This was my first visit, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet my expectations. I arrived around 8:00 PM, and the drinks were disappointing. Additionally, every food item that was served arrived completely cold, which significantly impacted the overall dining experience. I will say that the customer service was excellent, and the staff was courteous and attentive. However, I was disappointed that no manager made an effort to come to the table to address the concerns or acknowledge the experience. Overall, despite the great customer service, the quality of the food and drinks, along with the lack of management follow-up, left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I will not be returning.

I was in San Antonio for business and found this place about a mile from the hotel downtown.... After a short Lyft ride because we didn't know what we would be walking through.... We made it. We were seated outside, they had fans with misters and trees.... It was super awesome and a great atmosphere!! I got the steak medallions chimichurri..... with grilled asparagus and onion rings.... It was fantastic!!! Our waitress was super friendly and provided great recommendations..... I would definitely eat here again! This is located in the pearl district which was also fun to walk around for a little bit. Oh... and the carrot cake was delicious. It came out warm... which was new for me. Normally I am a chilled carrot cake kinda guy.... But none the less it was fantastic!

We took grad pics in the area and walked over to this restaurant. The vibe was pretty eclectic and that's probably because there were multiple grad parties dining both inside and out. We were seated quickly. Service was great as my friend's steak had to be sent back a couple of times due to temperature...... it was fixed without hassle! Manager brought it out and allowed her to cut it to ensure it was to her liking. We were composited with strawberry cake and myyyyy goodness that cake is a show stopper!! Moist! Full of flavor! Can serve 2-3 people I had fish tacos. When I revived my order my initial reaction was oh no corn tortillas! I don't think that was disclosed on menu BUT I was pleasantly surprised the tortillas weren't tough or chewy. Very flavorful too. Our party enjoyed our experience

Wedge salad, no tomatoes

My #1 pregnancy craving was the wedge salad from Down on Grayson. Is the lettuce simply a vehicle for the dressing and toppings? 100%, but my gosh, the whole thing is delicious. It's a huge salad and I eat the whole thing every time. I'm always the last one to finish their meal when I get this because I'm stuffing the whole plate into my mouth. The blue cheese dressing is incredible with lots of nice chunks of cheese. Beyond the wedge salad, we always have very good service here with attentive waitstaff and quick turnaround times for drinks and food.

Chopped Caesar with Crispy Chicken

Came here with a group of friends on a busy Saturday morning and did not have to wait very long for a table (less than 5 mins). My friend asked for a latte without sugar or sweetener and was given a sweetened latte, they said they always add sweetener? He didn't drink it. My chopped Caesar salad was really good!! Chicken was seasoned amazingly and my friends loved the portion sizes of their sandwiches and fries and the taste. Cute interior and lots of outdoor seating as well near the farmers market. Overall: decent place for brunch in SA

Here to for the first time!

Was very excited to try this place for hr first time. The outside is very nice and well decorated and with shades and fans throughout the patio. Place looks nice and fancy on the outside side and inside. While searing outside waiting for our number to be buzzed, while waiting under a tree (shade), I got pooped on by a bird! Our number was called and walked in and we walked inside to a line of people waiting to be assigned to their seats. People were going around the line to the hostess without waiting in line like the others. Very unorganized way to greet and seat people. We ordered fried chicken and anticucho with a couple of mojitos. First the anticucho meat came cold, as it didn't event get reheated or for that fact, cooked fresh! Had to re-take the plate back due to the meat being cold. Not even two minutes passed and we had the plate back. Meat was microwave hot and everything else was still cold. But, we decided not to waste time and just ate what we had ordered. Alcohol drinks were good but they overfill the small glasses with lots of ice! Over all, closed to $100 for fried chicken, chunk of small cutting steak w/hard to chew nerves. Very disappointing experience! Check other places to enjoy your hard earned money and not here.

Down on Grayson is a cool spot. The vibe seems to be trendy for the area. They offer a few TVs in the bar area of you're looking to post up for a bite to eat and a little something to eat. It's a small menu that features sandwiches and salads but does offer entrees such as steak and chicken dishes. For the items that are offered on the menu; they all seem basic but yet are pricey. They have some of the best onion rings and roasted Brussels sprouts that I've had in SATX Service was pretty good for what seemed to be a busy evening.

My friends and I enjoyed our lunch at Down on Grayson! All the staff members were very kind and patient with our large group. The restaurant inside was clean and had a fresh ambiance. The crispy chicken sandwich was a flavor bomb! Chicken was crispy (not greasy) as promised, however, I would've liked it to be meatier. Mac and cheese was ooey-gooey and comforting. We had the best time here! Definitely would come again to try the thai steak salad or another fun dish on the menu!

What a great experience Caitlin our server was great We had an outdoor table. It was so nice for a change to be at a casual formal restaurant where the music wasnt too loud to even chat. It was perfect. Cozy calm music ...and such a calm outdoor setting The food was really good too. The only complaint we had is that the bun on the fish sandwich was not good. Carrot cake and the prickly pear nojito was so good Another good thing is they validate your parking which is a great thing at the pearl district

We enjoyed DOG on a beautiful April evening outside under the umbrellas. Food was delicious, and the service was perfect!

The food was amazing. Lizzie, our server was equally as amazing as the food! My fillet was cooked a little bit more than what I ordered; But Aaron and Lizzie worked hard to make it right. Very happy With the experience. We will definitely return.

Down on Grayson is always a favorite to go to! Whether it's for lunch, pregame-ing or even dinner they always have good drink specials and amazing food. My visit this past week was for lunch and the visit was exceptional. We were seated outside for immediate seating. They had plenty of fans with misters going and lots of shade to help facilitate the afternoon breeze. Service was extremely fast and we received our food maybe 15-20mins after we placed our orders. Unfortunately, no military discount offered but with one drink and one salad the cost was around $40 after tip. My Cobb salad was the perfect portion size (just enough to feel full but not feel like I've overeaten) with just enough dressing to where it wasn't sopping. Fresh lettuce and veggies to follow with two pieces of fresh bread. Absolutely delicious!!! I've been coming here for years so it's safe to say that I will definitely return!

Nice to sit outside in March, but i door tables available. Comfy lighting and tables. Good music. Attentive staff. Not too loud to talk, but loud enough to bring the kids. Parking lot in front. Good food. Nice large wedge salad. And grouper in San Antonio! All dishes well prepared, all happy with their meal. Recommend.

Does anyone know if their strawberry cake is made in-house, or if they sell the full cake?

I know! The vendor is "The Ultimate Cheesecake Bakery"-- they are a commercial bakery up near the Thousand Oaks/Wetmore area. They sell their cakes to several local places; notably you can get the same exact strawberry cake but in a smaller slice at…

Do they take reservations?

No u fortunately so go early for lunch at 11am or you may have up to an hour wait

Is there a wait?

Like with any place there is going to be a wait in the evenings or on the weekends. If going for lunch during a week day there is typically no wait.

Any keto friendly eats here?

They have items that are or can be made to be kept friendly. There are a lot of protein items on the menu that you can get with substitute sides.

Beer, wine and pizza...what's not to love about The Growler Exchange?…read more For those of you who have never been to this amazing business before, The Growler Exchange is a tap room and restaurant which carries a huge variety of unique beers, as well as some of the most delicious pizza you've ever had in your life. I've been a regular at this restaurant for 5 years and I can tell you that quality has stayed the same throughout the years. I also appreciate that they now have a bigger variety of wines and you can also buy beer and wine to-go. If you are looking to try their amazing pizza, their most popular pie (and my husband's favorite) is their Mike's Special which is a red sauce pizza with mozzarella, pepperoni, bacon and topped with honey drizzle. However, if you prefer something spicy (like I do), I highly recommend their Spicy Meat Sweats which is also a red sauce pizza with mozzarella, garlic sausage, pepperoni, salami, bacon and topped with some very spicy chili oil. Hope everyone gets to try this amazing local business, and don't forget to bring your growler with you! PSA for the parents: They do welcome kids, and they even have a changing station in the women's bathroom.

We were staying an…read moreairbnb just down Grayson from Slow Ride, so it was the perfect place to stop for a drink and catch up with my brother. The bar really couldn't be cooler. It has the decor and vibes of a midwestern dive bar in the 70s: retro bar furniture, old signs, neon, and wood paneling. They have a simple but perfect bar menu: beers, classic cocktails, and a couple of wines. I had a martini; my brother had a daquiri; and my husband had a couple of Lone Stars. The service good. The drinks were good. The vibes were perfect (they even had Selena playing on the TV over the bar - which made me feel right at home). I don't want to sound 100, but the DJ was way too loud for me on a Friday night (we couldn't hear each other talk),but otherwise the bar was the perfect place for Friday night drinks. Slow Ride offers a dive-ish alternative to the more polished, fancy places just down the road at the Pearl. If you're looking for something with lots of character, Slow Ride might be perfect.

Parking along the street is free (along the fence line of Sam Houston) and was not an issue even for a holiday. There is a paid parking lot that is secure and available too so note that if ever you have an issue finding a good spot. Walking into Slow Ride is like walking into your tio's (uncle) or a grandpa's cool, 70's/80;s vibey, and home-y bar. This is the kind of spot where every picture you take of yourself, or your friends, will look like you took it in the 80's! This is not a bad thing either. Seriously. It IS A VIBE here! Cushy seats at the bar was my favorite spot to hang out while we had some cold beers and a shot to go alongside it too. They have beer and shot combos here around $8. You get plenty of choices on beer and liquor of choice. I opted for a tallboy Lonestar and a small shot of the Mexican Candy. My sister got a Live Oak Hefe in a can (she likes Blue Moon so this was the closest thing to it and she liked it!) and later a Shiner in a bottle. I also decided to close out with a daiquiri that was super delicious and offered in nice glassware. Patio out in the back is spacious and a great spot to hang out with a group of friends. The back space is taken care of and has a modern look to it out there. I can see it being a nice vibe outside on a pretty day too. Jukebox is legit! All great music selections from all genres on CDs and pretty cheap too to play 5-8 songs. The artwork around here is worth a look around too. I love all the unique Garfield toys surrounding the bar area too. All of the back bar is so great with the wooden shelving and lighting too. You can see many honorable nods to those who currently or have served. It's a great thing to see especially so close to Sam Houston. One thing I have a pet peeve on is any service bar who has to keep my card on file. I am the worst person who won't remember so I have to be extra careful when bars keep my card. I usually walk and don't mind paying the 20+% tab walk fee but I do want my card back so I have to get everyone who is with me to remind me to go get it. That's why I am giving it 4 stars. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and bringing some more family and friends, though. This spot is so nostalgic and their social is super active and will promote DJs and sets happening that week and into the weekend. Go check them out and play some pool. You're gonna feel like you are in a Matthew McConaughey movie when you do. Tell me I am wrong!!!

We placed the order and it promptly arrived. The prices were certainly reasonable. The service to the table was great. The interior is rather sterile - but has various accoutrements to some what offset that - certainly not like a pub warm feeling. The beer I order was maybe a C+. It seemed a bit flat, but had a good taste. The hamburger, Grand Tour Hamburger, at $16.50 was really enjoyable. I requested it not be "smashed" ( I don't like smash burgers) and to be cooked rare - but it came out medium well. Nevertheless the flavors of the meat and toppings were quite satisfying. I think I return and find a beer that I may really like. Then that may elevate Breakaway to a 5 star - it is almost there now.

Having said this, rest assured my three star review has nothing to do with that aspect. It's your "typical" sports bar. Plenty of TVs... Stage for live music... Pool tables... Video games, etc. I sat myself and was approached pretty quickly by the bartender. The bartender gave me her honest opinion between two items on the menu, and I ended up going with the patty melt. Food came out quickly. Food was hot. I'm not a huge fan of natural cut fries to begin with... But in general, I found the fries still a little bit "soggy"... Could've been crispier. The patty melt was plenty large. However, the garlic aïoli, which was fantastic caused the toast had become soggy and mushy toward the end. Overall, not any better or worse than a patty melt I've had anywhere else. It is not a location I wouldn't go out of my way to return. I found the pricing pretty good.
