Thomas Restaurant in Pryor, OK has been around since 1952. As a teen ager, It was a regular stop for me and my uncle on our frequent summer trips to his property on Grand Lake. It had been decades since I ate there, but my wife and I were in Pryor last Saturday and started driving the main strip looking for lunch. To my surprise, Thomas is still in business. It is a small town Oklahoma place to eat, serving up comfort food in a clean envirnoment. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, cream gravey , fried okra, and dinner roll. It was a good lunch, no complaints. Jan had liver and onions. That's a dish you won't find on many menu's. She had green beans and fried okra as sides. The liver was tough. The green beans and okra were excellent. The service was good. The prices moderate. read more

My lemon Parmesan chicken was DELICIOUS!! The broccoli was too well done for me and I didn't care for the potatoes but the roll was good. My husband's hamburger steak was a bit dry but better with some brown gravy. Fries, pinto beans and roll were good. We don't generally get dessert but the homemade pies looked fabulous... my husband chose the chocolate pie and I tried the coconut cream pie. I REALLY liked his chocolate pie, it wasn't a pudding like most are! The coconut cream was ok. Service was ok. Nice people. Clean place. Restroom was clean too. read more

Everything just okay. Virtually all of the food we had, BLT with french fries and chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a dinner roll, was pre-fab frozen from some commercial food supply company. Not worth the price. Won't be back. read more

American Diner Food with Mexican Food Too! Visit date 6/7/2019 For me, most all American food diners fall into two ratings "Poor" or "Average." Unless they have something really special going on, to make them really stand out, I just can't get too excited about them. Fried everything with fries just gets boring. However, based on the reviews I have read, I have been wanting to try the Don Thomas restaurant for some time. The special today was one filet of fried catfish with two sides and a roll ($5.99!).That's a bargain! One filet of catfish just didn't seem like enough, so I ordered two. For sides I ordered Cole slaw and fries. Surprise, the catfish fillets were big. One would have been enough. The fries were battered with a good crunchy coating. The slaw was homemade and it was very good. It was not too sweet and not smothered in mayonnaise. The catfish was perfectly breaded with cornmeal and deep fried exactly right. My wife had a hamburger, a good third pound burger, served with all the condiments and the same crunchy fries. The service was fast and the wait staff was nice and friendly! Variety of menu choices, large servings. One of the few places open for a late supper while on a road trip. Fish and shrimp had good breading and fried perfectly, tasted fresh. Philly steak sandwich was tasty. I'm thinking they use the fajita meat for this and same bread as their tortas. Prices are very reasonable. Can even get a cup of soup for 2.50 if you just need a little bite to eat. Will definitely try some other menu items when we are in the area again! read more

Small town authentic diner. Still has the center diner counter, and the hat/coat pole at each booth. A wide variety of food options. The catfish/shrimp combo is very good, well prepared and 'diner' style presentation. Friendly, fast service. Local crowd, and average noise level of clanking Diane's, children, and a TV. read more

Husband choose this place on a whim as we were headed down to Denny's. The parking lot was packed...must be good! It definitely didn't disappoint. Portions looked just a tad shy of will that fill me up? They were perfect portions! Clean plates full family bellies. Everyone loved what they got. This place offers the traditional, rich and often typical options known as a Diner concept, but others, which surpass and surprise both the concept of Diner and the place, finding a place like this here in Pryor. Quite recently, we had some business that brought us to Pryor. I had already looked online for a place to eat since we were going to be there around dinner time. When we reached town we drove around before our business & noticed several places to eat including the Don Thomas Restaurant. What struck me immediately was the signage. Quite old fashioned & in the vein of old Route 66. In fact, this restaurant was not even on my potential list of dinner choices that I had found online before the trip. But I took a shot & we stopped there for dinner. I had the Ham & Cheese Melt with a side of onion rings. My mother had the Chicken Tenders with two sides: a baked potato & corn on the cob. The sandwich was excellent. The egg on the sandwich was cooked properly. Just enough ham, bacon, cheese & egg, too. The onion rings were crunchy & not greasy. The portion size of the onion rings was just right with about 10 or so rings. I tried a piece of the chicken tenders & it was superb. I LOVE chicken tenders. (In fact, it was my second choice of what to originally order before I saw the ham & cheese sandwich). The baked potato was medium size. Two ears of corn on the cob, which seemed to be grilled, & a roll topped off mom's meal. I ate one ear of corn. Not overly buttery & with a grilled flavor. The roll had substance & might have been home-made. Mom remarked that the chicken tenders might have been breaded on site because of the flavor & texture of the tenders. Whether or not the corn on the cob was grilled, the roll was home-made, or the chicken tenders were breaded on site, we had an excellent meal. I live around 60 miles away but I am already planning for a return visit in the future. Definitely going for the chicken tenders next time, too. :) read more

This place is just great. They should be 6 stars. So many choices and so darn good. We stopped in on our way to Texas. So good we stopped on the way home the second day. The waitress remembered us and details of what we liked. Best chimichanga my wife says she has ever had. The street quesadilla is like nothing I have had before. Our kids loved they could get breakfast at lunch. Ice tea is fresh. Service is incredible. We saw two other restaurants just as packed and wanted to try them to but this place has at least 10-15 items on the menu I really want to try. May not make it to them for a bit. read more

I ordered carry-out last night from Don Thomas Restaurant in Pryor. I was simply to tired to cook. I had the beer battered fish dinner, and my husband has the chicken fried steak dinner. My fish dinner had so very much pepper in the batter, that I could only eat one fillet. I am reactive to every kind of pepper, and it was so hot that it actually stung my mouth, and my tongue. I ordered the loaded baked potato, and fried okra as the sides. My potato had butter, and very tough bacon on it. I had no green onions, or sour cream to go with it. It was cooked nicely though. Instead of cocktail or tater sauce, I received a small dipping container of cream gravy, full of pepper. I spent most my day in the bathroom due to the pepper on the one fish fillet that I managed to eat. You can always add pepper at the table. I can't imagine a child eating food with that much pepper. It is supposed to be a family restaurant. My husband said his chicken fried steak was okay, but very hot from pepper as well. I used to love this restaurant (right before COVID), but I probably won't go back. read more

Had the spaghetti and meatballs the marinara had a nice balance between sweet and sour the meatballs were a nice size. I could of done without the iceberg lettuce however both the chocolate and coconut cream tasted super fresh a real nice stop. read more

On a road trip and found this gem. Fish tacos were great. Kids had pancakes and eggs and it was the perfect portion for them. The Baja salad with steak and chicken was perfect. The biscuits and gravy were even better even at 8pm at night. Worth five stars. read more

I'm really sad to write this. I grew up in Pryor, Thomas Restaurant was a definite staple. The menu has changed quite a bit from what I remember. I ordered Chips and queso because we were super hungry. The queso was beyond watery. None of the soda tasted right. I ordered a salad and sadly when I asked the server didn't know what vinegarette dressing was. My son got a grilled cheese, the cheese wasn't melted. I was confused by the mostly mexican and american menu. The service wasn't that great either. I probably wont be back next time I go to visit. read more

Fed a family of 5 plus 2 desserts for $43! We had the catfish lunch special and were all impressed. Thick fish and thin, crispy breading-just the way It should be done. We loved our sides (broccoli, fries, coleslaw, baked potato, corn). The pies were wonderful. I thought service was great. We will definitely be back to try more things. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with our food from Thomas Restaurant. We're from Texas and are accustomed to good Tex-Mex and this place was delicious! I had the cheese enchiladas and my dad had the burrito. It was so good! The medium salsa was good and had more heat than I expected.
