I had a horrible experience with Dr. Pratt. Like others here, she came highly recommended and was even written up in magazines as the best ob/gyn in Honolulu. At my very first appointment (I was about 9 weeks along) she seemed so kind and friendly and like she was actually genuinely excited and happy for us.
Then things started to go down hill, as every single one of my appointments were canceled or rescheduled after that (because of the office calling me to reschedule, not because I needed to reschedule!) Most without 24 hours notice. In total, 6 out of 7 of my appointments were rescheduled. This was an issue because I was a waitress and I needed to give my job two weeks notice of any appointments that would require me to be off the schedule for that shift. But it was something I was willing to look past.
Then, her receptionist, Bonnie, started to be outlandishly rude to me. When I was about 5 months pregnant, she told me I owed them about $500, completely out of the blue. Turns out, she had been mailing my insurance claim to the wrong P.O. box. Again, not because I had made and error, but because she had. She told me I needed to find a new ob/gyn because they didn't want me there... with NO prior notice or anything that she had trouble with filing my insurance. I called my insurance before I even left the office and they said there was no problem and Angela Pratt was covered and even offered to speak to Bonnie.
Still, not THAT big of a deal - but it's still scary to be refused from your ob/gyn's office when you're already 5 months along and it's your first pregnancy.
Then she kept forgetting to save me a flu shot, and forgot whether she gave me the flu shot or not. Which was a little scary, since she's my doctor.
The worst of the worst came when I was 7 months pregnant. I had been having scary abdominal pains and was worried about the baby. I called physician's exchange and she just told me to wait to come in tomorrow for my regularly schedule appointment (the monthly appointment that had been scheduled over a month before). I came into her office, still with pains, when they told me to go in the back and remove my clothes so she could examine me. I waited for an hour and a half in the examination room with no clothes on - even calling my mother to ask her if this was normal and if this ever happened to her when she was pregnant. Finally a nurse came in and said "I'm sorry, Dr. Pratt can't see you today, she was just called to delivery, we have to reschedule, unless you would like to wait for her to come back."
I explained that I had been having abdominal pains and was worried about the baby so I would wait for her. I didn't want to leave until I knew the baby was ok and the pain was normal. The nurse seemed annoyed that I said I would wait and left.
About ten minutes later Dr. Pratt came in, not in scrubs or anything, but with heels and perfect make-up and hair... definitely looking like it was an office day for her, and not like she had just been delivering a baby. I started to say "Oh thank god you could see me, I'm worried about these pains" but she cut me off and said:
"This is a private practice. I don't think you fit in here and you need to find a new ob/gyn." She just said it. My mouth dropped open. I was still sitting there in the little paper outfits they give you when they ask you to take your clothes off.
"But I'm worried about these pains, can you please just tell me if the baby is alright?" at this point I was actually crying in front of her. I was terrified. It can take months to find a new ob/gyn and I was already 7 months pregnant with my first baby!
"No, I can't." She said.
"But I don't understand what happened." I said.
"This is a private practice and I don't think we're a good fit." She repeated.
"But why?" my boyfriend asked.
"You don't need to yell at me, sir." she said.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't yelling." he said. Then she turned around and started writing on her clip board. She didn't even leave the room to allow me to get dressed in private, I just got dressed scared and crying and worried about my baby and then booked it out of there as fast as I could, embarrassed and concerned and devastated that I suddenly had no ob/gyn and didn't know why.
The next Saturday, after I already scheduled an appointment with another doctor (Dr. Savala) Dr. Pratt called me and said she had a little bit of a nervous breakdown and was sorry for kicking me out of her office when she knew I was having abdominal pains. She said if I wanted to come in Monday at 8 am she would check to make sure the baby was alright. I had scheduled a "babymoon" with my boyfriend till Tuesday so I couldn't make Monday at 8 am - the only time she offered.
Since this happened, I have heard almost the exact same story from OTHER women who had this happen to them with Dr. Pratt! If this is your doctor, I just hope you're on her good side, because I would hate for this to happen again. read more
