In Florida we catch bass but trout is something they've always wanted to catch. We were staying at the Rocky Mountain YMCA about an hour away and we spent the week exploring and looking for an option to catch trout for big surprise on Friday. They updated social media said they are currently open fri-Mon. So even though nobody answers the phone when we tried to call on Wednesday and Thursday we wanted to trust that their website, that Google, that Apple Maps, all shows they are open Friday. Friday morning we checked out of our hotel drove there to find a sign that says we are open Friday through Monday and another sign next to it that says currently closed. As you can see in the picture, it is 1 PM on a Friday when they're saying they should be open... super bummed because we don't have enough time before our flight to find another option and we had planned on this all week. Maybe another year we can try to catch a trout.

One of the guides, Pete contacted us as was absolutely amazing. We learned about him taking his grandson fishing and even about his dog. Pete was in constant contact making sure we had all the info, directions as there is very poor cell service where we will be fishing. We even decided to bring special treats for his dog. The trip is scheduled for tomorrow and we are so excited, all our gear is laid out including 3 bags of dog treats. My wife and I left multiple messages with Golden River Sports saying it was for Travis explaining we were extremely happy about how wonderful Pete the guide for Wednesday is but not a word from the guide for Thursday. After days of no phone calls from Travis or GRS I called and explained we are not comfortable or happy about the lack of professional conduct from Thursday's guide or GRS so cancel Thursday but we are excited about how great the guide for Wednesday is. On Tuesday We finally get a call from Travis and he says has no clue about any of this he was just confirming our booking. I explained there is a big issue with professionalism and communication with GRS and we canceled Thursday but were very excited and were very impressed with Wednesday guide Pete. He stated " thank you for bringing this to my attention but I don't feel comfortable about sending my guide out with you. I said I'm just bringing this to your attention and love working with Pete. He said he was canceling our trip! At this point now I'm mad! I try to help this guy and tell him we have no problem with Pete and it's your company that has the problem. I then stated I better not see one penny charged on my credit card!!!so we drove here from Iowa, rented an Airbnb waiting to go on our bucket list fly fishing trip and paid all this money to squeeze in 2 days of fishing. Now I ask you would you want to trust your money or precious time with a company like this??? Buyer beware!

Showed up and signed release forms, grabbed gear and watched a safety video. Checked our gear before piling into vans and heading out. Got an impromptu guided tour on the way up. Arrived at the our "eddy in" spot, paired up and then the guides gave a detailed orientation, followed by rechecks of our gear. We were given a mock safety instruction for on the water. Let me make it clear, the staff jokes around but safety is paramount for them. Jim was our guide and he put us at ease immediately. They explained water was high and faster from snow melt before we left which equivocated to Class III conditions. We signed up for beginner and ended up with intermediate/expert( go figure) We shoved off and had the best time our of lives!! We launched airborne a few times, defiantly got soaked. By the way, the water is cold. By the time we got to twister, which was the term used for different whitewater parts of the river by the guides we were hooked and wanted more. It's amazing and we would recommend it to anyone looking to have a great time. Hats off to Geo, their operation and their staff!!

Our guide was Katie, a 17 year old young lady who was incredibly engaged with us, pleasant and shared historical information on the mining days in Central City and pointed out interesting things along our ride. The entire ride was beautiful, often through trees and remnants of the mining days. Definitely historical! At the top of the trail ( we went on the 1.5 hour ride) there was a majestic view of Mount Evans and the Colorado landscape in all its beauty. We don't horseback ride a lot but we will come here again and recommend A&a Stables to everyone!
