I was in need of an internal specialist so I was thumbing through googles search engine. I had no idea who to search for and if I found someone, how would I know if the doctor was any good? By chance, I chose to call Dr. Yatsushiro's office. From the initial phone call, I was already impressed with their customer service. The receptionist was friendly and made it easy to schedule an appointment. Now my appointment was booked and a week later, I was at the doctors office. In the first few minutes of meeting Dr. Yatsushiro, he will probably make you laugh. He has so much energy and enjoys interacting with his patients. What makes Dr. Yatsushiro stand out above other doctors is that he truly listens and isn't trying to rush the appointment. He explains your diagnosis or lab results thoroughly. He doesn't shove information down your throat. He wants to make sure you know exactly what's going on. With my lab results, I needed to be referred to a GI specialist and upon exiting my appointment, His staff already set up an appointment for me with a GI specialist. I didn't have to wait months for anyone to call me back!! Dr. Yatsushiro is one of a kind. He is very patient focused and wants the best outcome for you. YATS is hilarious, intelligent, and doesn't hold back on giving you ALL details of what your diagnosis is. He'll give you the worse case scenario to scare you healthy!!! He gives out papers of info for visuals, uses pics on his computer for better understanding, etc. My husband and family love him! He will talk story for 20 minutes or more if you engage him -- he's hilarious! We seriously laughed for 75% of the time we were with him. And spent the rest of the time talking about his diagnosis. We were sent home with drugs "cuz that's what western medicine is and [he] can" *be prepared to wait! We've waited for as long as an hour and I've heard stories for up to 1.5 hr! He's worth it though!! His current receptionist ladies are pretty awesome too! I tried getting an appointment and the first time I called, he was booked until a month out! I called back 4 times, and she tried to give me as many options of appointments that could not work!! And then finally, a cancellation happened!! And she gave it to me! She was patient with me with all my questions and persistence of getting an appointment! I also like their new location at kuakini. It's much more spacious, and we didn't have to wait as long to get into a room! read more

He is the GREATEST doctor ever. I've never had to get a second opinion. You may have to wait a bit in the waiting area, but that's because he cares very deeply for his patients and makes sure that you get all of your questions answered. My whole family goes to him and he's never misdiagnosed any of us. I was diagnosed with Diabetes and as soon as he found out, he wanted me in his office ASAP. He cares about his patients so much that as soon as he gets your results back from blood tests or xrays, he gets a little excited. LOL He also has the greatest staff. The receptionist knows everyone that walks thru that door. It always feel like walking into your grandma's house when you go to their office. A Plus rating. read more

My husband's family has been going to Dr. Yatsushiro for years and they seemed to like him. My impression and recent experiences they had with him in my opinion is not acceptable. First instance was earlier this year. My father-in-law called the doctor because he wasn't feeling well and had an infection. He was advised to go to urgent care and went there twice in one day and ultimately had to be hospitalized for a week There was a point where we thought he wasn't going to make it and the doctor was aware of his condition and not once did the doctor check in/visit him. Mind you, the doctor's office is in the next building. Second instance was just a week ago. My mother-in-law was in pain and had difficulty walking/standing up. They called the doctor first thing in the morning and the receptionist said that the doctor would call her back. They waited and waited and waited. She decided to call them again after lunch and was told that the doctor didn't want to talk to her and to go to urgent care. WHAT THE HECK? She was upset because she was in pain all day and then to be told to go to urgent care....if that was the case, she could've gone in the morning. She was treated at urgent care and was told to follow up with the doctor. They are definitely not happy with their recent experiences and currently looking for another doctor. read more

Amazing doctor, friendly staff, you really couldn't ask for more. I had the hardest time scheduling appointments with my current doctor and I was feeling terrible! My sister cross-referenced Honolulu's Best with Yelp Reviews and helped me find Dr. Yatsushiro. I called and the receptionist was so friendly and helped me make an appointment, THE SAME DAY!!! She squeezed me in, got my paperwork done in a jiff. Dr. Yatsushiro takes the time to examine you, look at notes and just make sure that he takes care of you. After reviewing multiple MD's on the web, i decided to give This Dr a try, his office is just one block away from where I live. It was very easy to make an appointment. Receptionist who answered the phone was very friendly and understanding. She squeezed me in on their booked schedule. When I walked into the office, I was automatically greeted by the friendly staff. As a common curtesy to other patients, they took every precaution to prevent me from coughing and getting others sick. There was a lil bit of a wait but they had a movie playing which made time go by fast. They didnt have your typical boring news or sports channel on. I swear that movie just came out in theaters not too long ago. But they had it playing. I actually didnt want to go in yet cuz i was into the movie. Lol Finally, i see the Dr. He is one of the most coolest, friendliest, & caring doctor I have seen. He really engages in conversation with the patient regarding their health. He covered almost all of my medical history in one visit. He wants to make sure that he is giving the best advice for his patients. He went above and beyond what i actually went in for. He took care of other problems I had that I would have gone in for later on. I HIGHLY recommend this doctor. As long as I am on this island, I will continue to see him for all my medical needs. D. Guy Yatsushiro has been my primary care physician since moving to Hawaii 4 years ago. I chose him specifically since he is an internal medicine doctor, which means they are required to stay up so date with their education / practice, and being that I was born with a kidney disease this is very crucial for the evaluation of my health. Throughout the last 4 years I've visited him a handful of times. It seems that every time I go in with one problem in mind, I come out aware of multiple, however I don't find that I am ever treated efficiently. Over a year ago I went in for bowel discomforts and got diagnosed with hemorrhoids, in which he prescribed topical cream. They have since worsened and knowing my diagnosis I have been trying to work directly with a GI Specialist to get these removed. However, they won't schedule me an appointment without a referral from my PCP, so I finally was able to get into Guy's office about a month ago for this problem, along with a sinus infection I had. He diagnosed me again with multiple things, I was told I'd receive medication for my sinus infection, was told I need to take a blood test to check for any nutrient deficiencies, and was supposed to be referred to a GI for the removal of my hemorrhoids, and a neurologist for minor headaches I have been having (likely from my sinus infection). Long story short, despite these diagnoses and "referrals" I never received my prescription, or referral appointments. It's been a month since my doctors visit, I've called over a dozen times to get my referral appointment at the GI confirmed, and every time I've gotten voicemail except for once. The one time my call was acknowledged, I was told they were having issues with my insurance and although I offered to pay out of pocket I still have yet to receive a follow up call or more importantly, my appointment! I JUST WANT MY FREAKING HEMORRHOIDS REMOVED! That's all. read more

Been to the office, indicated I may have sleep apnea and set me for an appointment in which sleep center would call. I didn't get a call in 2 weeks and called office. Receptionist said they will contact center and they would call, waited another week no call and then ask nurse again, they apologized and said they will call this time, another week goes by, no call, I call office again and nurse gives same story, then I said before you hang up, what number do you have as my phone number, she says area code 703, then I said 702, she says oh let me correct that now and they will call you. So thinking this was fixed, another week goes by, no call...I call office again and now straight out ask what is the number you have for me, again they said area code 703.....WTF!!! I said this is second time and this is already 1 month now I've been fricken waiting!!! Never in my life have I experienced such inefficiency and stupidity, I asked how can you get the damn number wrong since you input it into a computer database, the grand stupid answer? Oh the computers are old, so it doesn't take sometimes. I can honestly say that is the lamest excuse, cause I am a computer engineer, don't know who you trying to fool. So I go to the center and everything goes smoothly, results come back in a week, now Yatsushiros office calls back to set appointment and I get one in 2 weeks on a Saturday, that Thursday before I get a call, sorry we need to move you back another 2 weeks, so this is 2 1/2 months now. I finally see Guy, he says you have sleep apnea and I have to get a sleep machine, you can buy locally, it will cost $3000 and insurance will cover and you will need to pay $60-$100 a month for 6 months, but strict rules, you need to have it for 4hrs a night and follow specific guidelines or they take it back or you can go to Amazon and buy it for $600 no rules, then come back and see me in 1 month. All in all, this is the worst experience in my life, I never got any real apology from the fricken receptionist for that dumb mistake, I got charged for 2 bills from the sleep center and I get a bill from Guys office, and now I gotta buy this stupid machine if I want to live to 100. I would caution everyone to stay away unless they want to go through the same with the damn stupid receptionist working there. Word of advice to Dr. Guy: you are a nice guy but you have too much receptionists working there, I saw and counted 4 sitting around one day doing nothing and fire the dumb ones that gave me grief and misery, I think I need to see another doctor now for the high blood pressure and constant head pain those receptionists caused me....Amen... read more

I have been seeing Dr. Yats since the 70's and he has been my primary Physician since then. I feel as if he is my brother or even better because he actually cares about your health. My brothers? Not so much! I have since moved to WA state and my only regret is that I had to change doctors with the move. It was a pleasure for the time I have been seeing him because he cares about your health and will tell you all the options you have and the "when, why, and how" to get there. Now my co-pay has increased, but the scenery has changed for the better. It is much cooler here and while I do not regret moving because my wife needed a better job and this was the place offering it, I do not like having to leave my P.C. Physician for anything. I will surely miss you my brother and your care that has been the best that Hawaii has to offer. While Doc may not have graduated from a big name college, his expertise shows that he should have been at or near and top of his classmates from any college. Yep, I miss the guy and I will always miss his care. Why? Because he is the best to my knowledge. How would I know? Just listen to him and the reasons why he always strives to be informed and knowledgeable of any ailment you may have. He studied and read the journals of the top doctors who wrote them and learned from them all. Now tell me, how many doctors have you came across who knows as much about most subjects of medicine and medical ailments, cures, and/or treatments? There won't be many because they have become complacent and lazy. I do believe that Doctor Guy Yatsushiro has "The Right Stuff" and is the best Internal Medicine of doctors that Hawaii has to offer. Nice guy but that's about all I can say... Even though I had an appointment, I waited almost two hours until I was seen. His office is located in a very ghetto area for the lack of a better term. His office is also extremely dirty which is a huge no-no to me when you are seeing a healthcare provider. Anyway, my appointment took 10 minutes and he didn't really do anything since I wasn't sick it was just an initial visit from my change of insurance plan. However, when my bill came, it cost more than my house! I was suffering for ten years with minimal sleep for over ten years which resulted in my being tired all the time. My present doctor prescribed me with sleep meds and did not look at any further treatment. So when I finally changed to Dr yatsushiro, he was so refreshing and looked at every possible solution. Lab work, sending me to a rheumatologist to rule out any autoimmune disease and finally a sleep apnea test. He provides you with complete information, both verbal and visuals. Been seeing Dr. Guy for about 17 years off and on. He is very involved in getting the correct diagnosis, and keeps you in the loop on why he is ordering certain tests. His wait time has improved drastically in the 17 years that I have been seeing him, ordinary wait time was 2 hours if you had an appointment, now it is about 10 minutes. A very caring physician, kind and sympathetic doc. He is funny too. read more

Dr. Guy Yatsushiro is a genuine person. He is intelligent, wise, and offers great advice for his patient's well-being. After visiting him, you will immediately notice that he is up-to-date on his knowledge of medicine and that he knows what you should do in order to keep yourself healthy. If I could give him negative stars, I would give him a hundred. He has been my mom's pcp for over 30 years. Last year my mom was having black out episodes where she would fall. She had 6 of them in 1 year. On October 14, 2018, she fell and broke her right wrist. On October 29, 2018, 2 weeks later, she fell and broke her left shoulder. I got the ambulance report, which wasn't easy, and took her to see Yatsushiro. He didn't even look at the report and said to her, " you real bus' up". I took it upon my self to study her vitals from the emt 's report and saw her blood pressure was really low at the time of these black outs/ falls. I cut her blood pressure medication in half, mind you I am not a medical professional, and no more episodes after that. Before her falls, she was working 5 days a week. She exercised regularly and independently got around on the bus.Now she stays home and is fragile and fearful. I blame Yatsushiro for not addressing or caring to find the cause. I blame him for my mom's degeneration. I blame him for not knowing when to retire. I blame him for not being responsible. I blame him for breaking his Hippocratic oath. read more
