We were visiting friends who took us to Chickanellas. For those visiting the area, you won't be disappointed in this local favorite. We were greeted by friendly staff and promptly sat at a comfortable table. The server didn't take long to take our drink orders. The menu is mostly sandwiches, but they also have great soups and salads. The chicken rice soup was out of this world. I had the Wild hog sandwich which had a slice of ham and well as pork with secret sauce. It was very good. The homemade chips were a great compliment to the sandwich. My husband and I came to Afton Oklahoma to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We wanted to go somewhere local that felt like a great getaway. When looking for dinner we went to a local pizza place where we felt extremely uncomfortable however we decided to come to Chickanellas for breakfast the next day and ever since we have been back for dinner and breakfast for the remaining duration of our stay. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, they literally make you feel like family. The restaurant itself is so cozy and gives a family friendly but also intimate vibe where you're in a comfy booth to be able to enjoy your meal in peace. The food is absolutely delicious! There is not one thing that we tried that we didn't like. This will be our food spot going forward anytime we come to Afton or even if we want a nice little day trip. Highly recommend coming here! The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because of the wait staff. The people who served us were very kind and were as attentive as possible given the slight busyness. The food itself was also pretty good for the area. We were hoping to try the breakfast menu but due to long wait times, we missed that window. My main complaint was that food takes an inordinate amount of time to be made for what you're getting. We were watching breakfast items be served over an hour after breakfast had supposedly ended. I also got the impression that there are management problems along with the fact that they are suffering from kitchen staff turnover. When speaking to management, they took care of us but were very cold and unapologetic about our frustrations and negative experience. This was positively contrasted with our waitress who was very sympathetic and apologetic about our experience. Overall if they can figure out their kitchen issues this would be a much better restaurant. But until then, I don't recommend going here unless you have 2+ hours to kill. read more

Very disappointing. We arrived at 1 PM on a Friday in August. The restaurant was nearly half full with most patrons paying there check. We were seated immediately and given our beverages, order taken and was ready for an enjoyable lunch. Our waitress returned to our table about 15 minutes later and said our food was nearly done. That is when service ended. After another 20 minutes no food. I went to the cashier and inquired about our order. The kitchen staff said they did not have our order. After discussion between the kitchen staff and our waitress it was determined the waitress did not turn our order in. The disappointing issue is that after 40 minutes not one staff members cared or made any apologies. read more

The sandwiches are very good ...I personally prefer the Soprano. Chips are homemade as well as the soups...all very good. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. Friendly and fast service in a casual cozy ambiance. Went during breakfast and food was cooked as ordered and it was delicious. The biscuits and gravy were so tasty; probably best I've ever had. We also tried their homemade jams and those were superb. They have a display of cakes, breads and pickles that you won't be able to resist. This place is a gem in a really small lake town. I can't really talk about the food because, well we never got it we were getting hangry and decided to stop at chickenella's BIG mistake. When we arrived we were excited because the service seamed pretty good. We got seated, ordered, and then never saw our waitress again. Horrible experience and very overpriced. Charge $2 extra for salad dressing for the $23 salad. The pasta Alfredo was basically a child's portion for $20+. There were 9 of us and they brought 'complementary' bread that was enough to serve maybe three and then charged us extra when we asked them for enough to cover everyone at the table. Speed of service was terrible as it took almost an hour to get our food and the restaurant was less than half full. We eat out 200 times a year and this is the worst in years. Heard alot about this place went as a family group, waitress was awesomely nice and did her best, but for the price based on portion I won't go again we had 10 and they brought one little laof of bread, and we asked for more, not knowing they were gonna charge and it was a ridiculous amount the pasta dish was a a ridiculously small portion, it would have been okay for a child but not a adult, for the cost it should have been at least double the size, the sandwich was Ok but the side served were not a adequate amount, let's just say we won't repeat that disaster nicked and dime. Absolutely the best place in Grove to eat! The owner makes her own sausage, and it is out of this world - like none I have ever tasted before. Truly delicious! Was never a sausage lover 'til now. Now I am a believer. She also makes the most wonderful home made soups. As with the sausage, was never that big on soup 'til I had Chickanella's.
