Original post is below the line (Yelp doesn't give the opportunity to respond directly) I do notice a pattern between Heather and Scott that the customer is always wrong when there is an issue. (For example, Heather was aware I was moving from the West Coast - Seattle (they had an annual permit that the home owner was responsible for and my alarm company told me prior what the rules were. ) Heather mentions that I received an email proposal - but the email chain shows I was directly informed about the rules in Sandy Springs only AFTER I brought it up. I guess I can post it if needed to show the actual chain of communication she references vs. just sharing a part of it. Also, Scott, twice told me on the phone that it was not his responsibility to have informed me of the Sandy Springs regulations). He also threatened me twice about libel (I literally had to ask him if he even knew the legal definition...that stopped that conversation). And I'm curious what my contract length and wanting a lower rate has anything to do with this...if you're having to stretch to find things to complain about a customer that is very lame. Again, I don't see any level of responsibility from them regarding the situation. To be fair, Scott did say they would allow me to cancel the contract - which I will see if he will hold to that after I find a new company. So, why did I wait to post this review? Having found out last minute, I accepted the contract as I was under a deadline to get the system installed and did not want to go through the process of trying to find another company (though I now wish I had). So, I accepted what was provided knowing I would be in it for the contract term. But as of late, they decided to keep sending me email after email after email asking for a review. Well, if they are going to persistent in asking for a review, I thought I would give them the one they deserved (vs. the one they wanted). _________________________________________________________________________________ SANDY SPRINGS ALERT! - it was only just before installation did I learn that the Sandy Springs Police Dept will only respond to alarms if they have a visual confirmation that there is a problem. (I guess, they had issues with many false alarms). I accidentally stumbled upon information on the True Verification which was verified by American Alarm. If I had not brought it up, I would have never known. And they could sell me a camera - but one camera was $270+ and they don't have the capability to monitor the cameras at their call center - SERIOUSLY!!! (If you just need a camera system go with Blink....if you need an alarm with a system that will call the police - I suggest simplisafe. ) And don't get me started on the service you get when they call when the alarm does go off-- one time, I couldn't remember my pass code and just said sorry (as I was heading to the control box to turn it off). The response -ok and we hung up. Obviously, I've been stuck in the contract but I'm hoping no one else will be fooled by American Alarm into thinking they have an actual working security system that will provide assistance.

Do NOT switch back to Ackerman. Ackerman used to be a…read moretrustworthy company, but that changed after the owner passed away. When the company changed ownership, my account was sold to ADT without my knowledge. I only found out when I started receiving bills from a different company. When I contacted ADT (my "new company") to ask what was going on, the explanations were vague. Eventually, I received an email saying Ackerman was still operating and encouraging me to switch back. Because I'd had several issues with ADT in the past, I decided to return to Ackerman. Terrible mistake. Basically Ackerman sold my account and then convinced me to buy it back. The representative that came to my home, Natalie, told me I needed a new control panel and other replacement equipment, to the tune of around $1,000. I was also advised not to cancel ADT until an Ackerman tech came out to activate my service, which meant I had to pay both companies for the same month. On top of that, Ackerman charged me two weeks before my service agreement was even scheduled to begin. It's been several months and Natalie (who was supposed to be my point person for Ackerman) will not reposed to me inquires. Based on my experience, if your account has already been transferred to ADT, I would recommend staying put. For me, it wasn't worth the extra cost or frustration.

Legally, I do not have to send in a picture of myself, but I may have if they would have politely stated this in the responding email. I personally do not think it is an ethical company, nor do they have a descent customer service department.

After a near-miss with some lightning, which completely knocked out my First Alert system, I found out how Ackerman makes all their money - the estimate was over $650 to replace the board and that didn't include any additional bits that might need replacing (had to replace two door sensors too). I ended up buying my own Ademco kit and hiring SPS for both the install and monitoring. This time I went with a wireless unit for phone (the lightning came in via the phone line - it actually hit the service pole). A call brought Bo Beaven from SPS out to look things over and give me an estimate - their hourly rate was HALF what Ackerman charges - and since I got my own equipment when John the installer came out it was a breeze, and half again the estimated time I got from Ackerman. The entire experience was fantastic. I also ended up using them for the monitoring - which came out about the same as what Ackerman was charging me, even with the added expense for the cell service on the wireless phone. Recently I was throwing a code and was able to get a human on the phone with the first call, and get a live technician with instructions to clear the code over the phone. To top it off they're coming by next week to take another look to make sure that there isn't an issue with the wireless - that's what I call CUSTOMER SERVICE!
