I did an intermediate (3-hour) trip on Sunday 5/19/19. Five of us signed up and we ended up together on the same raft - just us and a guide. Other rafts had 2, 4, and 6 people, so they were really flexible for each group. Our guide was awesome! Super fun to be with and knew the river well so he was always ahead of the game calling out how we should paddle or advance down the river. All the guides were fun and got along with each other and the rafters super well. I highly recommend doing a trip with these folks. I want to do a full day trip with them soon! read more

The check in process was fairly routine, with the desk staff a bit snarky.... We had called in the morning and asked if there was a possibility of adding another person who was tentative. I was assured by phone that they would add a space but not charge us if he was not able to go. I met with a bit of resistance and disbelief that this was the case. Everyone had completed their waivers ahead of time but the desk staff was unable to find them... HMMMMM.. The general instructions were hilarious. The seriousness of paying full attention to our own safety and of others in our was effectively communicated in an engaging way. Our guide Mark was clear and concise with his directions and gave us some historical background and pointed out the wildlife. He was very competent and friendly and we felt safe. Right off the bat it was clear that one raft was very inept and were not following instructions and dumped out almost immediately. I started to be a bit concerned that our rafts were too close together but was having so much fun i ignored it. At one point the struggling raft who was right ahead of us got stuck and although our guide did everything he could our raft ran into theirs and all of us ended up under the raft and through a series of Class 4 rapids. He reacted quickly and efficiently to do all he could to get us back out the water, but that section of the river was very tricky. I could hear my son in law struggling and choking as he was submerged again and again and we all ended up bruised and bleeding after a fairly long ride on our backs banging into the rocks. The instructions we had received were flawless and prepared us well for this experience. We all eventually made it to shore and with help I was rescued by another raft after a long swim! Could this have been prevented? Maybe. The rafts were just too close together for safety perhaps. The guides reacted perfectly and calmly and I am grateful to them but we will not be using this company again. Think twice before doing the intermediate run of the lower clear creek canyon on the weekend! read more

We started out with the beginner trip - it was fun, and definitely a beginner trip down the river. Our guide Russell was awesome, very knowledgeable of the area and gave some great recommendations for food and other activities around the area. After talking to Russell throughout the trip, we decided we would like to try the intermediate course. (Russell also brought his dog who had his own little life jacket, which was also a huge plus) We were lucky to get in to raft the intermediate route the next morning. For this run, our guide was Marky Mark and he was also awesome. I'm not a strong swimmer and was nervous about the potential of falling out of the raft. Mark talked about each rapid and kind of what to expect as we approached each big rapid and what to do if anyone fell out. This was sooooo relieving to me to be mentally prepared for each thing we were about to do. I was SO impressed with the safety measures taken, for COVID and just being on the river. I'd 10/10 recommend Downstream Adventures, and Russell or Mark to be your guide (I'm sure they're all good... but we thoroughly enjoyed these two). It was my husbands birthday and wanted something adventurous. It was our first time and we took the intermediate course. It was an awesome experience, I definitely recommend Kurt as a guide he knows what he's doing plus he is a great character. He guided us to a spot where we can jump into the water where at times it's safe, definitely made the experience that much better. There was a group of 3 as well, and was surprised that we went on two separate boats so definitely felt a more personalized experience instead of fitting all of us in one boat!! I would definitely use this place again for our river rafting when in Denver area. Our schedule check in was at 1:30p on July 3rd. There was so much traffic going up to it, we weren't sure we were going to make it on time. So when I called, Kitta (spelling?) answered. She was so friendly. She just told us to get there asap knowing there was a huge traffic. No worries. When we checked in, the customer service was superb. Very friendly, explained what we needed to do. Super easy. Lindsey was our guide on the intermediate. Very outgoing and energetic. She was so good!!!! We had a blast coming down the river!!!! She explained so well. My friends and I were in Denver for the weekend and this was an easy place to get to (~45 mins away). Our group of 8 did the intermediate level and it was awesome. We were told it was level 4 on a scale of 1-5, which concerned us at first, but it was actually a good level of intensity - not too scary, but still pretty exciting. None of us had any experience whatsoever so pretty sure anybody can do this, especially since there's a guide that's instructing us what to do. Nothing beats the gorgeous scenery traveling through the creek. I feel like Disneyland got inspo from here for their water rides because it's just so damn beautiful. Wetsuits and helmets are all provided, and if you want to you can rent water shoes for $3. I would just rent the shoes because for those of us who just wore old sneakers, our feet were pretty cold. What a blast our entire family had with our amazing guide Johnny! We did the upper Colorado family friendly experience. If you are able to request Johnny as your guide you will see what we mean. He genuinely loves his job, loves life and makes you feel as if you are one of his friends that he has taken on a special trip. He was so sweet to our kids - they still talk about him a week later. The river was beautiful, we got to see a train going past us up on the ridge, Johnny pointed out all kinds of wildlife that he has become familiar with. This was awesome and not expensive! I thought white water rafting would be more expensive, but it was $50 per person; not bad. We did the easy one, since I took my kids (who are 8 & 12) and they really enjoyed it. They were not super scare after they started doing it, and the person who maneuver our raft made it fun, hitting some good areas to get a splash. The pics at the end are a bit overprice, if you have a water proof camera that can be an option. Also no crocs or sandals, or you have to rent yuck smelly shoes from the place. read more

Where do I begin? A more accurate name for this outfit is Downstream DISASTERS! My husband and I signed up for an intermediate trip. Shelled out $178. They took our reservation - good to go, right? So, we booked an overnight trip to Idaho Springs and planned a mini-vacation around this rafting trip. I called the day before to confirm and ask about recommended clothing/gear - the girl who answered the phone seemed out of it and less than helpful, however, she said we were good to go. We signed our online waivers and arrived the next day, to find the office closed. No one there. Two other families showed up, too. We called to find out what was going on. Same girl answered the phone and said the trips had been cancelled due to low water levels. Her solution was to drive over an hour for a level five trip (FIVE? We had a group of beginners and intermediate rafters) or get a refund. No phone calls, emails or texts letting us know this was cancelled. No one at the office to greet us and explain. One family drove from another state and their kids were devastated. THANK GOD for LIQUID DESCENT. They took us in at the last minute and we had a FANTASTIC trip! We did some level three rapids, no problem! Kiersten was a fantastic guide! Other outfits were running - so what the hell was Downstream Adventures problem? Low rent, unreliable garbage operation. This company is amazing. We did an Intermediate/Advanced trip and our guide, Scooby, was incredible. Great communication skills, fun, we always felt safe even during the trickiest rapids. Very highly recommend it. They told us that the owners of the company also lead trips, drive the bus, etc. And that they don't "train" guides so everybody on the raft is a professional leader. After looking at reviews for several places, I chose Downstream for my family's first rafting trip. I am glad I did! Initially my husband, 11 yr old and 15 year old sons were nervous about the idea. We chose the beginners option. They all kept gushing about how fun it was afterward! It's a small business owned by locals with many years of rafting experience. Our guide, Russell, had great things to say about them. Russell has over 12 years experience and is also an avid fly fisherman, so he was giving us lots of interesting tips and tidbits about fishing in the area. He and Lindsey (I think?) were the guides for the two boats going on our trip. Lindsey was super personable and relaxed when handling the training portion and chatting along the van ride. Russell was not only a confident guide, he knew a lot about the types of rapids locally, and was able to predict the maneuvering needed for upcoming hazards throughout the creek. I can't say enough good things about our experience. Tip: apparently the 8:30 am trip is usually a smaller crowd. We were able to have 3 to a boat! read more

I visited Golden CO for a family reunion and managed to gather 9 other family members together to do a morning half day of whitewater rafting with Downstream Adventures after seeing their rafts on clear creek(A misnomer, at least currently, with the crazy snowpack/melt this season. More like a raging river. Evidently we picked the perfect time of year to be out here.) from the Argo gold mine/ore processing plant tour. The rafting tour was conveniently started/finished only a 30ish minute drive outside of West Denver/Golden where we were staying. We had 4 people who signed up for the beginner group(8:30am) and 6 of us who signed up for the intermediate group(9:00am). Jonathan made booking a breeze by explaining the process thoroughly and answering all my questions/concerns for organizing the group while speaking on the phone with me before we booked our reservations online. Additionally, Brian(Bryan?) made checking in a piece of cake once we arrived the morning of our rafting experience. Mac(our gear master/river raft guide), Kurt(our safety kayaker/guide) and Matt(our transport/photo op guru) all provided an exceptional experience through their vast knowledge of rafting, their professionalism, and their humor during our intermediate level white water rafting tour. We had a few adventurous first timers and the crew made sure they were well equipped for the level 3/4 rapids we encountered along the scenic stretch of Upper Clear Creek. I heard from other family members that the beginner group has just of great of a time! The crew was even able to point out some old gold mine tunnel openings along with a current operation or two on the riverbanks for us along the way. We couldn't have asked for a better time wrapping up the family reunion trip to CO! Thanks again Downstream Adventure crew for the epic rafting ! I did the beginner trip with them a few years ago and this year I did the intermediate trip. Next year, advanced! Intermediate trip dumped us down a waterfall in the very beginning which was awesome. This was our first time white river rafting while on a road trip out west. The three of us chose to do an intermediate trip that was half day. The company provides you with wet suits, life jackets, and a helmet. They will also give you a rain jacket which is super helpful. We rented the water booties for 3 bucks a pair and it was well worth it. We went out with Jordan and Mack. Jordan was our guide in our boat and he was very talkative and gave us a lot of history knowledge about the river and the town surrounding it. It was great because it was just three of us in the raft, so not very crowded. Mack was also very helpful when it came to lifting the boat out of the water and what not. Overall it was a great trip and we had so much fun! read more

Being from SoCal there isn't much opportunity to go rafting. So when one of my coworkers invited I knew I couldn't pass this up. I'll start with the safety briefing, it was very informative and made me feel confident that we were in good hands. Our guide Jordan was very knowledgeable and extremely down to earth. He took us down a 7 mile stretch of clear creek and stop a few times so we can take photos and enjoy the scenery. If he tells you to jump on the water just tell him to do it first and he will do it with you. I have to say that I am very satisfied with downstream, the staff and the experience.
