It was the family's first time white water rafting and we did the beginner course, definitely doable and fun! Anthony was an amazing tour guide with great sense of humor, very experienced. They provide wetsuits and water shoes, although your feet are the main thing that gets wet (depending on water conditions). I'd recommend to bring a towel once you get back to the camp for when you change back into your normal clothes. Next time, we'll check out the intermediate portion of the river. It's time to kick some knowledge on Downstream Adventures rafting so follow along. We came with a group of 4 couples and most of them had little to no previous experience in rafting. We signed up for the intermediate level tour and what a blast we had. For those that don't know, this tour consisted of class 3-4 level rapids and required everyone to participate- or should I say paddle. We went late in the season so the water level was low which made things slightly more difficult as hitting more rocks was likely. Anyways, we grabbed our guide Philip and headed off. Philip was a great guide and if you get the chance I highly recommend using him. Word from Boat Crew 2 is Tippy was solid too. He had a great attitude and gave all of us clear instructions. As we floated down the river we had the typical bumps and spins. Some areas were a little harry but nothing extreme. A few people in different boats had a few fall out during the trip but nobody was ejected and nearly every boat got high-sided on a rock or two which required the boat captain to work a bit. Aside from that, everything went pretty smoothly. During one point we came across this dude who was fishing. He was absolutely lost and had no idea what he was doing. As boats got close to him he continued casting where most people would wait until the boat passed. Well, not this village idiot. This clown literally cast his line into our boat and snagged someone in our boat landing the hook into her shorts. All in all, this was a great trip and everyone had a blast. My buddies AnnTony and T-Bone were in another boat and even though they are generally grumpy and stubborn they also had a great time. Next time you are in the Denver area and if your looking for some fun and adventure, I highly recommend you check them out- you won't be disappointed. Two thumbs up! Oh, I nearly forgot about the bus. So, if you don't know, you have to jump on a yellow school bus to be brought to/from the river from the store. The bus ride itself was an E ticket ride. The best way to describe it would be picture the video game Grand Theft Auto where you can upgrade your car to a tank or school bus. Let's just say we were had fun. Good times. read more

This was our first family trip and the Downstream team was great! The instructions were clear, check in and safety talk was to the point, and we got all decked out in the appropriate gear. Our guide Joe was great! We went with an almost 6 and almost 8 year old, neither of whom could really handle paddling, but Joe kept them safe, entertained, and plenty wet. This was a great trip! Really great experience from start to finish. After checking in you load onto a bus to drive over to the starting point. This was our first time rafting and we had our 10 year old with us. The guides explained everything thoroughly without over inundating us with information. Our guide, Dez, was great. She was commanding with what she needed us to do while being nice at the same time. The first half of the trip is a lot of rapids and at around the halfway point we got the opportunity to jump off a 25 foot cliff into the water. My son and I did it and it was a rush! The last half of the trip was calmer waters and a good way to come down before ending the trip. Highly recommend this company to anyone wanting to raft in the area! read more

I would definitely recommend this establishment for rafting. We went as a group of 5 with a small child. The company set us up on beginner rafting trip that varied from calm waters all the way up to Level 3 rapids. Our guide was knowledgeable and provided excellent service. Even with our small child we felt safe the entire time but had a blast. The one thing I would caution if driving in from Denver is give yourself plenty of time to get there. We left from Denver and Google maps showed a 55 minute drive . It took us over two and a half hours to get there with Colorado's super low speed limit and ungodly traffic. We were moving at 4-15mph for 80% of the journey. This obviously isn't the businesses fault just don't plan on being able to zip right in as the locals said bad traffic on 70 is the norm . read more

We did the beginner/intermediate guided tour. Our guide was Sarah and she was great. She knew a lot about the river we were going down and did well guiding us. Our raft only had one person who had ever rated before, so we were a raft full of novices. The route we took consisted of class 1 through 3 rapids. Even though our route wasn't too difficult or dangerous, the guides gave us safety instructions to cover even the most rigorous rapids or situation. Couldn't be happier with choosing this company to white water raft. My boyfriend and I are 24 years old & both weren't experienced with white water rafting. We chose the intermediate raft and I HIGHLY recommend! It was a thrill and the views through out rafting were beautiful. Our guide was 'Scooby' and he made the experience one we'll never forget. Just did a trip them a week ago and it was fantastic! I've rafted class 3-4+ rapids before with a family friend that was a guide. This was my first time paying a company so I wasn't sure that the Intermediate ride would be all that challenging/exciting. Ohhhh it was!! It was my boyfriend's first time rafting and he loved it. He said as a first timer he felt prepared and safe. The guides are thorough in their safety talks, answer any and all questions and concerns, and know what they are doing. If you aren't in stellar shape, familiar with rafting, or a strong paddler stick with the intermediate trip initially. I promise you'll love it. It's been 10 years since I've been on a trip and I'm happy I didn't jump on the advanced one. The section of river we were on was beautiful. The water was a little lower so the rafting was technical in some parts. I've never fallen out of the raft on a trip before until this time. That's all part of the fun but it can be scary. Because of the safety talk I knew exactly what to do and got myself to safety. Our guide was able to come help me out pretty quick. Sam was our guide. He was a wealth of knowledge and a great time, as were all the other guides! If I'm ever in Colorado again, I will be back. read more

This was one of our best experiences during our week in Colorado! Shaun really made our whole family feel safe and comfortable -including my 60 year old mom who was initially terrified but then was smiling and having a great time the whole ride! Our adult kids enjoyed cliff-jumping, and we even got to see a Bald Eagle on the river bank! I booked an "intermediate" rafting trip with three friends. It was my first time white water rafting in Colorado but I have been before in the southeast. The facility is nice, the guides are fantastic and thorough, and the shuttle ride wasn't too long. Wetsuits are provides but don't have sleeves. My husband and I gave his younger brothers (13 and 15) their choice of several Colorado-style adventures to chose from as their Christmas gift. They're from Pennsylvania, so they don't have access to as many outdoor activities as we do in Colorado. One of the chose rafting while the other chose mountain biking. There are so many rafting companies located near Denver, I was overwhelmed trying to pick one. After a lot of research, I felt like Downstream was the right pick. I especially liked that they were a small company as opposed to the "big guys" who just heard droves of people down the river like sheep. Their online booking system was seamless and I was able to have the boys (and their mom) fill out the waivers online as opposed to carrying paperwork all the way from Pennsylvania. On the day of our trip, all of the staff members were extremely cheerful and helpful. We just brought swimsuits and sport sandals and Downstream outfitted up with the rest. I especially liked the splash coat because it meant I didn't need to apply sunscreen. Our guides name was Mark and he was rad! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and competent. He took the time to learn our names and get to know us a little bit too which wouldn't have happened with some of the bigger companies. We had a great trip! Mark even gave us a recommendation for a short hike to a waterfall as well as a restaurant recommendation for lunch, bot of which were just what we wanted. Beware of this company if you care about safety!! We took the "beginner" trip in clear creek with our sons (ages 7-14) and my mom (~80). We selected this trip, which is advertised for families and those with no prior experience, specifically due to the young and old ages in our group. On the river, our guide (Kurt) told us he liked to push the envelope and didn't follow all the rules. Without us asking, he told us we were going to take on water and the boat was going to tilt. He then turned the boat around, "surfed" against the current, the bow took on water, and the boat turned/tilted. My 7 year old was up to his belly button in water and cried out that he didn't like this. Both of my other boys fell out! My middle son was sucked under the boat and emerged absolutely terrified. He told us he thought he was going to drown. We understand that rafting is inherently dangerous, but our guide purposely and needlessly engaged in a risky activity that we didn't ask for, and it left our group terrified. If my little one or Mom fell out, they could have easily been severely injured or worse. We complained to management and they defended the guide's behavior as acceptable - he was just trying to show us a good time. We never got any kind of apology. Anyway, we recommend rafting on clear creek for families/beginners; just do it with another company if you care about the safety of your group. This company does not. read more
