Ate there last night and just let me say how excited we are to have a good restaurant in town again! We didn't like the cow...stomach upset every time we ate anything from their fryer. Plus I loved the chicken fried steak from before it was the cow and the cow never matched that quality.
So last night we got a burger and chicken fried steak, to try out our go to's...and we started with the Swiss cheese sticks. My hubby loves Swiss but I don't so didn't expect much. They were amazing, probably the best cheese sticks I've ever had! The cheese was soooo melty and the breading was perfect! We would have liked to have them with marinara but y'all were out so we had ranch. Still good. We also loved that there were six. Appetizers usually come in an odd number which just doesn't make sense, so having an even number was perfect for two. Thank you!!! The onion burger was fabulous! Please don't change anything, especially that bun...it is amazing! I'll order my fries crispy next time but what we got was very good and I love that they are made in house!
The chicken fried steak confused us. Instead of a whole piece it was eight or so small pieces. So steak fingers, really. They were cooked perfectly, tender and absolutely delicious. I'll try something other than the mashed potatoes next time, they were fine but not a standout by any means. The gravy was meh. After a lot of salt and some pepper it was ok but I had hoped for real gravy instead of a mix. The Mac n cheese was good. Needed salt and seasoning - everything needed salt- but the pasta was al dente which we loved. Emma was our server and we knew her from before, she always does a great job! We took apple pie home just to try a dessert. It was not too sweet which we appreciate but just good, not great. Still we would order it again. I can see us eating there a couple times a week. Prices were fair, one thought though would be to lower the cost of iced tea. We used to always get pop or tea with our meals but now only get water. And I see so many tables doing the same. I don't know what a restaurants cost is for pop now but I'll never pay $3 for it. Tea is cheap to make and could be a much lower price and I think the local community would appreciate that. Next thought is that we liked the pool table in the side room. Maybe add a dart board and a game or two when you start serving beer? Kind of like the vibe at OMG Lounge in Owasso (amazing burger and fries). So our overall opinion of the entire meal at Downtown Grill was very positive and we are super thankful to have someplace in town that we like instead of having go to Bluejacket, Chetopa, Edna or further. Try it out y'all! read more
