I have been the Customer of this place since 2009, until they ruined my suede dress by treating it incorrectly. I have asked for a refund for their cleaning service and/or refund for the item (this was an expensive item), and they refused to give me a refund despite the fact that I had been a loyal customer for over ten years. Grace, the lady who accepts the items, did not call me back regarding my damaged item, and overall was not polite when I addressed my concern. They lost their customer of ten years. I am not coming back, and advise everyone not to deal with this greedy people. I brought in so many items in the last, and one time when they ruined my dress they could not accommodate even a small refund. read more

I lived in the building a couple years ago and was happy that there was a dry cleaners outside our door. I wasn't happy after I had some of my clothing cleaned there. I brought in 5 tops (shirts and sweaters all from Banana Republic) that I've had dry cleaned numerous times when I used to live in the suburbs in perfect condition but just needed some gentle cleaning. When I picked them up, all my sweaters were ruined. I had found holes in all of them when I returned home. I repeat - my clothes were in perfect condition but just needed some freshening up. So the only way my clothes could have gotten ruined was from the shop. I brought all my clothes back in to show them the holes and they of course did not say it was their fault. They said that I had moths in my clothes and that where all the holes came from. After that excuse, I never went back to them again. I'd think twice about bringing any really delicate clothing to that shop. Now I go to the cleaners at Union Station and never have had issues. read more

One word for this business: RUDE! I called to confirm that they repaired shoes (which I had read - the place in my building went out of business...) I call, lady answers/screams into the phone: "YES?" I started to ask if they did shoe repairs (got about 5 words out) when she cuts me off and says: "I busy with customer! You call back!" I tried to just ask her if they did shoe repairs, and she cuts me off again, and before hanging up on me she says "I say I busy with customer!" and I say "Excuse me but I am a potential customer and would like to know if you repair shoes" and with that she hangs up the phone. How rude! I ended up going to Sam's Shoe Doctor down the street (in the 111 canal building), and not only were they super nice they did a great job too. read more

Absolutely the Best Cleaners in Chicago! I recently moved to chicago and one of the most difficult things to find was a cleaners downtown who offered same day service who also did quality work. After trying several cleaners, i stubbled across Downtown Cleaners and I've been very impressed. First, the service is impeccable. Second, the prices are very reasonable if not cheaper than most cleaners downtown. And third, the quality is excellent. Downtown Cleaners also does a great altering suits. I recently bought two suits that I needed altered and Downtown cleaners were able to take my measurements, make the alterations and get the suits back to me in less than 5 days... Although I have a cleaners in my building it's still more convenient for me to walk the couple of blocks to Downtown Cleaners. We were referred here by our building staff when we moved in and happily return when we need dry cleaning. Grace and the rest of the staff do a great job with all of the items we give them. She even helped me with alterations! They do some high volume sometimes, so it's not exactly guaranteed next-day service. They take good care of your items and prices are what's expected for the area. No $1.79 wash and dry here! Located across the street from Ogilive and very convenient to many of the apartment buildings around. Bar-code/account number system is the way to go! I get my work clothes done at work for almost free, but when I need something done right, I go see Grace and the smiling faces at Downtown Cleaners! read more

I've been using this dry cleaner for 2+ years, even though they have never been the closest cleaner to my home (it's an extra 2 block walk). Why? The consistent service and competitive price. My sense is that the prices are lower than average, while the service has always been good. Clothes come back clean and well pressed. Alterations are to specifications. No drama. I've had exactly one issue with this dry cleaner, when someone else's shirts were delivered to me when a staple snagged. Given how often dry cleaners cause headaches, I consider this a very strong record. I've never had clothes damaged or destroyed. I subtract a star because I would prefer they hang their shirts differently, by buttoning a lower button instead of only the top button. read more

I would definitely recommend staying away from here. I went in with wash and fold laundry from a recent vacation and was told the the cost for washing and folding t-shirts (no collared or buttoned shirts) was $5 per shirt and that the turnaround time was five days. I was also told that any laundry beyond t-shirts would be charged by the pound and that there was a minimum charge of $40 (about $8 per pound for what I brought in to have washed). Most laundry services around the area charge per pound only (not a separate charge for t-shirts) and offer pickup and dropoff options. I would highly recommend Chicago Wash Club as they service a large area, pickup and dropoff right to you, and offer reasonable prices. Very frustrated and disappointed in Downtown Cleaners. read more

I really love this cleaner. Every time I come in, I'm usually frantically rushing and NEED my dry cleaning done ASAP. The lady who runs the place always gets it done, no matter what. She even replaced an entire zipper in a dress in 2 days with no rush fees and and the price was completely reasonable. She's also got better prices than most cleaners. She is also a very nice person! Right next to Spa Space and the valet for N9NE is the Fulton River District's cleaners one of the Downtown Cleaners location. They are friendly and execute well. My shirts are always pressed and clipped in to a wrinkle free arms folded position which so far beats any other cleaner I've had in the city by far. They are friendly and have a nice computer system set up that tracks things very well from a receipt barcode and they always know my preferred medium starch. I am a huge fan of Downtown Cleaners. I would give the 5stars,but the last time I did the yelp system filtered out my review (along with 3 other 5 star ratings...shame on you Yelp!). As far as I'm concerned it is the best cleaners in Chicago. I always seem to get stains on my really delicate blouses. No matter what the stain is, she always seems to get it out without ruining my tops. I will not take my clothes anywhere else. Great customer service too! read more

I had my daughter's Uggs repaired at Downtown Cleaners. They had huge tears in both boots and when I had Uggs done at a prior shoe repair place they put a huge patch on the boot and it looked terrible. But, Downtown Cleaners did a fabulous job! i am only providing one star because i have to, there is nothing less. If you value your articles of clothing, i would not use this service. The store owner ruined my clothing (value $800), his solution was "oh well not my fault...i am struggling over here". Not only is the owner rude, the clothing while using his service came out pressed so harshly that all my shirts have come back burnt. I would highly recommend using a different store even if you have to go to another town. That is how bad this place is. I suppose you get what you pay for! read more
