. hah!!) Take my advice. I am not "telling" you to do anything you may not want to do, so feel free to e-mail me at home and we can answer your questions before you decide. Note: The person at the front desk is a bit "rough around the edges" currently, so, maybe she will be better when you call. If not, remember... you are not speaking to the medical staff, just the front desk check-in person. I hope you liked my review. Earlier in the month I had the pleasure of meeting my new doctor, Shera Sugibayashi! I found her friendly, knowledgeable and great working personality. The staff was amazing and she quickly and professionally examined me, ordered my necessary tests to keep me in good but old working order. You may have to wait awhile for an appointment, she's one of the few that accept AARP supplemental insurance and Medicare. I recommend her for your "women's needs". read more

I miss Dr. Tina Chun. I had no idea what a gem I just stumbled years ago and just by chance. She was an excellent listener and did not pass judgement. Really I felt that she was a friend that I could trust. I was excited for her as the years went by and I saw her have her daughters one by one. Then, it was very hard to watch her struggle with her health and I was overwhelmed that she was still so dedicated to her patients. After Dr. Chun sadly passed away. I was happy to have Dr. Harris. I wish I could say the same for Dr. Sugibayashi. I have given her quite a few chances, but I am done. I will find another doctor. I just found her to be a bit cold. She has lectured me a few times which I don't appreciate and her solution for everything seems to be BCPs or anti-depressants even after I said I really don't want to take any pharmaceuticals. I'm really surprised to see Dr. Sugibayashi's rating so low here on Yelp! She's an amazing Dr. who takes her time with you. And when you tell Dr. Sugibayashi what's going on, she really listens. Yes, the front desk seems to have trouble answering the phone from time to time. But it's not enough to stop me from seeing such an amazing Dr. I should probably mention too, because this is important to me, that the office itself is also kept very clean. I really don't understand why most of the reviews here about Dr. Sugibayashi and her staffs are bad. I've been to their office a lot of times and NOT one time did her staff gave me an attitude or hard time about my insurance. I have HMSA HMO and when i scheduled my very first appt the person who answered my call was really nice and helpful and explained to me why referrals are needed for HMO insurance. That is because they need it to send claims to the insurance in order for the insurance to pay our doctor's visit. Dr. Sugibayashi is a really nice doctor. She listens and care about her patients. My appt was rescheduled once or twice because Dr. Sugibayashi needs to go to the hospital to deliver a baby but her staff ALWAYS calls me ahead of time to either wait for doctor to come back or to be rescheduled which is really nice. I highly recommend seeing her for those patients who are looking for a nice and friendly doctor. read more

What a waste of my time and money. Told Dr. Shera Sugibayashi my issues and the answers she gave me, I could've just googled it! That's not the worst part! I drove in from Ewa for a 10:45 appointment at the Queens POB 3. Didn't get to see the doctor until 11:15. We talked for 5 minutes then she left the room and made me wait. I became irate and I told her that I hope she doesn't bill me for this visit (especially after making me wait). In a sarcastic and rude voice she said "Oh you WILL get billed." Dr. Tina Chun (best OBGYN) delivered my babies and after she passed away, Dr Reina Harris became my doctor whom I really liked. When Dr. Harris left, I got stuck with Dr. Shera Sugibayashi. I will definitely take my business and excellent health plan somewhere else! read more

I personally love Dr. Sugibayashi. She has been my doctor for years and even delivered my son. I needed to get scheduled for an appointment with some concerns I had. In the process I had to schedule my annual exam. (I thought maybe I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone?) I finally get through and the receptionist is very rude. I asked if I was able to get checked next week by Dr. Sugibayashi while doing my pap, and if not no problem I'll just see her for my concern and schedule for July (when my pap was due.) She immediately started giving me attitude stating that my insurance only covers an annual once a year so I would have to schedule for that. I said I understand, and asked if I could I schedule for my other concerns? She said do you really have a concerns because we have to schedule accordingly. (No shit..) I was like OK yes I do please do you have anything next week,,, (Stressing my urgency) She just stated "No." Didn't give me any options either. I simply told her alright I'll call back to schedule when I'm available. It's safe to say that even though I love Dr. Sugibayashi, it was that incident that made me feel unwelcomed, especially if I have personal concerns going on... As a woman we have needs that we would like addressed right? Anyway. I have found a new physician that is able to see me next week. Hopefully she will learn and understand that we all have worries as a patient that you should take seriously. I work in the medical field, and its common sense that you need to sympathize with your patients or you may lose them altogether. read more

Moved from NY back to Oahu and needed to find a new OBGYN while being 3 months pregnant. Came from a recommendation of my grandmother who currently has Dr. Sugibayashi as her OB. She has been great! Answers all of my questions, even if by phone, spends time with you, and remembers personal things about her patients which shows she cares. Her office staff has also been very kind and helpful, scheduling my ultrasounds for me and calling me for appointment reminders. One more doctor is in this office as well who I will see in 2 weeks because I will need to start rotating doctors but I heard great things from her as well and she answered my questions via phone when Dr. Sugibayashi was out. I definitely recommend this office! read more

If i could actually give no stars I would. This review isnt for the drs, its for the horrible service the medical assistants/receptionist provides. I actually love Dr. Sugibayashi and I hope she doesnt lose further business because of the dumb people in the front. First off theyre super un organized at the desk, I dont know how many times Ive had to call and play phone tag with them to even see if they got a referral from my primary doctor or even why I have to provide one at all, seeing as this was not my first appointment. In fact Ive been seeing the doctor for awhile, so for them to have to make me provide another referral when I have provided one in the past is absolutely ridiculous. On top of all of that, they NEVER i mean never return your calls. You can leave a million messages and not a single time will they call back....In a nut shell: not only are they incompetent but theyre rude as hell. read more

I don't even want to give her 1 star but I guess I will have to, but I very much so do not like this doctor and I luckily just found someone else, even though I am 28 weeks pregnant now (in my third pregnancy). Dr. Shera does make you wait a very long time, just to spend not even 5 minutes with you. She is not very personable at all. I will be brutally honest, I had an abortion with my very first pregnancy and she was very very judgmental after that and with my next pregnancy I had a visitor (one of my family members) in the room with me and instead of respecting my confidentiality and privacy she mentioned my first pregnancy and abortion choice right in front of her a few times. I don't know why I stuck with her this long, but I am definitely never going back and I don't recommend her to anyone that at least wants to feel comfortable with their doctor when giving birth. read more

I usually see Dr. Asato, but I have also seen Dr. Sugibayashi a couple of times. She is so nice and she really made me feel comfortable. I called the office when I got mastitis a few months ago, and Dr. Sugibayashi called me back right away and was able to help me out immediately. read more
