The Café's sign says Flame Broiled Steaks. I ordered the Cowboy Burger and yes it was a flame broiled beef patty. A large beef patty. This sandwich is a massive pile of meat. On the beef patty, a stack of ham, stacked thicker than the beef patty and two or three slices of excellent thick hickory bacon. Swiss cheese, a splash of BBQ sauce, all wrapped in toasty buttery Texas Toast. Fresh cut fries on the side. They have something going on with these fries. They are cut thin, everyone of them crispy. Uniquely seasoned with lots of black pepper and salt. The Cowboy Burger was too Much. My wife still had Mexican food on her mind after our failed attempt to have lunch at a Mexican joint down the road. The Taco Salad was as described at the intro to this review, not authentic Mexican, but good home cookin'. Beans, lettuce, tomato, beef in a crispy shell with bottled salsa on the side. They have a good-looking salad bar and today a big sheet of chocolate cake was the reward at the end, if you ate all of your salad. Breakfast or a steak might be worth a try here! We enjoyed our lunch. Good prices, good service and the Christmas decorations are up. read more

I grew up going to Lorraine's across the street which I have been told this is the descendant of that restaurant. I believe there are different owners now but it is the same great food that I remember as a kid. The food is always excellent and plentiful, I'm always surprised at how good the food taste versus the price I have to pay for it. It is extremely affordable. The service is normally very good here, but like anyone you can have your off days. They can be extremely busy and overworked, so give them a break. I will always go back to this place. Don't discredit this place because of its lackluster outside appearance; it's a diamond in the rough! Wonderful service... fast, fresh meal preparation...generous portions. Seriously the best food I've had from a restaurant in quite some time. Oh....and to top it off....you can't beat their prices! A fast food meal costs way more and nowhere near as good. You can't go too wrong when there is chocolate cake for the taking at the end of the salad bar, lol. This is a basic small town restaurant where if they don't know you by sight when you walk through the door, they will recognize you the 2nd time you eat there. The food is basic and surprisingly good, the staff friendly, the salad bar well stocked. The 'shotgun' onion rings have cayenne pepper in the batter, you can get them sans cayenne too, 'regular' onion rings - and these are the extremely thin 'shoe string' style onion rings - very good, unique. The rest of the items are good, very much like you or grandma might make - good little place - decor and wear and tear on the place looks like it stepped out of 1970's former pizza hut decor playbook. Linoleum floor, TV's mounted around the permitter, vinyl seats some in need of repair, etc... But good basic food serving the community of Fairland and those who pass through. For me a major 'ding' is they offer no chili - this is the 4-state SW region of Texas/Oklahoma/Colorado/New Mexico folks, and every other restaurant in the area offers red chili over their eggs, or chili cheese fries, etc...but these owners of this place and the 'All Day Cafe' in Grove, don't offer chili at either place. The last time I was in the waitress told me she gets asked about 2-3x a week for it... But other than that, good basic food, you won't have a bad meal here, you'll even say it was good food - just nothing to write home about. read more

Gravy is too thick and salty and the hash browns are too greasy. Needs to re reupholster the seats and strip the floors and redo them. Also the salad bar could be redone or get a new one. The cook needs to pay more attention to the food and not add so much salt and pepper there's some people go in there to eat that have high blood pressure and they don't need all the added salt, the coffee is always good read more

Okay, so keep in mind that I've lived in this little town, on and off for almost 25 of my 42 years of life. I have no beef with the owner or disestablishment for any other reason except the food and service. On their Facebook page, I have left a very lengthy ranting review that is edited update of my last several visits. I went there once with a friend of mine and she ordered a steak medium rare oh, they brought out the steak and it was so tough that the knife couldn't even cut it. Her daughter's chicken burger had bacon on it that was so thick and tough it couldn't be eaten. On top of all that, the french fries are almost always hammered and pepper, and super soggy what's grease, not condensation. Also, I ate there with my father. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was hammered in so much pepper that it was inedible. think about how much happier that would have to be for somebody to not be able to eat food. I like jalapenos and spicy food, that being said, it just has three times too much pepper. My last visit there consisted of an order of four cheese sticks that cost my son over $7 that made him sick a couple hours later. I had chicken that was so over cooked and so dry it was almost inedible so I just tore up the meat, chopped it up very fine and made some chicken salad. It took us 30 minutes to get our food. The waitress was annoyed that we were there an hour and a half before they closed. Our table was dirty and after I left the review on their Facebook page, the owner put me on blast and insulted me in front of everybody. This place is always busy. You would think that they're doing something right, but honestly the only other place to eat is a tiny little burger joint that doesn't have hardly any room to sit. I'm not sure the locals get out that much, as it's usually filled with people on their lunch break or elderly people looking to have a night out on the big town that populated with about 1000 people. read more

My wife and I had heard good reviews from some friends about Friday steak night at The Cafe in Fairland so we had to give it a try. The place was busy which was a good sign. All you can eat sirloin steak dinner for $13.95 but that does not include a drink. Sirloin steak, baked potato, veggies, salad bar and a roll. The food overall was pretty good. The cut of sirloin was very good and the service was alright considering how busy they were. You can't beat it for the price! read more

Normally this is a friendly establishment however our service today was slow, rude and not pleasant. Half our table received their orders and had them almost finished by the time the others received their orders. The waitress sighed and rolled her eyes when asked to refill a condiment container. We were told she would bring other condiments and we had to go retrieve the ourselves and was not asked about refills on drinks. Very poor service this evening, I was quite disappointed. read more

Got to Fairland at around noonish on Route66, with our stomach growling and our eyes darting around for a local restaurant from this neck of the wood. At a good distance, we spot that unmistakable BBQ smoke hanging in the air, and smell that wonderful smoky flavor wharfing up as we got nearer... We've got to try whatever they grilling up in there. Ordered rib eye steak cook medium rare with mashed potatoes drench in brown gravy, and Indian fried bread with crispy ground beef and red beans from a very attentive waitress. Both dishes arrived exceptionally good; steak was soft, lean, and flavorful that doesn't need additional steak sauce to spiked it up. The Indian bread is pretty much authentic down to crunchy outside with soft and slightly chewy inside, bits of crispy ground beef and tender red beans worked wonder in our mouths. Got back on the Mother Road and couldn't wipe the smiles of our faces after that delicious lunch. read more

This small, homey Cafe is a family friendly restaurant that is worth the 4 mile drive off the toll road. Everything is homemade and fresh with good portion sizes, also the waitresses were friendly and efficient. I would definitely go back when I come back that way. read more
