There's also the lovely Clear Creek River which you can dip your feet into. This space is gorgeous if you want to see the changing autumn leaves and capture some great photos. Visiting this park made a recent visit so much more beautiful and memorable…read more Temps were low and the wind chill so biting that one of our hosts immediately retreated back to the vehicle while the remaining three of us walked around the edge of the snow-covered lake and trail and then stepped onto the frozen lake - a first time for 2:3 of us!! The second host soon retreated to the car as well while us two, non-locals carried on - not knowing when - if ever - we might get to return...and having the curiosity of cats. Glad we were that we opted for a short out-and-back hike on Chicago Lakes Trail!! The views were breathtaking and well worth fighting the cold to see!

And maybe no other place on earth that would treat you better. With some of the most beautiful views of the Ten Mile and Gore Ranges imagineable, tis truly a privilege to live in Colorado.

She tailored our ride to how "spicy" we wanted to make it, so since it was our first time rafting, that made us feel great. The trip was the perfect level of excitement for us as beginners. It was fun, thrilling, and adventurous without ever feeling overwhelming. My sons, ages 10 and 13, had an absolute blast and want to plan another trip back. We even got to see a bald eagle along the river, it was phenomenal. The weather was perfect, and the whole experience was incredibly well organized. It's also just under two hours from Denver, making it a great day trip. We really appreciated the free parking, and they kept our car keys safely in the office while we were out on the river. We felt completely comfortable leaving everything else locked in our car. We couldn't have asked for a better first rafting experience. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone, especially families and first-time rafters. Definitely opt for the photo package too - the pictures we received were stunning and memorable. I was so nervous walking in, but from the moment we arrived, every single staff member made us feel welcomed, safe, and supported. Our guide, Koa, was the perfect balance of fun, kind, and incredibly skilled. He guided us through the rapids with such confidence and ease while also making sure everyone felt safe and included. He checked in on us several times throughout and made sure we were having fun, asked us if we wanted to "spice it up" a bit or keep it mellow and just really let us know this was "our" trip and he's cater to what we wanted. I quickly found myself letting go of fear and enjoying the moment... something I didn't expect would happen. Koa's energy was contagious, and his calm, respectful nature made us feel like we were in the best hands possible. At one point on the river, another rafting company had a mishap and we had to pull over and wait for them to recover and get their riders back into the raft safely. Koa explained what had happened with total grace - no judgment, no gossip - just a calm and respectful explanation. He also spoke so kindly of his own coworkers and even the owner of Liquid Descent. You could tell he genuinely cares about the rafting community and takes pride in his work and LOVES his Liquid Descent family! Every employee we encountered was friendly, encouraging, and helpful - from getting us fitted with helmets and life jackets to cheering us on as we headed out. As someone who started out nervous, that kind of supportive vibe made a huge difference. They encouraged me, and they helped me push past my comfort zone in the best way possible. What a GREAT memory! We will remember this day not only for the thrill of the rapids, but for the kindness and heart of the people who guided us through it! You start off at 10380 feet at the entry in elevation to reach 10730 feet at the first glacier lake. It is so beautiful! We hiked up around noon and saw a few deer along the way. There was a great group of folks going up or down sharing their experiences. A couple from Michigan rally enjoyed going up to the 2nd lake toward the top. Just as breathtaking from the pictures they shared with us today. Parking is easy on the app, well worth the $20 for all day parking. Restrooms are close by and very clean.

It was still covered in snow. The lake was iced over. The glacier looked beautiful. We talked to a family whose young son hiked up the top and then snowboarded down by himself! We parked in the small lot just across the trailhead. It was $20 and you pay by scanning the QR code. There was one porta potty there. There were other lots that were charging $10 but farther from the trailhead.

My legs hurt and I was dehydrated as shit because my moron friends didn't want to stop for food / water beforehand (big mistake). This wasn't the end of the world though due to the natural streams throughout the trek. Just dip your head in for some of the coolest most refreshing water you have ever tasted. Seriously, it beats the hell out of a bottle of Poland Spring or Fiji or whatever your posh ass is used to. I may retract that statement in a week when I have a tadpole making a nest (or whatever tadpoles do) inside of my stomach but for now ... yeah ... refreshing :) Get there early and have a car that you can beat up a little / SUV since there is about 4 miles of hilly dirt roads to get to the trail-head. I recommend hiking boots but I was fine in sneakers. Definitely take snacks / water and if your friends convince you otherwise just poke them hard in the gut with your hiking poles / stick (yes you probably want these too) until they cave in and stop the car for you. The trail is easy to follow. There is a split after about 1 - 1.5 miles up that has you chose between Apache Trail and Diamond Lake. We went for the lake. You will know you are there. If you miss it, congrats, you will probably be some giant grizzly bear's dinner that night. It was one of the more beautiful hiking sites I have bore witness to. For an added bonus and guys if you don't mind your balls retreating up into your stomach for warmth, take off those shoes and climb onto that rock in the center of the lake for some incredible panorama photos. The area surrounding the lake is great for a nap, a picnic, a read, etc. On our way down we stumbled across a man who sprained his ankle about 2 miles in. As a 9 person bachelor party we helped carry him 2 miles to the bottom. Humanitarian mission of Colorado has been complete, sites have been seen, and headache from altitude sickness is quickly on-setting due to lack of nutrients and H20. Despite hunger and a pounding headache, I definitely want to get back to the area and try a few other trails. Such an amazing escape from my normal city life.

A walk in the park…read more Wanting to see the beauty of Colorado, Sammy took us to Evergreen Lake for an afternoon walk. What we didn't anticipate was this place being a hotspot for local residents and tourists to check out (not that we weren't also lumped into those categories). By some stroke of luck, Sammy scoped out a parking spot and we got to experience something more than a walk around a lake. We headed towards the main house and there was a bunch of people milling about due to being pulled out of the water due to potential lightning strikes. On top of that, the house on the lake was closed for a special event. That may explain the amount of people in the park. Anywho, we were there for a walk and that's what we headed out to do. The trail around the lake is 1.25 miles and every step was just breathtaking scenery after breathtaking scenery. At about the halfway point, we started to head into an area with a bridge and a waterfall. This place was extra breathtaking due to the waterfall being an unexpected welcome on a lake. As we headed further on the trail, we heard music and decided to investigate. We wound up at a bar called Cactus Jack's Saloon & Grill. I don't plan on reviewing that place but we did stop in for a few beers and some of the most delicious nachos I had in a long time. While we sat, there was a lovely creek running along the bar that made sitting outside a preferred place than inside. Once we got done eating, we hit the rest of the trail and it's just more and more of beautiful views and lush greenery. I could've gone for another stroll around the trail/lake if time allowed but we had a beer festival to attend later this day so we hit the road again to prepare for that. I've done a lot of outdoors stuff and seen a lot of what mother nature has to offer but it never gets old taking in her beauty. If you've never experienced Colorado or the moutains... do yourself a favor and add it to your Bucket List.

This was yet another summer destination that my husband brought us to in hopes of reliving his…read morechildhood. Turquoise Lake is actually human-made, part of the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. It's a clean reservoir with two of Colorado's highest peaks, Mount Massive and Mount Elbert, as its backdrop. Surrounding Turquoise Lake are fairly clean picnic areas with picnic tables, campfire rings, and grills. These are first-come, first-served. No fees for day use. Also, there are 8 campgrounds - many of which we drove through for scouting purposes, although, we loved our site at the Father Dyer Campground. (Not a bad site anywhere.
