This use to be my favorite place to go to cause the doughnuts were soft and melt in my mouth type. I went recently and they are NOT THE SAME AS THEY USE TO BE I don't know if the owner changed or it's because of the staff but they taste like Scotty's doughnuts now unfortunately. Careful when exiting behind the building to go onto Park Street, it's a bigger dip than I expected. DRIVE THRU: If you are on Houston, the drive thru window on the right side (might be obscure due to lack of sign). DONUTS: They offer a ton of variety. I have tried a-lot of the donuts shops in Visalia, since I moved here 8 years ago. Yes their choices is limited when you wake up late and yes they put donuts in separate bags, ask for a box for heaven sake's. This is not a coffee shop, so don't expect Starbucks and if you feeling get hurt because they don't make small talk go to Dutch... This is a Veteran owned donut shop, the baker retired, he had to learn how to bake in a couple weeks and he is there everyday working hard. I go more than once every week to support this military family. Great attitude when I see him in the mornings and his wife always smiling. It takes about a full second to bite into one of these pillowy glazed, delights--no exaggeration here! While many of the donuts sell for $0.90 each, $8.00 will get you a mixed dozen. Don't be reluctant due to it's rundown appearance and shady area, these fresh donuts are worth a try. It seems the good people of Visalia are well-aware of this spot too because these donuts sell out fast. My only qualm is that the glaze and sugared layers could look more appealing. Despite this, it does not disrupt the taste and surely, a place I'll visit often when i'm in town. As a big lover of Ham & Cheese Croissants, I fully endorse them here as they're doughy, spicy, and can be had for only $2.50! I assume Doughboys tends to the demographic too since each of these croissants are packed with jalapeños. I just wish the meat, cheese, dough, and jalapeño ratios were better since I kept wishing I had more meat at each bite. ---- Conclusion: Not a donut spot that can compare to the imagination and skill of the donuts shops in LA/OC, but comes impressively close. I just moved to the area and was craving a donut. I looked to Yelp for recommendations. It was a little busy when I went at 9:30am but I decided it was worth the wait to try. The line went quick and the lady was very friendly. I was hoping to try a chocolate twist but they were sold out. I ordered donut holes and a chocolate bar, which totaled to $2.70. The owners attitude seems to be great somedays and terrible others.
