I had made an appointment because I felt like my IUD had shifted and I don't live in the state where I got it inserted anymore. I made an appointment and waited a month to be seen, the day I called to make my appointment they took my insurance information and said my insurance was good before even scheduling an appointment with me. I finally get to my appointment- I sit in the waiting room for an hour only to be told Dr. Asato isn't in my network. I called my insurance since Dr. Asato was on the list of in network doctors my insurance company had provided only to be told I should have been seen since she is in network... not sure what happened there. Won't be going back. Pretty disappointed. Ended up going someplace else, my IUD did shift m, requiring same day attention. Glad I went elsewhere. 2 stars because I never saw Dr. Asato at all, 1 star for staff. read more

After losing my former OBGYN Dr Ushijima, I was on a hunt for a new dr. I've searched and read great reviews of Dr Asato. I called to make an appointment and the nurses were very pleasant. I didn't have to wait long for my initial visit. They are closed for lunch from 1230-130pm. As a new patient, the asked me to come in half hr early to register. Once checked in and papers filled out, the wait wasn't long. Dr Asato is busy. She walked into the exam room, introduced herself, we discussed any on going issues as it has been a few years since I've seen an OBGYN. Exam went well and all my questions were answered. Dr Asato indeed is a very pleasant and knowlegable person and should I have any questions before my next exam, I will be calling her office. (by the way, she did occupy the space of former Dr USHIJIMA office) and good drs are hard to find! She's a keeper. read more

I initially gave Dr. Asato (herself; not the office) 5 stars... but I've learned how much better my care could have been. This was my 3rd time getting Nexplanon, and due to the pandemic, I had to visit an office on the mainland. The doctor was shocked at how close to the skin, and how visible, my Nexplanon insert was that Dr. Asato had given me. Dr. Asato had told me that this was normal, and that as embarrassed and uncomfortable as I felt that you could see the contraceptive device in my arm, that I should just get used to it. My new doctor was able to put it beneath the skin further without getting it into my muscle, no problem. After 6 years, I had no idea that my original expectations were reasonable and that I didn't have to live with this device protruding the way that it did. Never coming back here. read more

I have no idea what these bad reviews are about at all. I've been seeing Dr. Asato for over a decade. I am extremely picky about my doctors. I have a plethora of health problems in general, a compromised immune system. I choose doctors and specialists that serve me well and not the ones that just do a general overall ok job of 15 minutes in the office pretend to know who you are and rush out to get the next patient type of doctor. Dr. Asato has never failed me. She is thorough and explains things when I ask. She has never made me feel uncomfortable especially in this OBGYN environment which can obviously get uncomfortable for anyone. She is funny, genuine, and the kindest doctor I have. She is seriously the best. The office staff is kind as well. I really get turned off when office staff has attitude, don't pay attention, or plain out don't care, but they do not do that here! They even send you reminders in the mail to let you know your yearly is coming up soon. They've recently moved into a relatively smaller space compared to their previous office, nothing bad at all. Still very clean as always. Cute decorations! Fun movies playing in the waiting room. All in an updated/not old and not creepy/very good vibes space. Personable doctor that explains well and has a kind demeanor. Staff members are friendly. I found out about Dr. Asato through my daughter, who highly recommended this doctor. Parking-the first hour is free at POB I. 2nd and 3rd hour is $3. I'm usually in and out in less than an hour. The office isn't overcrowded like my previous ob/gyn's. Updated: so I got my bill and I kid you not it's for $348.95. Mind you I'm fully insured and I have a plan that covers 90%. So now I know what going to this doctor costs me. At least I won't have to pay this again and go through this experience on an annual basis. Hopefully this review saves others from getting overcharged and from a bad experience. This was my teen daughter's first visit to a gynecologist and naturally she was nervous; so I accompanied her into the exam room. We waited almost 30 minutes to be seen. Finally when the doctor came in she went straight to sit on her stool and started talking to my daughter. She did not introduce herself first. I asked her a question and her reply was, "and you are?!?!" Now she would have known who I was if she introduced herself! She was cold and monotone throughout the appointment. She said what needed to be done and left the room....just like that; just left. We sat there not knowing if she was done with us or not. She didn't say "thank you", "see you next visit", etc. After waiting a while without anyone coming back in; I told my daughter to dress and we walked out. As we walked through the hall to get to the waiting room we approached the doctor and another staff person talking. I said, "Thank you" and she just looked at me "BUT" as I walked by I heard her say, "that's" her mother. She has no personality, in my opinion rude, unprofessional and belittling. Setting up an appointment was easy . I will be very honest as I aim to write the truth from my perspective when I write any reviews , I only made the appointment for a pap smear as my current pcp wanted one. I arrived at the office at 1:41pm. My appointment was at 2:00pm. Gave my insurance card and I'd for them to copy and filled out the paperwork which took 6 minutes. I only wrote vague answers but fairly accurate since I wasn't there for an annual then or in the future. They told me to fill it out quickly please. About 5 minutes later they called me back to check my weight and ask me a bunch of questions which again I gave vague but fairly accurate answers. They told me to go wait because they don't have a room available which went over 30 minutes and mind you I was waiting since 2:02pm!! They called 2 ladies who arrived AFTER me to be seen first and I was STILL waiting. Finally I asked how much longer is the wait because I need to go home to take my medication. They went back and didn't give me a quick answer so I walked out and left. They could have had the other 2 ladies wait. It was only going to take less than 5 minutes to do a stupid Pap smear. It's not like I'm asking for birth control or an annual. Anyway I have no desire to reschedule as I have better things to do with my time. This was the first time I walked out of an appointment. Maybe they were upset I missed my first appointment and had to reschedule or I wasn't there at 1:30pm but the appointment wasn't until 2pm so to me it's not something to get upset about. I have a life and some things take priority over a Pap smear being done. read more

Best doctor ever! My previous obgyn told me she was going to refer me to an endocrinologist when I was having problems but never did. Dr. Asato always follows up and she remembers things about me. She never made me feel rushed and she is very efficient at her job. There is also inspiring quotes on the wall and butterflies on the ceiling to help ease the apprehension of the examination. I'm really going to miss her since I'm losing my hmsa coverage since I'm going to be employed by kaiser but I'm definitely planning on going back to her once I get dual coverage. read more

You're looking for medical care, not a new friend, I get that, so a sparkling personality probably isn't a priority when choosing a doctor. But it's smart to steer clear of one who is consistently cold and patronizing or has no memory of you from one visit to the next. I was 20 weeks pregnant and super excited about my visit. She got all my information wrong, including my due date, even though I had gone through great efforts to fax my info to Laurie Asato. The first thing she commented on was my weight, even though I was perfectly healthy for my height she told me that if I kept gaining my baby would have diabetes. She was extremely belittling, asking me how many scoops of rice I have with my meals! She also said that if my baby weighed more than 8 pounds she would have to do a C-section. She then threw some pediatrician papers on my lap, and left the room. She didn't even bother to mention my previous fetal diagnostic appointment, where the doctors said my baby was doing excellent. I quickly left very sad and upset, knowing how much effort I had gone through to get this appointment. Luckily now I have a super doctor who says me and baby are doing superb! updated. I delivered my baby. Dr. Asato was amazing. There are two docs at the practice, so you get whoever is on call when you go into labor. Although I always felt closet to Sugibayashi, my regular, Dr. Asato delivered my baby and was amazing. AMAZING. She was supportive, kind, and I really can't say enough good things about her. I had wanted a natural childbirth, which their practice allowed, but after 36 hours in labor, I was like FORGET IT PLEASE JUST GIVE ME THE DRUGS. And they did. And they were wonderful. But by the time it came to push, I was so, so tired. Two hours of pushing. And Dr. Asato looked in my eyes, and that was my focus. It was the best delivery a woman could ask for. The staff has always been outstanding and has watched my baby during follow ups. I will sing praises about this practice until I am dead. My entire pregnancy was perfect, every ultrasound and followup I felt safe and listened to. When I said I wanted to go bradly, I could tell my doctors were...not fans, but they never said anything. They told me certain things I had to agree to delivery at Queens, (like, if my water breaks and I haven't dilated enough, eventually they have to use drugs). But they asked for a birth plan, and never treated me poorly. I did feel Dr. Asato was a "down to business" kind of lady... but let me tell you, when you are pushing a 9.5 lb baby out, down to business is what I needed. Anyway...yeah. Go here. I had a NIGHTMARE experience with a previous doctor who delivered my baby and was looking for someone who cares about people ... Dr. Asato cares. She always takes her time to answer my questions, she remembers who I am, and she genuinely cares about my well being. Coming from someone who almost died at the hands of another doctor after my labor, I thank my lucky stars for finding Dr. Asato! My sister switched over to her and she loves Dr Asato too. I don't understand these awful reviews at all. I've been a patient of Dr. Asato's for 2+ yrs and am currently 23 weeks pregnant. Not only is she super friendly and informative, but when I've had concerns and called her office, she has spoken to me directly or returned my calls very quickly. I actually had an appointment this morning and was seen 10 minutes early. i never wait past my appointment time to be seen, but i have a habit of arriving super early, haha. I'm only giving her 4 stars vs. 5 because I dislike the area and parking structure in which her office is located. It's a bit of a pain. As for her as a physician, she's great! Trust me on this, I'm a military spouse and spent years seeing military "doctors".. I KNOW a bad doc when I meet one! read more

I was so blessed to have Dr. Laurie as my doc during pregnancy. She was perfect, kind, accurate, and so personable. I wish I could've flew her to Guam to catch my baby, but she did what she could when I was in HI. Can she be my OB doctor for every pregnancy and follow me where ever I'm living?!! I wish. I used to see Dr. Tina Chun in this office but she unfortunately passed away last year, then her partner Reina Harris also left - leaving these young new OBs in charge. Last summer, I went in for my annual exam and sat in the waiting room for at least 25 minutes, and after the waiting room vacated and I finally getting into an exam room - I waited another 15-20 minutes while I could hear the assistants and doctors giggling and talking outside while I'm waiting patiently for the doctor to come in. I finally opened the door in my gown and asked when someone was going to see me. Either Asato or Sugibayashi saw me but I don't remember because i was already so annoyed at the service. Previously, I had to wait here and there too so I think the office has a history of "overbooking" clients. So I'm not running back to see them and am looking for a new OB now. read more

It is very unfortunate that Dr. Chun was replaced by this young freshly graduate dr. Guess having the experience in the field would make you care for your patients unlike this very rude dr. I only saw her once and she definitely made a lasting unforgettable impression. I saw her when I had been experiencing pain inside my reproductive system but she put those pain aside&insulted me. Yes parking situation is not the best, But what business in Honolulu/Hawaii has the perfect Parkin situation? For me this was an issue at first but once I got the hang of where parking is and got to go there a few times is now a breeze. I have been seeing DR Asato since 2012 now, And although some times I had to wait a little over my scheduled appointment in order to be seen, I did Not mind because having a Drs appointment for me means I don't have to be at work. :). Once I became pregnant (this year ) and I get to see her more often thing a have been a bit different. Staff has always been friendly and helpful but now they know my name , Doctor and staff always ask if I have questions or concerns to discuss , I have never felt disrespected or a lack of professionalism from their end and although she is very young I feel confident that DR. Asato knows what she is doing. I especially appreciate not being pressured when talking about decisions such as pre pregnancy vaccines and such. Also , I was considered overweight (according to the BMI) before getting pregnant but I exercise regularly and eat healthy and all my tests are always normal so this is not a big concern for me. Once I became pregnant I was worried this would be an issue with the baby but I have not gained much weight and am now almost 5mths (20 wks) pregnant. Doctor does not seem worried and does not comment about my weight. (Which is refreshing since I cannot say the same about my PCP). Everything is going well so far and am happy with the services I receive from Dr Asato and her staff. I always get the information I need and the support necessary from her as my OBGYB. People need to be less emotional about little things and stop complaining so much. Looks at all those baby pictures by the weigh/blood pressure area!!, AND she has had no negative reports with any health board!! So that is a plus for me. ;)) read more

This was my first visit to a gynecologist/obstetrician and she was great!!! I had to get a pap&mammogram exam, and with this being my first exam after consultation-she went step by step in everything she was doing as she did the exam which I really liked about her. She made me feel okay about everything, and her employees were also friendly. She has great employees. read more

I was 7 weeks pregnant in November when I first visited Dr. Asato. My husband and I were super excited about the baby. However, I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I called Dr. Asato when I had some spotting, but she's not available and never return my call. I went to the ER the next morning. Sure enough, I had a miscarriage. I called her office the next day and told them what happened. Her nurse/receptionist said" so you don't need to come for your next appointment then, and I will cancel your ultrasound appointment as well." I was shocked that they didn't even follow up with the ER and wanted to cancel my appointment. I told the nurse that I wanted to see Dr. Asato to make sure my body is okay. She finally kept my appointment. During the week of my miscarriage, Dr. Asato hasn't contacted me at all. She left me a message and asked why I missed my ultrasound appointment. Obviously she's too "busy" to follow up with the ER. When I went to see her, she didn't show any sympathy or caring about my miscarriage. She never called me to follow up after my last appointment (I had to google on what to do after a miscarriage.) Just like what it says on other reviews, she's cold and unprofessional. I was very disappointed with her. Even my dentist called me to follow up after they did my root canal.. A miscarriage is way more serious than that.. both physically and emotionally. If you don't want to put your baby at risk, please choose a different doctor who truly cares about you and your baby.There are many many great doctors out there. Best of luck. read more
