This is not a rushed or impersonal medical office. Dr. Takemoto-Gentile takes his time, listens carefully, and genuinely treats patients as partners in their own care. What we appreciate most is that he is open-minded, thoughtful, and flexible in his approach -- willing to consider different options, explain things clearly, and work collaboratively instead of dictating from a distance. His ego is completely in check; he is not the stereotypical "doctor who knows best" but someone who welcomes patient input and encourages dialogue. Over the years we have received various supportive wellness treatments in the office -- including vitamin C IVs, glutathione pushes, and B12 shots -- all administered in a professional, medically supervised setting. He approaches these treatments responsibly and integrates them into a broader understanding of overall health and prevention. We have always felt safe, heard, and well cared for. Another major benefit is that the practice has a clinical lab on-site, which means patients can get many tests done right there in the office instead of traveling all over Honolulu. So disheartened to see all the bad reviews on here. To bring some clarity, I am a female patient and recently went back to this office, after not seeing a regular doc for years (maybe like 5) and decided to see Dr. Takemoto's daughter, Krishanna. Before that, I did have Dr. Curtis as my main PCP, but as I got older, just felt it would be more appropriate and comfortable for me to see a female. Thru seeing Dr. Krishanna the past year+, I can say that she is exemplary about being thorough, allowing you to ask all questions, and is even a certified gyno = double win for me not having to see multiple docs (I do everything in a single visit)!! My mom also decided to reestablish this as her PCP office, but now Dr. Krishanna as her main PCP, even though she now lives on the Big Island. She has wonderful bedside manner, and does very extensive testing on you to make sure everything is in order. Each year I do a blood exam to check my levels and if something's off - like my Vitamin D, she'll add it to my repertoire. My mom also has hyperthyroid and Krishanna took great care to check all her meds, bloodwork, and other testing measures, etc to prescribe new supplements. Even my husband and a few friends now see this office - and ALL have raved about how great their care is, along with be extensive and holistic - not just looking at symptoms, but treating the whole body and looking for more natural options first. I've probably referred a total of 3 folks now (with more friends still waiting to get in), and they are all VERY happy with their care. Cant speak to Dr. Curtis as he's not my main PCP anymore (used to be about 10 years ago - and had no issues!) - but my husband sees him and had nothing but positive things to say. I can certainly say that Dr. Krishanna, however, goes above and beyond to make you feel like more than a number and explains and takes a lot of time during your visit. 10/10!!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Curtis for over 10 years, and I have appreciated his more holistic approach to medicine, with supplements rather than relying solely on medication. I especially appreciated the bio-identical HRT (hormone replacement) that he put me on as soon as I hit menopause, and I had almost zero menopause symptoms, so much so that at 55 I feel the best I've ever felt - more energy, sleep better, and live a rich life. Then 2 days prior to the first appointment, Janice called and said we were dumped because our UHC insurance is Community Plan and they only accept regular UHC. My father in law and husband has been going to Dr Takemoto's for a long time. The office is located on King Street between Pucks Alley and 7-11. Dr. Takemoto's office is in a small two story building with a limited parking spaces in the back of the building. There's three different ways to enter the building, one from three parking and two on the street side. If entering from the parking lot, you'll enter the stairway area that is beautifully decorated with photographs. It's not your usual stairway. Then you enter another door to the reception area. The front two entrances brings you into that peaceful environment that is filled with art and a long reception desk with friendly staff. You feel like you've left the hustle and bustle of the world once you enter the building. Each of the examining room is decorated with beautiful art and plants. It really doesn't feel like an exam room. Dr Takemoto is friendly, humorous and patient while talking to his patients. My father in law being 100yr old, very hard of hearing and a weird sense of humor, was very happy when Dr Takemoto laughed at his jokes. read more

Used to be fabulous but, sadly, turned awful during Covid. (This is re Dr. Curtis.) BEFORE: The best bedside manner. Our parents perked up immensely whenever they saw him. He took his time explaining their conditions and treatments. He showed kindness, depth of knowledge, sense of humor, and compassion. AFTER: Defensive, offensive, sneaky, and mixed up. Made decisions for our parents behind our backs (they have dementia; we are their family with medical POAs) and directed the care home staff without informing us. Talked stink about us behind our backs. (The nurses told us, bless their hearts.) Kept mentioning their anemia, which they don't have, and never had. Talked about medications that he said they were on, but weren't. Wanted to prescribe a new medication, and when we asked about the possible side effects, he took offense and actually YELLED at us, "They could die!" CONCLUSION: It's understandable that the pandemic brought about stress even for doctors, but the way it manifested was shocking. Saddening, because he was truly wonderful for many years. And it's difficult to write this, but it feels necessary to warn folks: If you or your loved ones are counting on a doctor to help you with elderly relatives who don't have agency, you'd be gambling with this one. read more

I was having some issues, heard Dr.Takemoto was the one to see. I gave him a try and it was a weird crazy experience. He told me I needed an allergy panel done to see if I was allergic to anything I have been eating. That was totally fine but instead of using Clinical laboratories or diagnostic labs which is both local and covered by my insurance he told me that he doesn't trust them and he uses a lab out in Florida which I had to pay hundreds of dollars for! Instead of following my gut, I was so desperate to get better and went with the things he was saying I mean, he is the doctor with all the knowledge,degrees, and experience. I waited three weeks to get the results. Went in for a visit to be shown all the reactions I had to different types of foods. They each had a rating of 1-4. 1 being the lowest I had reactions to and 4 being very high reactions. I was shocked at how many things where on the list so I asked can I still eat the things that are like 1/2 rating ? Since 3/4 is worse (I know dumb question) anyways he slammed my file on the counter right next to me actually scaring me! He yelled at me why did I come to waste his time ?!? JUST DIE ! Whoa... after that never again... Very rude, unprofessional and to me, he is over his job. Been doing it for way to long and should retire. read more

I visited Dr. Krishanna Takemoto-Gentile a while back. It was my first time to the clinic and I was experiencing a bad flu that had been lasting for weeks.. I was so congested that I could barely breathe and worried about suffocating in my sleep. It was terrifying. When I came in the staff was kind and accommodating, then Dr. Krishanna took me shortly after. She examined me, then prescribed various high quality vitamins to take in combination with medication. She is very knowledgeable about alternative medicine, I've seen a lot of naturopathic physicians and Dr. Krishanna DEFINITELY knows what she's taking about. Within a day I saw SIGNIFICANT improvements I was able to sleep through the whole night without gasping for air. The vitamins that I purchased through the clinic is NOT cheap they are very high quality and personally I was in a dire situation so I could not wait to find a cheaper alternative. However I do not regret it one bit because the combination of vitamins I was prescribed Ive used multiple times for both my boyfriend and I whenever we have a flu or cold and it cuts down our "sick" time significantly. I can usually bounce back within a day or two with consistent use of the vitamins AND I don't have to rely on products I hate like nyquil etc for the common cold/flu. One of her best qualities, I'd say. We don't ever have awkward conversations that I've experienced with other doctors at times. I have been a patient of Dr. Takemoto's for over 5 years now. When I first moved to island it did take me about 6 weeks to get in as a new patient, but since then if I need an appointment they get me in quickly. Dr. Takemoto hands down is the best GP I've ever had. He is incredibly helpful and when I have issues with getting referrals from other doctors he always helps me out (and on island I've encountered this issue multiple times). Horrible doctor. I went to him years ago with an insurance accident. He treated me until the bills piled up because that insurance company took their time in paying. Not my fault. One day after waiting awhile, he told me to tell them to start paying these bills. His bedside manner is crap, there's none. Further, his office and staff or he revealed stuff about me and what I said about my previous physician... WRONG. My mother and sister went to this doctor, and got recommendations on vitamin supplements and cutting out a whole list of foods that were possibly causing an allergic reaction in my sister, including gluten, dairy and sugar. Since my mom puts great trust in nutrition as an approach to health and healing, she trusted what he said, and my sister did lose weight and seemed healthier overall. So, I went to him. In retrospect, the diet change that was inspired by his suggestions included far more fresh foods, vegetables, and far fewer processed and junk foods, so of course she benefited. The first time, I went to him for some haole rot on my skin and he gave me some standard advice on skin yeast infections and told me to cut out sugar. I also asked him about back problems I was having and he looked at me and said that my eyes were uneven on my face, that's how unbalanced my body was. And then he tapped me a few times on the back with some sort of space ship tool and when I stood up, he said "look, now your eyes are even!" This is nonsense. Everyone's eyes are slightly asymmetrical, and that tool did absolutely nothing to help with back pain. The second time I went in, I told him I wanted advice on how to lose weight in a healthy way, no crash diets. He said that they offer a hormone treatment which is placed under your tongue and re-trains your brain to not want sugar. Supposedly, many people lose 30 lbs within a few weeks. Meantime, you're supposed to eat less than 1,000 calories per day. He said he had tried it himself. I also asked him about my recurring skin condition, and he said I had to seriously seriously cut out sugar. Not even fruits. I am by no means a doctor, but I am very very wary of anybody who says anything along the lines of "this product is a magic bullet" and losing 30 lbs in a matter of weeks is the definition of a crash diet, which I know to be unhealthy in many ways. I leave these experiences up for other people's judgment, but I have no trust in this physician and have not been to him since or ever again and I would not recommend my friends to him. read more

I am beginning to be disgusted by current day American physicians, as they seem to have completely forgotten that they even took a Hippocratic Oath, much less what it means; and, unfortunately, this practitioner seems to be one of them! I called his and his daughter's office today to schedule an appointment. My previous Doctor (a REAL one) had died, and his partner recommended these folks. Everything was fine until I was asked what insurance I have. Currently it's HMSA Quest. Wow! I was quickly told that they do NOT accept ANY Quest coverages. I have to admit that I already have a "hot button" about this, because several of my current doctors, that are honest with me, have said what a PITA dealing with Quest can be. So, I replied to the woman who I had been talking with, about how I am feeling disgusted about the importance of finances with American doctors, and how this is the ONLY country I have lived in where doctors act that way. This woman told me that it was NOT the finances, it was this doctor's choice because the doctor thinks that Quest enrollees do NOT "match with his philosophy" about healthcare approaches. She told me, "They come in and they just want the drugs." Can you believe that? So, this medical provider has simply decided to have a BLANKET judgment about ALL the people that have Quest insurance WITHOUT even meeting them, and not offer his services, even when he has been recommended! Despite my being a patient for years they mishandled my Covid 19 request for medicine and instead referred me to use supplements (which they sell) despite my request for Paxlovid. Didn't ask my symptoms and the doctor didn't call me back, his wife Janice was the call back I received. I had to seek medical help from another doctor to get what I needed for Covid 19 and then afterwards I told their office I was disappointed with the handling of my sickness and request to their office and I would be leaving their practice. Since it is difficult to get an appointment as a new patient to a new primary doctor, I am waiting from Aug to Dec for my appointment and have found another secondary physician to handle other items I need in the meantime. Today I needed a referral to my dermatologist (since I currently have a HMO) and was told since I left their practice they couldn't provide this referral....needless to say I had to cancel my dermatologist appointment and now wait until I get the new primary doctor set up in December. I am again disappointed and frustrated but glad I made the decision to move as this office is very disorganized and needs to put the patient first which in my case wasn't done. read more

Curtis Takemoto is supposed to be a holistic MD but when I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism the first thing he did was prescribe bovine medication without going over options such as diet and natural therapy. He told me that I had to take the medication for the rest of my life and he got upset when I asked about alternate methods to treat my condition. Based on his attitude, I stopped going to him and researched on my own for alternative therapies. After a few months, I was able to bring my thyroid condition to a normal level with organic food, supplements, exercise and balanced living. read more

If you are a patient that does your homework and questions the what and why of your own health ( as everyone should ) it does not go over well with him . He is insecure and threatened when questioned and becomes angry. I could sense an off energy with him from the beginning but had been ill / not diagnosed for so long that I was desperate, on top of the fact that some people had raved about him . BEWARE, listen to your gut . Do not waste money going to this doctor , HE IS COLD , INSECURE AND NOT CARING , VERY BIZARE ENGERY . Dr. Takemoto-Gentile has been my PCP for a year and I think he's a really great doctor. He's honest, caring, and upfront. What I like most about him is that he's well versed in multiple modalities of medicine which can be hugely beneficial when western medicine fails. As a pharmacist and healthcare professional, I feel that all physicians should possess the same open mindset that he does. Western medicine is just one approach and sometimes you need to combine different approaches to get the best results. I have one word for this office.... DON'T. or RUN... Also, if I could give zero stars that's all this is worth. I am mostly writing so others can be spared what I've gone through by going to this quack. Firstly, he is not qualified to be inserting those hormone replacement pellets that he and his wife Janice are really pushing. After I didn't get the 'desired' effects, they continued to insert one pellet after another. I went to this nut job for over a year, when I realized he was seriously close to killing me by over medication.. Then they told me I should see a head shrink because it must be me and not them that the medication wasn't working. I could go on forever, but I seriously believe he's done soooooo much damage to me and in my life, I fear I may never come back from it. It's taken over a year and a half to detox what he did out of my system. In addition, look him up on google.. He was accused and convicted of over billing, which is exactly what they also did to me. when I went to Dr. Takemoto-Gentile, I couldn't believe it!!!--if I could give 0 stars, I would----all I did was ask for an iron test, and he said, "we don't give them"---and I said, I've had it before, it's listed under "serum ferritin". His mouth fell open and from then on, he went ballistic. He took my blood pressure with my arm hanging down and put the cuff on so loose, it almost fell off. When I questioned him, he gave me all crazy answers. He said it was o.k that my arm was hanging down. Then he gives me a high potency vitamin B bottle of pills, and when I questioned him what it was for, he said for my homosysteine levels. I told him my h levels were even better than good (the arrows were going in the good direction), and he said "it's so it won't get worse!!!!"---Then I said, "my white blood cell count is low"---and he sarcastically said, "that's ok!!!" When I left the office, I looked at the expiration date on the vitamin Bs which was in 2 weeks!!!! ---he also gave me all the wrong answers for everything I asked---HELP!!! I told him that I had a very high mullti vitamin pill with extra high levels of vitamin Bs. he said "oh, you could take a tub full of bs and the excess will go right through you. At that point, I didn't want to say anything else, BUT---over 100 mg. of B6 CAN cause neurological damage as can NIACIN--which is a B vitamin. SCARY!!!---I can't believe the experience I had with him. read more

Hi, The last several negative reviews seem like they were written by the same person, I have seen Dr. Takemoto Gentile for four years after a referral by my therapist. I am a woman who experienced a major lost of hormones with the onset of menopause. Dr. T.G. replenished my hormonal level with pellet therapy which relieved vaginal dryness, lack of libido, dry skin, mood swings and yo yo weight issues. By my choice, I am closely monitored by another Doctor who is skeptical of hormone therapy, yet is periodically impressed by Dr. TG 's results. As a client, I am truly grateful to Dr. TG and his staff's professionalism, caring attitude and behavior; I definitely sense the Hippocratic oath in his office. Unfortunately, hormone therapy is not covered by insurance and is expensive. That is the downside, however, the therapy's worth has outweigh the expense tenfold in my life. I called, per a referral, for an appointment to treat a sprain. The receptionist said she couldn't get me in for at least a week and a half. This delay could never help a person in pain nor were her rude responses conducive to easing anxiety or gaining a new patient. Then, the doctor was excellent. He was very thorough, cared about my needs immensely, wanted the best for me (not for his pocketbook), and was very patient.
