Small narrow seating area laid out well.

A satisfying meal can be had here. It's a real mix of pan-Asian favorites from Chow Mein to Cashew Beef (very good) Pad Thai (average). There are also a wide selection of drinks including Thai tea, Bubble tea and soft drinks to name a few. One surprise was the desert menu which had some decidedly western options like Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Fudge Cake to go with Mochi or Green Tea ice cream. The staff was very friendly and the service responsive. It's a dependable if not stellar.

Asian Lunch Bento

I used to live in Evanston and this was one of my favorites. I met a friend for lunch and we went here. The food was still good and the service was friendly and fast. I had a bento lunch box which was quite filling. The ambiance is casual but enjoyable for a friend lunch, date night or groups

Lunch Special Avocado, Kappa, And Sweet Potato Maki

Getting Asian is easy around here. If not picky about how authentic it is. Dozika is such a restaurant in Evanston. Mostly get some Japanese inspired items along with some Chinese and Thai. The lunch specials are good for sushi and the rest is a value. At lunch is a good time to come here. It was the cheap specials that made us choose it. These are real money savers. It's about $10 each. We got the Lunch Special, Sushi Set. Comes with a bowl of miso soup which was simple yet good. Quite a lot of food to be real. Choose which rolls to get in it. We got the Avocado Maki, Kappa Maki, and Sweet Potato Tempura Maki. A good deal. Plenty of food for two people. Fresh tasting even though it came out fast. The tempura had a nice crunch and it added texture. Come here for cheap specials at lunch. It's the best time to come here and save on rolls. This isn't quite authentic but whatever.

Crispy and Soft Noodle

I came on a weekday at lunch time. The whole place was empty except they did seem to have a couple pick up orders. I havent eaten in the restaurant before and so I wanted to try it out. If you come here, I recommend getting the non-sushi dishes. Maybe it's because it's been slow for them, but the chirashi raw fish did not taste or smell fresh. It was a bit concerning even. The crispy and soft noodles were fine. It's not better than really any other Thai restaurants in Evanston, though, so I don't think I will be back.

Variety

Went before a show at space right across the street. The place just opened early when we got there. Service was un memorable. No cocktails, had wine. We got apps, chicken satay, just ok. Secondly, we got Japanese crepe balls filled with chopped octopus( tako yaki). It was interesting, and it was cruncy out seafoody in octo not tough We had pad thai, looked , tasted meh. We also got a variety of rolls (6) all we large and fresh. Priced per average. Soild sushi place conviently located for a show at space

Dead bug

I only had Dozika one other time, and it was very good. This time around, I ordered pad se ew lunch special with shrimp and crab rangoon for delivery through GrubHub. It was delicious, but by the time I got to my crab rangoon, I noticed something that resembled a dead bug under the crab rangoon. I was able to get a refund through Grubhub, but nonetheless I was disappointed.

Bento Box

I could eat Dozika every day of the week and never tire of it. The menu here has a plethora of fabulous choices for every craving, from pad Thai and sushi to bento boxes and fried rice. I recommend stopping by at midday when the lunch special menu provides a remarkable value proposition. An entire meal (drinks and gratuity not included) cost only about $13. With today's skyrocketing inflation, I can't help but wonder how long that deal will last. First of all, the miso soup is perfect for warming one's bones on a cold, wintery day. Second, the weather is never too frigid to enjoy a tall, frosty bubble tea latte. I got the taro flavor, which was inoffensively sweet, mild, and refreshing. The mango fruit squeeze also comes highly recommended. My bento box came with addictively crunchy crab rangoon, salad with shredded carrots and a superb ginger dressing, and steamed veggies flanked with peanut sauce and white rice. This sauce is hard to categorize--somewhere in between sweet and savory, but absolutely delicious. Carrots, bean pods, onions, and mushrooms perfectly complement their adornments of starchy rice and protein-packed seasoning, making for a satisfyingly wholesome bite. In short, the food here is energizing, fresh, and fairly healthy. I would be remiss not to comment on the teriyaki salmon, which was doubtlessly the best I've ever had. The fish was not dry, but crispy, flaky, salty, and full of scrumptious flavor. This is Asian fusion cooking at its highest level. The sushi at Dozika is every bit as wonderful as you would expect. I tried the California roll, which comes included in every Dozika Box for little more than $12. It's fascinating to watch the chef prepare each roll at the sushi bar, crafting every dish with scrupulous expertise. Even during the lunch rush, I found service to be surprisingly quick. For Evanston residents, the rare combination of quality and value make Dozika a no-brainer choice. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Asian food, and hope to dine here again soon.

Amazing Thai and Sushi. One of the best longtime Evanston classics. Never had a bad meal in 15 years of eating there.

Good wide menu with items that you don't find at your mainstream japanese restaurant. More like old school Chicago Japanese. (Thinking a blend here of old Ginza and maybe some parts Sunshine.) Maybe only with the departure of those favorites we appreciate more what has stayed on. Appetizer selection is long enough to just get small plates to share. Notables: - ebi snijo (homemade shrimp ball) - hamachi jaw (if you haven't had it) - hirame no cha soba age (fried green tea noodles and whitefish rolled with seaweed) - evokes the old Ginza restaurant for me - octopus sunomono Even after three recent visits without repeat apps, there are still more we haven't had elsewhere to try. Part of the reason for that is - we get entrees too. We've been happy with: - chirashi (curious how the sashimi D differs) - Salmon Bento (D) - so many different things fun to share! - Kuni's Special - gomaee and mixed seafood sunomono, then our choice of sashimi followed by saba - nabe yaki udon is reasonable here at $13 with two tempura shrimp Know there's lots of reviews here, but as long as there is room on weekends for us we're happy to share!

The shallot rice with vegetables had no vegetables at all and tasted as if it was premade and warmed up again in the microwave. The shallot rice with beef was the same and contained tiny bits of burned beef. The sushi was not fresh and the crispy spring rolls were akin to dog treat sticks. The food is expensive and some of the worse food I've ever had. While I appreciate the business owners detailed response, there are contradictions. When ordering the shallot fried rice from the restaurants website on July 2, vegetables were included as an option. Today vegetables have been replaced with herbs. Nevertheless we chose the available vegetable option therefore vegetables were requested. The restaurant received our vegetables request as indicated on the pictured receipt and packaging. We received herbs and rice but no vegetables. We did not order through a third party delivery service. We placed the order through the restaurant website and I arrived early to pick up the food. I hope that the owner is able to receive my feedback constructively and take accountability for the issues my family encountered with the restaurant.

The takoyaki was actually better than average! I didn't expect much because I've had way too many disappointing takoyaki in this country, yet somehow I keep ordering it everywhere lol. Here, it was freshly cooked, crispy on the outside, and flavorful. Definitely recommend it. The pork katsu curry was decent, nothing fancy. I think the katsu itself could be improved in both texture and portion. The meat was a little too thin, and the breadcrumb coating could have been crispier. The curry was alright. It could have had a little more flavor, but overall it was still enjoyable, especially for the price. Service was also fine, nothing particularly memorable but no complaints either. The main reason this felt more like a 3.5 than a full 4 was actually the smell. The moment I walked in, there was a slightly unpleasant smell that reminded me of a kitchen that could use a deeper cleaning. I checked the menu and didn't see that much raw fish, so I'm not sure where it was coming from. To be fair, I've noticed a similar smell at quite a few casual Japanese restaurants, but it still affected the first impression a little. Overall, decent food at a reasonable price and convenient enough that I'd come back.

Frankly, I was not expecting a lot however I was very pleasantly surprised. First, our waiter Warren was absolutely fabulous. He was from start to finish incredible. I'm not sure if they have the same chefs or they have different ones but the food is still super delicious high-quality and fresh. Yes overtime the prices have gone up definitely and the portions have stayed around the same fortunately. The menu is a little bit different than it's predecessor, which is great. So they're doing some different things while still being true and authentic, which I thoroughly appreciate. I would definitely be coming back here again, realizing just how good it really is. One of the biggest surprises of the night frankly were the fried chicken wings. I would have never guessed to order it, but I was here with a group of friends and a friend wanted to order it because apparently she likes fried chicken wings and this one was not just your regular run-of-the-mill chicken wings it really was well seasoned and well fried. All the sushi was on point fresh and delicious. Everything was great, especially the bento box options that they offer you even on a Monday night.
