Stopped by Public Downtown after Sunday service with some friends. It was busy, especially the patio, but we were seated inside right away. The atmosphere was nice, and the service was friendly. I ordered the Appetizer Mac & Cheese with added barbacoa. The flavor was amazing, but both my friend and I received undercooked pasta, which was disappointing. They're usually grilled with a nice char and visible sear marks, but these were soft and mushy, almost as if they had been steamed. My wife and I stopped in tonight to have dinner at Downtown PUBlic. This restaurant holds a special place in our hearts as this was where we had our first date years ago. Since then we celebrate major life events here. But tonight our experience left us wondering if we should ever go back and how so much has changed for the negative. We walked up outside, there was one table outside leaving. We wanted to sit inside because of the sun. We walked in, there was only one table of four and two people sitting at the inside bar. We were not greeted immediately. But within a few minutes the busser came over. And brought us water, menus and silverware. The water glasses smelled terrible. But ok, we will order other drinks. Our server finally came over after several additional minutes. My wife ordered their advertised drink, some modification of the Public Defender and I ordered a coke. We then ordered the tomato explosion app to start with. It took nearly 20 minutes to get my coke and our appetizer. As I was watching the bar the bartender just kept wondering around the restaurant, going in the back, looking at wine, touching everything in the restaurant without washing his hands ever. The other table was walking up to him directly to get drinks because nothing was moving fast. By time my wife's drink came it had been 45 minutes. Our server brought us the drink and sat it down. Never apologized for the wait, I voiced my displeasure and she said the bartender was doing the best he could. That is an embarrassing statement. The server's sheer lack of ownership and customer service was awful. We had had her serve us a couple months ago when we brought more of our family and she was terrible then too. We decided to go somewhere else to have dinner, so I flagged down the server and asked for our check. And I told her explicitly we were leaving to go somewhere else because of the terrible service and the horrible service from the bartender. She couldn't have cared less. I asked that she made sure the manager was aware of why we were leaving and she said she was the manager. And there wasn't anything to be done and she wanted to argue about it. I paid, requested the receipt texted to me and it was never sent. This was such a horrible experience. What in the world is going on, 45 minutes for a drink. One drink. A manager wanting to argue with a patron. Are you serious about wanting to build a business that people still get excited to go out to and visit??? That is a serious question. I don't enjoy writing this review. But if on a Saturday, you put your business in the hands of that "manager" and a bartender that is extremely unprofessional. Why even be open?? read more

Jenna and Josh are total champions. They are attentive, kind, and amazing at what they do. Josh has served me here a couple times and is personable and fast. Jenna served me on my birthday and she took time to answer our questions and wish me a happy birthday. She suggested amazing meals and was quick with everything. They are both amazing!! We finally order our food after 15-20 minutes of sitting only to wait almost an hour for food to hit the table. A couple was sat, had their order taken, got their food, and LEFT! I happened to get Darrien as our server/Bartender at the Bar again and his service is OUTSTANDING! We visited Down Town Public house recently, hearing they are under new ownership. First of all, the service was great, and the ambience is excellent. It is a truly unique place, classy and bespoke at the same time, with a great seating area outside that is equally thoughtfully designed. The food was very good. I had the Chicken is the Real Dill. Okay - if I'm honest, i was expecting a lot of dill- but there isn't really much dill- it's mostly capers and onions. We also had the Eurofries - with the garlic on the side. We really enjoyed those- and we were so glad we did garlic on the side because otherwise there would have been tooooooooo much garlic. Full disclosure - and to the owners - your dish called This Chicken is the Real Dill - your description doesn't say it has onions in the sauce. The sauce is DOMINATED by onions, overpowering what little dill there might have been. As a guy with food intolerance for onions, that was a real bummer to me. I'm still giving five stars though because i like the place! But hey - that dish - with that name? Why not put fresh dill on it like on the Eurofries - and cut the onions - or at the very least be clear in the description that the sauce is dominated by diced onions. read more

I have posted a review previously for Downtown Public, but want to update the review based on a visit yesterday. Five of us went for lunch, we were seated right away. Our server Josh was one of the best I have ever had at a restaurant; friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, Six stars based on his service alone. The food, as always, was excellent. My girlfriend and I split the Blueberry Blood Orange Salad with blackened fish added, as well as a side order of fries. Delicious. We dined indoors as it was quite warm outside. Their patio has great tables with built-in fire pits and lots of tree canopy. This is truly a great gastro pub with a creative menu. read more

We were seating on a low table. I wouldn't recommend it if you order food. The table is far from the seating so you have to lean down to eat.
