    Avocado/cucumber/jalapeno hand rolls

Such a cute little spot with amazing food! It's not easy to find vegetarian hand rolls made with soy paper, so this place was a great find. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. The service was fast, and our server was really friendly too.

他们的清酒居然20美金一小壶,服务员一脸的不情愿,清酒还不是热的,不过是一点的温,我的天!!没有其他客人的餐厅,算是好处还是坏处?坏人‍ Their sake was a whopping $20 a small jug! The waiter looked reluctant, and the sake wasn't even hot, just lukewarm! My goodness! Is a restaurant with no other customers a good thing or a bad thing? Bad guy ‍

I came here based on my friend's recommendation and with her for dinner. I'm so glad we came here because it is also now one of my favorites. They have a good amount of seating inside with sushi bar seating and tables as well. We sat at the sushi bar because we loved watching them work. I got the crispy rice spicy salmon, and the crunch tuna sushi roll. It was so delicious. I also tried my friend's salmon hand roll and it was so good at the end of my meal I also ordered one. A really solid spot for sushi!

really good value meal. the temaki platter is beautifully presented and it's really fun to make your own handrolls. It's also so much food - I was so full after! Favorites were the spicy tuna and nigiri like pieces (tuna, salmon, yellowtail). The rice itself was also delicious - definitely sushi rice texture and a bit vinegary. Miso soup was also good!! The toro was not very fresh though and the scallop was doused in sauce, and I also did not like the fish that basically had sriracha on the top (top middle piece). Overall though, not bad and really good value. and super fun!

A wonderful, small-ish non pretentious hand roll / sushi spot that comes at reasonable prices. I got the 5 roll Matsu combo ($30). The rolls are very well made, flavorful, and delicious. My favorites were the spicy crispy tuna and the crab. They were all unique and wonderful though! The Temaki Set ($53) is SO MUCH FOOD. Service is swift and polite. All around a great spot for a casual dinner :)

Low key omakase with great service and fish is very fresh! I started with the sake flight which I enjoyed. For food, we had the crispy rice and madai crudo which were both delicious. We then got the matsu handroll set which was the perfect amount of food however, I ordered another spicy scallop handroll because it was so good. Definitely make sure to check out the bathroom as they have a heated toilet and cool plant window!

Reasonable prices with decent quality Look, we all know this area is absolutely saturated with Japanese restaurants. You can throw a rock and hit three different sushi spots, so it takes a lot for a place to truly stand out to me. I stopped in for dinner and decided to go with the 5-Hand Roll Set (though they have a solid a la carte menu and some great-looking sake flights if you're thirsty ). The absolute highlight here is the pacing. There is nothing worse than ordering hand rolls and having them all arrive at once, getting soggy while you work through the first one. Here, the chef is literally watching you. They make the rolls one by one, handing you the next one only after you finish the previous one. Because of that, the quality is insane. The nori is still warm and crispy, offering that perfect "snap" when you bite into it, contrasting with the cool, fresh fish inside.

Went for a quick solo lunch on a weekend and it was pretty empty so I was able to get seated right away without a reservation. Really affordable temaki sets! I got the Douska six handroll set for $38 before tax and tip. Would recommend and go again if I'm ever in LES!

This place probably has my favorite food in all of New York. I always get a few a la carte hand rolls and the fish is so incredibly fresh and perfectly prepared. I love watching the chefs prepare the food and love that the restaurant isn't too pretentious or stuffy. To me, it's the best of the best.

    Andrew H.

I've been here twice and I... can't really find anything special about this place. I think it's at a good price point for New York, but the quality is pretty much what you'd expect at this price point (nothing special). I got the 5 hand roll set both times and wasn't disappointed but wasn't wowed by it. I think one weird thing is that the seating in the restaurant is quite narrow. We were a party of 5 the second time I came, and we were seated at the bar despite there being two open tables in the outdoor dining section that could seat 6 (in fact, the entire outdoor dining section was open except for one table of two). We asked twice if we could be seated in one of the two open 6 person tables, but the waitress both times said that we couldn't because it was their policy (and the second time was slightly annoyed when saying it). We were a bit confused by what that meant and figured it was just reserved for someone else, but no party ended up sitting at either table. It was a bit odd... probably wouldn't really come back again.

    Tuna crudo and crispy rice

I really wanted to like this place more than I did. It's a very hole in the wall, no frills sushi and hand roll restaurant. We had a reservation on a Friday night for 2 people. We arrived and had to wait in this awkward hallway area for a couple of minutes before just asking if we could sit at the bar. It took a very long time for someone to take our order. We ordered the crispy rice, tuna crudo, and a couple omakase sets. The crispy rice was my favorite and also the most affordable. The quality of all the food itself was very good but the slow service and uninviting atmosphere made this experience unpleasant.

    Kayla Y.

Came in without a reservation and we got a nice seat at the bar. We ordered the set and the 6 hand roll set. Everything to me was okay, after a while all the fish kind of tasted the same. I feel like they didn't need that much sauce/marinade on everything. My boyfriend really like the DIY hand roll set. Service was good and they constantly were making the hand rolls as I ate. Felt less traditional than a normal omakase bar. For the price, it wasn't too bad. $53 for the DIY set and $38 for the hand rolls.

How do you make a reservation here? Yelp shows they have reservations but searched the interweb with no avail and I have tried calling without answer. Is this place even open?

Do they offer outdoor seating and heaters during the winter coming right now?

Not sure. Sorr,y I am avoiding outdoor dining also. They did have stands set up.

Even before the food arrives, the restaurant leaves a strong impression with its stunning Japanese-inspired interior. The space is beautifully designed, blending warmth and elegance in a way that feels both inviting and refined. From the soft lighting to the natural wood accents and thoughtfully arranged decor, everything about the atmosphere feels intentional. It captures the intimate charm of a traditional izakaya while still feeling modern and stylish, making it a wonderful setting for anything from a casual dinner to a more special night out. The food more than lived up to the beauty of the space. One of the first highlights was the salmon onigiri, a dish that proved how satisfying simplicity can be when it is done well. The rice was soft, fresh, and perfectly formed, holding together without feeling too compact, while the salmon added a savory richness that made each bite feel comforting and flavorful. It was balanced, delicate, and deeply satisfying in a way that made it memorable despite its simplicity. The seared salmon salad was another standout. The salmon itself was beautifully prepared, with a lightly seared exterior that gave it a subtle crispness, while the inside remained tender, buttery, and smooth. That contrast in texture made the dish especially enjoyable. Paired with the freshness of the salad, it felt light and refreshing, yet still substantial enough to feel like more than just a side dish. It was a dish that managed to feel both clean and indulgent at the same time. The grilled squid was particularly impressive and easily one of the most memorable items of the meal. Squid can often be difficult to get right, as it can become rubbery or overly chewy if even slightly overcooked, but that was absolutely not the case here. The texture was spectacular--tender, delicate, and pleasantly springy without any toughness. Each bite had a light smokiness from the grill that added depth, while the squid itself retained its natural sweetness. It was expertly prepared and showcased a level of precision that really stood out. For the main courses, both the Tonkatsu Ramen and the Black Pepper Ramen delivered distinct experiences, each with its own appeal. The Tonkatsu Ramen was deeply comforting and satisfying, with a broth that had a rich, velvety texture and a full-bodied depth that coated the palate beautifully. It felt smooth, hearty, and luxurious without being too heavy. The noodles had an ideal texture as well--firm enough to provide a satisfying bite, yet soft enough to soak up the broth and integrate perfectly into the dish. Altogether, it was a bowl that felt warming, balanced, and incredibly comforting. The Black Pepper Ramen, on the other hand, brought a bolder and more assertive flavor profile. The broth had a smooth, glossy texture, and the noodles again had a pleasing chew that gave the dish structure and substance. The black pepper added an unmistakable warmth and aromatic intensity that made the ramen stand out immediately. It was flavorful and memorable, though the pepper was slightly overwhelming at times. A bit less black pepper would have allowed the other flavors in the broth to come through more clearly and created a more balanced bowl. Even so, the ramen was still enjoyable, especially for those who appreciate strong, pepper-forward flavors. Overall, Izakaya Fuku is a restaurant that succeeds on every level. The stunning Japanese interior creates an atmosphere that feels both immersive and elegant, while the food reflects a real attention to detail in both flavor and texture. From the comforting salmon onigiri, to the fresh and beautifully prepared seared salmon salad, to the expertly grilled squid with its exceptional texture, and finally the rich and satisfying ramen dishes, every part of the meal felt carefully executed. It is a place that offers not just excellent food, but a complete dining experience, and it is well worth visiting for anyone looking for standout Japanese cuisine in New York.

It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.

Their location is a little hidden, it's on the second floor above Soba Noodle Azuma on 55th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues, closer to 8th. You have to go up a stairwell on the side. Getting to the food, their focus is on meat, seafood and vegetable skewers though they also have a variety of appetizers, rice bowls and noodles, and dessert. The meats and veggies are grilled over charcoal while basted with "tare", a house-made sauce that adds a level of umami to the caramelized grill flavors. Recently I got a handful of skewers for takeout, including: - Ebi (shrimp) $8 x 2: the shrimp were cooked just right, tender and juicy, yum! - Hotate Eringi (scallop and oyster mushrooms) $8 x 2: the textures of the oyster mushrooms and scallop pieces complemented each other, and were kinda similar. Another tasty offering. - Negi pon (pork belly with scallions) $7: I'm not a huge fan of pork belly in general, though they grilled it well here and chopped scallions added a little spicy tickle. While not the cheapest for skewers that you can find, (and inflation hasn't helped,) their flavors are authentic and their quality and consistency is key here. I'm glad it's still here since there seems to be fewer and fewer good yakitori spots in Manhattan these days. They used to have another location in the city though I believe this closed pre-pandemic, however from their website they now have another location in Boston. This was also the sister restaurant to Ramen Totto which had four locations at one point though all have shuttered as well. Hope this location stays around for a long time!
