I've been seeing Dr. Hew for almost 4 years and just had my last appointment with her today (due to moving back to the mainland). Her staff is so courteous and welcoming. They remember my daughter's name and ask how she is doing each time I have an appointment. With the new renovations to the POB 1 parking garage they no longer validate tickets. However, with the one hour grace period for garage parking, I no longer have to pay! woot woot! I simply take a ticket, park, and then scan my ticket when leaving. Dr. Hew's office is located on the 8th floor of the POB building. Since COVID I've only waited in the waiting room by myself. Hand sanitizer is located both outside the office door and at the check-in desk. Due to COVID-19 social distancing there can only be four people per elevator, and one of the elevators is currently down for repairs. So plan to arrive early or take the stairs! Dr. Hew explains everything so well, answers all my questions. If seeing her for a pregnancy I highly recommend scheduling appointments pretty far out so you can get the times/dates you want-I always tried to go first thing in the morning. read more

Dr. Hew knows me all too well and I think I should be so lucky to have such an understanding and easy-going OBGYN. She's delivered both my sons so far and she's got one more to go in July. If you're looking for a mellow, easy-going OB then she's the one for you. Whenever there is a problem or decisions to be made as far as medication or other choices she calmly and efficiently lays out all of the options and advises you on which is best but then makes you feel comfortable with whatever you decide. During my 2 deliveries she was an excellent coach while I pushed my freekin' guts out. No matter what she always remains calm so therefore I always remained calm and she doesn't allow herself to freek out at all. Her staff is also excellent. Camille and Joyce are her right hand girls and are so "real." By this I mean that they have off days just like you and me so sometimes I have to ask, "Are you still sleeping?" Dr. Hew is amazing! She's so down-to-earth and she takes the time to get to know her patients. I've been going to her for almost five years now. It seems that her front desk staff has improved, and I haven't experienced any recent negative interactions. Her office is located in POB 1 at Queens Hospital, and parking is located in the POB 1 structure ($1 for every 30 minutes with validation). Her appointments usually run on time, so I've never had to sit in the waiting room for too long. NOTE: my prior Yelp review of Dr. Hew has garnered the MOST "Likes" of any other review of her plus over 300 views. It pains me to have to write a negative review about her staff. So I temporarily left Hawaii to finish law school on mainland in 2015 since my kids were older. I come back to Hawaii earlier this year and I call Dr. Hew's office to schedule my yearly check-up. Three calls, never a callback, and still no appointment scheduled because the girls who answer the phone are clueless and don't really care. They claim I'm a "New" patient plus my mainland PPO insurance is not accepted. My mainland insurance, the largest and most comprehensive coverage in the nation - UnitedHealth Care PPO covers ALL out-of-network physicians by giving me a HSA Visa credit card with minimum $6000 annually. I even offer to pay my annual visit in cash knowing I can file a reimbursement to my PPO. I explain to the girls that Dr. Hew delivered both my children and knows my complex history having performed 2 cesarean sections, that I'm 46 and not likely or planning to get pregnant again. I request that the girls discuss with Dr. Hew before completely turning me away and I would not consider another OB now that I've returned to Hawaii. The last call I attempted again and the girl who answered the phone promised Dr. Hew would call me to discuss by the following Monday. No call back yet and it's very disappointing Dr.Hew employs staff who are cold and non-compassionate towards her patients, and/or doesn't communicate effectively with her. I understand Dr. Hew is skilled, busy and popular, but it seems her phone staff unilaterally refuses patients access if they are older or does not have HMSA insurance and will even turn away cash payments for non-pregnancy services. After being on the mainland and having higher quality coverage that doesn't refuse or undercut my health and wellness, I'm not about to switch back to local insurance. So many physicians are leaving Hawaii because insurance like HMSA undercut payments even on basic medical services. It truly pains me to write this negative review of Dr. Hew's staff because she really is a skilled physician in my experiences with her and she is such an important component of my children's existence and my health today despite two cesarean sections. I would have been a new patient to Doctor Hew.... Unfortunately, I may not even ever go to see Doctor Hew and might not ever meet her... As my first contact with Christine, a receptionist was very indelicate and unhelpful ... Wich really disappointed me as I had read so nice reviews and comments not only on Doctor Hew but her"lovely" staff... So... I spoke to Christine and had an appointment booked with Doctor Hew the soonest, next year... But was experiencing some strange symptoms right now... And asked if I could be taken earlier... She said no... Then I asked if there were any cancellations if she could put me on a list and let me know... But she said " no cancellation list"... Then, I asked her if she could eventually help me and maybe recommend me to another doctor who might take me sooner... Or if she knew where I could go as an emergency... Or in wich hospital.... TO ALL THIS... SHE SAID "NO SORRY I DON'T KNOW!...." I think it is terrible... As I also told her that I was only in Oahu since almost one year now... So... Still very new... And as I described my symptoms to her... Really bad and disappointing! Might even call back and cancel my appointment with doctor Hew who apparently seems to be very good.... So... Then I rang another Doctor's office Doctor Angela Pat... And the receptionist here, was just very helpful straight away... Excellent doctor! I have been a long time patient of Dr. Hew's and have nothing but good things to say about her. However, the low stars are for her staff. The front office lady is not very personable, and can often sound really rude. I understand people have their off days, but I've gotten this treatment from her on multiple occasions. Is it hard to smile and be nice? Dr. Hew on the other hand is very sweet. Easy to talk to and very gentle. She makes you feel very comfortable asking questions. Dr. Hew is awesome. I have been seeing her for almost three years now, ever since I got pregnant with my first. My first impression of her was that she is very passionate and caring. I have never had any serious problems or complaints about her staff either. Dr. Hew was especially awesome when it came time to deliver my babies. As a first time mom, I didn't know what to expect when it came time to give birth. She coached me very well. She is normally a very soft spoken person but when it came time to push baby out, she firmly shouted "come on chanel, I know you push better than that!!" Over and over! For my second baby, it was much more calm and low key baby was out so quick and she told me she was proud of how well I did! She's awesome and I highly recommend her. read more

Finding a doctor is hard. Finding a doctor for your lady parts is even harder! You need to feel comfortable with them and feel at ease. Thankfully, Dr. Hew is just the right doctor! She's very patient. Makes you feel comfortable, and she's really gentle. Thank goodness!! She may look very young, but she seems so experienced, which is awesome! Her staff is great too. It's hard to write a review without saying the same things as everyone else. When I moved back home to Hawaii I had to find an OBGYN and that is one of the hardest things for a woman to do! After reading reviews here on Yelp I decided to try Dr. Hew first. I lucked out because nearly a year later she has been the best OBGYN I have had. I had to wait almost 2 months for my first appointment but it was worth the wait! A few weeks after my first visit with Dr. Hew I had to go back to confirm my pregnancy. I was surprised when she congratulated me with a hug. I've never had such a caring doctor before. She has never made me feel comfortable during a visit or with any decision I've made. She is very knowledgeable and informative. She never rushes during my visits and makes time to talk story a little. I live in Kapolei but drive to town to see Dr. Hew rather than just going to another doctor close by. The drive is worth a great care. If you are looking for a down-to-earth, caring, OBGYN with awesome bedside manner, I suggest Dr. Hew. read more

When my original OB/GYN retired, I thought "nooooooo!". He recommended me to Dr. Denise Hew who was taking over his office, and I'm so glad that he did. Comfortable office. Nice staff. It's impossible to get an appointment here. I booked my first gynecologist visit with Dr. Hew earlier this year. I thought I was lucky she was willing to see me during the pandemic, sure it was a few months out but I thought it was worth the wait since I've read some good reviews about her. Sadly a week before the appointment I got a call from their office and I had to reschedule to November. November comes and again a week before my appointment I got a call from their office saying I had to reschedule because they're closed on Veterans Day. The next earliest appointment would be in December. I was already having a bad day then I get this phone call. I flat out cancelled the appointment. This seems so unprofessional, they gave me Veterans Day as an option in the first rescheduling but now they tell me they're closed on that day. Who knows what will happen if I take the December appointment? Or any future appointment at that! With the way it's been going I expect to get rescheduled again! No thank you!! read more

Shes a great doctor! I trust her with my life/ babies life...She delivered my daughter last year 2016 and wow did I feel confident having her as my doc. Shes very , very thorough which I like and she doesn't rush you when u see her. There's always a little bit of a wait like 20 min at the least but, I don't mind because of how well/ personable she is with every patient. She has to be the best OB. She's calm and informative and supports all your decisions. She delivered my first child and will be delivering the second. When I delivered she calmly coached me through which also kept me sane considering the screaming lol. The office is in a convenient location especially if your delivering at queens just have to go to the bottom floor and your there which was a life saver cause that's what happened to me on delivery day. It's never crowded and the MA are so nice. I like the original MA and the exception of one MA temp but now there's a new temp which you can obviously tell she's still learning. read more

I found Dr. Hew via YELP and she herself got great ratings and was only dinged for her staff so I thought I'd give her a try. Making my initial appt. for my first pregnancy went very smoothly at first. A few days later Mallory from the front desk left me a voicemail and when I had called back she was sounded annoyed bc she had double booked my time slot and wanted me to reschedule. I have worked at a busy medical office at the front desk before and was more than willing to try and reschedule except the 2 dates she threw out at me I couldn't make (one was my move in date for my new house and the other I was going to be out of state). She said she would call me back and did saying I could keep my original appt. I said thank you and confirmed the date and time once again and when she hung up she didn't even say goodbye or anything along those lines as she still seemed "annoyed" about the situation. I was told my appt. was at 4pm and to show up 15 min. early to fill out their HIPPA forms. I downloaded and completed the other medical forms from their website prior to my appt. I got stuck in terrible traffic and showed up at 4pm (my appt time and HIPPA forms take 2 seconds to sign) and she said I was late and did not think the dr. would see me. She insisted my appt. was at 3:45 and I was told to come at 3:30 (which was not the case either time, scheduling seems to be difficult for Mallory). I restated the time I was told on 2 separate occasions and that even if they thought it was 3:45 I was only 15min. late and no one else was in their office. Furthermore, if they thought I was a "no show" after confirming I was holding on to my appt. I found it bizarre that they wouldn't call me. She was extremely rude and kept telling me I was 30 min. late (although she was saying my appt. was 3:45 which would have made me 15 min. late) and offered no apologies, not even an "I'm sorry for the confusion." etc. She went back and said the dr. could not see me. I asked to speak to the dr. and she said Dr. Hew went to a meeting, although I pointed out that my appt. would still be going on if it was a 3:45 so I don't understand how she could have scheduled a meeting. Mallory offered no apologies and continued to attempt to argue with me over the appt. time instead of rescheduling or being proactive. She was unprofessional, rude, was giving me the worst looks, and was very passive-aggressive. Needless to say I walked out extremely annoyed and will not be going to them ever again and would tell anyone who's considering to save themselves the headache. Now at 9 weeks I need to try and find another ob gyn who can get me in hopefully before I hit the 12 wk. mark. Dr. Hew seriously needs to consider re-staffing especially since that has been the only YELP complaint. read more
