Dr. Kam was the first doctor who truly took action. On my very first visit, he personally arranged for me to see a pulmonologist that same morning, without a prior appointment. That level of care and advocacy is rare. Because of Dr. Kam, my asthma is now well controlled, and my quality of life has completely changed. I wanted something else and he replied, "Get rid of your animals." BH! Saw another Dermatologist after a year putting up with 5FU covered up, washing hands, laundry not to contaminate my animals...and it didn't work at ALL- in fact it spread so now I need surgery. Did NOT return here. There ARE other options for meds and removal of skin cancers you know! Lesions were removed with MOH surgery. Don't recommend this physician, sorry.

I was MISdiagnosed there 2 YEARS when I had lymphoma UNDER shrapnel from an Iraq War wound. I was told, "You are getting OLD, and it's an old war wound..." DISSED for 2 YEARS??%$#@! finally, I went outside w/Medicare, got a proper diagnosis, (CANCER in that bone under the 'old war wound'), and referred for treatment-- finally the V.A. got involved because I threatened to go to the press if they didn't take over. The docs at St. Francis radiation center were GREAT. But nothing worked as it's a rare cancer and it didn't respond to radiation, and kept coming back. Finally, with MY research (I'm a retired surgeon) I found a treatment that may work for me and they referred me on after my oncologist AGREED. MAHALO PRES. TRUMP for 'Care in The Community', as we can now go to outside docs if we live far away--and they took me seriously, I got treatment the V.A. doesn't have anyway--and they listened to me, treating me with respect as a fellow doc. PALI MOMI WAS THE LATEST DOC TO SEE FOR BONE SURGERY--a big surgery, a VERY long 18 month recovery=MAJOR. I saw Dr. Aratani, who is highly specialized in ortho and oncology--one of only 2 on island. She was enthusiastic about my research, said YES--and referred me on to Queens for one treatment before she operates...but PALI MOMI WAS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. I was pretty lost there as I never go to Aiea, living in Kahalu'u, and it's grown so much all my old landmarks are GONE--but after finally finding it, employees directed me every step of the way as to where to go, what building/floor/etc. OMG! That NEVER happens @ the V.A. I was totally--no lie--slack jawed by the time I got to her office! EVERYONE was so FRIENDLY--and not put on--I mean genuinely friendly, helpful...as my leg HURTS and walking HURTS...so so many folks there offered to help..I am BLOWN AWAY. It is BY FAR, the BEST medical facility I have EVER been in--and after getting wounded, I've had 15 surgeries, multiple scars/shrapnel/debility...etc. I just am very impressed=PERIOD. He texted me needing a lift from Pali Momi Medical Center (PMMC) to his home just off Kinau Street. PMMC opened its doors in July 1989 and has been servicing Central and West Oahu. It was originally opened as Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi until rebranded as PMMC in 2010. They are conveniently located in Aiea just down the road from Pearlridge Shopping Center. It was my first time here and was impressed with the upkeep of the grounds. Because my friend just had a procedure to the day prior, a hospital staff wheeled him via wheelchair to the pickup/drop off area. I was amazed by the hospital's attention to patient's condition, consideration and service extended. Although the pickup was a fairly quick process, the setback I encountered was leaving. There were 2 parked cars in front of me and it didn't seem the cars would be leaving soon. Furthermore, the right hand lane was too narrow where I couldn't pass them. My only option was to back up and exit via the far left lane. Thank goodness there was no car behind me otherwise I would have been in a standstill. Overall, impressed with my first visit to PMMC, with the exception of their pickup and drop off area. 2026 #60

I called and left a voicemail message to relate my daughter's symptoms and that I was bringing her in without an appointment. When we arrived, we were told it would be a wait since we are walk-ins. I did explain that she is in pain and they said the doctor will see her as soon as possible. 45 minutes later she is taken into a room. 20 minutes after that, still no doctor. There was absolutely no consideration of urgency for a patient in need of immediate care. Even after I brought this to his attention, he still made no effort to see her. Do not go to this doctor, he and his staff do not care!!

Refused to complete a full panel because it "was an economic problem and I'm not going to spend money for one patient." Talked over me and interrupted me the entire time. It took everything in me not to tell him to treat me with respect. Worst of all, he used my BUTT as a clipboard. I can't imagine any doctor doing that to a male patient. It was absurd. Do not go here. This behavior would never fly on the mainland. He is only employed because he has a short waiting list (I wonder why?) and there are so few specialists on island. In terms of medical care, he forgot about me after giving the pin test, rendering the result invalid. Clearly he messed up, because I've gone to other allergists before and I am severely allergic to cats and dogs, but the result came out negative. The place is just a money mill, as evidenced by the dad running in and out of rooms. He refused to order a blood test for the full panel, too. The explanation is because he would not be willing to give me allergy shots for it (due to "economic reasons.") His obligation is to complete a full test regardless of whether it will result in financial benefit. It's my right to know what I'm allergic to, but he doesn't want me to take those test results to a different doctor who would be able to provide actual care based on the results of a full allergy panel. Apparently he has a reputation for being an incompetent jerk. The employees at the lab said as much.

We took him to the best Doctors and Specialists we could find and ran all the tests we could. We decided to fly our son to Queens Hospital to see an allergist to no avail. The Doctors ran allergy tests, skin prick tests, thyroid test, blood tests, liver ultrasounds. The only allergens found were to dust mites, roaches, & scallops. He also had secondary reactions to steroids and antibiotics given to him at the hospital. We were told it was idiopathic anaphylaxis and we would most likely never find the cause or the cure. He was instructed to carry epi-pens at all times. Our son has since had 3 more anaphylactic episodes the last one in November of 2017. We decided to seek alternative help and contacted Dr. Kushner. Dr. Kushner met with me first and just listened to me for over and hour about the events leading up to my son's first episode. It was so nice to be heard for a change. We set up an appointment for my son at a later date. Dr. Kushner spent several hours just talking and listening to our son. It was a breath of fresh air to have someone who actually listened. After Dr. Kushner gathered all the information & lab results she formulated a plan to help our son. He has since lost more than 23 pounds, the visible inflammation throughout his body has been drastically diminished, and most importantly of all he has not had an anaphylactic episode since we started with Dr. Kushner. His last episode was the one he had in November 2017 and It will be June 2018 this Friday. This will be the longest stretch that our son has had no anaphylaxis. I was one of those unknown cases a few years back that my General Practitioner and Internist at the time both couldn't figure out, so I was referred to Dr. Lehman, who was an MD specializing in allergy and immunology. From the first visit with Dr. Lehman, I was relieved to see that he was a very nice Doctor with great bedside manners. He was very thorough during the exam and made sure that he explained how allergies and the immune system work all hand in hand. I know that there are many skeptical practitioners and Doctors out there about allergists, but all I can say that after working with Dr. Lehman and having him do a complete skin allergy testing on me and bringing me down to a singular source diet for a few weeks, he has completely helped me. I have since returned to a very regular diet and my hives and lip swellings have completed disappeared, and I have been living seven years free of any type of allergic reactions. All I can say is that you can't knock it until you try it yourself.
